There's very, very few people that won't do better for themselves by migrating from Nigeria to the USA, even as an illegal immigrant. This I know from loooong experience and observation. I've explained all this in detail in previous comments. Anyone living in Nigeria who earns ₦500K per month thinks they're on top of the world and why won't they when only 0.4% of Nigerians earn ₦200K per month and 97.7% of banks accounts have less than ₦500K.

If ₦500K is such a big deal, then for most people, moving to any Anglo-Western country is a very good move....₦500K is less than $600, just think about it. Even 30 years ago working illegally as a restaurant cook, I was sending THOUSANDS of dollars to Nigeria several times a year and yes I worked multiple jobs and had a roommate. Today a restaurant cook starts at $11/hr in my corner of North Carolina. That's at least $1200 per month after tax. It's a start, with time most people move on to better jobs but as I've repeatedly explained, I know people who've worked these low skill jobs for over 25 years and they own homes, multiple cars, eat well and put their children through university. I've literally seen it happen for several families from beginning to present day...from marriage up till today in this USA. Nigeria can't provide such a lifestyle for unskilled workers.

As for skilled workers, well doctors max salary in Nigeria can never be more than ₦1million/month. Move that same doctor to the USA and the LOWEST TAKE HOME PAY for a brand new doctor, after tax, is over $7,000 per month and I'm being very conservative. I'm intimately familiar with the oil & gas industry, the salary of engineers basically TRIPLES when they move from Nigeria to here. Even 10% of their earnings can be saved and translates to an amount that VERY FEW people can earn in Nigeria.

As for your comment on house ownership, well in Nigeria the government can take your house for ANY REASON, even if you pay every levy and tax and anything else because the land belongs to them. Not only that, ANYONE with enough money can induce the police or other government officials to start contesting your ownership of landed property in Nigeria. I've seen this and I know you've seen it too,

But it's OK, in any case Nigerians are voting with their feet. If the UK offered free entry to all Nigerians, half the population would flee and you know it. There's good reason for that. The 400% rise in the price of a bag of rice since 2014 is enough.

God bless you for this timely piece, let them stay back, I could remember how I was so much in love with Nigeria believing that things will change to the extent of discouraging my friends not to travel out, till it was done on me that I was the one wasting my time,as am typing this 2 of them have houses in Nigeria here and doing way better looking younger then I do, I had to make up my mind and I do likewise today am way better off then when I was in Nigeria.

If you earn in dollars and also earn good on your regular bank job. You doing better than 60% of Nigerians. And you get to enjoy the slippage different of dollar over naira exchange — as at today naira to a dollar is 820 in the black market.

Just invest wisely here and you would be good. Even if you do bad in investment, your constant dollar earning would afford you the opportunity to try out other opportunities.

On the flip side, when you eventually japa and begin to earn say 3000 dollars monthly, there are taxes to be paid and other expenses and in the process, you will be slow to build wealth, it will take you years compared to when you in Nigeria enjoying the Naira dollar slippage difference.

If you single, finding a wife there would be difficult except you japa-ing with your wife.

Oga stay back and secure your future here, save in dollars, invest with naira and stay ahead of the market here.

I was like this very guy some years back, I used to discourage my friends not to travel that Nigeria would be great, as at today most of them are way better then me. Till it done on me I had to do the same after wasting my time in Nigeria, so my friend thinks twice cos one little thing in that country can make you lose all you have worked for.

Can there be any meaningful development without the seriousness of the Government? For any business to grow the owner will have to show some level of seriousness, asking them to stay and development this country is a waste of time, for me they should find a way to japa after all they would start small anywhere they go instead of wasting their time in Nigeria.
