Escaped Chibok girl, Amina Ali Nkeki says she misses her Boko Haram fighter husband and is still thinking about him three months after escaping the militants’ camp. Amina Ali, who was held hostage by the terrorist group for more than two years, says she was married off a year into her ordeal and later had a baby girl, Safiya. The couple and their daughter were found on the outskirts of Nigeria’s Sambisa Forest in May. She says they fled the camp by themselves and were not rescued by the Nigerian military, contrary to reports. Her husband, identified as Mohammed Hayatu at the time of their escape, told a witness that he too had been kidnapped by Boko Haram. He was placed in military detention for interrogation by Nigeria’s joint intelligence center. Amina Ali says she has no idea where he is now and is keen to be reunited with him. “I’m not comfortable with the way I’m being kept from him,” the painfully shy 21-year-old told CNN, speaking to the media for the first time at an undisclosed location in Abuja Tuesday. Addressing the father of her child directly, she says: “I want you to know that I’m still thinking about you, and just because we are separated doesn’t mean I have forgotten about you.” Her statements came two days after the terrorist group released a grisly video showing the dead bodies of young women, taken in the aftermath of what Boko Haram says was a Nigerian airstrike. Amina Ali says a dozen captives died in a bombing more than a year ago, which suggests that the footage is not new, according to a spokesman for Nigeria’s National Security Advisor. The video also shows a Chibok girl reciting a scripted plea for the release of Boko Haram fighters in exchange for the kidnapped girls. Amina Ali was one of 276 schoolgirls abducted at gunpoint from their boarding school in Chibok in April 2014, by Boko Haram fighters. As many as 57 girls were able to escape almost immediately, but more than 200 remain missing. The kidnapping sparked global outrage and prompted global figures, including activist Malala Yousafzai and first lady Michelle Obama, to support the campaign to #BringBackOurGirls. Amina Ali refuses to talk about the attack, saying only she cannot remember what happened that fateful day. For a year after they were taken, the abducted girls were kept together, she says. Then some of the teenagers — including her — were “given” to the terrorists as wives. She says she was desperate to see her mother again and that the thought gave her the courage and strength to flee the camp. Asked how she felt about becoming a mother herself while in captivity, her face clouds over and, speaking through an interpreter, she insists: “I don’t want to answer.” Her mother has spent the past two months staying with her in the capital. But Amina Ali has still not been back to Chibok and says she wants to go home and return to school. The whereabouts of the rest of the girls remain a mystery, though they are believed to be somewhere in the Sambisa Forest, a Boko Haram stronghold in the country’s northeast. Successive Nigerian governments have been criticized for failing to recover the young hostages over the past two years. More than two years later, Amina Ali remains the only long-held hostage who has escaped. But she has a defiant message for her “sisters” still being held: Don’t lose hope. She managed to get away, she says, and one day they will be able to return to their families too. “Be patient and prayerful,” she said. “The way God rescued me from Sambisa Forest, he will rescue you too.”

While some people eat it raw, some eat it cooked (in the form of sauce) while others make salad from it. The forms of eating the garden egg seems endless in our Nigerian society. The garden egg plant apart from being a source of vegetable, has numerous health benefits which are essential for the overall development of the human body and it’s acceptability cuts across religious, tribal, cultural and ethnic groups in Nigeria, hence the wide usage of the garden egg plant. Garden egg has a lot of health benefits which most people don’t know, garden egg is a type of fruit, and as we all know, fruits like garden eggs are very good for our body, but most people are unaware of the benefit they can derive from it. Garden egg among other fruits is beneficial and nourishing to the body. This natural fruit is rich in vitamin. Garden egg provides the body with both soluble vitamin and water soluble vitamins; they are rich in thiamin (vitamin B1) required for normal growth and proper functioning of the heart and Nervous system, Niacin (vitamin B6) needed for cellular respiration. More so, Garden egg is one of the anti cancer fruit which has been helping, for over decades, to fight against cancer and other horrible diseases; it is not a must for you to develop cancer, before you start looking for remedy, hence the saying ‘prevention is better than cure. In Most African countries, this fruit is a highly valued delicacy and constituent of the African food. It also represents fertility and blessing and thus, not common to find it served during wedding ceremonies in some communities across the African continent. No wonder, the Igbo Community in Nigeria can hardly do without eating garden eggs because of the health benefits derived from it. Botanically called Solanum Melongena, garden egg is an economic flowering plant belonging to the family solanaceae and widely distributed throughout the temperate and tropical regions. Members are mostly herbaceous plants, and the fruit is berry and the seeds have large endosperm and are grown mainly for food and medicinal purposes. According to Dr. Ndubuisi Nwakakwa, Deputy Provost Graduate Administration, Federal Collage of Complimentary and Alternative Medicine, Ikosi, Ketu, Lagos and physician/consultant Acupuncturist at Green leaves clinic and Acupuncture center, Ilasamaja, Lagos, “A high level of blood cholesterol level, more particularly low-density Tipoprotein cholesterol, is a primary risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, such as stroke and heart disease and garden egg has the power of reducing these risks ”. According to him “when compared to apples and oats, garden egg plant is more helpful for reducing cholesterol.” It also contains raw form is calories per 100g but this rises when dried. When cooked in oil, it contains more than 300 calories due to absorption of extra fat.” In addition, he stated that “Even though garden egg is generally said not to contain huge amount of protein and other nutrients, it is low in sodium and very rich in high dietary fibre, it is also high in potassium, a necessary salt that helps in maintaining the function of the heart and regulates blood pressure. Speaking further the acupuncturist said that garden egg is also rich in some nutrients “Being a member of vegetable family, it contains nutrients that include beta carotene, vitamins B6 E and foliate, calcium, iron and magnesium fibre.” The benefits of garden egg to the human body are numerous and some of them as postulated by Dr. Nwakakwa are good for sight, as it has positive effects on visual functions, it is also excellent for weight reduction. “It consumption may be of great benefits to glaucoma patients’ he opined. A study conducted by some experts, S. A. Igwe, Dora Akunyili and C. Ogbogu, Published in the 2003 issue of the journal of Ethno pharmacology on “Effects of Garden Egg on some visual functions of visually active Igbos of Nigeria” found that eating plenty of garden egg can help lower eye pressure in persons with glaucoma. For weight reduction, “this is the perfect recipe for achieving weight loss within a short period of time because it is very low in calorie content, and that is why experts are encouraging people that want to lose weight to eat more of the fresh form, just as they say people that are told to protect their heart against cholesterol effects should make it their delight” said Nwakakwa.

ABUJA—-The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Wednesday, remanded an ally to Governor Ayodele Fayose, Mr. Abiodun Agbele, in Prison custody over his alleged complicity in N4.6billion fraud. Trial Justice Nnamdi Dimgba remanded Agbele at Kuje Prison after he was docked by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on an 11-count criminal charge. The anti-graft agency alleged that the defendant had between April 4 and November 13, 2014, connived with the then Minister of Defence for State, Musliu Obanikoro, Lt. A.O Adewale, Tunde Oshinowo and Olalekan Ogunseye to launder over N4.6bn from office of the National Security Adviser, NSA. It maintained that it was the erstwhile NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki, retd, that facilitated the transfer of the fund into the Zenith Bank account of a firm, Sylvan Mcnamata Ltd, with Agbele as the sole signatory. Noting that the fund was siphoned from account the NSA office operated with the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, EFCC, told the court that Obanikoro and other persons that were fingered in the illicit transfer, are currently at large. Whereas count-two of the charge disclosed that the accused persons, on June 17, 2015, took possession of over N1.2bn that was transferred from the CBN account, Agbele was alleged to had on the same day, wired N100million into a Zenith Bank account number 1010170969, belonging to another firm, Spotless Investment Ltd. Besides, EFCC alleged that Agbele, while being the Managing Director of De Privateer Ltd, on or about June 18, 2014, retained about N219m in Zenith Bank account number 1013835889, of the firm, when he ought to have known that the said fund formed part of the proceeds of unlawful activity of the former NSA, Dasuki. According to the agency, the defendant transferred N300m and N200m into the same account on June 19 and 23, 2014. Out of the total loot, EFCC told the court that the defendant, on June 26, 2014, transferred N137m into Fayose\’s account domiciled in Zenith Bank (Akure Branch) with account number 1003126654. Also cited as defendants in the charge marked FHC/ABJ/ CR/154/2016, were the three indicted firms, Sylvan Mcnamara, De Privateer Ltd and Spotless Investment Ltd. Meanwhile, Justice Dimgba adjourned till Thursday to decide whether or not Agbele should be released on bail pending his trial. The defendant had after he pleaded not guilty to the charge, begged the court through his lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, to grant him bail. Ozekhome contended that charges against his client were all bailable offences, saying he ought to be presumed innocent until ingredients of the charge are established by the projection. |

Protest over looting of Ekiti, groups urge Fayose to resign …support for Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, erupted in protest on Friday as many interest groups storm the streets to condemn the alleged looting of the state treasury by Governor Ayo Fayose. They declared their support for the anti-corruption crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari and called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to bring Fayose and all those who participated in the alleged looting of Ekiti to justice. The protest which was organized by a non-governmental organization, Be The Change Organization (BCO) also saw labour unions, Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), artisans, market women, youth organizations and student bodies participating. The placard-carrying protesters who had gathered at Fajuyi Roundabout earlier in the day commenced their march at about 8.50 am and moved towards, Okesa, Ojumose before terminating the rally at Okeyinmi Roundabout in the heart of the town. The demonstrators expressed outrage at the alleged diversion of funds meant for the purchase of arms to fight insurgency in the Northeast to sponsor Fayose’s governorship campaign. Some of their placards read: “Support Anti-Corruption Crusade, Probe Executive Looting in Ekiti”, “We Don’t Want a Criminal as our Governor in Ekiti”, “Fayose Stole N750 million from Ado-Ifaki Road Account,” Grids Associates, Fayose’s Conduit Pipe”, “Fayose’s Wife is a Fake Prophetess, where is Ekiti’s N100 million”, “What Happened to Ekiti Airport Fund”, “Fayose Must Go”, “Access Bank is Aiding Fraud in Ekiti”, Fayose is a Disgrace to Ekiti People”, among others. They distributed leaflets to traders, commercial drivers, pedestrians and bystanders detailing how the state treasury is being allegedly looted and the personalities and corporate organizations believed to be involved. The protesters got a security cover from officers and men of the Ekiti State Police Command who ensured that the demonstration was not hijacked by hoodlums. Executive Director of BCO, Mrs. Omotunde Fajuyi, said Ekiti people are embarrassed by the latest revelation of Fayose’s link with N4.7 billion arms cash adding that all Nigerians must support any move to recover the peoples commonwealth from looters. She said Ekiti people are people of honour and integrity but expressed dismay that Fayose’s conduct in power has brought shame and odium on all Ekitis both at home and abroad. Mrs. Fajuyi said: “We support President Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade, we have come out to protest looting of our money, corruption in government and scandals digging this government in Ekiti. “Workers are dying at home, we want Fayose to explain what he has done with allocations he had so far collected because he had received more than N50 billion as allocation since he came to power. “Fayose claims to be a Christian, he must come out clean and give account to the people of Ekiti State and he must submit himself and all his aides and associates to anti-corruption agencies for investigation ” A youth leader, Adeoye Aribasoye, challenged Fayose to explain what he did with ecological funds and N9.6 billion bailout funds he received from the Federal Government. Aribasoye said: “We have a governor who is richer than the state, a governor who has over N4 billion in his account he is the only one who can exp,a in what he has done with all the funds he had received from federal authorities. “He must explain the N2.4 billion ecological funds because we don’t know what has happened to the money, he must answer for the revelations of Ekitigate. “Pupils and students of public schools have been out home for over four weeks due to the strike embarked upon by civil servants and teachers.” The court-validated Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Kolawole Olaiya, urged the EFCC to probe the whereabouts of the N9.6 billion bailout money released for the payment of workers, pensioners and past political office holders. He lamented the suffering of civil servants in the state who are owed six month arrears of salaries noting that this has crippled the economy of the state. Olaiya said: “Corruption is responsible for the inability of Ekiti State government to pay workers’ salaries for six months. With the present revelation that several billions of Naira has been discovered in the sitting governor’s account, it is a confirmation that the governor is corrupt. “Ekiti workers still believe that the N9.6 billion bailout is kept somewhere and we urge the EFCC to institute a probe into this fact so that workers can receive their six months salary arrears and secure their future. “Government is created for welfare and security of the people and Governor Fayose has done nothing to improve the people and secure their today and their future. Enough of these lies, Ekitk people must be liberated. “Today in Ekiti State, public primary and secondary school students, including those in private schools are now paying taxes. This must stop. It is at variance with the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, imposition of obnoxious taxes in Ekiti State must stop. “We want Ekiti State workers to note that Fayose is nobody’s friend; that is teachers, civil servants, public servants, local government workers, artisans, driver unions etc must note that Fayose is not your friend. “Workers are dying for non-pay,net of salaries for six months including pensioners. Do you want trend to continue? Fayose must be brought to book not minding Section 308 immunity. “It is criminal not to pay workers and pensioners for six months. It is also criminal for s governor to be corrupt. The federal government sent N9.6 billion to Ekiti State as bailout, how was the bailout expended and who are the beneficiaries? What amounts to our IGR is not known to the people.” Speaking on behalf of artisans, Idowu Ayegbe said: “We regret all the burden the governor has imposed on us in Ekiti in form of levies and taxes on our pupils. We are not happy with what the governor is doing including his attacks on the President.” The state CNPP spokesman, Ayo Adelabu demanded Fayose’s resignation from office in the face of new evidence of alleged corruption calling on the management of Zenith Bank to come out and explain their role in the alleged funding of his campaign. Adelabu added: “We are calling on Fayose tore sign from office over his failure to live up to expectation he should come out and defend himself in the N4.7 billion arms deal scandal and we also challenge him to explain to Ekiti people how he had spent six months allocation without payment of workers which has grounded the workforce. “The CNPP warns Fayose to stop abusing Mr. President who has been enjoying the full support of the majority of Ekiti people. “The CNPP strongly condemns Ekiti State legislators who have turned themselves to political slaves in the hand of Fayose. The governor should also come out and explain the N2.3 billion loan he took from bank. “The CNPP advises Governor Fayose to immediately stop the flyover bridge project and caution his political thugs against the attack of innocent people in the state.” Meanwhile, an interest group, Ekiti Redemption Group (ERG), has called on Fayose to pay all the six month arrears of workers’ salaries or face a legal action and “unending protests”. The group gave Fayose a seven-day ultimatum to pay all arrears of salaries and pensions failure of which the administration will be dragged to court to explain how treasury is being managed. ERG National Coordinator, Morakinyo Ogele, in a statement on Friday said Fayose’s campaign was anchored on stomach infrastructure but expressed surprise that his administration has unleashed hunger, hardship and untimely death on people through poverty and financial recklessness. Ogele said: “It is unbelievable that Fayose is concentrating on useless projects like a flyover while civil servants are dying as a result of not having money to take care of themselves and their families. “It is amazing that government is owing civil servants six months salaries, Fayose has thrown the welfare of the people away and prefer useless projects criticizing Federal Government and wasting millions of Naira on advertisements. “There is no doubt that Ekiti State government is confused and chasing anti-people programmes. A responsible government should see to the welfare of the people and where government is irresponsible, such a government should be thrown out. “It is high time we told Fayose to resign immediately. Ekiti State government is hereby out on notice to pay all the arrears of civil servants within seven days otherwise I will not hesitate to mobilize the people for a mass action and protest and at the same time drag the government to court.”
