EducationRe: Dentistry And Dental Surgery As A Career In Nigeria by simba1: 8:50am On Jul 13, 2015
Na so, I love this
pyramidsclinic:
I have seen many Nigerian students that crave to be doctors, many ladies want to marry doctors, parents want their children to be called doctors, little wonder why many pastors, artisans, musicians, teachers have adopted this title as honourary. The question is who then is a doctor?

In Nigeria a doctor is a title given to any of the following:

1)Person who has obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree PhD
2)Person who is a graduate of medicine
3)Person who is a graduate of dentistry
4)Person who is a graduate of veterinary medicine
5)Person who has obtained a doctorate degree such as LLD, OD, Pharm.D, Doctor of Psychology etc

However, only graduates of medicine and dentistry carry the traditional sense of the word ‘doctor’ as health care providers.

Let me summarize what dentistry is all about first before going into details;

Dentists are doctors that treat diseases of the oral cavity, its structures and related structures. They are trained in a university for a period of six years; four or five (depending on the school) of these years will be spent together with the students of medicine. After which newly inducted dentists undergo one year of compulsory internship and another year of NYSC, then register with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) before they can practice. They are automatically members of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and Nigerian Dental Association (NDA) upon graduation. They can specialize in a number of specialties with a residency programme similar to that of graduates of medicine under the supervision of Faculty of Dental Surgery of National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria or that of West African College of Surgeons and become fellows (consultants) in their chosen fields and automatically become members of Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN). As a dentist you are entitled to whatever your counterparts that studied medicine are entitled to and you are paid with the same salary scale except for specialists that get special allowances depending on the field and other part time jobs that anyone may decide to take.

As a dental student you begin to feel special right from school because you belong to the Faculty of Dentistry/Dental sciences.

If you are about to take JAMB/pre-degree/Direct entry form this may be what you need just sit down and relax as I take you round the world of dentistry.

Comments, observations and questions are allowed, thanks.

Exactly.
I was also part of it
twas horrible
60k for new hostel, whereas they were old hostels. They didnt want us to checkout the old hostel. It was compulsory that it be for the new hostel, and worse even, the new hostel wasn't much.
Its just very little land-spaced.
Geeeez!
Can't imagine paying that kind money for one lousy course.
Mehn! My dudes that payed, some didn't get any hostel, it was all filled.
.
I pity them, they were squatting, getting squandled, getting duped, raped, abused etc.
.
That man eh, he needs to be arrested!
HooksnLines:
My sister got admitted into micheal okpara university last year, we paid her clearance fee then we got the shock of our lives

She was asked to pay 60k naira, for hostel, if not she cannot continue the clearance, they claimed the hostel is compulsory and at 60k it was just expensive, my father complained and complained, another rude shock was the fact that after the payment of the "Clearance Fee" you would be given 21 days to pay the hostel fee, if at the end of that 21 days your 60k payment has not been made, Portal or whatever would close and you would be have to make another payment of 10k to re-open It.

Newly admitted students were gutted by this news, many could not meet the deadline, so they had to pay the 10k, it was terrible believe me(ask any fresher)

The new hostel has block A,B,C,D,[E,F- PG hostel] ,G,H,I,J only and these hostels hold about 65 rooms(four persons in a room).
The hostels got filled up, and the school kept collecting money from students, they never mentioned it.

First semester started and a lot of students were homeless, they slept in lecture halls, squatted like birds from house to house, exposed to all sorts of conditions(especially females), some came all the way from aba everyday to attend lectures

The school turned a blind eye till students revolted and the V.C called for a meeting with them, where he boldly said "if you want your 60k come to my office with your reg nos." He went on to say they are not even grateful he gave them admission.

From that day till now my sister has not seen her 60k or gotten the hostel accommodation she paid for.
EducationRe: How And Why I Graduated From The University. by simba1: 1:56am On Jul 10, 2015
Hmmmmmmm!
misreal:
This is a true story. It all started when I stumbled across a lecturer of mine who is a prof, outside my department.he saw me and recognised,I was his student so he asked me to help him make photocopy of a certain material, which cost ten naira.meanwhile,he gave me a twenty naira note. After doing what he asked me to do,the problem was now that I could not bring myself to returning his ten naira change.I attempted returning both the material and his change, but I only succeeded in returning his material because he was with other senior lecturers.I didn't just want to embarrass him by giving him ten naira.i
I waited for many days to catch him alone in his office, but couldn't. I was lucky on a certain Thursday when I went to his office and met him doing nothing so I asked for his forgiveness before attempting to give him his change,I played the forgiveness part because I don't want to hurt his ego.his response was quite normal of him oh.he first of all abused me and said he doesn't do small money, that if I want to talk money, I should be sure to talk about big money..
Months later, after pasting final year GPA,I discovered a mistake on my result.this mistake was in a course he took me.he used the fact that I was honest with his ten naira change to correct my result by my words because I had no prove that I passed his course.I remember that we were always asked to write our S/no,our names and score after seeing our results,in case they is a mistake,it can be corrected.but I didn't..this is my story...learn to be honest at all times my friends............,
This kind story eh?
Abeg important infos missing.....

Course?

These would help us understand and learn from your story better.

For the fact you folks are aspiring Delsu, doesn't make that a prerequisite for you to exaggerate.
Delsu, I say it again, is a State-owned, and from my findings so far, Lasu is the best state-owned Uni in Nigeria, it could try to measure with some federal Colleges.
Delsu is a great school, fine, but don't compare it with Schools in Yoruba lands, it seems you all are ignorant of where education emanated fromhuh??

Romance10 Types Of Women You Must Avoid, If You Want A Lasting Marriage by simba1(op): 3:31pm On Jul 09, 2015
While we can all agree that nobody is perfect, there are actually a few things that would adversely affect a relationship if a man chooses to partner with a woman with some not-so-great attribute.
1. The Bitter Woman: You know that woman that always seems to be angry at the menfolk all the time? Perhaps she has had her heart broken one too many times, but this woman is always bashing on men and talking about how they are no-good or useless. A man might not want to settle down with someone so bitter as it is guaranteed that when the opportunity arises, she would hurl hurtful insults and intense, hateful words his way due to all her unresolved anger.
2. The Selfish Woman: If you want a happy home and a partner that wants your happiness as well as hers, then you should steer clear of the selfish woman. A woman who is determined to make sure she always comes first would not be able to build a cheerful and loving home with you.
3. The Materialistic Woman: A woman obsessed with material things would certainly not make the best wife. If all she cares about are material possession over family, faith and spiritual fulfillment, then she will not make the best partner.
4. The Flirty Woman: Are you attracted to that woman that always seems to flirt with one person or another? She flirts like a butterfly from one man to another and makes all men feel like she is interested in them. Well, beware, because a habit like that might be hard to break after marriage and you would not want to start hearing that your wife has had flirty conversations with all the men in the neighbourhood.
5. The Party Freak: She is invited to every party and attends them all. She is always dressed in the most flashy clothes and is the ultimate party girl. She lives for the next big gathering and cannot say no to an invitation. Such woman might not be the type to settle down in a marriage.
6. The Spoilt-Brat: A woman who grew up having everything handed to her and has never had the experience of actually working for something is unlikely to make the best wife. No matter how much you might be willing to provide her with the kind of lifestyle she grew up with, remember, marriage comes with kids and kids require sacrifice. If she has never had to work or make sacrifices for anything in her life, it is unlikely that she would start now.
7. The Attention Seeker: While some women naturally like attention, when it becomes an obsession, then it is not a good idea. A good husband makes sure he has time for his wife, but this cannot happen 100percent of the time so a good wife should understand that.
8. The Gossip: Does she always seem to never mind her own business? Is she always focused on what someone else is doing or how someone else is living their life? Then you do not need this kind of woman as a wife. A man needs someone that would build a home with him and this requires some focus on her own plans and her own life. If she is too busy minding someone else’s business, then you are fighting a losing battle.
9. The Commitment-Phobe: A woman who finds it difficult to commit to anything (school, jobs, family, friendship, etc) would also not be able to commit to a marriage. If she seems to lose interest in everything quickly and is always looking for the next thing to jump into, then you would have a hard time keeping her focused in her marriage.
10. The Disrespectful Woman: If she seems to always be disrespectful and rude (even if it is to people she considers beneath her standards) then you need to think twice about marrying her. Respect for a fellow human being is a very important attribute in who we choose to spend the rest of our lives with so it is definitely not something that should be taken lightly.
