At no time has Kenya or even the poorest nations in East Africa EVER looked up to Nigeria.
Heck, the trade between Kenya and Nigeria is miniscule. We trade amongst ourselves and our Bantu nations ,not West Africans. We have strong links to South Africa, given that both nations have large Afrikaans populations(though ours has declined alot as most have moved to Australia) and we trade a lot .We trade a lot with East Africa, our biggest market,We trade within COMESA.We do not do much with West Africa.
At not time has Kenya,Uganda,Tanzania,Rwanda, Burundi,Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia or Seychelles ever looked up to Nigeria.
West Africa until the last 7 years was more or less a continent further from us than Europe or North America.
I only came to hear Nigerian songs with P Square .Ask any Kenyan which Nigerian musician they knew before that.Eeerm .NONE.
Ethiopians are not aware Nigerians exist,Nor do Eritreans.East African music barely reaches them let alone West African music or news.
Nigerians are seen as scammers, liars, fake currency makers and people who rent a two bedrooomed house and cram 10 people in it against council laws.Hardly people to be looked up to!!Ever!!
The influence we are talking about grin you know Psquare, i dont know any of your artist.

Egypt,Ethiopia, Kenya and South Africa are considered to be the nations the US prioritizes the most in Africa, mainly due to the presence of bases in or near all 4 nations, the fight against terror both in Somalia and the Middle East(For example, Mombasa was used as a fueling point for warships en route to Iraq in the Iraq war).
Compare this.
When Nigeria had the post election violence in 2010 that killed over 1000 people after Goodluck Jonathan was elected, Did the US even bother??
Yet when Kenya had its own which killed a similar number of people, The US was all over the country, sending representatives from the State Department and even Koffi Annan himself .

Even last week, some ranchers were attacked in Laikipia and Boris Johnson is now in the country, admiring our armed forces.
Doe Nigeria get the same level of attention??
When Obama came to Africa, which nations did he visit? Not Nigeria!!
Heck even China prioritizes Kenya,Ethiopia,South Africa and Tanzania , because the gateway to the Congo mineral riches passes through the ports of East Africa, West Africa is not seen as a priority. After all, if it is oil, Angola and South Sudan are their main African suppliers. Not Nigeria.
If that was so Donald Trump would have called kenya Not Nigeria. undecided

And all of them either
1.Deal with 1 product:Oil except for the Lagos Port
2.All Smaller than the port of Mombasa
3.Serve one country, Nigeria.
Mombasa is now the second largest port on the continent after Durban. This was after the 2nd Container terminal was opened in the Port .The port handles a wide variety of goods aaaand It serves Kenya,Uganda, Rwanda,Burundi, Eastern DRC and South Sudan.a Highly Profitable port as all those countries pay a fee to use the Port.
It is better to have Many Ports Scattered around the Country.

Comparing kenya to nigeria is 'Foolish'.

Kenya has only Nairobi the rest of the country is nothing to write home about.

Friend im sorry to say some small africans state would wear us out.
The quality of our soldiers is there.
I mean you got to praise the airforce personnel, Using Mediocre equipment purchased in limited number to fight.
But what if BH's got their hand on a MANPAD. Do the defence ministers ask themselves that question.

from this 3billion you have to pay army personell too....

and many nations build weapons themselfs...we buy everthing...
There have been many oppurtunities for us to grow our defence industry in the past(The jf17 program for example) the political will is just not there.

And don't tell me that we have a small defence budget, our defence budget is one of the highest in africa, yet we have low strike and attack capability.

Take Morocco,Angola for example, we have a higher defence budget, yet they have a stronger airforce.

There is definitely something wrong with our defence planners.

do you think we can afford much with only 3blillion dollars budget??...

our strength is in ground forces........

air power is very expensive.....

now that morroco is joining ecowas,we dont need to worry about air power that much...
And you think Alfa jet & j7/f7 aircraft for a country with over $3bn budget is okay? country with less have better Airframe.

You are wrong now that "Morroco is planning to join ecowas", we need to worry about our air power.

For a country at war the equipment it uses in the prosecution of it CT/COIN is Humiliating.

How can africa largest economy that is at war for the past 6 year be using a Trainer for it's lead in CAS aircraft, that is beyond stupid.

And we Nigerian are welcoming this, If the west are not sellng us a good and viable Attack plane then we look east.

How can we still be in the process of acquiring Super Tucano Aircraft 6 Years from the start of the CT/COIN in the North-east, this is humiliating

to us as citizen of this country, As one of the Country with the largest economy in the world And in this 21st century how can we be operating

As fighters/interceptor less than "15 Alpha jet(Bought more than 30 years ago)", "10 F7(A knock off of Mig-21)". AS surveillance "2

ATR-32,Diamond, half a dozen of drone,". AS attack helicopter less than 12 attack helicopters, this figure are humiliating for a country whose

forces are currently engaged in the North-East(In an area the size of belgium), South-East, and the central part of the country dealing with fulani herdsmen.
Though it is praiseworthy to note that the Military is doing quite well giving the limited resources, But the loss of Civilian lives is just too much to bear.

With over $3bn budgeted for military spending every year if this is what the armed forces can show for it, then i am sorry someethhing is definitely wrong somewhere.

TV/Movies › Wedding Party' Marks Nollywood Breakthrough. by Shaytun(op):
LAGOS -- Nollywood film "The Wedding Party" has shown Nigerian cinema at the top of its game, with its success at the box office taking it to new audiences across Africa and the world.

The country may well be in recession but Nollywood, which churns out some 2,000 films a year and is the world's second-biggest film industry outside India, has never been healthier.

"The Wedding Party" is a madcap, glamorous comedy telling the story of the marriage of Dunny and Dozie, despite the misgivings of their families' rivalries.

One family is Igbo and the other Yoruba — two of the main ethnic groups in Nigeria.

The film's director, Kemi Adetiba, admitted that she hadn't expected it to be so successful.

In the two months since its release, the film, which is still showing in cinemas, has already generated 400 million naira (US$1.3 million), shattering the west African nation's previous record.

Until then, the record was the 178.5 million naira made by "A Trip to Jamaica," which also came out last year, showing that homegrown films can be more popular than Hollywood blockbusters.

Coming Together

At a cinema in Lagos, the audience cried out in delight at the sight of hundreds of guests of the bride and groom trying to outdo one another in frenzied traditional dances.

Betty, a 27-year-old Lagos entrepreneur, had seen the film three times already but was still laughing throughout. She said the dance contest was her favorite scene.

"That's exactly the way we are in terms of weddings. Our weddings are very colorful, our weddings are a lot of laugh time, a lot of dancing, a lot of drama, that's who we are," she said, smiling.

Another filmgoer, Joy, said the film sends out a message by mocking the intolerance and mistrust that often characterize relationships between Nigeria's different ethnic groups.

"The movie is like two sides of Nigerians: the Igbos and Yorubas, the toughest part in Nigeria," she said.

"It is like harmonizing the two parts together and making us understanding why we need to be together, no matter the tribe."
