BEN EKE AND STUDENTS UNIONISM... ~ Bursary, a yardstick to cushion the effect of school hardship. Preamble: The university campus is a universal environment where people of all works of life come together in pursuit of their various academic endeavours. This goes with different characteristics of people in relation to their various backgrounds. The academic pursuit does not go down well without hitches and of course happy and sad moments as the case may be. Therefore students usually appreciate the need for urgent and "awoof" cash as it serves as a "messiah" to reduce the hardships on a typical Nigerian campus especially those in the dormitory and indigent students, remember hungry is a respecter of no man! Hence the introduction of bursary payments and grants by various government agencies, NGOs and personalities became a saving grace to assist the students no matter how little, it motivates and encourages. We all can agree that "money" puts smiles on our faces especially when it comes as a privilege. Little wonder why the various students' organizations and leaderships always places amongst their demands the need for payment of bursary to deserving students. Hence it is worthy of note that we appreciate and encourage governments, NGOs and individuals who has painstakingly decided to put smiles on the faces of students through bursary payments and other students empowerment programmes as the case may be. BEN EKE AND STUDENTS UNIONISM IN AHOADA EAST LGA. As a stakeholder in the students sector, a comrade who has held several positions in and around the students environment though retired but not tired, it will be ill of me if I do not appreciate the contributions so far made by the Executive Chairman of Ahoada East Local Government Area, Rivers State Hon. Barr. Ben Eke in the educational sector of Ahoada East Local Government Area. Before I proceed, I wish to beg that we throw away all forms of anger, grudges, party sentiments and reason together as like minds, with this we'll surely make head way. Dear comrades, I believe we all know that the performance of a leader is based on a superior authority at the center "Leadership is not easy. Some leaders are only there to implement the position of their overbearing subordinates" - Distinguished Senator Osinakachukwu Ideozu . While I would not digress into the achievements and awards of Hon. Barr. Ben Eke in the educational sector since his inception as the council boss, the purpose of this write up is to appreciate him on the recent payment of bursary to deserving students of tertiary institutions including post graduates and reiterate on the need to sustain the wave hence ask for more. This has become the Ben Eke's culture of distribution of scarce resources to the area of governance that needs such attention though criticized for not putting much infrastructures on ground but his human capacity development is top notch as a lot of people including non indigenes and members of the opposition parties are on the payroll of the council. Ben believes, it is Ahoada East money therefore whether you are a non indigene or opposition party but resident in Ahoada East, such person is entitled to the largess, little wonder why he is nicknamed "Ben Pay" Last academic session, students smiled home with alerts from the council as bursary payments, such tempo has been maintained as he has done same this academic session and has promised to do it until he leaves office. While I will always advocate for more attention on the students as youths, I will not fail to commend this kind gesture because as a one-time students leader who has experienced hardship in the four walls of the academia and still experiencing, I make bold to appreciate this move and hope it is sustained. Dear comrades, no one is ever perfect, there is always room for constructive criticism, this makes a government better by making necessary adjustments. With our numerous wealth of experiences as stakeholders in this struggle, the students of Ahoada East will always be grateful for people like you and I. Thank you Hon. Barr. Ben Eke for listening to the plight of the students in this regard and we hope you'll continue to do more. Aluta Continua! Victoria Ascerta! Thank You! The Man, Uzodhu Michael And his uncommon Philanthropy 17th August, 2019 was the D- Day! I have been contacted by my very good friend Mr. Esedi Joe David to add flavour in the Full Scholarship Award Programme by one Engr. Uzhodu Michael. With my team ALERT MEDIA and #Communications CEO Madu Dab Madueke vested with the responsibility of the media coverage of the event, we arrived the event venue at Idoke community, Upata Kingdom in Ahoada East Local Government Area, Rivers State for the epoch making event. I watched with keen interest as men and women of high repute graced the occasion, I saw from technocrats to political class, captains of industries, the clergy, traditional institutions, youth organizations, cultural organizations to mention but a few. The programme began in earnest and I watched as various items were rolled out, fast forward to when the sponsor and initiator was called to make a speech, I saw the "Man"! Is this Uzhodu Michael? I asked in awe! Oh! Not even a politician but a very simple young man working hard to make ends meet yet he uses his personal fund and scarce resources to sponsor school children in a full funded secondary school education ( Boarding School). This time I hoped and prayed that we have more of his kind with good gestures for his motherlands, this act he said was to encourage others to do as he acknowledges that all fingers were not equal. I wished and prayed that we have many more philanthropic personalities to add to what he is already doing. On 3rd January, 2021, Engr. Uzhodhu Michael called me to join him at De Tropicana Hotels and Gardens Ltd, Ahoada with my newly wedded wife Mrs. Eric Agwenitani Deborah Abbot. I questioned the reason for the invite and he said to me "I am hosting my children, their parents and guardians, the school principal, few teachers and well wishers of the winners of the Scholarship Programme in my Foundation" Wow! I went to honour my friend and what I saw was massive, I later learnt this has been a yearly celebration carried out by this young man, an event he uses to interact with the children to know their welfare and needs. Of course they had lots of refreshments and take home gift items. This is just one man out there in our own The Ekpeye Ethnic Nationality who is doing his bits, can I plead that we need more of this kind gesture as education is key? This is to encourage you Engr. Uzodhu Michael to continue doing good as the world is watching, you too can do your bit in your different endeavour. Tell us we'll tell the world. Thank you and God bless you!

He urged Nwuche to continue to provide the enabling environment for cooperation between Ekpeye youths and other youth groups in the country. Hon Nwuche in his remarks thanked the youths for the visit and for their role in maintaining peace and orderliness in Ekpeye Kingdom. He urged them to continue to ensure peaceful coexistence amongst the people and to protect government, private and oil and gas facilities in their areas and to shun all acts of cultism and criminality that will result in insecurity in the area. He urged them to be their brothers keepers and not to pull down each other as has always been the case in Niger Delta and to work with other youth groups like the Ijaw, Arewa, Ohanaeze Idigbo, Afenifere Youth councils to build a better, more equal and just Nigeria. A Nigeria where all will be treated fairly and equally irrespective of tribe, tongue or religion. He urged them to support and work closely with the Rivers state government under the leadership of Governor Nyesom Wike who has been doing very well in rebuilding urban infrastructure and bringing development to all the local government areas of the state, emphasizing that politics should be about the people and any government that is doing well needs to be commended and supported by the people. He especially appreciated Gov Wike for standing by Rivers people irrespective of party, tongue and tribe. He remarked that true leaders are judged by their impact on the welfare of the masses, and not by how many people they were able to pull down, but rather how many they pulled up.He described that kind of politics as toxic and a disenabler of individual and societal growth and partly responsible for the under development of the Niger Delta region. He urged Niger Delta appointees, especially the ministers and heads of parastatals to use their offices for the good of the people, and to use it to disempower Niger Deltans and other Nigerians,or fight perceived enemies. As an apostle of transparency and allowing the people to choose their leaders devoid of manipulation, he commended the executive for emerging through a fair and transparent process.Remarking that our politicians should borrow a leaf from the youths.
