TV/Movies / On Screen Couple Banky W And Adesua Etomi Engaged In Real Life by Shalombrain: 12:07pm On May 03, 2017
R&B star Banky W reveals he is engaged to Nollywood actress Adesua Etomi.
Banky W announced his engagement to Adesua Etomi today, Wednesday, April 5, 2017, on his Instagram. In two lengthy Instagram posts he revealed when they started dating and when he proposed to her.

You can read his revealing post below;
"Dear Susu

We crossed paths 2 or 3 times since 2012, but I wasn't paying enough attention. Destiny was staring me right in the face and I was too caught up in my own hustle and paper chase, to know it. In June 2015 however, God brought you my way again, and this time, I really SAW you. I was smitten by your grace, aura, and beauty. So smitten infact, that even though I didn't get to say a word to you that day (because you were seated far across the room), I immediately called my best friend @captdemuren and told him I'd found my next girlfriend. LOL. He laughed.

I asked one or two people about you.. your manager Isioma, who I'd worked with previously, and then I did some research myself. Googled you, stalked your instagram.. the whole 9 yards, and the more I found out, the more you seemed like a breath of fresh air.

Banky W proposes to Adesua Etomi

Now, I personally don't like being "hooked up", so I decided to approach you myself by sliding into your DM a few days later. Introduced myself, made some silly attempts to make you laugh, told you I planned to become your biggest fan, and asked if we could be friends. Thank God you laughed at my silly jokes, and thank God you graciously agreed to become my friend. At the time, I was COMPLETELY lying about only wanting to be friends, by the way.. but I figured it was a safe place to start.

Since that DM, I've spoken to you pretty much every single day for almost 2 years. Sometimes, in the morning, at night and in between. We clicked instantly, and you quickly became one of my favourite people on earth, and one of my closest friends. It got to the point where my day wouldn't quite feel right without speaking to you. I needed your friendship. I needed, and still need, the bond we share. It completes me.

I knew pretty early in the process that I wanted to spend forever with you. Prayed about it fervently. But it took you FOREVER (okay fine.. maybe a year and a half or so) to see things my way. But I kinda knew all along.. I was just waiting for you to catch up.

Banky W and Adesua Etomi in Made for you
In that time, I got engaged to you in my "Made For You" music video... and then by coincidence, we both got cast to get married in "The Wedding Party" movie.. but all the while we were the very best of friends. I guess, in our case, real life will now imitate art.
I'm not sure what the future will bring, but I'm completely sure that I am ready to face it with you by my side. I pray that God continues to build me into the kind of man that you deserve. I love you Susu.. I feel safe and at peace with you. You mean the world to me. Thank you for agreeing to be my lover and best friend. Thank you for agreeing to be my wife.

PS: The timing of this may make some people think this is promo for another video, or a movie. It isn't.

Kemi Adebita is not returning to direct “The Wedding Party” sequel
By Adebola Shalom - May 2, 2017

After the success of Kemi Adebita’s directed Rom Com last year “The Wedding Party” reports surfaced online last month that Ebonylife films, Inkblot production, Film one distribution and Koga Studios will be treating us to a sequel of the hour plus rib cracking movie.

After a movie set photo of the sequel which started shooting last month surfaced online, it had now been confirmed that the ace director, Kemi Adebita would not be returning to direct the sequel.

Niyi Akinmolayan, who is popular for “Out of Luck,” “The Arbitration,” “Room 315,” and “Falling” will be directing the sequel.

The synopsis for “The Wedding Party 2” reads:

In “The Wedding Party” sequel Nonso (Enyinna Nwigwe), has continued his romance with Deirdre (Daniella Down), the bridesmaid from London. Somehow, Nonso manages to propose by accident, while on a dinner date, and sets off a chain of events too powerful to stop.

Deirdre’s upper-crust British family are against the match, as are some members of the Nigerian clan, but Deirdre’s determination can’t be contained.

After a near-disastrous introduction ceremony in Lagos and Nigerian opposition to a London wedding, both families reluctantly agree to a wedding in Dubai, setting us off on another colourful, chaotic and memorable journey to everlasting love.

The release date of “The Wedding Party 2” is yet to be announced.

TV/Movies / How Nollywood Keeps Killing Yollywood by Shalombrain: 5:54pm On Apr 29, 2017
I cannot over stress the fact that Nollywood is one of the most recognized movie industry in the world, at least if not respected people know who we are, that's why we are second on the largest movie industry list in the world.

But we aren't just large for nothing. We are large because we have divided and segmented ourselves into three "sub-main" movie industries which are all capable of standing independent as sole movie industries but continue deceiving ourselves that it's all under one body, whereas the only thing that this three movie industries have in common is the fact that they all originated from one country.

The Nigeria movie industry is divided into three; we have Kannywood, the Hausa movie industry, we have Yollywood, the Yoruba movie industry and then we have Nollywood, the English speaking, west world integrating and self acclaimed first class movie industry in the country. A few months ago, there was filtering rumors that our Igbo brothers were making moves to establish their own movie industry. This is the way in which we have over the years separated ourselves and isolating all our movie industries priding ourselves on Nollywood and decieving the outside world that we all are indeed one body. But to be frank with ourselves, we have to ask the question, if this segregation is doing much good or harm, to first; our movie industry as a whole, secondly; our international image, and thirdly out culture and heritage?

Yollywood actors in set
The answer to the questions above all scream no. First of all, the segregation and isolation of movie industries results in lack of valuable cooperation between our deep diversity of talent from different tribes in the country.

Also Read: Nollywood and other woods
Recently a Kannywood actress got banned from Kannywood due to inappropriate portrayal of herself in a music video. Openingly, the Nollywood guys welcomed her without questions into their fold and she started receiving movie roles, almost immediately people started singing her praise pointing out how she was a gain to the Nollywood fold and a loss for the Kannywood guys.

Just imagine if there were cordial relationships between the two isolated movie industries, the kind of magic we will be optioned to have being played out on our cinema screen but no, one feels superior to the other, and the others are posing strict with rules and regulations.Another example is the Hausa producer who thought The Wedding Party was a jab and insult to the Hausa industry for leaving out any major Hausa involved role and even went on to say he'd produce his own Hausa themed Wedding Party to rival Kemi Adebita's directed one. Just imagine such unnecessary rift.

Last night at the fifth Nigerian Entertainment Conference, there was a heated exchange of words between "Yollywood" actress Toyin Aimasku and "Nollywood" actress Adesua Etomi over the importance and necessity of joining the Actors Guild of Nigeria.

Just imagine the kind of bad image we will be portrayed in internationally if the news got out. The Actors Guild of Nigeria is like Hollywood's Association of creative Arts and Motion Pictures who organize the Oscars. Now imagine one well rooted and respected actress saying that been a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria is very important while another actress who happens to be the face of the countries highest grossing movie claims the opposite, that the association lacks a good structure.

Toyin Aimakhu in a movie scene
How do we expect the actors guild of Nigeria to be regarded internationally, when back home, it's successfully actors and actress are yet to see its importance and a future in it?

This segregation is mainly affecting only one part of the movie industry while the other is thriving on it. Thereby affecting our cultural heritage and values. On a daily basis we have many Yoruba actors and actress crossing over from Yollywood to Nollywood. Both newbies and already established ones. A recent example is that of Toyin Aimakhu who has appeared in more English themed movies than Yoruba in the last eighteen months and probably all of her acting career.

We really can't blame them, that's where the market is, where the money is and where the big boys play. Just imagine Odunlade Adekola who made a name as a Yoruba actor and whose indigenous facial expression has become a source of many memes circulating the Nigeria media today also jumping ship to Nollywood.

Odunlade Adekola acting
Not for once have I seen an indigenous speaking movie Kannywood or Yollywood screen at the cinemas before. Reasons I don't know. A few months ago a producer who happened to be a friend of my tried getting his partly Yoruba, partly English speaking movie to show at the cinemas and the movie got turned down for no specific reasons.

Also Read: How Idada’s court case went from 100 to 0

That one is not called corruption but point blank racism admist blacks. You cant tell me that's its all because of the bad quality of Yoruba movies because there are many movies out there in the cinema today which are not even worth a spot on my DVD rack talk less of a cinema spot. And I can conveniently name drop quality Yoruba movie that will go head to head against any other English film.

Maybe if we are more accepting and open to indigenous speaking films ace director and producer Kunle Afolayan might be akin to producing a Yoruba film.

Even the award systems are not helping out. If I remember correctly only one category was created to acknowledge the entire Yoruba movie industry at the latest AMVCAs.

United we stand, divide we fall a saying goes. This is a call for help to all the Nollywood influencers out there to help rebrand our image, save our culture and heritage and unite the Nigerian movie industry.

thanks to some loose lips during the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 press tour, that title may have just been revealed and it’s going to raise the eyebrow of many comic book fans…while meaning pretty much nothing to most civilians.

Yesterday, Zoë Saldana mentioned that she’d be doing filming for Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet later this year, leading many fans to speculate that Infinity Gauntlet might be the title of the fourth Avengers film. James Gunn debunked the report today in. an interview with Yahoo:

“It’s not the title. My guess is that Zoë just misspoke. I’ll talk to Zoë today, but I would imagine that is just Zoë misspeaking and saying Infinity Gauntlet instead of Infinity War.”

Our original story follows.

A few years ago I was telling my brother about how Nollywood was ranked as the second largest market in the movie industry all over the world and like any average Nigerian will, he argued vehemently against it. He just couldn’t accept the fact that Nigeria could be second at anything worldwide not to talk of the movie industry.

He mentioned Hollywood, Bollywood and the likes and asked where they ranked on the list, I told him they were all at the top three alongside Nollywood. It took me explaining to him that we were ranked second not because of the quality of our movies nor the value of our industry but for the revenue generated from the hundreds of movies being produced every year.

TV/Movies / Arnold Schwarzenegger Won’t Do ‘expendables 4’ Without Sylvester Stallone by Shalombrain: 2:02pm On Apr 08, 2017
The Expendables franchise is in even more trouble following Sylvester Stallone‘s disappointing departure from the action film series last week.
Much of the passion for this throwback action franchise comes from star and producer Sylvester Stallone, who rounded up a combination of his old action movie friends and some of the newer meatheads on the block for an assembly of mercenaries who shoot big guns, create big explosions and always take down the bad guy. Now that he’s gone, some of the franchise’s key players don’t have much of interest in returning, like
Arnold Schwarzenegger .
News of Arnold Schwarzenegger leaving The Expendables franchise comes from Entertainment Weekly , which spoke with the actor as he promotes his upcoming movie Aftermath. Schwarzenegger didn’t mix any bones about not returning for The Expendables 4 now that Stallone is out of the picture:
“There is no Expendables without Sly. I would never do the movie without him, no.”

That’s a decision the actor is willing to make without even knowing much of anything about the movie. The actor confirms, “I have not seen the script; I don’t even know if there is..........

TV/Movies / Spiderman Is The Worst Superhero by Shalombrain: 10:07am On Apr 08, 2017
Before you critize me; Spiderman is the worst Superhero are not words that proceeded out of my mouth, they’re words of Mr Ayo Arikawe. Days ago I was having a little chit chat about Marvel and DC comics and somewhere within the conversation Mr Ayo said that.

Immediately I disagree with him, sighting Deadpool as a suitable replacement for Spiderman in that statement but as I pondered on what he said I started to see things from a different angle.

Now depending on when and how you got to watch the Spiderman movies will lead to you making conclusions as to if Spiderman is really the worst Superhero movie or not.

Spiderman’s storyline is pretty simple, a high school guy who got bitten by a Spider during a tour and since then have had Spider webs protruding from his wrist. Not forgetting the smoking hot girl he has a crush on nor the fact that he is an orphan who lives with his Aunt.

Also Read: Daniel Craig to reprise his role in James Bond

Since Spiderman realized his powers and was able to control it he has been using it to prevent crimes and save his city from bad guys; the villains in this case. So now depending on when and how you were presented with this plot you can never be too wrong or right about where Spiderman stands in the worst Superhero clan.

As a kid, you’re likely to be more inclined favorably towards Peter Parker, he was an orphan, most kids have the natural tendency to have pity and compassion on orphans besides that, Spiderman was always the one fighting the bad guys and saving the city bringing the monsters of the night down.

A story kids of the early 90s can relate to, majority who learnt how to pray to God to keeps them from the monsters of the night before they fell sleep.

If you watched Spiderman as a teenager you’d want to side with it. Marvel never failed to tell the love story side of Peter Parker, his here and there relationships with his school mate.

Every high school teenager has at one time or the other being in a relationship or had a crush on someone so it’s easier to relate and stand with a superhero who is just as vulnerable to love as they were.

But if on the other end you watched Spiderman as a grown up adult who have had to face some challenges of life and has shred the the childhood ideology of fantasies, Spiderman will probably be the worst Superhero to you......................

TV/Movies / Is Okafor’s Law Really Doing Well At The Cinemas? by Shalombrain: 9:56am On Apr 08, 2017
Earlier today I was chatting with a friend and he told me that he does not think Omoni Oboli’s Okafor’s Law is doing very well at the cinemas. A statement I totally disagreed with.

When I asked him why he made such statements, he said Nigerians like show off, that if Okafor’s Law have been raking it in big at the big screen, we’d have gotten an Instagram picture from Oboli touting the success of the release just like the producer of Hire a Man and The Wedding Party did.

First of all, an Instagram picture does not determine how successful a movie is or not. Yes we are all concerned about how well a movie does in the cinemas few days after its release. That’s why we get Hollywood box office figures on the day of a movie premier, three days after and the weekend after.

Also Read: Jeremy Renner to miss the next Mission Impossible

But maybe that just isn’t Omoni’s ways. There’s no reason why Okafor’s Law will not rake in big figures at the box office. Forget Chidiguma’s review, forget the court case, there has been no Nigeria movie (Nollywood) I mean with so much buzz around itself as it is with Okafor’s Law since late last year with The Wedding Party.

Don’t mention Hire a Man, as good as the movie is, I like to believe that it just got lucky, Ojúkòkòrò, was just another average movie that made thearitical release.

Okafor’s Law debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in the summer of last year. It started gaining audience late February into early March based on its...................

TV/Movies / Daniel Craig To Reprise His Role In James Bond by Shalombrain: 12:24pm On Apr 07, 2017
Daniel Craig has a love-hate relationship with James Bond . Recently the actor reiterated how much he loves playing 007 , despite
previous famous remarks indicating that he’d rather slash his wrists than consider starring in another James Bond movie while on the press tour for Spectre .

Since then, there have been (false) rumors of Craig turning down anywhere from $100 million to $150 million to reprise his role.

Despite rumblings of other contenders like Tom Hiddleston being mentioned, producers still have Daniel Craig as their top choice to return to Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Now it sounds like they may have finally convinced him to return, at least if a new rumor is to be believed.

The latest update regarding Daniel Craig returning as James Bond comes from the gossipy Page Six, so take it with a grain of salt. They cite multiple sources telling them that producer Barbara Broccoli, who has been working with Craig on an off-Broadway production of Othello with Selma star David Oyelowo, has finally gotten Daniel Craig to reprise his role as 007.

TV/Movies / Sylvester Stallone Exits Expendables by Shalombrain: 9:29am On Apr 07, 2017
An Expendables 4 was scheduled to close out the series next year, but it might have to move forward without its star, Sylvester Stallone. The actor, who directed the first film in the series, has left the franchise over creative differences. Stallone may have been offered more than $20 million to play Barney Ross again – his upfront biggest paycheck to date – but disagreements with Nu Image/Millennium chief Avi Lerner led to his departure.

Below, learn more about why Stallone is finished with the series.

According to Deadline, Stallone and Lerner didn’t even come to terms on what VFX house to use for Expendables 4. They also couldn’t agree on a script or director either. Stallone, coming off a Golden Globe win, an Oscar nom, and his powerful performance in Creed, wasn’t interested in making another disappointing sequel.

Terry Crews said it after Creed, Stallone has a lot of options, including another directorial effort, Tough as They Come. He doesn’t have to make a movie he doesn’ want to. Crews, by the way, said he wouldn’t return to the franchise without Stallone, so this series may have just lost two of its most charismatic actors.

This isn’t the first time Lerner and Stallone disagreed about the Expendables franchise, but it might be the........

TV/Movies / Basira In London Is A Slap To Nigerians by Shalombrain: 5:41am On Mar 09, 2017
This morning I woke up to the news that "Basira in London" will be premiering this March in Nigeria. At first I was put off by the title of the film.

"Basira in London", at a first glance it shows the the level of mediocrity embedded in the film. Nollywood have come along way to have such title for a movie you intend to become a hit.

As lame as "A trip to Jamaica" and "30 days in Atlanta" might sound, it does not carry the aura of (a let us just do one film like that) air. When you name a film by one of it's characters name, it says alot about how far you will go to sell the film except it's a John Wick or Jason Bourne pedestal kind of film.

The second thing the title gives away is the slapstick format the movie will take. You might argue that "A trip to Jamaica" and "30 days in Atlanta" are both slapstick movies, but there is slapstick and then there is slapstick. This title already buried it's movie in the first category of slapstick.

The next thing that put me off was the movie poster..............

TV/Movies / Mr And Mrs Gets Sequel by Shalombrain: 2:36am On Mar 09, 2017
In 2012 we were treated to a spectacle in Nollywood motion pictures, in 2012 we were treated to Mr and Mrs which followed the ups and downs a couple had to endure.

Good news is that the producers of Mr and Mrs has found us worthy of a sequel. Titled Mr and Mrs. Revolution. The movie will be directed by Teco Benson and feature AMVCA 2017 best actress Rita Dominic, Chidi Mokeme, Tana Adelana, Akin Lewis and many other Nollywood stars.

Mr. & Mrs. Revolution centers around a couple, Sharon (Rita Dominic) and Kobi (Chidi Mokeme) who attempts to tell the truth about some of the conflicts, confinement, independence, and struggles in marriages. The pursuit to keep their marriages intact and save their private lives leads to various dramatic and intense scenes that follow the story.

According to the writer, Chinwe Egwuagu, Mr. & Mrs. is a totally different package from the first one, the story line is different yet not losing line with the realities faced in marriages. The audience are [sic] going to love this one because it is something everyone can relate to.”

The first instalment of Mr. & Mrs. bagged several awards and nominations such as Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA) for Best Screenplay, Nollywood Movie Awards for Best Costume Design, Nollywood Movie Awards for Best Editing, Nollywood Movie Awards for Best Lead Actress (Nse Ikpe Etim), and many others.

Personally I don’t really find it cool that the AMVCAs is the most coveted and sort out for award in the movie industry in Nigeria and Africa. It is our own little Oscar fiesta.

Not that I have anything against MultiChoice, it’s no doubt that they are doing awesome in making the awards what it is today but call it ego or pride I wouldn’t want my work to be judged and assessed by the masses who have little or no idea of what I do.

They are only filed with the little they have to feast on on the cinematic screens, they don’t know what goes on behind the scene. Saturday, hours before the AMVCAs my friends and I were arguing on which film will win the award for the best overall movie and they all insisted that Kemi Adebita’s The Wedding Party was going to win.

Following the event on Sunday, unsuspecting views had trooped into the Dalton Rion Cinemas to watch the Academy Award winners of the Best Picture category, unknown to them, they had more instocked for them than they had bargained for.

The Rio cinema in Dalston, London, played a short snippet of La La Land before.................

TV/Movies / What Will Make The AMVCA Look Like Fools by Shalombrain: 8:26pm On Mar 04, 2017
Last Sunday on the 26th of February the Academy for motion pictures and art held the 89th Academy Awards dubbed the Oscars. Tomorrow the 4th of March MultiChoice, owners of DSTV will hold there Oscar counterpart the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, the 5th edition.

The buzz around this year’s AMVCA has being released lowest since the inaugural show in 2012. The have been art of nonchalant attitude displayed by many a-listers hinting the possibility of snubbing the show just like our artist did to the Headies.

There was even a rumor at a time that there is the possibility that the invited guests will not be...............

TV/Movies / #fantasyfriday 01 by Shalombrain: 3:56pm On Mar 03, 2017
I’ve watched a lot of Angelina Jolie’s movies and so have I watched a lot of Brad Pitt’s but one particular movie that stands out in both of there careers is the piece they did together on Mr and Mrs.

The movie actually served as the first movie they two superstars will feature in together, also as the very first meeting between the two and also the platform that kick started the duo relationship that came to an abstract end last summer.

It was the same feeling I had when watching this movie I had when I saw the few seconds flick last year between Genevieve Nnaji and Hakeem.

I had this goose bump feelings, I thought at last we’d be getting a super spy Nollywood film only to find out that the flick was just an Advert for Etisalat. I never knew Genevieve was at the time an Etisalat ambassador.

So my fantasy for this #fantasyfriday is to have a top notch Nollywood spy movie.

TV/Movies / Why "The In-laws" Will Not Be A Hit by Shalombrain: 11:23pm On Mar 02, 2017
"The in-laws", is a movie that centers around a young man and lady (Chris Attoh and Toyin Abraham) who are in their thirties and are in love.

Unfortunately and unbeknownst to these couple, their parents have an ongoing feud that dates back to forever.

Abu Balogun (Dele Odule) is a retired police sergeant that had his first love snatched by Donald and his promotion frustrated by the same person.

On the other hand is Donald Okezie (Charles Inojie), who is a lawyer that had his biggest lawsuit scuttled by the unrepentant lying attitude of Abu Balogun.

Like I said in my previous post, "The in-laws" have everything in there arsenal to be a "The wedding party" kind of mega hit but that doesn't also mean they don't have any odds stacked against them..................

TV/Movies / What If The Oscars Charade Was Intentional? by Shalombrain: 11:02pm On Mar 02, 2017
On the 26th of February last Sunday the motion pictures association of America hosted us to the 80th Academy Awards. It will be an understatement to say
that the show was short of drama.

Closing the show was the award for the best picture, probably the most coveted award of the evening Jimmy kimmel came out and announced that La La La land
was in the winner for the best picture category.

The entire cast and crew came up on stage and were already giving their acceptance speech only for Jimmy kimmel to come back on stage and say that he made a
mistake.

Mistake? Mistake? Mistake? Mistake at the Oscars, at the 89th Academy Awards, on the grandest stage of all movie awards with not less than 35 million and
almost 40 million viewers watching all over the United States and the world at large.

I believe the beauty of a program or show is when............
