Kogi State Governor, His Excellency Yahaya Bello received the APC presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his running mate Senator Kashim Shettima, Governors of Niger, Jigawa states and other dignitaries in Kogi state.
The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, has been committed to prison for disobeying court order.
The court also directed the Inspector-General of Police to effect Bawa’s arrest and remand him in Kuje prison for the next 14 days until he purges himself of the contempt.
Recall that an Abuja High Court sitting in Maitama, had on November 8, ordered the arrest and remanding of the EFCC boss at Kuje prison over contempt.
Justice R.O. Ayoola of the Kogi State High Court, in his judgement on Monday, granted the application for committal to prison of the EFCC chairman for disobeying a court ruling delivered on November 30, 2022, wherein the EFCC chairman was directed to produce the applicant in the case, Ali Bello.
Ali Bello had dragged Bawa to court for arresting and detaining him illegally, with the court ruling in his favour, but the EFCC arraigned him for alleged money laundering three days after the ruling.
The EFCC’s applications for setting aside and stay of execution of the ruling were refused for want of merit.
The Court had, in Form 49, Order IX, Rule 13, marked: “HCL/697M/2022” and titled: “Notice to Show Cause Why Order of Committal Should not be Made,” asked the EFCC Chairman to appear before it on January 18, 2022, to explain why he should not be jailed for flouting the order given on December 12, 2022, in a case filed by Ali Bello against EFCC and Bawa, as the 1st and 2nd respondents, respectively.
The court ordered that the EFCC and Bawa be served the motion of notice together with Form 49 by substituted means.
The court had declared the arrest and detention of the applicant in the face of a subsisting Court order made by a Court of competent jurisdiction and without a warrant of arrest “or being informed of the offence for which he was arrested” as unlawful, unconstitutional, and in contravention of the personal liberty and dignity of human person guaranteed under Chapter IV of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

The court had also ordered the respondents to tender an apology to the applicant in a national newspaper and awarded N10 million compensation for him.
The Form 49, issued on December 15, 2022, and addressed to Bawa read, “Take notice that the Applicant will on the 18th day of January 2023 at the hour of 9 o clock in the forenoon or so soon thereafter, apply to this Court for an order for your committal to prison for having disobeyed the order of this Court made on 12th day of December 2022 that:
“That arrest and detention of the Applicant on the 29th November 2022 by the 1st and 2nd Respondents in the face of a subsisting Court Order made by a Court of competent jurisdiction and without a warrant of arrest or being informed of the offence for which he was arrested is unlawful, unconstitutional and contravenes the Applicant’s right to personal liberty and dignity of human person guaranteed under Chapter IV of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and Articles 5 and 6 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
“Perpetual injunction restraining the Respondents, their agents, servants, privies, or however called from further arrest, detention, harassment and intimidation of the Applicant.
“An order directing the Respondents to tender an apology to the Applicant in any of the National Daily having nationwide coverage for the illegal detention and harassment of the Applicant.
An Award of the sum of Ten Million Naira as general damages jointly and severally against the Respondents for the unlawful detention and harassment of the Applicant.”
This followed an application by Counsel to Ali Bello, S. A. Abass.

Oluboh: Road to 2023: We’ve perfected Yahaya Bello’s master plan, youths say as they storm Calabar
By Chinelo Obogo, Lagos Many youths converged on Calabar, the Cross River State capital, to advocate for support for Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello’s presidential ambition, reiterating that they are ready to work to ensure he emerges president in 2023. Drawn from all over the country, especially South East and South-South states, they said, though they have been able to mobilise over 20 million youths with Permanent Voter’s Cards, for the actualisation of a Bello presidency in 2023, they would not stop educating more youths in a bid to rescue Nigeria from its current challenges.
The Coordinator, Rescue Nigeria Mission Project in the South South, John Akainza, who led others to prevail on Governor Bello to formally declare his intention, promised him the unconditional support of Nigerian youths. ‘We have been going from house to house, school to school, without you prompting us and we are going to shock money politicians and show the world that we can install our own in Nigeria. It will be the first time in the history of Nigeria that we will change the narrative,’ Akainza declared. ‘It is amazing how many people wants Governor Bello to be there. People have seen how different he is from the pack. If Kogi State could turn around within such a short period, in many ramifications including security, what else are we asking for? ‘I am glad to tell you that as of today, this is the only Governor that has been able to say it as it is even in the face of pressure. Everyone must strive to join in making history in our great country,’ Akainza said.
The South West Coordinator of RENMISS, Bolanle Ninolowo, corroborated his colleague, saying: ‘On Yahaya Bello we stand. If there is any other youth singing another tune, we don’t understand that and they are not part of us. This is the only candidate Nigerian youths have. He has demonstrated that our tomorrow is here in Kogi. We don’t want to be perpetual leaders of tomorrow but leaders of today.
Voting him assures sound judgement across all sectors of the economy because his administration will be populated by fresh, intelligent, smart minds. Kogi is working today because of that. That is the only state where before the end of the year, their audited financial account is out, among other first feats.’ The Chief of Staff to the Governor of Kogi State, Abdulkareem Jamiu Asuku, who was invited as keynote speaker, commended the youths for taking it upon themselves to create a Nigeria of their dreams. He thanked them for identifying the good works of his principal in Kogi, noting that he would not disappoint them.
With the many challenges he met on the ground in the state, he has proved that it takes capacity and the required will to effect true change. That is exactly what he will do when he becomes President. Thank you all for identifying this and many more. I will take your message to the governor,’ Asuku said.
Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, on Thursday, described the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, as the “shield” of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
While stressing the invaluable contribution of the Kogi State Governor to the growth of the ruling party, Lawan said it was in order to say “Yahaya Bello is the ‘Sarkin Yaki’ of APC in Nigeria.
Lawan said this during the formal commissioning of Senator Yakubu Oseni’s constituency projects across Kogi Central.
Oluboh: Youths across the six states of the South-West, on Saturday, converged on Lagos to ask Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State to contest the 2023 presidential election.
The youths, who expressed confidence in Bello, vowed to rewrite what they described as “Nigeria’s political history” of “recycling old, tired politicians”.
They also promised to chase away money bags.
The youths disclosed this during the launch of Rescue Nigeria Mission (RENMIS), in the South West.
The group canvassing support for Yahaya Bello presidency had been earlier launched in several Northern states, as the youths said they were ready to mobilise for the Kogi State Governor, no matter what happens within his party, the All Progressives Congress.
The coordinator of the youths in the South-West, Shola Saheed, said, “We are excited today that all our youths are keying in. As we speak today, over 20 million youths (PVC holders), at home and abroad, are already actively involved in the struggle to install our own, Governor Yahaya Bello, as President. Others are already trooping in.
“We are set to rewrite political history of Nigeria. We will not listen to ‘Baba sope’, we will collect their billions if they bring it, but we assure you, we will put Yahaya Bello there with our numbers. Don’t ask me how we will do it. Just watch and see how we would rescue this nation resolutely and peacefully.
“This is the time for us the youths to change the status quo. If we don’t get it now, we might not get it again. I am calling on Nigerians to rise up and support a man that has the capacity to rule Nigeria.”
The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Abdulkareem Jamiu Asuku, who was invited to witness the South-West declaration, thanked the youths for their support for his principal and promised that he would not let them down on the call on him to contest.
He said, “Governor Yahaya Bello is the face of the youth in the Nigerian governance system today. Kogi State is the centre of Nigeria, being the only state bordering 10 states, including the FCT. Governor Yahaya Bello came on board as governor and governed Kogi State without a porous border
“The economy and IGR of Kogi State tripled within the short period. Such a man who has been able to transform the economy of Kogi State, unite the people and fix security issues in record time is the man Nigeria needs.“The South-West youths of Nigeria are here in Lagos to call for a replication of what is happening in Kogi State in the larger Nigeria.”
He said Nigerian youths must be ready to end recycled presidency, saying there is need for a change of status quo.
Pharm. Asuku: That Rallying Point for Nigerian Youths
By Best Agbese
I had always regarded the role of the youths in nation-building in Nigeria. This much has been reflected in most of my public engagements. However, I was recently confronted with this position when I was a guest at the Kogi State Government House in Lokoja.
Aside from the ambience that was receptive, I noticed a steady flow of processes from the Governor's office to other concerns in the governance circle in the state. The usual government bureaucracy was relegated to the background. It looked like a private organization where time management was at its peak.
I was impressed that I made moves to enquire about the brain behind the seamless flow of activities. This is aside from the array of young people that I came in contact with, holding strategic positions in government.
From the Chief of Staff to commissioners, advisers, and other aides of the Governor, it was a beehive of activities. However, I was particularly struck by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pharmacist Jamiu Asuku. He created an indelible impression in me on the role of the youth in governance in the country.
An exceptionally brilliant chap, whose work ethic has kept the engine of Kogi State government house running most impressively, he exhibited a firm grasp of governance issues that justified his appointment as the Chief of Staff by the Governor in the first place.
This is why I hold the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, in high regard due to his style of governance that has brought out the innate potentials of the youths in Kogi state. Aside from the Chief of Staff, who has been the forbearer of the seamless administrative machinery of governance in the state, other notable young folks are daily redefining leadership in the state. This is noteworthy of the Governor, who has been relentless in ensuring that the youths are better prepared and equipped to take over the reign of affairs in the country.
I must add that I have been hearing of the exploits of Pharm Jamiu Asuku long before the encounter in government house Lokoja. He has carried on in such a manner that indeed placed youths in most parts of the country in a prime position to actualize their dreams in contributing their quota to nation-building.
His intelligence is exceptional in the sense that you could notice his penchant for thinking outside the box. For example, it is on record that in his position as Chief of Staff, access to the Governor is not cumbersome as he treats all official matters with decorum and a high level of professionalism, which has been a critical component of governance in the country.
He indeed reminds me of the invaluable role of the youths in socio-economic development in the country. I am tempted to add that what the Governor of Kogi state has done regarding maximizing the potentials of youths in the state should be a template that should be emulated across the board in the country.
The implication is that inputs from the youths in the country would be radically felt across the board by implementing fresh ideas in solving the myriad of challenges confronting the country. Pharm Jamiu Asuku has sufficiently exhibited this much as the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Kogi State.
I am equally tempted to add that should Pharm Jamiu Asuku find himself in a higher position of authority either in the state or at the federal level; we should expect to see sheer brilliance and dexterous strategies towards advancing the cause of the common good. This I can vouch for, in all honesty.
Another aspect of Pharm Jamiu Asuku that I need to bring out is his honesty and sincerity of heart and purpose. This much has been confirmed by most of those whose paths have crossed his, including my humble self. I was more than elated that I was forced to ask him what motivates him. His response was simple; leadership should be seen as an opportunity to serve in the overarching objective of achieving the common goal of a society where solutions must be readily available to solve challenges.
I could not agree less with him because Nigeria is due for the paradigm shift from emphasizing challenges to solving them through a combination of capacity to identify the challenge as a first and the knowledge put resources and skills to work and the wisdom to be guided by the bigger picture in all our endeavours. If we must admit, the above can’t be achieved without honesty and sincerity of heart and purpose.
I had several takeaways from my encounter with the young man, which I would readily recommend as lessons in leadership that should be imbibed by young folks in governance, including those aspiring to get involved in governance. The Pharm Jamiu Asuku example is apt. It somewhat gives us the hope that the upcoming youths indeed have what it takes to bring about meaningful development.
I will, at this point, encourage Pharm Jamiu Asuku to see his present position as that stepping stone into the centre stage of leadership in the country, but on the condition that he remains focused. He must also continue to improve his understanding of the complexities inherent in the leadership circle in Nigeria.
I do not doubt that he is a fast learner who has learned quite a lot under Governor Yahaya Bello, who has demonstrated capacity and the political will to redefine leadership in the country. Finally, he must continue to serve as that rallying point for Nigerian youths.

_For the other States, the Governors should emulate GYB, they should move to save the future of Nigerian students_
It is no longer news that the Federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have been at loggerhead for some weeks and the ASUU committee declared a warning strike of four weeks.
This is so sad considering how these activities lingers the academic sojourn of students across the nation, save from those in private institutions only.
All State and Federal Universities in the country are caught in the web of this strike action. Sadly, where two elephants fight, it’s the grass that bears the brunt; our students are in for unwilling academic disruption again despite that the two parties are aware of the rate of ritual killings at the moment. It’s not a good time for this kind of break in academic calendar.
However, despite the hullabaloo at every corner, Kogi State is very calm and it is as a result of the action of our distinguished and eagle-eyed leader whose foresight we couldn’t comprehend until it began to yield. Recall that years back, the Governor out of sheer sympathy proscribed the activities of ASUU across the State‘s institutions because of the students whose academic journey was delayed unecessarily for political and selfish reasons.
It is no hype when we label Governor Yahaya Bello as a leader with foresight. He made it happen and for the past five years and even as we speak now, students of all Kogi State owned institutions are in class receiving lectures while other schools suffer of this reoccurring menace. His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello deserves more than applause and accolades for this single feat which ensured that the academic calendar is no longer disrupted and students are no longer delayed in school anymore. That is, when it was necessary, he made it possible for all state institutions to pull out of ASUU just for reasons of ensuring that students have a smooth ride without interrupting the years they are originally meant to spend on campus.
Of importance too, it’s worth noting that the education and students’ friendly Governor Yahaya Bello have richly restructured education in Kogi; from Elementary to Basic and up to the tertiary levels. He touched down to infrastructure development across all campuses in the State. The evidences are glaring; from State University, Polytechnic, the State‘s Technology University, Colleges of Education, Nursing and health schools. Undoubtedly, Governor Bello deserves nothing short of a higher calling to display such leadership dexterity on a bigger platform.
For the other States, the Governors should move to save the future of Nigerian students immediately as we do not know how long the strike action would take. The government should be proactive in meeting the necessary and meetable needs of the union to avoid incidents of the past.

Yahaya Bello halts schedule to attend to people with Special needs
Moved to compassion on Wednesday, Kogi state Governor, Yahaya Bello, alighted from his vehicle to interact with some disabled persons who had been waiting outside close to his residence.
Joyfully displaying a banner with the Governor's portrait on it, the people with special needs expressed gladness when Governor Bello moved closer and exchanged pleasantries with them.
"Your Excellency. A man of simplicity. I doff my hat for you," a voice echoed from the crowd as the Governor exchanged pleasantries with everyone.
"I was just told you have been waiting to see me. I didn't know. I had to go out for a programme. So, when I was told, I had to turn back to come and attend to you," said the empathetic Governor.
Governor Bello, however, promised that they will be well taken care of and will listen to their demands/requests.
