MY VISA WAS APPROVED THIS MORNING

VO: good morning, pass me your passport and i20

Me: I did

VO: so you are going to the US to study computer science.

Me: I am actually going to study management information systems with a major in computer systems analysis.

VO: what did you study in your undergraduate

Me: I studied Electrical and Electronic engineering with a major in telecommunications which has got to do with informations. MIS too has got to do with solving business problems with information technology.

VO: Why do you need a master's degree now, since you have been working with **** state government since you finished your NYSC

Me: I need a master's degree in MIS now for career advancement. Besides, more ministries are being created in my state and their is serious need for database administrators.

VO: I can see you have relatives in the US, what do they do?

Me: yes, I have 2 brothers in the united state, they are students of UIS, one just graduated and will be starting his PhD this same month, the other is still studying MPH.

VO: who will sponsoring you

Me: My elder brother, he is in charge of the family funds.

VO: I'll be approving your visa, he brought out the white paper and circled collection point, I didn't even wait to hear when to pick it up. I just carried my file and left.

No SOA asked, I didn't even take any test and I applied to just one school. It was just God!

To God be the glory, thank you nairalanders.

Congratulations bro I’m really happy for you. God bless ur new journey.

My Transcript

Visa approved at Lagos Embassy, 30th July 2019

School: Clarkson University

Funding: 66,000$ (Tuition and stipends)

Course : Msc Chemical Engineering

This was my 9th attempt, 7 in Lagos, 2 in Abuja

Here is my today's visa transcript:

V.O: (Looked at my i20) I see you have a teaching assistantship, what will you be teaching?

Me: I will be assisting prof. ... in grading students papers, invigilating test and exams, other teaching duties will be assigned upon resumption

V.O: what was your undergraduate Major?

Me: chemical engineering

V:O Where do you work and what's your duties?

I currently work as a process engineer at D***y Industries Limited and stated my duties

V.O: (Started typing for a long time and checking his system, he was shaking his head too and my mind was beating fast.) He asked, have you travelled outside the country before?

Me: Yes, I have been to Ghana

V.O: is it by flight or road and how many times

Me: I travelled by road and that was sept last year and came back same month

V.O: (Went to meet another V.O, he stayed there for like 4mins, I don't know what they were discussing). After he came back, he asked... What's your plans after graduation?

Me: Upon completion of my masters degree, I will be resuming a new position at my current place of work as a senior process engineer and I am going to be on a paid study leave (I brought out the letter, he saw it and said he doesn't need it, I pushed my letter back to my file).

V.O: (Typing for a very long time and checking stuffs on his system) you have been to Abuja embassy last time, what transpired there?

Me: During my last interview, the V.O wasn't convinced that I am a credible student and hence I was refused. I have come to demonstrate my credibility as a student, I wrote GRE and scored 324, had a good grade (1st class) and believe i definitely do very well during my masters studies at Clarkson University. (He nodded)

V.O: (Started typing again and checking stuffs on his system), You applied for safety science at Embryl Riddle Aeronautical University in 2017, why the switch to chemical engineering (For my mind, e don come again o)

Me: That's was when I finished my National Youth Service and was working with a firm so i needed to increase my safety knowledge but since I changed place of work and now dealing with chemicals, I needed to develop knowledge in the area of chemical catalysis and plasma processing which will be needed when I resume a new position at my place of work. (He nodded)

V.O: Do you have anybody in USA?

Me: No, I don't have anybody

V.O: (Typed for ages, for like 2mins and was checking his system, my mind was beating fast. He took my passport and those blue papers, I was like it's finished, another refusal. Immediately he brought out the white paper and circled a location, then said the golden words) YOUR VISA HAS BEEN APPROVED, then passed my i20 and sevis receipt

Me: collected my i20 and shouted Thank you sir!!! I ran out of the embassy and people were shouting what is it, I was running till i reached where I entered cab to my house cos it was like a dream or like i was watching a movie.

That's it... I saw God's favour today

Me: Texas A & M is a top tier research institution that is known for 3 cardinal things: 1. Quality Education 2. Quality research 3. Community engagement.
I communicated with the Program's director and in the end I was convinced that the school is best fit for me.
VO: How did you know about the school?
Me: Through the schools of public health application service website, USnews and Google. (VO nods)
VO: Who will be sponsoring your education.
Me: My Uncle will be sponsoring my education since....(VO interrupted me).
VO: Where does he work?
Me: He is a business man, he deals with textile production and also import vehicles from the US for sale in Nigeria. I have is bank statements (VO wasn't interested, he kept typing)
VO: (looks up interested). Are you the only doctor in your family?
Me: infact I'm the first (smiled)
VO: (smiled back) I will be approving your Visa. You can pick it up on Wednesday.
Oyinbo man handed me white paper and my passport... strange isn't it but I was too happy to notice. I got out of the interview hall with my passport and white paper.I just realized Jeez- I rushed back inside, alerted an official who gave him my passport.
So I'll just say that it was God. I implore everyone to keep pushing hard, believe in yourself and success is sure. If you believe in prayers like I do, please pray hard and also prepare well. All the best people.

ME: I wrote GRE and TOEFL

VO starts typing for a while, I was just praying that I should get white paper. Immediately he returned my I-20 I became excited, he said your passport will be ready for pick up at Isolo in the next few days and keep your I-20 form well.
I said thank you and left, I got outside and started reminiscing on how I couldn’t answer his questions to my satisfaction but my visa was still approved. All veneration to God.

Verdict:
- Read as many transcripts as possible, it was a transcript I read here that made me go through that helpful journal.
- Fill your DS 160 form properly and know the details offhand.
- Have a profound knowledge of your program and research interest.

Appreciation
Kudos to every single person that has contributed in one way or the other to this thread, I have been following this thread since page 14 everyday for more than 2 months. I learnt a lot from this platform. Thank you.

I wish everyone preparing for interview the best.
Congratulations. I tap into this. I will testify soon
