Nigerians are foolish people. Still arguing in 2017 about whose tiny little inconsequential tribe is better. Religion and our various cultures distracts us from the real issues.

It's funny that some people think that breaking the nation into tiny little tribes will lead to success. Ethnic and religious issues will continue, but the difference is that each tiny little country will have it's own military inevitably leading to frequent small-scale wars. We'll all be back to pre-colonial era... constant inter-tribal war, no long-term peace, no political and economic stability; therefore, no growth and success!

There's a simpler way out. Dismantle the stranglehold of religion and create a new cultural identity. Culture is dynamic, not static. It has been done many times in history especially to nations on the losing end of a war. Every little aspect of culture can be consciously modified, even up to the type of food a group of people consume. Intermarriages, migrations via economic development of new areas, common law for all, prioritizing scientific education etc. Huge changes in behavior will emerge within 2-3 generations.

At best, the nation breaks in two because the northerners don't seem like people who will ever be willing to shed their culture+religion and fully integrate.

These things can be done but we have old useless leaders with zero foresight.
With people like you still existing, I still sight a faint hope for this nation. Kudos!

So much tribal & religion hatred in the land since the incompetent bubu forcefully took over power with the use of boko haram and lie Mohammed. I saw it coming, but bubu ass lickers are blind and deaf.

Some cursed people would still post IstandWithBuhari.

Buhari can't lead a develop country just for one month, he would be stoned with tomato everywhere he goes.

If things get worse, how many countries are we dividing 9ja into, I curse the generation of the people that brought us together in the first place.

I don't think breaking up is the right decision anymore, people will always come up continuously with this option because of greed.

All we need is the right man up there, someone that is not influenced with tribe or religion sentiment. Educated person with the right ideas and policies to make the country great.

#IStillBelieveIn9ja.

Bagehot:
The Alaafin is actually a superior king to the Ooni.

According to Legend, when Oduduwa was sharing his territory to his Sons, his most vallant - Oranmiyan was away at war. Upon Oranmiyan's return , he was given Oyo and dominion over his brothers - the original blood-lines of Oduduwa (Sabe, Popo, Ketu, Orangun, Owu).

Concerning Ife, there is a split over the story, Samuel Johnson (the legendary yoruba historian) wrote that the Ooni was actually the Chief Priest in Ife and was made ruler when Oduduwa died, hence the title 'O o ni' (You don't own it). the flip-side to the story is that in the absence of Oduduwa's legitimate sons upon his death, his illegitimate Son (born by his maid) - Obalufon became king, but was later deposed by Oranmiyan upon his return from his sojourn, who ordered that the kingship be given to him and hence back to the legitimate family of Oduduwa. Oranmiyan's son Lajamisan was therefore the progenitor of all of the Oonis that have reigned in Ife from his time till now.

Would have to check, but I think there is a traditional appellation for the Alaafin signalling that he is Oduduwa's heir.
Your history knowledge has been diluted.

Ooni is never a chief priest, the throne was created by Oduduwa himself and he was the first on the throne. Obalufe was the second in command and he acted as such after the demise of Oduduwa, he never mounted Ooni throne. When oranyan came back, he ordered the throne to be given back to him.

We are even taking history from the existence of Oduduwa, not after when Oranyan came back to rule. Oranyan is the last son of numerous sons of Oduduwa now, that is later years. He was the 6th Ooni. That is 13th century

Oduduwa built an effective centralized power and dynasty as the first Ooni and progenitor of the legitimate kings of the Yoruba race.
No throne nears his.

And I don't know of any chief priest throne you're referring to.
The only powerful Orisa in Ife I read about is Obatala, he was ruling in Ife before Oduduwa deposed him.

Obatala is the Sky Father and the creator of human bodies, which were brought to life by Olodumare's smooth breath. Obatala is the father of all Orishas.

Obatala is Olodumare's Second son. He is the one authorized by Olodumare to create land over the water beneath the sky, and it is he whom according to history founded the first Yoruba city, which is Ife. Obatala is Olodumare's representative on earth.

His status is in Bahia (Latin America) as dated and he his celebrated in a yearly festival in El Salvador.

History has always been my best subject, and I strive to know more.
We are all learning more on this thread though, but I will research your claim.

Please let us not distort history...Ooni is not a king...Please go and get ur facts together...Ooni was a chief priest to Oduduwa and was in charge of all the deities in Ife land...He was never a child of Oduduwa and not entitled to rule ..He was assigned to keep the home when Oduduwa died and none of his children were around since they have gone to sojourn and capture other territories for themselves...Please don't say that OONI is a king in the presence of a a true OYO PRINCE...Ask anybody what is the meaning of Arole Odua...
What trash are you saying? I read history a bit for a novice like you to convince me.

Oduduwa represents omnipotency.

And Oduduwa was the first Ooni, King of Ile Ife with the titles (Olofin).

Ooni is not in the class of any King in Yoruba Land.

Ooni is an ancestor with a place of his own.

Are you not seeing the Crown Ooni is wearing? Or do I need to start narrating or tutoring you with Yoruba signs and symbols?

Please take your time o!

Lagos is not the largest in Yoruba states, not to talk of Nigeria or Africa. Get your facts right!

I don't know of other tribes, but don't ever put Alafin of Oyo above Ooni of Ife.
That's an Insult to Ododuduwa and Yoruba race.

I dont think it cover anything oooo
Just paper so police can not arrest u for driving without one.

Think about it what will 5k cover na
Panel beater, broken light or what
Insurance companies feed fat from Nigerians like you that are not informed, and don't go for claims in eventualities. Your 5k yearly covers your 3rd party up to 500—1m depending on the insurance company you took, and very easy process against your thought.

Pictures of the accident site and a police report, see contact information on your insurance certificate.

Just go to sleep and be thinking of how to repair your own car, while your insurance takes care of the car you damaged.

It's not up to 40days to process, from the one I experienced if you can prove the scenario and have witness from scene.

Note: If your insurance certificate is not genuine, you would have been arrested long ago on the road by VIO.
One they've checked you before and let you go, your cert is genuine.

CrimeWe Rob To Celebrate Xmas/newyear Like Rich Men by shinel(op): 2:30am On Dec 30, 2016
We robbed to celebrate Xmas like rich men — Suspects

A suspected armed robber, Ugochukwu Nnaji, has said that he and other members of his gang decided to rob during the Yuletide in order to celebrate the period like the rich in the society.

Nnaji was one of the two suspects arrested by the operatives of the Imo State Police Command. The suspects specialised in trailing and dispossessing unsuspecting bank customers of their money.

Speaking with Southern City News after they were paraded by the Imo State Police Command in Owerri, Nnaji said the coming of Christmas and New Year usually reminded them that it was time to rob bank customers and enjoy like the rich within the period.

He pointed out that the money they made from menial jobs was always not enough for them to live big like wealthy people, adding that they had been in the “business” (robbing bank customers) for a long time.

“We do it in every festive period, especially Christmas and New Year to also celebrate the period lavishly like others, who have made money. The menial jobs we do would not make us be in line with others during the celebration,” Nnaji, who was arrested on Friday alongside his friend, Chibueze Mgboji, told newsmen.
The duo was arrested by the police after they allegedly attacked a new generation bank and carted away a huge sum of money.

Nnaji, a native of Oboro Amurie in Isu Local Government Area, and Mgboji, a native of Obudi Agwa in Oguta LGA were said to be a two-man gang that specialised in trailing and robbing bank customers in the state capital.

Briefing newsmen at the command’s headquarters, Owerri, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, confirmed that the suspects were apprehended while escaping with money stolen from a Fidelity Bank customer in Ikenegbu, Owerri.

The CP, who stated that the alarm raised by the victim attracted operatives of the police, said,
“They were immediately given a hot chase and were apprehended.
“Their loot was instantly recovered as they tried to escape. The two suspects, who have confessed to the crime, will soon be charged to court.”
Lakanu noted that the criminals rode on a motorcycle, stating that the two suspects had earlier monitored another bank customer (name withheld) and snatched his bag containing N150, 000.

Lakanu said, “Immediately he came out of the bank with a bag containing money, the duo, operating on a motorcycle, waylaid him and snatched the bag.”
