Foreign AffairsThe Six-day War That Made Israel Mighty by Shukushaka(op): 2:06pm On May 12, 2021
Six-Day War
Middle East [1967]

Relations between Israel and its neighbours were not normalised after the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. In 1956 Israel invaded the Sinai peninsula in Egypt, with one of its objectives being the reopening of the Straits of Tiran that Egypt had blocked to Israeli shipping since 1950. Israel was eventually forced to withdraw, but was guaranteed that the Straits of Tiran would remain open. A United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) was deployed along the border, but there was no demilitarisation agreement.[25]

In the months prior to June 1967, tensions became dangerously heightened. Israel reiterated its post-1956 position that the closure of the Straits of Tiran to Israeli shipping would be a cause for war (a casus belli). Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser announced in May that the Straits would be closed to Israeli vessels, and then mobilised Egyptian forces along the border with Israel, ejecting UNEF.[26] On 5 June, Israel launched a series of airstrikes against Egyptian airfields, initially claiming that it had been attacked by Egypt, but later stating that the airstrikes were preemptive.[27][28] The question of which side caused the war is one of a number of controversies relating to the conflict.[29]

The Egyptians were caught by surprise, and nearly the entire Egyptian Air Force was destroyed with few Israeli losses, giving the Israelis air supremacy. Simultaneously, the Israelis launched a ground offensive into the Gaza Strip and the Sinai, which again caught the Egyptians by surprise. After some initial resistance, Nasser ordered the evacuation of the Sinai. Israeli forces rushed westward in pursuit of the Egyptians, inflicted heavy losses, and conquered the Sinai.[28]

Jordan had entered into a defence pact with Egypt a week before the war began; the agreement envisaged that in the event of war Jordan would not take an offensive role but would attempt to tie down Israeli forces to prevent them making territorial gains.[30] About an hour after the Israeli air attack, the Egyptian commander of the Jordanian army was ordered by Cairo to begin attacks on Israel; in the initially confused situation, the Jordanians were told that Egypt had repelled the Israeli air strikes.
Egypt and Jordan agreed to a ceasefire on 8 June, and Syria agreed on 9 June; a ceasefire was signed with Israel on 11 June. In the aftermath of the war, Israel had crippled the Egyptian, Syrian and Jordanian militaries, having killed over 20,000 troops while losing fewer than 1,000 of its own. The Israeli success was the result of a well-prepared and enacted strategy, the poor leadership of the Arab states, and their poor military leadership and strategy. Israel seized the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, from Jordan and the Golan Heights from Syria. Israel's international standing greatly improved in the following years. Its victory humiliated Egypt, Jordan and Syria, leading Nasser to resign in shame; he was later reinstated after protests in Egypt against his resignation. The speed and ease of Israel's victory would later lead to a dangerous overconfidence within the ranks of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), contributing to initial Arab successes in the subsequent 1973 Yom Kippur War, although ultimately Israeli forces were successful and defeated the Arab militaries. The displacement of civilian populations resulting from the war would have long-term consequences, as 280,000 to 325,000 Palestinians fled or were expelled from the West Bank[31] and over 100,000 fled from the Golan Heights.[32] Across the Arab world, Jewish minority communities fled or were expelled, with refugees going mainly to Israel.[33]

…to be known as the Six-Day (or June) War. Israel’s victory over Egypt and its allies was rapid and overwhelming.

Israel is hell bent on collecting all their ancestral land. Palestine is hell bent on keeping their country.
I'm trying to see things from Palestine angle but:
It's both their ancestral land, David captured Philistines(presentday palestine) and move Israel capital to Jerusalem. The war has been going from the biblical era and will never end. Google the Six-Day war, it's when the Arab countries surrounding Israel, fought Israel from all sides and still lost, Israel seized the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, from Jordan and the Golan Heights from Syria. Israel's international standing greatly improved in the following years.
The Hamas terrorists overtook Palestine government after winning the election in 2006...so it'll never end.

We have no other country, let’s stay united: Gov. Uzodimma

“Therefore, it behooves all of us, irrespective of our faith, to ensure that Nigeria is made the envy of other countries.”

NEWS AGENCY OF NIGERIA • MAY 12, 2021

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma
Governor Hope Uzodimma says Nigerians must work and pray to keep the country united as he called on Muslims to pray for unity.

Mr Uzodimma made the call in a statement by his chief press secretary, Oguwike Nwachukwu, in Owerri on Tuesday.

While congratulating the Muslim faithful on completing their Ramadan fast, he urged them to reflect on Prophet Muhammad’s teachings on love for one another and peaceful coexistence.

He advised them to hold on to their resilience, dedication, patience, and self-sacrifice in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and the threats of insecurity.

The governor said God had been gracious to Nigeria and urged both Muslims and Christians to remain steadfast in their prayers for a prosperous and united country.

“We do not have any other country to call our own, but Nigeria. Therefore, it behooves all of us, irrespective of our faith, to ensure that Nigeria is made the envy of other countries,” he said.

Mr Uzodimma noted that this year’s celebration had provided an opportunity to reflect on the awesomeness of God in the face of challenges.

He assured the celebrants of the government’s preparedness to protect the lives and property of all residents.

The governor also solicited their continuous prayers for the government while promising that his administration will always serve the interest of law-abiding residents.

Mr Uzodimma appealed to the Muslim faithful to spare some thoughts for the vulnerable, weak, and needy in their midst, urging them to show some love in the spirit of the celebration.

JUST IN: UGM burn down INEC, NDLEA offices in Abia under 24 hours

The wanton attacks continue to question the capacity of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to protect lives and properties.

CHUKWUEMEKA AYOMIDE • MAY 11, 2021

The office of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Amaekpu Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia state has been set ablaze in what seems to be a sustained campaign against security agencies by unknown gunmen.

The fresh attack comes barely 24 hours after an attack on the INEC office in the same local government area.

DailyTrust reports that the state NDLEA commandant, Akingbade Bamidele, said no casualty was recorded during the attack that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday.

The recurring pattern of attacks on government facilities in the South-South and South-East region have continued to raise concern on the general safety of citizens who may be caught in the crossfire between the attackers and the security operatives.

The wanton attacks continue to question the capacity of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to protect lives and properties in the region and the country at large.

Governors of the southern states met in Asaba, Delta State on Monday to deliberate on the worsening security situation plaguing the region. The gathering rose to demand that Mr Buhari address the nation on the challenges among other resolutions.

Peoples Gazette had last week reported how the INEC office in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State was also set on fire.

In April, The Gazette reported an attack on Imo governor Hope Uzodinma’s country home in Omuma, Oru East local government of the state.

Former police inspector general Mohammed Adamu accused the proscribed Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) of carrying out the deadly campaigns.

The group vowed to deal with Mr Uzodinma following the killing of its commander Ikonso by state forces in April.

The growing attacks on states across the country have forced more governors to re-emphasise the clamour for state policing.

Last week, Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba advised Mr Buhari to allow governors to experiment with state police to address the country’s security challenges.

According to Mr Ishaku, the primary responsibility of any democratic government is to secure the people and their property.

He added that governors were going through challenges and were helpless in dealing with insecurity as they have no power over security assets.

Traditional Sallah Celebration, Procession Cancelled In Buhari’s Hometown, Daura Over Insecurity
The event is usually held a day after Sallah celebrations, with prominent personalities and foreigners attending.

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKMAY 11, 2021

The Daura Emirate in Katsina state has cancelled the upcoming Sallah Durbar procession, also known as Hauwan Sallah, due to security challenges.

The event is usually held a day after Sallah celebrations, with prominent personalities and foreigners attending.

The emirate’s secretary, Alhaji Bello Ifo disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

Ifo said that special prayers will be offered for sustainable peace in the state immediately after the Eid prayers on Sallah day.

“His Highness, the Emir of Katsina, (Dr) Abdulmumini Kabir Usman has asked me to notify you and the rest of the people of Katsina State that due to security challenges in which our Muslim brothers in parts of the state are kidnapped or killed; and following advice from the state government, security and the ministry of health; the Emirate has decided not to hold the Hauwan Sallah and other related ceremonies.

“But as it is the tradition, people are allowed to go to the mosque for the Eid prayers, and supplications would be made for peace to reign in Katsina state and the country in general.

“The focus will be on performing special prayers on the Sallah day as soon as the Eid prayers are performed.

“You are by this notice to inform all the Imams to pray for President Muhammadu Buhari (Bayajida II) and other leaders for protection from all evils of the enemies of progress of this country, its stability, and its corporate existence."

Katsina, despite being the home state of President Muhammadu Buhari, has witnessed sporadic attacks by bandits and kidnappers that have claimed the lives of many.

Over 500 people have been reportedly killed by the gunmen in Jibia, Kankara, Dutsinma, Musawa, Danmusa and Safana local government areas of the state in the last five months.

On December 11, 2020, some bandits kidnapped 344 students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara. They were released about a week later.

Also on December 19, 84 Islamiyya students of Hizburrahim Islamiyya in Mahuta village, Dandume Local Government Area of the state were abducted but rescued shortly after.

About 40 worshippers were abducted from a mosque in the state on Monday, although the police claimed 30 of them have been rescued.

Ayet-to-be-identified Nigerian Army soldier has warned residents of Orlu town in Imo State to either relocate or be vigilant as some personnel had allegedly been given a shoot-at-sight order in the ongoing battle with the Eastern Security Network operatives.

The soldier, who spoke pidgin English in an audio obtained by SaharaReporters, added that he would not carry out the plan, and therefore, he had been allegedly marked by the army commander to be arrested and possibly killed.

Orlu has been a battleground of recent between the army and ESN operatives, with the military saying on Friday that it killed 11 ESN and IPOB operatives in a gun duel.

The soldier, who is attached to the 302 Artillery Regiment, Onitsha, Anambra State, warned residents of the town to relocate based on their commander's alleged order.

In the audio obtained by SaharaReporters, the soldier said, "They first carried us (deployed us) to Maiduguri (Borno State). Then, 25 of us came back hoping that the matter was ended. Then they carried us to 302 Artillery, Onitsha. All of us were inside the barracks in Onitsha till 12pm this afternoon.

"When the fight ended in Orlu, the commander now said anybody we see, we should fire them.

"I beg you, because of God, if your person is in Orlu, from now till Monday, try to inform them. Tell them to change the location for now. Immediately I left the barracks, the commander said I was going out to expose them and make sure they get me and kill me.

"See the cloth that I am putting on. I didn't buy these clothes with my money, if you follow this line, I was given this cloth and I have kept my uniform."

Men of the Nigerian military engaged bandits in a gunfire, foiling attempted abduction of a popular herdsman and his family in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Samuel Aruwan said on Friday.

In a statement made available to the press, Mr Aruwan, the state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, said one of the brigands was killed during the exchange.

“Troops and police operatives in the early hours of Friday, May 7, engaged armed bandits in the Rigachikun axis of the Kaduna-Zaria dual carriageway in Igabi LGA,” the commissioner narrated.

“The bandits had earlier attacked a Fulani settlement belonging to a popular herder, Damina Kukumake, at Kukumake village.

“The bandits who kidnapped some members of the herder’s family, also rustled several cattle and were making their escape when security agencies received a distress call.

“The security personnel comprising troops of the army and air force, as well as police operatives, made contact with the bandits as they attempted to cross the Kaduna-Zaria expressway.

“In the fierce gun duel, a notorious bandit was neutralised while many other bandits escaped with bullet wounds.

“During the gunfight, the abducted hostages escaped and the rustled cattle scattered.

“After a check, the remaining cattle were recovered as some were confirmed to have been killed in the skirmish.”

Mr Aruwan said the troops and police operatives were now combing the general area in a clearance operation.

A Calmer Look At Banditry

By
. .
Fri May 07 2021

By Muhammad Hassan-Tom

Of course, we all know it is one of the first trades to evolve in all human societies, probably after farming and before the proverbial prostitution because bandits are trousers-down the biggest customers of prostitutes and drug-peddlers. Politicians, with the exception of a few uncompromised souls, are also the prominent patrons of both bandits and prostitutes. Together, these three professionals can totally take over any shanty, state, country or even an entire sub-continent.

Citizens across the classes and divides need to seriously calm down when facing such a combo. Panic is absolutely counter-productive to a rapid evolution of any panacea. The angrier we get at the horrendous killings and destruction taking place across the country, the more confused we will become and confusion is exactly what bandits and their paymasters need to succeed. Remember what the combination of angst and misunderstanding led to in Rwanda of 1994 and you realise that we do not want to travel the Kigali Road.

2023: Offa backs Kwara gov for second term
Maltina teacher contest entry closes June
Calming down does not need dismissing or even diminishing the facts and figures. Indeed, it requires facing them. Between January and March 2021, Kaduna State alone recorded over 320 deaths and almost 1000 incidents of kidnapping. Over 200 other persons including infants and women were wounded and thousands of cows rustled in what appears as a free reign for the terrorists. The toll in terms of internally displaced persons is even untold. Dozens of whole towns and villages have been pillaged and razed, thousands of lives mowed down in the nearly decade-long rampage by the bandits elsewhere in Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Nasarawa, Niger, Taraba, Benue and Plateau states.

More ominously, farms and ranches including those located in the Kaduna International Airport general area are now totally no-go areas. Without the food, everyone, except the bandits who stole all the cattle and grains and their sponsors who’ve stashed hundreds of millions of dollars in the UAE, UK, US and elsewhere, should naturally starve to death. Presumably, the survivors will then inherit all the land and repopulate it using the abducted Chibok school-girls and thousands of other women still in their captivity. Foreign vultures are also waiting in the wings to devour the priceless carbons, precious stones and other countless natural resources. This is the veritable nightmare unfolding.

The fundamental question, however, is why are bandits from Borno to Lagos and from Sokoto to Rivers suddenly enjoying such a sensational rise and reign especially since the reinstatement of democracy in 1999?

Primarily, it is because politicians arm, brainwash, drug, use and then dump them. For instance, Boko Haram began with the unholy alliance with some politicians.  The confrontation that engulfed nearly all the country came when members demanded exemption from a state law requiring the use of safety helmets by motorcyclists. Heavy-handed response by law enforcement agents leading to the death of 17 of these violators, the arrest and extra-judicial liquidation of Yusuf in 2009 started the killing spree that is yet to be stopped.

Today, Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states remain shells (pun intended) of what they were just a decade ago. The ragtag terrorists have so far bombed around 80 percent of public infrastructure in the zone and sent successful suicide bombers that hit the Nigeria Police Headquarters and the UN office in Abuja.

Even though Boko Haram’s days of brazen bombings that kill hundreds in Abuja garages, Jos markets and Kano mosques seem over, we remain under threats from the ruthless beasts for the foreseeable future. This is just one brand of bandits set off by the selfish and illiterate antics of a single egomaniac.

Similar scenarios in most states account for the viral ascension of the outlaws everywhere.

Stopping the proliferation of banditry should begin by ending the demand pronto. Politicians must accept that polls, not thugs, ought to determine the outcome of elections. Winding up the supply chain of bandits requires disarming, disbanding, engaging, reorienting and rehabilitating the outlaws scattered in hundreds of camps located in remote forests and other ungoverned spaces nationwide.

Good governance is urgently required to reduce abject poverty, corruption and fraud, political influence, joblessness, lack of capital punishment and reverse the changing value system, aka quick-money syndrome. Others are public enlightenment and empowerment programmes, Sim cards registration, stopping ransom payments, introduction of community policing and reduction of small and light arms proliferation in the country.

Ending the demand and supply in a sustainable manner also requires members of the general public to be more law-abiding. There are so many bandits because we have all learned to bend the rules – divine and secular. Fraudulent artisans, bankers, businessmen, civil servants, clerics, journalists, jurists, parents, medics, teachers, security agents and even common traffic law violators among others cause more death and destruction than all the bandits combined.

Citizens are the recruitment arena and breeding ground for all felons. Injustice and not irreligiosity is the fertilizer. As Mahatma Ghandi put it, “Wealth without work, knowledge without character, commerce without morality, pleasure without conscience, science without humanity, worship without sacrifice and politics without principle lead to violence.”

Above all, we must realise that the hordes of bandits in the dark jungles will not substantially disappear until the crooks in power do. Corruption and conspicuous consumption, especially among political and public office holders, must be brought down to the barest minimum. Criminals become seemingly stronger than the state and utterly unstoppable whenever leaders at all levels lack the moral gumption to deter them.

APC tells Nigerians to keep supporting Buhari against Boko Haram, UGM

So far, not many Nigerians consider Mr Buhari’s campaign and fight against terror as successful. The president is accused of ineptitude and nepotism amid nationwide chaos.

The All Progressives Congress has called on Nigerians to continue to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s ongoing efforts to bring a permanent solution to the country’s security challenges.

So far, not many Nigerians consider Mr Buhari’s campaign and fight against terror as successful. The president is accused of ineptitude and nepotism amid nationwide chaos.

John Akpanudoedehe, National Secretary of the APC Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), made the call in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

He welcomed the release of the 29 students abducted from the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka in Kaduna, by bandits.

He noted that it was heartwarming news to know that the students were reunited with their families, friends, and other loved ones.

“We deeply appreciate all stakeholders involved in the students’ release, while the party and government share concerns of well-meaning Nigerians on the security incidents in the country.

“We reiterate our call to Nigerians for the continued support of ongoing efforts by the President Buhari government at a quick and permanent solution to the security challenges,” he said.

Unknown gunmen had abducted 39 students from the school on March 11 and had previously released 10 of them.

The newly released students arrived at the police headquarters in Kaduna on Wednesday night, looking weary.

According to reports, one female student was carried into the building because she could not walk, while another was rushed to a hospital.

Terror-minded Pantami named Nigeria’s most outstanding minister

Terror-minded Isa Pantami, Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, has been adjudged the most outstanding minister of the year.

Revealing this on its official Facebook page on Thursday, the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy disclosed that the award was conferred on the under-pressure minister by a media outlet, People and Power Magazine.

Explaining why the troubled minister with damning ties and sympathy to terrorist groups and murderous inclinations, the ministry said, “The accolade according to the magazine is in recognition of the laudable policies developed by the ministry under the supervision of the honourable minister such as the revolutionary NIN-SIM data linkage, the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy for a digital Nigeria, among others.”

The Islamic cleric recently endorsed the 5th Generation (5G) mobile network deployment, awaiting the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari and most recently extended the deadline for the NIN-SIM link to June 30, 2021.

Beloved by Mr Buhari, Mr Pantami plotted with some Muslim leaders to violently wipe away Christians from northern parts of Nigeria.

Mr Pantami chaired a July 13, 2010, meeting of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), a foremost Isla mic body led by Sultan of Sokoto Sa’ad Abubakar, where it was agreed that Christians should be prohibited from building churches in the city centre across the North and only build churches around designated corners away from the cities.

They also agreed that evangelism should be prohibited, and any attempt by Christians to resist the measures should be met with violence.

“They should know that we have more control of the masses and the youth,” Mr Pantami and other Muslim leaders said during the meeting held at Bauchi Central Mosque. “Any attempt by the Christians to disobey or revolt against the decision shall mean fighting against the religion of Allah which the followers of Allah shall not watch, but we shall violently wipe away the Christians in these states.”

The Muslim leaders also complained about Christians in Plateau and Kaduna and disclosed their plans to cause mayhem by enlisting Muslims in the security agencies as allies.

“The Muslim Ummah in Jos have solemnly resolved to fight the governor, his government and the entire Christians in any way possible. They shall never support this government, and they will destroy any development that shall come to Plateau, even the existing ones.

“Again, they are ready for Jihad in the state as we have presently secured the needed arms. Over 3,000 foreign arms have now entered Jos, and we will not vote during the governorship election,” the communique seen by Peoples Gazette said.

Mr Pantami and his colleagues also concluded that they “shall use our men who are in the military to help us bring arms and ammunition into Kaduna.”

Similarly, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro said the robbers had ran away before police arrived the scene.

He said the command had commenced investigation into the incident and the detectives from the command had been on the trail of the robbers.

Over 1,000 Gunmen Attack Niger Town, Kidnap Scores Of People

The attack comes just days after Niger State Governor, Abubakar Bello confirmed the activity of Boko Haram militants in the state.

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKMAY 06, 2021

Unknown gunmen have kidnapped over 100 people in Shadadi town in Niger state, killing 8 and leaving 4 injured.

A source who spoke with BBC Hausa said more than 1, 000 gunmen attacked the town on Wednesday and perpetrated the act.

The attack comes just days after Niger State Governor, Abubakar Bello confirmed the activity of Boko Haram militants in the state.

The worst place affected by the latest attack is Shadadi town under Mariga Local Government Area where eyewitnesses said thousands of residents have fled the town after the incident.

According to some residents, people who were killed and kidnapped from Wednesday's attack are up to 100 but the state government said those who were kidnapped are lesser than that.

An eyewitness from another town said the gunmen had arrived in large numbers and started shooting sporadically at the people, killing 8 people instantly while 4 persons sustained injuries.

The resident stated that most of the people in the town have now relocated to neighbouring towns including Kontagora.

The Niger State Commissioner For information, Sani Idris, who confirmed the incident to the BBC, said the number of those killed and kidnapped is not up to 100 as eyewitnesses claimed.

He further stated that the government is still compiling the figures and that the state government is seeking the federal government's assistance regarding the insecurity disturbing the state.

As of the time of filing this report, it is not clear if the attack was carried out by bandits or Boko Haram militants but both parties have yet to take responsibility for the attack.

The Niger State Governor recently said Boko Haram terrorists hoisted their flag in a part of the state.

The governor said the insurgents also forcibly took the wives of some of the villagers for themselves.

“I am confirming that there are Boko Haram elements here in Niger state, here in Kaure, I am confirming that they have hoisted their flags here.

“Their wives have been seized from them and forcefully attached to Boko Haram members. I just heard that they have placed their flags at Kaure, meaning they have taken over the territory.

“This is what I have been engaging the federal government on, unfortunately, it has now got to this level. If care is not taken, even Abuja is not safe.

“We have been saying this for too long. All our efforts have been in vain,” the governor said.

Bello said the terrorists were trying to turn Niger into another Borno State, which has been their base for some time.

“Sambisa is several kilometres from Abuja but Kaure is just 2 kilometres from Abuja. So, nobody is safe anymore, not even those in Abuja.

"This is the time to act. All hands must be on deck, it is not a fight for Niger state alone,” he said.

The governor however vowed to “take action”, saying he would no longer wait for anybody.

Catholic Church Suspends Father Mbaka Over Row With Buhari

Mbaka was asked to proceed on suspension with effect from May 3 after being summoned by Callistus Valentine Onaga, the diocesan bishop.

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKMAY 06, 2021

The Catholic Diocese of Enugu has suspended Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka from church activities for one month as the controversial priest's political escapades continue to overshadow his theological obligations on a scale that nurtures unending concerns amongst his senior clerics.

Mbaka was asked to proceed on suspension with effect from May 3 after being summoned by Callistus Valentine Onaga, the diocesan bishop.

Onaga called Mbaka in following his repeated clashes with President Muhammadu Buhari and warned that his conduct was smearing the church's image, the largest of any Christian organisation worldwide, church officials familiar with the matter told The Gazette.

SaharaReporters had reported last Wednesday Mbaka's criticism of the Muhammadu Buhari regime over its inaction on the widespread killings across the nation.

Speaking at the Adoration Ministry in Enugu, Mbaka said it is wrong for Buhari to maintain grave silence despite the incessant killings in the country.

He accused the government of being behind several killings across the country and tagging separatists groups as terrorists rather than focus on getting them good jobs.

The cleric also frowned on the activities of herders that destroy the farmland of people without any repercussion.

He said Buhari had failed Nigeria woefully and that he should resign now. Mbaka also called for the President's impeachment.

Following his suspension, Mbaka returned to his ministry that lies north of the outskirts of Enugu city centre, where he subsequently incited his members against the bishop, sources said.

Mbaka's followers claimed without evidence that he was kidnapped by Mr Onaga and handed over to the State Security Service. They subsequently marched on the premises of the bishop on Wednesday morning, looting and destroying assets therein.

The mob also descended on the Holy Ghost Cathedral, again looting and destroying items in the building. The members also went to town to allege that the SSS had arrested Mr Mbaka — generating widespread media reports despite lacking requisite corroboration.

A spokesman for the SSS denied taking Mr Mbaka into custody or coming in any contacts with him when reached by The Gazette, contrary to his followers' rumours.

A spokesman for the diocese did not immediately return a request seeking comments. Mbaka's line was switched off when dialled by The Gazette on Wednesday night.

Before falling out with Buhari recently, Mr Mbaka was an ardent supporter of the President. He endorsed his campaign in 2015 and claimed his blessings played a role in its success.

But as Buhari's regime failed to tackle acute poverty and insecurity, Mr Mbaka said he was compelled to speak up and distance himself from his regime, describing it as evil and satanic and calling on the President himself to vacate office.

Church sources said Mbaka's latest suspension was being viewed as significant for its undertone, but not the first time the fiery priest would face administrative action.

"We know people will link this to his confrontation with Buhari, but he was once demoted from a parish priest to a deputy under a parish priest," a church official told TheGazette. "He had also been transferred from bigger parishes to smaller ones for his frequent infractions in the past."

Still, church officials admitted Mbaka's Adoration Ministry has been a cash cow for the Enugu Diocese, even though it was built by Mr Mbaka and not directly under its control.

"The real problem is the Diocese has been financially dependent on Mbaka, collecting his millions," a source said, adding that some of the senior clerics themselves have also been in bed with politicians whom Mr Mbaka has long railed against.

White foreign Boko Haram fighters killed in gun battle with Nigerian troops

Nigerian troops on Monday apprehended and killed foreign nationals aiding the activities of Boko Haram in the West African region.

The troops ambushed the foreign Boko Haram insurgents after receiving intelligence reports of their presence in Sambisa Forest, a military source told Peoples Gazette.

The foreign terrorist fighters were killed in a shootout with Nigerian soldiers.

While the origin of the killed insurgents remains unclear, the development, however, coincided with longstanding claims that foreigners, especially individuals from the Middle East, are fighting alongside the jihadists around the war-torn Lake Chad region.

The activity of Boko Haram in the West African region has continued to adversely affect the socio-economic growth of countries in the region, with investors relocating from terror torn states.

In Nigeria, the jihadist group has continued to heighten the security problems of the northern region, claiming responsibility for series of abductions and killings.

In April, The Gazette reported how Boko Haram insurgents took over Shiroro, displacing over 3,000 people.

Apart from occupying Shiroro, the insurgents also imposed VAT and income taxes on residents.

Also, in April, about 65 communities in Niger reportedly signed a N20 million peace deal with Boko Haram terrorists to avoid attacks on their communities.

This followed President Muhammadu Buhari’s failure to guarantee the safety of lives and property in the state that had witnessed several violent attacks and kidnaps by Boko Haram.

Mr Buhari’s pledge to tackle the country’s security challenges has been severely questioned after he took sides with terror-linked communications minister Isa Pantami.

Mr Pantami faces an avalanche of criticisms amid calls for his resignation following The Gazette’s reports of his avowed support for terrorist groups like Taliban, Al-Qaeda, and Boko Haram.

However, Mr Buhari, who acknowledged that Mr Pantami supported terrorist organisations and incited the Muslim communities against Christians in the North through a declaration of jihad and fatwa, insisted that the “apology” of the minister was enough to heal the wounds and console the victims of his divisive past.
