The South African Acting High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador Bobby Moroe, has said that his country remained committed to strengthening bilateral ties with Nigeria.

Moroe told the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Abuja that the relationship between Nigeria and South Africa would remain strong and on course.

The envoy said President Muhammadu Buhari and his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa, were expected to meet in October to discuss modalities to address attacks on Nigerians living in that country.

Meanwhile, in a statement by Khusela Diko, spokesperson to the President, the South African Government said President Buhari’s state visit would reinforce the bond between both countries.

Diko stated that the visit, next month, would further strengthen their bond and jointly develop responses to challenges affecting people and businesses in South Africa and Nigeria.

According to him, President Cyril Ramaphosa held discussions, on September 6, with Nigeria’s Special Envoy, Amb. Ahmed Abubakar, on violence in South Africa and developments in Nigeria around South African businesses.

“The visit to Pretoria by the Special Envoy followed a recent meeting between Presidents Ramaphosa and Buhari in Yokohama, Japan, on sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development.

“In their discussion, the Special Envoy conveyed President Buhari’s concern at recent events in South Africa, in the context of the strong and cordial relations that characterise the interaction between the two countries.

“President Buhari conveyed his commitment to the values of prosperity and the advancement of Africa that are shared by South Africa and Nigeria.

“Nigeria stands ready to assist South Africa in establishing the root causes of and developing sustainable solutions to the challenges concerned.

“President Buhari has undertaken that where challenges emerge in Nigeria, the Nigerian government will act against lawlessness and the targeting of South African assets in Nigeria,” Diko stated.

According to him, President Ramaphosa also reaffirms South Africa-Nigeria relations to be firm.

Diko added that both partners remained resolute in a shared commitment to building Africa that is at peace with itself and others.

The Lagos state police command has declared a 39-year old married woman, Mrs. Happiness Nwokocha wanted over allegations of sexually molesting a 14 year old boy for two years, who allegedly molested a 14-year old boy by engaging him in sex for two years as she has fled to avoid prosecution.

The News-Gazette Online gathered that Mrs Nwokocha fled early Thursday morning with members of her family after she realized she was about to be arrested because of the sexual abuse.

Mrs Happiness, who is married to Mr Kingsley Nwokocha, hails from Umuahia in Abia State and they are blessed with children including a set of twins, she lived with her husband before the incident happened.

It was gathered that Mrs Happiness was asked to report at the Gender Section of the Lagos Police Command for investigation over the alleged abuse of the victim.

However, she did not report, instead, she reportedly packed her belongings, locked their apartment and ran away to an unknown place with her children and husband.

According to their neighbours, they woke up in the morning only to realize that the woman had packed her properties, which were outside and moved out without informing any of her neighbours. They suspected that she might have relocated elsewhere because her children were supposed to resume for school on Monday.

This is happening following the directives by AIG Shehu Lawal of Zone 2 Onikan to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zubairu Muazu, to carry out a full investigation and take appropriate actions over the alleged abuse of the victim, who was said to be undergoing mental trauma because of the abuse.

Mrs. Happiness Nwokocha was reportedly caught hanging sex with the 14 years old boy and her nude picture taken at her friend’s place in Lagos.

Our reporters gathered that the incident happened at No. 18 Adesola Street in Agodo Egbe area of Lagos, where the victim resides with her parents, while the woman, Happiness, popularly known as ‘Mama Ejima, resides at No. 26 of the same street in the area.

Both Mrs. Happiness and the boy’s parents attend Mountain of Fire & Miracles Church and that gave the suspect, Happiness, unfettered access to enter deep into the family and started molesting the boy despite the fact that she lives with her husband and has her own children.

According to the 14-year victim, Happiness reportedly lured him into his mother’s shop in the early hours of the day and stripped him naked after she had packed some beverages. While still in the act, the boy’s mother came through the back door of the superstore located inside their compound and caught them with the items she had packed inside a bag, which she had intended to take away after the sex romp.

The matter was reported to the Police at Area M Command, Idimu, Lagos and Happiness were invited.

However, the whole matter changed after the IPO, one Sergeant Mike, turned everything against the complainant, Mr Frank Alamezie, who is the father of the victim.

Mr Alamezie was detained for taking the nude picture of the suspect, Happiness, as she was caught in the act.

The husband of Mrs. Happiness and Sergeant Mike including other Police officers linked with the matter were said to be demanding about N10m from the victim’s father before he cried out after the Police had reportedly extorted him.

Matters how ever took a different turn when he AIG gave instructions for the arrest of Mrs. Happiness.

Catholic Bishop of Awka diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, has called on the federal government and politicians across Nigeria to expect a revolution from Nigerian populace soon.

According to the Bishop, politicians should expect revolution, more beatings and manhandling from citizens if nothing is done to address the hardship in the country.

Recall that the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, recently attacked a former Deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, in Nuremberg, Germany for his alleged silence during the 2017 ‘Operation Python Dance’ which led to the death of some members of the pro-Biafra group.

Speaking on Tuesday during his maiden pastoral visit at the St. James Catholic Church, Neni, in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, Ezeokafor said, “Politicians must either sit up or be ready to face the wrath of hungry and angry Nigerians.

“Nigerians are hungry and angry. You cannot beat a child and stop him from crying. People have the right to protest, provided they are not armed.

“It is done all over the world. Once something is not going on well, you reserve the right to speak up. People have the right to voice out their grievances,” Ezeokafor said.

Noting that Nigerians all over the country are dying daily due to the effects of bad leadership, the cleric said the political class must do all it takes to douse tension among citizens.

“They have right to express displeasure over certain matters. I think what the political class should do to douse the tension is to face governance and lawmaking squarely and work for the common good of the masses. ‘I see more and more greedy politicians being manhandled,”

“Nigerians are dying on daily basis because of bad governance. No good roads, no healthcare, no electricity, cost of living is so high. Yet, these people are busy siphoning our common patrimony,” he added.

Controversy hits invasion of Umahi’s Abuja home

Political thugs on Monday allegedly broke into the Abuja home of Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi.

However, the alleged invasion has sparked controversy as some of the governor’s close associates believe those who broke into the house were police.

The hoodlums, who allegedly invaded the house at about 6.30am, allegedly wanted to plant arms and ammunition in the house to implicate Umahi.

The alleged invasion, our correspondent learnt, might not be unconnected to the recent position of the South-East Governors’ Forum headed by Umahi on Fulani herdsmen.

A source, who spoke to The PUNCH on condition of anonymity, said, “Thugs, suspected to be police were dispatched to Governor Umahi’s house in Abuja on September 2 at 6.30am to search and likely drop guns and money to silence the voice of the Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum and Ndigbo.

“The occupants of the house and police on duty were harassed and some were asked to lie on the floor and they did, while the operation lasted.”

Force Police Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, said he was out of Abuja and could not confirm the incident as of the time of filing this report.

The House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Reformatory Institution and member Representing Ezza South and Ikwo Federal Constituency in Ebonyi State, Lazarus Ogbee, condemned the alleged invasion of Umahi’s home.

In a statement by his media office in Abakaliki, the lawmaker said the attack was aimed at implicating the governor, calling on the Inspector-General of Police, Mohamed Adamu, to investigate the incident.

The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, on Sunday disclaimed as fake a Facebook account set up in his name alongside his photograph, and warned members of the public against being deceived by dupes and scammers.

Fashola said his verified Facebook account remains @BABATUNDEFASHOLA.

He noted that with several reported and deleted accounts in the past, the latest addition to the fake accounts set up in the former Lagos State Governor’s name along with his picture was “FasholaRajiFashola.”

The minister said the scammers wrote that the Federal Government was giving out the sum of N700,000 to youths and young adults to enable them pay school fees, set up businesses and invest in businesses, among others.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Communications, Hakeem Bello, the minister described as unfortunate the fact that despite repeated warnings and disclaimers, certain unscrupulous elements still engage in the act of defrauding unsuspecting members of the public through different social media platforms falsely linked to him.

The call, he said, coming perhaps for the umpteenth time, had become necessary in view of the increasing activities of the scammers.

He advised members of the public to always clarify with the appropriate agencies of government at all levels before engaging in any dealings with people purportedly working for them.

The statement urged people to report such situations to law enforcement agencies so that those involved could be brought to justice.

The Nigerian army has confirmed that its troops have dealt a devastating blow to Boko Haram terrorists along Monguno-Mairari-Gajiram axis but also lost three soldiers in the assault.

The encounter happened between the terrorists and troops of Sector 3, Operation LAFIYA DOLE attached to Super Camp Monguno on Friday 30th August 2019. The Nigerian troops were on patrol when they came under the terrorist's fire.

According to Colonel Sagir Musa, the acting director of army public relations, the troops returned “heavy volume of fire that neutralised countless number while a few escaped with gun shot wounds going by blood trails in the general area.”

He also said the Nigerian troops also recovered some weapons and equipment from the terrorists. “Sadly, during the encounter three of our gallant soldiers paid the supreme price while 8 other soldiers sustained injuries. The bodies of the fallen heroes and those that sustained injuries have since been evacuated. The wounded are being treated and are in stable condition. The highly motivated troops have continued combing the general area with a view to clear remnants of hiding terrorists”.

The Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General TY Buratai, along with some Principal Staff Officers from the Army Headquarters, Theatre Commander Operation LAFIYA DOLE and other Commanders, visited the troops and those wounded in action, Sagir Musa said.

Consumer Awareness and Financial Enlightenment Initiative has urged the Central Bank of Nigeria to extend deadline for the exchange of mutilated naira notes by another four months.

CAFEi president, ‘Debola Osibogun, said in Lagos on Sunday that extension of the deadline would enable more people to key into the initiative.

“It is imperative for the CBN to extend the deadline to give room for more people to key into the opportunity to exchange their mutilated notes, especially during the Yuletide period,” Osibogun said.

She explained that it would enable Deposit Money Banks to deploy further human resources into the sorting exercise, which they claimed was quite laborious.

Osibogun noted that the exchange policy started on a slow note because of inadequate publicity.

Noting that the policy is gradually gaining traction, she said, “we are seeing more and more people going to the bank to exchange their old mutilated notes.”

Osibogun said the CBN should give more time for the policy to have impact.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the apex bank on August 31 said the general public should continue to return mutilated bank notes to their banks after the September 2 deadline.

The Director, CBN Corporate Communications, Mr. Isaac Okoroafor, disclosed this in a telephone interview with NAN.

“The general public should continue to return mutilated bank notes to their banks after the deadline.

“The September 2, 2019, deadline does not apply to bank customers or the general public who will continue to return mutilated notes to the banks.

“It only applies to the banks because free sorting of Naira notes for them will cease at the expiration of that deadline,” Okoroafor said.

He noted that September 2 was only the deadline after which the CBN would begin to charge banks.

Okoroafor said,”We opened a window from June to September, so that when they bring the notes without sorting, we can sort it for them free.

“But as from September 2 , if they get those notes, they need to sort them before they bring them to us.

“The deposit by customers and acceptance by commercial banks of mutilated notes is a normal and continuous banking practice and as such, continues even after September 2.”

Recall that the CBN opened a three-month window from June 3 to September 2 for customers across the country to replace old notes with new ones in all the banks.

The apex bank said this was part of its efforts to improve the overall quality of the naira notes in circulation.

The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has vowed to institute legal action against HE Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers State over allegations which recently made the rounds that his government demolished Rainbow Town Central Mosque located at Trans-Amadi area of Port Harcourt.

The reports which circulated on the 26th of August alleged that the demolition occurred on the 20th of August.

In a statement by Abba Anwar, his chief press secretary, the Kano State Governor described the “sad story of Mosque demolition in Rivers state as shocking and promised that necessary lawful action must be taken over the happening.”

In the statement, Ganduje said he would carry out “legal action against this demolition of the Mosque as well contest it with appropriate authorities for redress.”

Ganduje was quoted as saying by Anwar: “We received this information with high degree of shock. And I am assuring the general public that, all necessary action against this demolition will be taken through appropriate authorities.”

He then called on members of the public to remain calm and peaceful, saying they should go about their normal businesses.
Ganduje said: “As government, we have started touching appropriate quarters against the demolition.

“Kano State is known for peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians, we should, therefore, improve on that and remain calm and peaceful. People should live peacefully with one another.”

The Rivers State Governor had denied the reports of demolition after he took journalists on a tour of the location on the 26th of August.

He attributed the false report to mischief makers who were on a mission to create disaffection.

A tanker explosion which occurred at Dilko Junction in Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State by 10pm on Friday August 30, left one dead and 10 others injured.

19 vehicles were also destroyed in the incident while the injured victims were rushed to Umar Musa Hospital in Sabon Wuse.

It was also learnt that firefighters from the State Fire Service who turned up at the scene of the incident with their colleagues in the Federal Fire Service were only able to bring the fire under control around 4:30 am on Saturday morning.

Three students of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos have been arrested and arraigned before an Ikeja magistrate court for gang-raping a 15-year-old girl who was on her period on Saturday, June 29, 2019.

The teenager was visiting the school when she was dragged into the Students Union Government treasurer’s office by one Ayo Segun who is still on the run. It was learnt that the FCET's SUG treasurer, Mudi Phillip was present when the girl was raped in his office by Oluwabanwo Kolawole and Chibuzo Ezegbue who he was arrested with.

“Segun, Kolawole and Ezegbue took me inside Philip’s office at the SUG building and said they would protect me and use me as their queen if I agreed to have sex with them. Philip was there pressing his phone when I started arguing with them, but when Segun realised that I was shouting, he ordered the rest of the guys out and told me that he would kill me if I refused to have sex with him. I told him I was menstruating, but he never cared and he forcefully had sex with me.

“I thought it was over, but the others came in one after the other to have sex with me. When I tried to stop them, they threatened me. Ezegbue had sex with me but when it was Kolawole’s turn, he saw blood around my private parts and knew I was tired, so he told me to give him MouthAction, which I did. When it was Philip’s turn, I pleaded with him and he said he wasn’t there to have sex with me, but said that I should lie to the others that he had sex with me if they asked" the girl said while recalling how the sad incident occurred.

The Lagos State Police spokesperson, Bala Elkana told newsmen that Phillip was released by the court while the two other suspects were remanded in Ikoyi prison.

“We have arrested the suspects involved in the case of the 15-year-old girl, who was defiled by four boys at the FCE (T), Akoka. Two of the suspects, Ezegbue Chibuzo and Oluwabanwo Kolawole, have been charged and are currently remanded in prison custody" he said.
