RomanceRe: The UK Dating Trap: What Many Nigerians Don't See Coming by Shikena(m): 2:42pm On Jul 12
I see where you mixed up my point.

I mentioned individual paycheck differences to de-emphasize an unnecessary comparison.

India's immigrants population in the UK is estimated to be about 4 times Nigeria's figure of about 400,000 people. Guess what, Nigeria's annual private remittance total from the UK is also approximately a quarter of India's figure.

In conclusion, Nigerians are comfortably at the top of diaspora remittances per capita alongside other top flyers. There is no basis for any conclusion that a Nigerian works more jobs for equivalent paycheck. Anyone who has lived out there knows this. More job is just to earn more in total not because of lower hourly income compared with Indians, for example.

My reference to paycheck disparity is about different workplace wages and not about nationality. There is a UK law that re-emhasized that even in 2010.

By the way, I work with a global consulting firm & move around a lot. Not that it matters here.

MrPresident1:
No be you present evidence of segregated pay structure? I should propound evidence for what you said, is that what ytou are saying?

How many Indians are care workers in UK compared to Nigerians? So if there are more Nigerian care workers it means they have to work five or more jobs every 24hours? How do they keep up? Are they donkeys?

Why are you forming knowledgeable on other peoples matters, do you know Nigerian labour law? See you talking about 'violation of UK employment law' na yua papa formulate the UK employment !aw? Can you know more about it than the formulators?
RomanceRe: The UK Dating Trap: What Many Nigerians Don't See Coming by Shikena(m): 11:18am On Jul 12
Explain what you mean?
Any evidence of this segregated pay structure in the UK?
I'm hearing this for the first time, it's a clear violation of UK employment law, and I don't want to simply jump off to google or AI summarized search analysis since you appear to have some evidence.
Let's fact check this obvious misinformation.

*Out of curiosity, have you ever stepped outside Nigeria?

MrPresident1:
Nigerians in UK have to work three or four times more to send in a fraction of what the indians are sending into their own country as diaspora remittances

It looks like modern day slavery.
RomanceRe: The UK Dating Trap: What Many Nigerians Don't See Coming by Shikena(m): 9:06pm On Jul 11
It depends on your paycheck.

People don't earn the same paycheck anywhere. In Nigeria, an engineer may earn N3m a month at a multinational while a teacher may earn N120k a month. It's the same abroad.

A care worker may work 2 jobs to make a fraction of what a cybersecurity engineer or doctor earns in a few hours.

Nigeria has loads of licensed doctors, dentists, engineers, pharmacists and nurses everywhere. Most of them don't need 2 jobs but some have major projects in Nigeria and other places so they may need additional income with other employers.

MrPresident1:
I understand the Indians send more. Do they work three to four jobs too?

It is not a general rule and it's not true everyone works double job. People opt for that for multiple reasons and there is a reason why Nigeria is ONE OF THE TOP GLOBAL DESTINATIONS FOR DIASPORA REMITTANCE. So those double shifts are not necessarily for bills. Nigerians are well known everywhere for money transfer to their people or projects in Nigeria.

MrPresident1:
If this is how UK truly is, why are people still struggling to go thwr? I mean why cant only one job pay all your bills, are you a Jacky? Why work so hard and have no time for nothing else, are you a slave?

Only work work work you have no time to socialise, no time to nurture a relationship, no time to raise children, just chasing Pounds sterling and unending bills

More assumptions?

1 - Japa is personal decision, not community decision.

2 - No one told you Japa is immunity from issues. Only a dimwit would even say or believe that in the first instance.

3 - Japa comes with all sorts of issues but not one size fits all, so it’s the same way we have it in Nigeria. Two friends from the same village are likely going to have different experiences in Lagos or Abuja.

4 - Depending on the place, japa gets most immigrants settled and productive within a short time. Immigration or japa is nothing new. It's as old as humanity. So those telling you they made the best decision are not wrong and those who failed abroad are also not wrong, they made the wrong decision as they are not good fit for their chosen destination.

QuinQQ:
Give examples. Why is it we believe people when they say japa is the best decision they ever made but we don't believe them when they say they're having issues?

Romance (STARTING a relationship) requires going out with someone and doing stuff or just hanging out - in other words "wasting" time.

Many of those people are NOT refusing to come back, they CAN'T! Nobody who can afford to fly to Nigeria and relax will refuse to go!

I was reading a guy who japa to Chile and was saying it was wonderful. That was his experience. If you go to a place and you're happy and things are going well for you, there is no way you won't want people back home to know you're happy and doing great!

EducationRe: Alumni Mobilize ₦100bn As FG Approves Concession Of King’s College by Shikena(m): 11:09am On Jul 11
KC is on a totally different level.

naptu2:
Background

I have been talking to senior members of the Kings College Old Boys Association for months and this is basically what's happening.

The Federal Military Government announced the take over of missionary schools in the 1970s. They believed that it was a security risk to put the education of Nigerian children in the hands of foreign missionaries. They handed the schools over to state and local governments.

However, states and local governments have a lot of responsibilities and Nigeria developed serious economic problems in the 1980s and 1990s. The state and local governments did not properly fund the schools and they became run down and were in a bad shape. There was a massive campaign that the schools should be returned to their original owners who were able to run them properly.

One of the first actions of the Bola Tinubu administration in Lagos in 1999 was to announce that the schools would be handed back to their original owners.

The return of the first batch of schools was completed in 2001.

The churches, other private owners and former students pumped a lot of money into the schools. Schools that looked like war zones when they were run by the Lagos State Government (no windows, no electricity, etc) were now looking like schools in developed countries.

This caused a bad feeling among Kings College Old Boys. Kings College was founded by the Colonial Government in 1909 and it has been run by the Federal Government of Nigeria since 1958. Some of the most famous people in Nigeria attended the school and it was seen as a model government school. However, it has not been well funded in recent decades. Some schools that Kings College was far ahead of in the 1980s were now soaring far ahead of KC. These schools looked advanced, while KC now looked like the war zone.

These Kings College Old Boys have been campaigning that the government should hand the school over to them so that they can transform it just like the missionary schools have been transformed. They have been touring old boys associations of the returned schools to learn how they transformed the schools, so that the can do the same at KC.

However, there is a problem. Some teachers complained in 1999 when the Lagos State Government announced that it would hand schools back to the missionaries. This was because they were afraid that they would get sacked.

The Lagos State Government and the churches had to assure the teachers that they have a choice to remain in the returned schools or to move to other Lagos State Government owned schools.

Similarly, Dr Oby Ezekwesili tried to concession Unity (Federal Government owned) schools when she was minister of education, but the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) launched a massive propaganda campaign against her because they were afraid that their members would be sacked.

The NUT scared parents by telling them that they would be made to pay high school fees that they could not afford and so the parents also started protesting and President Obasanjo cancelled the programme.

"Protect your data: Treat your NIN as top-secret information. Do not share it with unverified third-party agents promising fast-track services."

This is a serious issue but we have not invested enough in educating the people in government and private sector about this. I have seen multiple people asked to submit their NIN number and even scanned copies before they are enrolled in some government assistance programmes and even banks. When these officials are warned about the privacy implication, they simply waive it off as you take it or leave it.
It is okay to submit the information but it must be via proper secure channels.

We are all making assumptions here until the facts come out. I never said he acted alone and I never said it's a one off, you made those up, he already said it himself that he worked with an influential partner who was later found dead in a hotel fire incident in October last year and he had phone conversations with someone who claimed to be Gbaja. In legal parlance, there is a term called organized crime and it's used for a reason.

Criminal investigations have no place for pick and choose assumptions and emotions but a thorough understanding of all possibilities is important while discussing such cases. You simply can't discountenance any possibility in place of easy assumption.

Whatever actually happened is the fact in any investigation, not what makes sense in the mind of you or I. There is no right or wrong assumption while investigating a case.

Pacesetter123:
No, this one is more than what you said.
No single ordinary Nigerian can pull this type of stunt on his/her own to the extent we are seeing this one play out.
If it was a one time fraudulent act,I would have said,ok..oo,a single individual can dare.
But you see this one, Adeniyi Adeyemi,no matter how daring he is, cannot pull this through on his own without the backing of some powerful entity in the presidency.
Don't allow anybody to deceive you.
Check this out nah;
*Head Service allocate office space to him.
*SGF recommend him for international conferences
*Chief of Staff allow him audience with the members of the president's cabinet.
*The Foreign Affairs minister sanctioned his meetings with members of the Diplomatic Corp
*SGF recommend and the HoCS gives approval for employment of 300 workers of the Agency
*Accountant General admitted their names into the integrated payroll system and pays them salary till today
*SGF,Chief of Staff and the Budget office prepared the budget for him and defended it before the NASS
*IGP assigned police escorts to him

No,no,no..it is not possible to do that alone. He was sent by some powerful people in Aso Rock. They were the ones that gave him the appointment letter and everything.
The agreement was to use him and the Agency to siphon money which they have been doing until there was a disagreement in the sharing formula.
PoliticsRe: "I Was A Victim Too" — Kalu Speaks On Alleged Fake Presidential Council (Video) by Shikena(m): 9:24pm On Jul 08
It's daring but not as difficult as people think, especially in our oga at the top mentality environment. Daring criminals can pull crazy stunts and get away with it. I have seen several instances where security officials just look at your security badge and ask you to bless the boys. Lots of ministry officials are too lazy or docile to even scrutinize any document. If you say you are from the presidency or governor's office, you are likely going to get away with it, at least until Mr Adeyemi's ongoing case. They don't want to cross the path of any high level official.

RomanceRe: “There’s No True Love In The UK” – Lady Cries Out, Advises Nigerians To Bring Th by Shikena(m): 10:44pm On Jul 03
It is the truth in some cases, not in all cases. These stuff are not set in stone. I know many couples abroad that met each other abroad and are waxing stronger every day and I know several that even came to America together as a couple and are no longer together. People just love to generalize. Human beings are not mechanical devices with predictable patterns, even twins have totally different characters.

Amotolongbo:
She is actually saying the truth, though very few ones are lucky. Nothing beats getting married in Nigeria or have a “true love” before travelling out of Nigeria. (Please I am talking about those that already have the true love before travelling, not those abroad surfing the internet for true love)

Many of the Naija girls traveled with the mentality of getting a man who could settle their bills like it is done in Nigeria, mbah! That does not happen in the western world.

Some ladies even travel with the mentality of marrying white men, the whites hardly have the marriage mentality these days, they just want partnership and not marriage. Some of the whites I met said marriage is “old-fashioned”, typical of the older generation and not fancied by this generation.

In Nigeria, ladies enjoy a lot of attention from men on the street. In UK, men could hardly gaze on girls for long or approach ladies on the street to start requesting for phone numbers, hence it’s going to be an assault. So everyone dey on his/her lane.

To those enjoying the chaos in Nigeria, a time is coming when Nigeria will become a stable system and no more free money outside of your legitimate income.

The so-called stingy have their ways of helping the poor and the needy.

The real poor and the needy do not call anyone stingy. It is the lazy ones who think they are smart and are always taking advantage of others that label people stingy.

The effort they invest in begging, manipulating, and coming up with all sorts of scams could be used in productive ventures but they do not have such patience and integrity to build something sustainable.
