While this thread has turned to a religious one, I have stepped out to download some of the books mentioned that I haven't read.
Let's not attach religious sentiments to every discussion on Nairaland please.
The op (if he actually compiled the list) is entitled to his opinion.
You can write yours if you feel a more influential book was omitted.

I do agree that the story doesn’t add up but we have a long way to go in Nigeria. I work for an Organization in Cape Town South Africa, the priority given to health and safety in all the sectors here is insane. We had a fire drill last Friday, health inspection today as well. All these just to ensure the safety of the staffs and visitors in our premise. Mind you these is done periodically in all organizations in SA. My point is, in Nigeria we don’t care, we don’t value human lives, which begins with safety. I’m tired of seeing such news ...petty situations that can be averted but we just don’t give a hoot
Cut our organizations some slacks please. Where I was working in Abuja (a school) before joining the government agency does all the things you listed periodically. May God protect us against akoba adaba.

We had just moved to our new house in 1997 when my youngest brother was born. About 7 or 8 of these were removed from the baby's back after days of discomfort and ceaseless tears. Doctor guessed it was from the compound. The baby (now a young man) still has the scars. Nothing diabolical.

abdeiz:
I believe increasing the minimum wage wont make our problems fly away like a magician's pigeon, what would stop a common market woman from increasing the prices of her wares? what would stop the economy from experiencing inflation if the Government decides to print more money to pay the wages?

Instead we should find a way to increase the purchasing power of our currency meaning one unit of money should buy more things not less. Our dependency on Oil aint helping our forex. Recently i heard that the naira gained cos of politician releasing an influx of election dollars, what a country.

Go to Singapore where the salaries of the minister's salaries are tied to the economy, the economy grows they get a raise, it shrinks they get salary cuts. we dont have the collective political will to be selfless and do the right thing in this country.
Kudos to you. I wish they would listen to wisdom

For those who are waiting to go for NYSC and just in need of a teaching job that doesn't pay much, I suggest you apply to any government secondary school around you as a PTA staff.

It's most likely you would be grafted in if they are lacking teachers in your field of specialisation.

Truly, I know people who started this way and are full staff of FCTA now though the starting salary is not grand.

From my experience, working in a standard school within Abuja is not bad for fresh graduates. I decided to create this page to encourage those who enjoy teaching like I do.
So, please post any teaching vacancy within Abuja here.
It might help somebody.

BusinessWhy Should You Be An Entrepreneur? by Sidmond(op): 8:03am On Sep 14, 2018
*Think OutsideTheBox*

Your boss pays you N30,000 per month.
Now let's assume that you decided to save all without touching a dime, it would take you 36 months to make N1million.

(Did I hear you say 3years?)

Absolutely!

On the other hand, if you can convince an organisation like Dangote Group to print and supply 5000 umbrellas to them (to be used as souvenirs) and you make just N200 profit per umbrella, in just one day you must have made N1million.

What about becoming a billionaire, that is where it gets crazy!

Now let's increase your pay to N1,000,000 per month and you decide to save all without touching a dime. In a year, you must have saved N12million. It would take about 84years before you can make N1billion. (Please subtract your current age).

On the other hand, Nigeria has a population of about 200 million people, If you can supply salt to just 12million people once in a month and you make just N200 from each person supplied, in one year, you must have made N2.9billion.

This shows that to become rich, you have to stop talking to bosses and start talking to clients.

*HARD ANALYSIS:*

Divide your SALARY by 30 days and see what you get (i.e. the number of days in a month and see the funny thing about your salary plan).

For example,
(1) An average level-12 worker in the state government civil service earns NGN 60,000.
**** And this translates to NGN 60,000÷30= NGN 2,000 every day. This is LESS THAN the amount made daily by an AVERAGE HAWKER in the city.

(2) A freshly EMPLOYED GRADUATE BANKER in most NIGERIAN BANKS earns an average of NGN120,000 monthly.
***So everyday, you get NGN120,000÷30= NGN4,000 as the daily value for your work-life. By implication, this is LESS THAN the amount earned DAILY by an AVERAGE DRIVER in d city and in some villages.....

(3) If you are a FRESH GRADUATE EMPLOYEE in some oil companies, you earn an average of NGN300,000 monthly. So in a day your WORK-VALUE is NGN300,000 ÷ 30= NGN10,000
**** This is LESS THAN the daily amount earned by an IRRIGATION FARMER supplying vegetables to Lagos MARKETS, a TIPPER CAR DRIVER supplying sand for three BLOCK INDUSTRIES and CONSTRUCTION SITES just 3 times a day and DRIVERS of DANGOTE TRUCKS who have bought off the trucks at scrap value and vare using them to convey products between villages and the cities for just five business owners.

--------->>>HOPE BY NOW, IT IS SINKING IN, RIGHT?

And when there is an ISSUE in the FAMILY that requires FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, the DRIVERS, HAWKERS and the rest are looking up to you with a WHITE COLLAR JOB.

(4) If you are an NYSC MEMBER, you DON'T need to be told that:
*****NGN19,800÷30 = NGN 660 is your worth on a daily basis.
I hope you know that PURE WATER SELLERS who own a shop, a pepper soup joint and a small TOYOTA COROLLA car to distribute pure water to five restaurants earn MORE THAN you and WHEEL-BARROW PUSHERS working on contract for three warehouses probably make MORE MONEY than you EACH DAY

............
Wake up and be more productive. We should be more proactive, create room for more income and strive to diversify our streams of income.

The earlier you wake up and smell the coffee, the better for you......

Someone right now will say this analysis is too ideal to be true but take your time and do it, you will grasp the crux!!!

STOP waiting for the Government to feed you, feed yourself and help the Government feed others. That is where we are in this age....

I wish you an Entrepreneurial mindset......

It seems dicey but i might stay with the school that offered accommodation if I were in your shoes except I have cash to get a better place right now.
Congratulations!!
Nwanna2588:
Please choose for me. It is urgent. I recently secured a teaching job in one of the highbrow areas of Lagos. The job is with accommodation and resumption is on 13th. Now another that is a N120 fare away from my place of residence has called and the deal is almost sealed. The later is paying N20K higher than the prior.
The problem now is that I have packed to the prior as the owner wants me to come and be acclimatised with the environment. Already I have written lesson notes up to the sixth week.
I am also faced with accommodation problem because I stay in a slovenly environment that is prone to flooding. I have been looking for a way to pack out because of the aforementioned problem.
Folks, I am ambivalent of which trajectory to follow. The two are at the highbrow area of Lagos. What is your advice here?
