PoliticsRe: John Campbell: Nigeria’s Presidential Election Bad News For Democracy by SillyMods: 6:38am On Mar 20, 2019
[s]
newsbook:
Former United States (U.S.) Ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell, has described Nigeria’s 2019 presidential election as bad news for democracy, adding that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is unlikely to win his suit in court.

This is contrary to reports by some international bodies that the election was free and fair. Campbell, in his election post-mortem for the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington DC obtained yesterday, said the election was marred by historically low turnout and credible allegations of rigging.

He noted that the election was a step-back from that of 2015, adding that actions should be taken to identify what had gone wrong and what could be corrected.

buhari lost aso rock pooling unit.

his cooks, guards, laundry staff and relatives voted against him. If not for the north were he hails from the defeat would have been too bad.

he lost the South woefully even with the heavy rigging and burning of inec materials and ballot papers . now he knows the South doesn't love him at all
PMB won one of the two polling units in Aso Rock. Get your facts before spewing lies.

And he actually performed far better in SS and SE this time than his previous showings there. Check Cross River, Rivers, Delta and even Bayelsa and look at yourself in the mirror.

PMB scored 25% or more in 9 states of the 11 states in SE/SS. Only in Anambra, Enugh and Abia he didn't achieve that threshold. In the past, he couldn't even get 10% in the two regions.

PoliticsEmpirical Evidence That Atiku Defeated Buhari In The Last Election by SillyMods(op): 2:17pm On Mar 18, 2019
I have listened and read arguments supporting both sides of the divide in the last general election.

I have taken my time to examine the available facts of the matter to arrive at a conclusion and here are my findings to support the argument that Atiku indeed "won" the last general election.

First, let's look at those top politicians whom Atiku relied upon to win the elections:

Saraki,Gbenga Daniel, Olusegun Obasanjo (OBJ), Kwankwaso, Buba Galadima, Dino Melaye, Jinmi Agbaje, Secondus, FFK and a few others.

Now let's see how each of these big guns (including Atiku himself) "delivered" their polling unit, ward, local government or even state for Atiku.

1. Atiku - himself as the presidential candidate could only deliver 167 votes against PMB's 187 votes in his own polling unit. Though he won Adamawa scoring "massive" 52% of the votes to PMB's 48% (412,266 votes to 377,488 votes) - just about 35k votes difference.

2. Saraki - The DG of Atiku presidential bid won his polling unit for Atiku but lost his local government and state to Buhari.

3. Gbenga Daniel - wins polling unit, lost local govt and state

4. OBJ - Lost polling unit, ward, local government and state to Buhari

5. Kwakwanso - Won polling unit but lost local government and state

6. Buba Galadima - Lost polling unit, ward and local govt plus state to Buhari

7. Jinmi Agbaje - Lost polling unit, local govt and state to Buhari

With all the above facts, how can anyone still be in doubt that Atiku "won the last election"?

Abeg, make una leave frustrated children of hate and anger alone in their foolishness ooo.

Educate yourself and you'll realize that the proper thing is being done now. The process has improved with declaring some of the elections inconclusive where the win margin is less than canceled votes.

No where in any part of the Quran or Hadith does it say Adhan must be proclaimed loudly over loudspeakers. But there are verses where the rights of others are extolled as fundamental parts of Taqwa.

In a monocultural society sure, you can blare away. But in a multicultural environment where you can impede the rights of others, you can perform your rites in ways that are acceptable to Islam without infringement.

This is similar to how muslims block public roads during friday and Eid prayers as some sort of divine or cosmic rights.

No.

You cannot block public passageways and deny others their rights. All prayers must be conducted in properly designated mosques.

We are not human if we do not accept our mistakes when practicing our religion.
And Kaduna, with more population of Muslims than that of Christians, should not be able to call to prayer over the loudspeaker because it is multicultural environment in your own estimation? And it is ok for Christians to blare away in places they're only about 20% of the population?

You try!

El rufai likes to believe he's some enfant terrible in Nigeria. His choosing a muslim as his deputy was just grandstanding and a hollow statement.

With or without a muslim deputy he's bound to win, so what was the point of inflaming passions for a mere political rhetoric that has no intrinsic value?

kaduna needs tact and wisdom, not a circus clown who feels he's duty-bound to make political statements to appease one side and deflate another.

One upon a time Kaduna was the political center of Nigeria, rich in political capital. Then the game of sentiments came on and reduced us to a Plateau or Taraba. That sheen and aura is long gone....and the atmosphere is one heavily pregnant with uncertainty and tension.

We'll all breathe a sigh of relief when he finally leaves.
I can't blame El Rufai for choosing a muslim deputy for the fact that it was undiluted hatred he was repaid with even with a Christian deputy.

I mean, there is a limit to what anyone can stomach in any given circumstance. He has dared the consequences of choosing a Muslim mate and he has triumphed.

The high time the CAN in Kaduna, and indeed in Nigeria, retrace their divisive steps.

Only a biased commentator will argue against the fact that the Christian leaders in Nigeria fan the embers of divisiveness through their numerous hate preachings.

To be honest with you, I dont like government dabbling in religion...

.....but....

...I'd wish we can tone it down a bit. We're the loudest people when it comes to religion. I dont like us blaring everything on loudspeakers, other people deserve their peace.

If you want to be preached at, meet with the preacher in your temple and do it within the ambiance. Every muslim should know when it's time for prayers if you do it 5 times a day, why do I need some loudspeaker blaring at 5am when I can set my own personal alarm?

Why must we shout our beliefs all over rooftops and take over the airwaves?
You are completely wrong about this your position on Call to Prayer by Muslims.

Calling to prayer (Adhan) loud over the loudspeakers has become almost mandatory in Islam where there is no imminent threat in doing so. A call to prayer doesn't last for more than 3 minutes at most. This is 15 minutes a day and why this should be a source of worry to anyone is beyond common sense. Can call to prayer by muslims be likened to the endless preaching over the loudspeaker, day and night, by Christians?

What we witnessed in Oyo state is political sophistication that deserves special attention.

The outcome is not necessarily because people want Seyi Makinde but because they wanted to punish Ajimobi for his lousy and disrespectful utterances. In many other climes, they would still have voted Bayo Adelabu to separate Ajimobi's sins from him.
