Onitsha Head Bridge blocked as UGM kill military officers IPOB had ordered a sit-at-home order across the South-East but the directive was not effective in Awka, as people were seen going about their normal business. NEWS AGENCY OF NIGERIA • MAY 29, 2021 Security operatives blocked the movement of vehicles at Onitsha Head Bridge early Saturday, causing heavy gridlock which prevented vehicular movement in or out of the southern gateway. Though the reason for the closure was not communicated to the public, a source told NAN that the action followed the alleged killings of some military personnel at Ihiala area by gunmen in the wee hours of May 29. The blockage ruptured newspaper distribution across Anambra on Saturday as vehicles conveying copies from Lagos were held in the melee. Vendors in Akwa, the Anambra capital decried the development. Nneka Okoye, a vendor at Aroma junction, Awka said the situation totally dislodged them from business. “We are surprised to face this kind of problem this morning, as you can see, there is no Saturday paper on display here now. “The distributors told us that the vehicles carrying newspapers were stopped at Bridgehead, Onitsha because of issues the military had with people at Ihiala”, Ms Okoye said. Apart from vehicles carrying newspapers, others were equally blocked from moving in and out of Onitsha in the early hours of today. Security operatives have continued to face attacks from unidentified gunmen across the South-East and South-South region in the past weeks. Earlier in May, gunmen attacked a police station, killing two police officers and razing the building, Peoples Gazette reported. The attackers also besieged offices of electoral commission, INEC, and the police in Akwa, causing damages and leaving casualties in their trail. The situation is not much different in other southeastern states of Ebonyi, Imo and others. But a witness said that the military eventually opened the bridge for traffic at about 12 noon on Saturday. When contacted, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesman in Anambra, Toochukwu Ikenga, said the early morning gridlock at the head bridge was as a result of stringent checks by security operatives there. According to Mr Ikenga, the measure is meant to track bad elements. On the killing of military personnel at Ihiala, the spokesman said he could not speak on that as information at his disposal was sketchy, but however confirmed that there was a report of civil disorder in the area. IPOB had ordered a sit-at-home order across the South-East but the directive was not effective in Awka, as people were seen going about their normal business. https://gazettengr.com/onitsha-head-bridge-blocked-as-ugm-kill-military-officers/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost

The coalition in a report obtained by SaharaReporters on Wednesday stated that under the excuse of searching for IPOB and its militant arm, Eastern Security Network, the security agencies – notably the army and the police – have arrested hundreds of young men and taken them away from these communities and their relatives do not know their whereabouts. The coalition also mentioned Iriebe and Obigbo communities as well as Port Harcourt and Borokiri in Rivers State and communities in Akwa Ibom and Cross River states. “Nearly 40 per cent of Americans do not have accounts. So, it is not very compulsory for everybody in Nigeria to have a bank account.” NEWS AGENCY OF NIGERIA • MAY 26, 2021 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says it is not compulsory for Nigerians to have bank accounts amid the rising spate of bank frauds and insider crimes in the banking sector. The EFCC also kicked against the idea of opening bank accounts with “mere phone numbers,” arguing that nearly 40 per cent of Americans do not have accounts. “Nearly 40 per cent of Americans do not have accounts. So, it is not very compulsory for everybody in Nigeria to have a bank account,” said Bawa Usman, zonal head of the EFCC in Sokoto. According to him, insiders facilitate most financial frauds in the banking industry. Mr Usman, whose zone covers Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara, stated this on Tuesday in Sokoto at a roundtable with compliance officers of commercial banks. The EFCC convened the meeting to strengthen the relationship and collaborations between the EFCC and the banks in tackling frauds. Mr Usman further said the banks often frustrated the EFCC’s investigations as they delayed replying to its letters. “Such delays jeopardise our investigation. Financial institutions must collaborate with us toward curtailing money laundering, illegal financing, and other illicit flows of money. “The meeting is a response to the directive of the EFCC leadership. It is one of numerous strategies toward fighting all manners of corruption. “The commission strives to ensure that fraudsters do not get away with proceeds of crimes undetected. To achieve this, we are appealing to all banks to facilitate a better working relationship with the anti-graft agency,” he explained. He urged bankers to improve ways of tracking illicit finances and transactions, stressing that point of service operators or money agents needed to be well-informed on financial regulations. Mr Usman told the banks to ensure that eligible customers obtain Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML) numbers, stressing the need to review their data registers to ensure compliance. https://gazettengr.com/nigerians-dont-need-bank-accounts-efcc/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost

Bandits, policemen killed in Zamfara shootout The bandits killed two police officers in the Saturday shootout. NEWS AGENCY OF NIGERIA • MAY 24, 2021 The police command in Zamfara said its operatives killed some bandits in the state on Saturday night as the criminals attempted to attack Magami in Gusau local government area. The bandits killed two police officers in the Saturday shootout. The command disclosed this on Sunday in a statement signed by its spokesman, Shehu Mohammed, in Gusau. “Yesterday night, the command received a report that bandits in their large numbers stormed Magami town in Gusau LGA with intent to attack the community. “The Commissioner of Police, CP Hussaini Rabiu, directed Police Tactical units, comprising of PMF/CTU/Special forces and Operation Puff Adder based in the area to synergise and ensure the protection of lives and property of the people. “The tactical units moved in courageously and engaged the assailants in a gun duel. The statement further said, “The CP reiterates his warning to all recalcitrant bandits in the state to either surrender their arms and embrace peace or face the consequences of their actions. “The CP also urged police operatives in the command to aggressively defend themselves and the community in any engagement with bandits and ensure that they dominate the ungoverned spaces on a continuous basis.” https://gazettengr.com/bandits-policemen-killed-in-zamfara-shootout/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost

Borno Lawmaker Sacks Legislative Aide Who Described Boko Haram's Shekau As 'Courageous', ‘True Hero’ Tanda had taken to his Facebook page on Thursday to describe the nefarious terrorist leader as a “true hero” for blowing up himself. BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKMAY 23, 2021 AMember of the House of Representatives from Borno State, Abdulkadir Rahis, has sacked Bukar Tanda, one of his aides, for describing the leader of the Boko Haram terrorist group, Abubakar Shekau as a “true hero”. Shekau's was reported dead on Wednesday. He was said to have killed himself to avoid being captured by members of the Islamic State Of West African Province fighters. Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau Tanda had taken to his Facebook page on Thursday to describe the nefarious terrorist leader as a “true hero” for blowing up himself. In the now-deleted Facebook post, Tanda praised the dreaded terrorist. “I admire and appreciate his courage to terminate his life. He lived a life of a hero and died a true hero. He did it in such a way that not even traces of his corpse will be found,” Tanda wrote. But in a letter personally signed by Rahis on Friday, the lawmaker terminated the appointment of the aide. “I wish to formally write and notify you of the termination of your appointment as my legislative aide, forthwith. “Your actions, utterances and opinion of recent are at variance with my interest, that of my constituency and our great party, the APC (All Progressives Congress). “The letter also serves as a disclaimer to any action or position you took or wish to take, on any matter that may have the remotest connection with me as a person or my office.” The sacked aide further took to Facebook on Sunday to welcome the decision of his former boss, while also distancing himself from terrorist activities. Tanda, who was quizzed by security agents over his statement, wrote, “I have learnt a life lesson and have now had a clear idea of the companies to relate with. “To Honourable Abdulkadir Rahis, I cannot find the right words to express my appreciation for the opportunity to serve as your aide and more importantly for the spirit of brotherhood you shared with me although our memorable years of togetherness. Your decision to terminate my appointment is well accepted and in good faith and I found nothing wrong with your decision. I wish you all the best in your endeavours,” he stated. Multiple military sources had earlier confirmed to SaharaReporters that Shekau blew himself up with an explosive when it was clear that the ISWAP fighters wanted him to relinquish power to them, after all his commanders were captured and killed in the forest. The incident took place following the invasion of the terror group’s stronghold in the Sambisa forest area by ISWAP deadlier fighters. ISWAP, which had broken away from the Shekau-led Boko Haram faction in 2016 after pledging allegiance to the Islamic State, reportedly raided the group’s hideout using no fewer than 50 gun trucks. According to HumAngle, Shekau’s enclave was tracked down by ISWAP using its forces based in the Timbuktu Triangle. His fighters were killed in the process, followed by a long gunfire exchange between the invading group and Shekau’s bodyguards. Shekau had been the leader of Boko Haram since 2009 following the death of the group’s founder, Mohammed Yusuf. He had been rumoured to have been killed by the Nigerian military at least four times between July 2009 and August 2016. In August 2016, the Nigerian Air Force had claimed he had been “fatally wounded” by military bombardments, but the terror group released a video only a month later showing he was alive. http://saharareporters.com/2021/05/23/borno-lawmaker-sacks-legislative-aide-who-described-boko-harams-shekau-courageous-%E2%80%98true

The girl is under 23 probably 19,20 or 21. @OP it's not like she doesn't love you but she's in her hoe-phase,the mistake you did was marrying her this early. My advice to you is to let her be and take it like a man. It'll be hard but she'll still need you later. The hurtful part is that the person that has her attention now is no match to you and probably her agemate, you're even better than the person 100% but ur woman is young for what you want her to be. Her family is poor that's why they pushed her to marriage this early. Just let her be bro. Give her the 3months she wants but in that 3months don't near her or even communicate with her infact don't send her money or anything. Her brain will comeback to factory settings. |

Governor Abiodun’s moneybag Bidemi Rufai presents Yahoo girl as surety: FBI Nekpen Soyemi’s ownership of a property in the U.S. could also not be verified, and two bank accounts traced to her had barely a fraction of the $300,000 bond. HILLARY ESSIEN • MAY 22, 2021 Abidemi Rufai and Dapo Abiodun Abidemi Rufai, charged in over N312 billion unemployment fraud in the United States, will not be released on bail after the FBI uncovered vagrant irregularities in the surety he presented before the court, court documents seen by Peoples Gazette said. Mr Rufai was granted bail with a $300,000 bond that will be provided by Nekpen Soyemi, a nurse identified to be his friend. But while the bail papers were being prepared to speed up Mr Rufai’s release, the FBI conducted a background check on Ms Soyemi and discovered that she was once suspected of a business email compromise scam by the Bank of America. The FBI also said Ms Soyemi was once involved in a $134,000 fraud linked to a non-profit. It was not immediately clear whether Ms Soyemi was charged. Detectives also said Ms Soyemi’s ownership of a property in the U.S. could not be verified, and two bank accounts traced to her only had $335 and $1,838, respectively, as their balances. The combined balance was far from the $300,000 bond imposed on the suspect. Consequently, prosecutors advised the judge to rescind Mr Rufai’s bail and instead remand him in custody indefinitely, fearing that he was a flight risk. The judge will hear the bail arguments again on May 25, a court official told The Gazette. “The defendant presents an extreme risk of non-appearance that cannot be addressed,” prosecutors said. “We respectfully request that the Court order him detained pending his transfer to this district, at which point his status may be reconsidered.” A lawyer for the suspect did not immediately return a request seeking comments from The Gazette on Saturday evening. Mr Rufai, Governor Dapo Abiodun’s long-time aide and business associate, was arrested last week in New York as he prepared to depart for Nigeria, U.S. authorities said. His brother was initially listed as a potential surety following his appearance in court. But Alaba Rufai said he could not raise the required $300,000 bond, alongside other criteria. As part of terms for Mr Rufai’s release, he agreed to electronic home monitoring and travel restrictions. But the conditions might be reexamined during next Tuesday’s hearing. https://gazettengr.com/governor-abioduns-moneybag-bidemi-rufai-presents-yahoo-girl-as-surety-fbi/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost
