Biafra To Hoist Flag In Bakassi Peninsula, Battle Nigeria, Cameroon To Retake Land–Group BNL said it does not recognise the ceding of Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon by Nigerian Government, adding that this is why its operational headquarters is in the region. BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKMAY 03, 2021 Agroup, the Biafra Nations League, has said it is battle ready to face both Cameroonian and Nigerian forces should they be attacked in the cause of hoisting the Biafran flags in the Bakassi Peninsula. BNL said it does not recognise the ceding of Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon by Nigerian Government, adding that this is why its operational headquarters is in the region. In a statement jointly signed by the Deputy National leader of BNL, Ebuta Akor Takon and Chief Head of Operations of BNL, Henry Edet, the group said its resolution in 2016, otherwise known as ‘Ekukunela Declarations’ made in the town of Ekukunela in Ikom, Cross River State, fails to recognise what it described as the Anglo-German Treaty which Cameroon relied upon at the International Court of Justice to claim the Peninsula. The group said the treaty was made by colonial masters and not with the natives, adding that it has decided to “destabilise the peace in the Gulf of Guinea unless Biafra is allowed to separate from Nigeria and Cameroon.” “Those clamouring for Igbo Presidency in the South-East as the reason behind the agitation for Biafra should desist from doing so. “The interest of other Biafrans, especially the Bakassi people cannot be solved by an Igbo man becoming President. “They should stop talking about Igbo Presidency, that’s not what we are fighting for. Biafra does not belong to the Igbo where they will tell us that they want to be President, it’s wrong. “God has made it in a way that the Igbo will always be in the forefront of the struggle as the majority tribe, but it will be disappointing if they accept the Presidency. “We are not just fighting for Igbo, but for all Biafrans including the Bakassi people under Cameroon bondage." REVEALED: Policemen In South-East Abandon Stations, Uniforms, Lobby For Redeployment Due To Insecurity SaharaReporters learnt that it is also increasingly difficult for the policemen to arrest suspects in neighbourhoods or keep their suspects in the cell, as is the custom before cases are charged to court. BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKMAY 03, 2021 Police officers deployed to the South-East states of Imo, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi and Enugu states are currently deserting their stations and now prefer to come in mufti the few times they are at work. SaharaReporters learnt that it is also increasingly difficult for the policemen to arrest suspects in neighbourhoods or keep their suspects in the cell, as is the custom before cases are charged to court. File photo used to illustrate story. It was gathered that most policemen, particularly those who are not Igbo indigenes, are desperately seeking redeployments amidst fear of the incessant attacks by “unknown gunmen.” SaharaReporters had on April 19 reported that most police officers in Abia wear mufti after heavily armed men attacked Uzuakoli Police Station in the Bende Local Government Area in a string of other attacks on other stations. “You can’t find many police stations opened except those in the centre of urban towns which are close to other government offices and establishments. Such is the situation we have among us. We cannot police the rural areas. Our men have fled. It is expected because the situation is worsening and the federal might seems to be weakening,” a source stated. According to Daily Trust, with the absence of police officers from stations came the disappearance of checkpoints in the South-East states. Moving from Garki, in Enugu South Local Government Area to Camp in Enugu North, and heading to the New Market through Trade Fair Complex areas in Trans-Ekulu to Nike Lake Hotel, in Enugu East Local Government Area – all within the state capital – there is no security checkpoint on any of the roads. This is unlike in the past when security checkpoints were mounted for stop-and-search exercises on motorists. The roads and streets of Enugu, the capital of Enugu State, are lacking uniformed police officers and the usual security checkpoints. This is not unconnected with the hike in violent attacks on security men and formations in the zone. It was also observed that police personnel no longer move about freely in their uniform. “The fear of attack from unknown armed men is the beginning of wisdom now,” said a female police officer. The same scenario was observed in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, as most checkpoints have been abandoned with no personnel to man them. A resident, who does not want to be named said, “I can confirm to you that there are no checkpoints in Aba again. The policemen have all deserted over the fear of possible killings by unknown gunmen. Policemen no longer patrol again.” Military checkpoints are also deserted, especially in the evening. Meanwhile, residents of Aba have decried the rapid increase in the number of youths currently getting involved in cult-related activities. Findings show that some popular areas are now controlled by cultists who reign supreme, with little or no confrontation from security operatives. Ogbor-Hill is controlled by a group called Supreme Vikings; Over-Rail by Aro-Baga; Osisioma by Aiye; Ndiegoro by Aro-Baga, while different cults control other areas. A police sergeant, who first expressed fear talking to our correspondent, said security operatives are no longer safe in the state. “Why are they killing and attacking us? We do this job with fear. We don’t know if we’ll return home alive after leaving the house in the morning. Most of the policemen killed have young children; who will take care of them?” he queried. “I don’t have the connection else; I would have moved my family out of here. I have to move my family out of Aba for fear of possible attacks,” he added. Meanwhile, at least seven policemen face an orderly room trial for deserting their duty posts in Imo State. There are strong indications that police officers attached to the Imo State Police Command are currently seeking to be redeployed out of the state following a series of attacks on security personnel by suspected members of Eastern Security Network, the paramilitary wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra. Some of the policemen are seeking help from both serving and retired senior police officers and their political godfathers. Investigations revealed that the officers seek to be deployed to investigating units such as the Special Fraud Unit (SFU), Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit, and special Squad. It was also learnt that the affected personnel are currently meeting with their contacts within and outside the state and are willing to pay for their prayers to be granted. While some senior officers believe that the officers should remain in the state to tackle the insecurity, others have already reached out to the police high command to facilitate the deployment. Some of the officers also based their request on the need to be reunited with members of their families. Sixteen Soldiers Killed, Six Injured By Attackers in Niger The attack on the military personnel was confirmed by two security sources on Sunday. BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKMAY 02, 2021 Unidentified gunmen have killed 16 soldiers and wounded six others in an ambush in southwest Niger Republic. In a report by Reuters, the attack on the military personnel was confirmed by two security sources on Sunday. BBC The attack on an army patrol occurred on Saturday afternoon in the Tahoua Region of the West African country, near where raids killed 137 civilians in March. It is unclear who carried out the attack, but the area is overrun by jihadist groups with links to al Qaeda and Islamic State. The groups have killed hundreds of soldiers and civilians since 2018 when they began broadening their reach beyond bases in Mali. Now, large areas of Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso have fallen under their control http://saharareporters.com/2021/05/02/sixteen-soldiers-killed-six-injured-attackers-niger

Herdsmen To Abduct Residents SaharaReporters learnt that the five suspects, who were busted in a hideout, were tied by the youths with ropes and handed over to the police in the area. BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKMAY 01, 2021 Angry youths in Omu Aran town in Kwara State on Friday intercepted and arrested five Yoruba men who were working with dare-devil herders to kidnap residents of the area for ransom. SaharaReporters learnt that the five suspects, who were busted in a hideout, were tied by the youths with ropes and handed over to the police in the area. According to a video of the incident recorded by a witness and obtained by SaharaReporters, an angry mob could be seen dragging the suspects into a police van as they expressed shock. The police van later whisked them away. An eyewitness said it was shocking for residents of the area to discover Yoruba informants among the gang of kidnappers-turned herdsmen. “They were caught on Friday. Their hideout was busted by youths assisted by men of the Amotekun. There are Yoruba among them – not all of them are herdsmen or Fulani. We have informants working with these criminals. They were lucky to have made it to the police,” he stated. SaharaReporters had on Friday reported that the soldiers also burst a hideout of kidnappers in Oke Ero area of Kwara State. SaharaReporters had learnt that the soldiers acting on intelligence stormed the forest in between Kwara and Ekiti states and arrested the Fulani kidnappers, recovering 100-dollar notes from them. A source in the area had noted that the kidnappers had been notorious for several kidnapping incidents in the area, adding that the criminals had “just collected ransoms from some of their victims.” Another source had stated that the suspects were believed to be among those who had abducted Oba David Oyewumi, the Obadu of Ilemeso Ekiti, who was in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State but rescued from a forest in Kwara State. http://saharareporters.com/2021/05/01/kwara-youths-arrest-five-yoruba-men-working-herdsmen-abduct-residents

Buhari to face impeachment over insecurity: Lawmaker “We have the power to impeach the president that he cannot do this; he can no longer secure lives and properties of Nigerians.” MAYOWA SAMUEL • APRIL 29, 2021 President Muhammadu Buhari Amember of the Federal House of Representatives has warned lawmakers would call for the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari if insecurity in Nigeria persists. Dachung Bagos, representing Jos South East, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, issued the warning on Thursday during an interview with Channels TV. Bagos was reacting to Wednesday’s House of Representatives’ inauguration of a 40-man committee that will hold a four-day security summit in May to address the nation’s worsening insecurity. The lawmaker warned that if resolutions arrived at the summit were not implemented, “we’ll call for the resignation of the president.” He added, “We have the power to impeach the president that he cannot do this; he can no longer secure lives and properties of Nigerians. “This is just like the last resort, and we are taking it very seriously. We can assure Nigerians that with the resolutions that will come out of this summit, if the executive did not take the summit very seriously, then definitely, the National Assembly with hit the gravel.” Expressing worry over the recent takeover of Shiroro by Boko Haram, he stated that “these people are capturing infrastructure,” as he wondered why the government could not be strategic in dealing with the insecurity in the country. The country is plagued by wanton violence, especially kidnapping and killings of schoolchildren, abducting and raping women, both young and old. Recently, the Chandler Good Government Index, released for the first time, placed Nigeria as the third-worst governed country in the world. The report noted that the ability to handle corruption properly is the strongest indicator of good governance. Thus the CGGI ranked Nigeria 102 out of 104 countries with a score of 0.319 points, ahead of Zimbabwe and Venezuela. The United States has often accused President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime of looting Nigeria with impunity. In its 2020 annual report on human rights, the U.S. said Mr Buhari’s regime failed to take action to stem widespread looting using existing laws that criminalise theft in public service. The country is also facing unprecedented terror attacks across its 36 states. https://www.gazettengr.com/buhari-to-face-impeachment-over-insecurity-lawmaker/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost

FG grants Dangote Cement second tax waiver in two years “When the opportunity was offered by his excellency Mr President through this EO 07, we jumped at the opportunity.” OYINDAMOLA OLUBAJO • APRIL 29, 2021 Dangote and Buhari The Federal Inland Revenue Service issued Dangote Cement Plc tax credit certificates, the second in two years. The tax credit certificates valued at N22.321 billion are for the construction of Apapa-Oworonshoki-Ojota road in Lagos and the Lokoja-Obajana-Kabba road connecting Kogi and Kwara States, The Nation reported. This implies that Dangote Cement will provide the funding for the federal roads to cover for the tax that it would have paid. The tax credit certificate for the Apapa-Oworoshoki-Ojota expressway is valued at N21.6 billion, while that of Lokoja-Obajana-Kabba is valued at N721 million. In 2019, FIRS issued a tax credit certificate valued at N9.5 billion to the company for the Lokoja-Obajana-Kabba road. FIRS’ Executive Chairman, Muhammad Nami, represented by the Coordinating Director, Tax Operations Group, FIRS, Femi Oluwaniyi, while presenting the certificates to Dangote Cement, said, “The government came to that reasoning that if we could encourage local investors to do the needful and of course under an agreement with some due monitoring and approvals then some of the monies they would have accrued back to government as taxes, they would have paid.” Receiving the certificates on behalf of Dangote Cement, Ahmed Mansur, the Group Executive Director, Government and Stakeholders Relations, stated, “It is true that the responsibility of providing public services and public facilities like roads and electricity and so on is that of the state. “But in today’s modern state, it is not possible to encompass every service that the public requires even if the states have the funds.” Mr Mansur further explained, “While it remains the responsibility of the state, the ability of private sectors to also contribute their quota in terms of capacity to execute becomes a huge advantage and it is because of it that when the opportunity was offered by his excellency Mr President through this EO 07, we jumped at the opportunity.” https://www.gazettengr.com/fg-grants-dangote-cement-second-tax-waiver-in-two-years/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost

Woman 'kills' man and his dog in a hit and run accident while fleeing from another hit and run Michael Farmer (left), 25, and his dog Bruce were killed in a hit-and-run accident allegedly committed by Dominique Houston. A woman has been arrested after allegedly running over and killing a man and his dog in a hit-and-run incident while fleeing at a high speed from another hit-and-run incident. The incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, April 25, shortly before 8 p.m. in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Police responded to the hit-and-run incident involving a pedestrian, named 25-year-old Michael Farmer of Sandy Springs and his dog, a Catahoula named Bruce. Police investigation found that Farmer was walking his dog on Hammond Drive near Glenridge Drive in Sandy Springs when a white sedan traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed struck the victim and fled the scene, according to a statement from Sandy Springs Police Department. Farmer and his dog both died in the accident as a result of the injuries suffered in the collision. However, during the course of the investigation, Sandy Springs Police Traffic Investigators found that the exact same vehicle had been involved in another hit-and-run incident with a vehicle only minutes before running over Farmer and his dog. “Sandy Springs Police Traffic Investigators learned that minutes prior to this deadly incident, the same hit-and-run vehicle had been involved in an additional hit-and-run crash with another vehicle while in the area of Roswell Road and I-285,” Sandy Springs Police Department said in a statement on social media. “The suspect was fleeing the first incident at a high-rate of speed when it struck the pedestrian and his dog; causing fatal injuries to both.” Sandy Springs Police Department identified the vehicle as a 2020 white Chevy Malibu with Florida tags and were also able to find the vehicle and the owner, 38-year-old Dominque Houston of Newnan, Georgia about 50 miles south of Sandy Springs before placing her under arrest. Houston was then taken into custody, interviewed by authorities, and subsequently charged with vehicular homicide in the first degree, reckless driving, two counts of hit and run, and one count of following too closely. She has now been booked into the Fulton County Jail and is awaiting prosecution. https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2021/4/woman-kills-man-and-his-dog-in-a-hit-and-run-accident-while-fleeing-from-another-hit-and-run.html

Insecurity: This is not time to impeach President Buhari - Senator Sani Musa says Senator Mohammed Sani Musa has said that impeaching President Buhari because of the deplorable state of security in the country will only throw the country into more crisis. Musa who represents Niger East in the Senate, said this during an interview with newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, April 27. According to him, this is not the time for a motion seeking the impeachment of President Buhari. When asked why he and his colleagues have not moved to remove the President from office following the alarming rate of insecurity in the country, Musa said; “You and I know what impeachment is all about. It’s another crisis into another crisis. Why do we need that now? What we need is solution. We need this country to come back to where we were in terms of peace. I will rather prefer a situation where all the operations of government is directed at security. Anything we are going to do in this country, should be towards tackling insecurity. We are not safe. No leader, from councillor to the president, that will sleep with two eyes closed. I do not subscribe to a situation whereby, because we have the legislative powers to impeach, that we are bringing a motion for impeachment. This is not the time for a motion on impeachment.” https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2021/4/insecurity-this-is-not-time-to-impeach-president-buhari-senator-sani-musa-says.html

Buhari regime blames Murtala Mohammed for acute insecurity Lai Mohammed said the Buhari administration is suffering the consequences of the botched compulsory free education programme by the mid-70s junta. AHMED OLUWASANJO • APRIL 28, 2021 The Buhari administration has blamed increasing insecurity in the country on the inability of late General Murtala Muhammed’s regime to carry on with its policy on compulsory free education for citizens born after 1970. Since Mr Buhari assumed office in 2015, insecurity has worsened through the corners of the country, eliciting widespread apathy and confusion. Terrorists, bandits, killer pastoralists, separatists and armed robbers have been on a rampage across the country, killing, maiming and extorting the masses. On Tuesday, a senator of Mr Buhari’s ruling APC Smart Adeyemi said the country’s national security architecture had collapsed and called on the president to immediately seek help from other countries to prevent a civil war. Murtala Mohammed, who overthrew Yakubu Gowon’s regime, was Nigeria’s military ruler from July 1975 until when he was assassinated on February 13, 1976. Featuring on a Channels TV programme on Monday, information minister Lai Mohammed says the nation’s current woes could be traced to the failings of the past military junta. “The fact is that in 1973, we were informed by the lead discussant and that the government of the day they had a retreat and said there must be a national pledge that what is that thing that we must do to ensure that we did not go through another civil war”, the minister said. “The government of that day came out with a decision that what will prevent another civil war is to ensure that anybody born after January 1970 has free and compulsory primary education.” Mr Mohammed added that the incumbent government is suffering the consequences of the failed compulsory free education for citizens. He said Mr Buhari’s government is confronted with issues associated with having over 13.2 million out-of-school children, who could be easily recruited for terrorism and banditry. “Regrettably that administration was overthrown two years later and all the lofty ideas and all the preparations that were needed to ensure that every child of school age acquired free and compulsory education were jettisoned. “And we are paying the price today because if you have 13.2 million children of school-age out of school that is the market which Boko Haram, bandits, IPOB and other militants, that is the market where they recruit people.” Mr Mohammed’s admission of 13.2 million out-of-school children further counters claims on how the Buhari-led government has succeeded in returning many of the out-of-school children to school. Before now, the minister had blamed insecurity on the former ruling party, Peoples Democratic Party, which ruled the country for 16 years, absolving the Buhari-led All Progressive Party Congress of responsibility. https://www.gazettengr.com/buhari-regime-blames-murtala-mohammed-for-acute-insecurity/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost
