You aren't a "phone expert" uncle OP, you are self acclaimed and again; I use an iPhone 5s right now so let me let you down with that before u think I'm trynna defend my status quo or beef up advertising strength for Tecno.


If u are a phone expert as u call yourself you'd know that with phone updates "firmware" and "OS" are two different things. The OTA updates other phone makers provide for their customers are firmware updates NOT OS updates, especially with phones running on the Android JellyBean OS and Below and this has NOTHING to do with Tecnos inability to run BBM as u clearly stated in ur argument. Tecno clearly stated that they will begin to provide OTA updates for phones that carry the new Android KitKat OS and you didn't cover this with ur argument.
I used a Phantom A+ before I changed it and I loved it. I was also mad for not recieving updates like my friends who were using other phone brands but after sometime I got to realize that those were not OS updates.
NO PHONE BRAND EVER PROVIDED OTA OS UPDATES FOR ANY PHONE RUNNING ON THE JELLYBEAN OS AND THOSE BELOW IT!!!
And from what I see in ur post all the tecno phones u recommended to ur customers sef na low end phones wey people dey use manage make e be like say dem dey use smart phone, I didn't see u recommend Phantom Z. The R that was the best u recommended still runs on JellyBean na, abi? And NO phone company provides OTA OS updates for that OS.
So please, point ur argument in the right direction and know that the inability of a device to run a particular software has NOTHING to do with its firmware but it's OS.

Thanks a lot bro for clearing a sentimental mind. I use the tecno h6 at the moment and it has the OS update feature in it cos it's running on android kit kat 4.4.2. The phone is awesome and for 17k I feel it's a good bargain.

I dont know if you are based in Lagos or not, but in case you are in Lagos, you can carry out the phytosanitary test at National Quarantine Service Office, close to MMA 2 Airport Ikeja. From Ikeja Underbridge (Close to Lasuth) ask where you can get bus to NAHCO, after boarding the bus, alight at STRABAG BUS STOP, cross to the other side of the road and ask for directions to the office. You can call MR IDACHABA (08037103205), he is the officer responsible for issuing the certificate in that office. I believe even if you are not in Lagos, he may be able to direct you to where else you may get it close to your base. Goodluck.

had a data balance of 1743MB as at ten o clock today
and right now I checked my data balance only to see 1243
MB. left. This is appalling. I subscribed the hopeless bbs

If You prefer to buy a phone with 1GB internal memory, No software support(official/cracked) then Go for Tecno f7.
But if you want a more powerful phone, with 12GB internal memory, software support from manufacturer and crackers, Go for Gionee E3.
Note both phones are at thesame Price.

I usr Droid vpn to tunnel the network and it's fast. just that as a free user you are limited to 100mb per day.

mcgboye: People go on and on about OTA and OS updates not being available for Tecno users. But are there significant improvement for every new OS releases? I think not. I have a friend who uses one old tecno (i think their first smartphone) and with his Android 2.3.something, he still accesses the google play last time we talked. Someone here uses a D5 with Android 4.0 and of cos he is still able to access the 700,000+ apps on google play. I don't think how OTA should be a deal breaker, unless your usage requires you to migrate to the very latest OS. This isn't the case in most case.

And in any case, you're not going to use your smartphone for more than 2 years. I know people who cannot buy the S3 when there's S4, even though in my opinion the differences aren't so significant to justify the 40k extra you'll pay it. 4 of my colleagues use the S4, two use the S3. Apart from the fact that, to the untrained eyes at least, there's not much noticeable differences, only one of those people using S4 uses the air gesture and the other paparazzi.

I think, like it's been said here severally, unless you really have to spend 100k on a device, there's absolutely nothing wrong (and there's everything sensible) in buying a phone that addresses you requirements 100%.

To keep comparing phones with such huge price differentials doesn't really make so much sense IMO.

Samsung galaxy s4 has 5 different versions with different chips, core, gpu, lte, and so on... What about Sony? Or HTC? All of them are the same. Samsung in particular launches new phone every month, the only advantage they have is OTA, which I'm very sure tecno will come up with soon. You can't expect them to launch only one phone a year in a market where there is fierce competition. Buy phone that suits your needs, enjoy it. Don't buy phone because people are buying it, look for what you like and go for it.
