This is what i am saying. Why da hell should we be competiting?
the lack of healthy competition is the current situation we are all experiencing in Nigeria right now . If all the states were all to experience a what u earn is what u get situation u would see how each state would strive to outdo each other in providing suitable investment ground for investors and provide suitable policies that would cause investors to favour them and provide jobs for its residents not for everyone to rush to Lagos cause there are other alternatives then I don't see how the lives of Nigerians would not improve. I think competition can be a good thing as long that it is controlled via the constitution

We should learn from our fathers by not practising regionalism. This will not stop tribalism or the hate. We cannot live as one. There will always be differences. I am a realist here. When you have people who dont like themselves, how can such country work? This is why i said we should learn from our fathers.
I have said my own ooo. I do not support regionalism but total disintegration.
Oodua republic can practise regionalism, but not nigeria.
when people say the era of regionalism brought ethnic sentiments I get confused because for me all I saw was the intense competition unlike this current contraption in which the states wait for the federal government to dish out money hence no need to compete and outdo each other thus leading to development.
Politics / Re: A Restructured Nigeria: How It Should Look Like by shobenward: 8:00am On Jun 29, 2017
I support those that argue that Nigeria should have 6 regions and even more importantly the constitution must acknowledge all the ethnic tribes in Nigeria, no matter their size..Each region would have resource control and would each have their own sub constitution designed along their ethnic practices i.e the north east could base their constitution on sharia if they so please. This regions would then create states along their sub ethnic leanings i.e The Yoruba region could create states such as ijebu, Egba .The South South could create ijaw and itshekiri states etc.with each of this states having representatives at the respective parliament of each region.
The federal level should be a parliamentary system headed by a prime minister who will function as head of government and a president as head of state and will also double as president of the Senate. The Federal government would only be largely concerned with foreign affairs coordination and defence, border security.
Education would be a joint affair between the regions and the federal government .
All items on the concurrent and the residual list would be handled by the regions with the power to devolve them to their respective states. This is my idea of an ideal Nigeria where the South will not feel threatened by the northern conservative attitude and each region would develop at its own determined pace free from external pressures and would even begin to adopt their own indigenous language as official languages in their respective domains and would adopt their own educational syllabi without fear of one religion over the other with minimal input from the federal level. Each contributing to the centeredness their own fair share.

It thugs on my heart whenever other tribe mostly the remain 2 majority (Hausa & Yoruba) accuse the Ibo's alleging they take-up all the jobs and businesses in the eastern region and also come to theirs to harass them. It will be worth mentioning that within this country of ours, Ibo's are the most travelled. They are spread all over Nigerian and don't hesitate to build and establish a noticeable presence not out of a back-hand aim to dominate, but for their own comfort.

While the Ibo's are penetrating other regions, their counterparts from other regions sat tight within their own enclave. The few that found their way to the eastern region don't do much outside the confines of whatever it was that took them there. Enugu, Owerri, Umuahia, Portharcourt, Calabar etc, all these places are emerging cities, nobody will stop a Hausa or Yoruba man from buying up properties, taking up jobs or establishing big businesses there. The people of the east have never stopped or usurped the plan of a Hausa or Yoruba man from doing business or owning properties within their region.

In conclusion, their lack of presence in the east is their making and not because they were stopped.
Without being biased I would say that the major deterrent to their presence in the east is largely due to Ibo land tenure system. Whilst this tenure system ensures that land remains within the Ibo family its largely disadvantageous to the non Ibo tribes. Even if land is granted to externals he is still made to feel that the land tenure is temporary unlike other parts of Nigeria even the South West where the omo onile operate, once they are paid their dues they vanish unlike the ibos who wouldn't consider selling due to fear of retribution from his kinsmen. I know u will probably want to mention the Nigerian land tenure system law that guarantees fair allocation of land it does not go far enough to legislate the Ibo mentality. This system ensures that the land is not pollutted by foreign culture but it also deters business investments from other tribes. I'm sure anyone who studied estate mgmt will understand.

Armaggedon:
going by your theory that wars perpetually stop population growth, then yoruba race would have gone into extintion following long years of bloody kiriji wars (including ekiti parapo and fulani incursions) but if you believe that yoruba population grew afterwards then it is hypocricy to assume otherwise for Igbo.
a civil war fought with machines and guns ,gun powder was even outdated in that war compared to an ethnic squabble between a tribe fought with cutlass and the rich few that could afford Dane guns. Anyway I'm not saying that their population stagnated but it gave other tribes the natural advantage and basically a head start

You are really funny.

You should have asked yourself, how they got a % for each tribe in today's Nigeria when we haven't conducted a census based on tribe.

Is it not wise to ignore the issue of % until a census based on tribe is conducted.

As for losing lives during the war, most were mainly children who were quickly replaced after the war as people sort to give birth to more kids to replace those lost during the war.
you have a point but in considering the fact that most were children and they were easily replaced we have to also give due consideration to the other tribes that did not need to replace their children but yet did not feel the need to pause for their other brother to complete the process of replacement bearing the fact that this tribe consists of people who are mostly practicing monogamy due to their fervent Christian upbringing and the other tribes either have a religion that supports polygamy,do not give a damn,or are famed for their notorious taiye's and kehinde's. In the end size and population does not help anybody our big brother up north can tell us more about it,just wish each major tribe could be given a good measure of autonomy to decide their destiny without having to wait on Abuja just like the early days of regionalism and the smaller tribes would rally around them each with his own kin without fear of subjugation by the bigger tribe

My goodness when they say people in Nigeria have selective amnesia there's a truth to it. A certain tribe lost over 3million people during a particular civil war and before that there was a progrom against that same tribe on the north where the news then was that virtually every member of that tribe residing in the north were wiped out in retaliation for a certain coup the few survivors ran back to their land without their properties. Take note Nigeria's population was barely reaching a100 million then one can now begin to imagine the percentage of their total population that was lost.

And what is the UN going to do about it. Was gowon ever convicted of his war crimes?
It's bad, but it's one of the horrible things that happen during a war time.
foodstuff from foreign donors was allowed by awolowo and approved by gowon but the ojukwu govt was suspicious,so it was abandoned. That is why he (gowon) cannot be blamed for starvation during the biafra war..ojukwu felt it may have been poisoned..

Is so shameful that the Yoruba people who almost crucified Jonathan are quiet today under Buhari neglect of them.Yoruba's have neva depended on federal govt.and have for a fact being maligned by federal govt for a long while even under obj and still their development has not been stifled.

Firefire , to be frank to you, Buhari will set the Yoruba nation backward as he did in the 80s which gave other tribes the opportunity to surpass the advantages Yoruba people had above all others after the civil war

By the end of Buhari's rule, the Yoruba people will fall behind a minority group in terms of progress and development.

I don't think creating more states is the answer.rather we should return to regionalism but the constituting ethnic tribes can create their respective provinces or states in their respective regions
