2023: North-central lawmakers pass vote of confidence in Buni, endorse Bello for President
Ahead of the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria, state legislators in all the North Central states have passed a vote of confidence in the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of the All Progressives Congress. The legislators also endorsed Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello for President in 2023, being the only person that has shown interest in the position from the zone.
The lawmakers made the unanimous decision with one voice at the end of a One-Day extraordinary meeting of the APC States Legislatures from the six states of the North Central Zone, held in Abuja on Thursday. They urged Bello to continue to pursue his ambition, saying he remained the only person that the zone could rally around “for it to be counted in the power equation of the country.”
The lawmakers stressed that the Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee needed the support and cooperation of all parties faithful to reposition the party for better performance and victory in the 2023 polls. According to the convener, the immediate past Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Ahmed Marafa, the extraordinary meeting was convened to discuss the political future of the zone with respect to what he called the power equation in the country. Marafa urged members from the six states of the zone to see the reason why all well-meaning men and women must come together and agitate for a fair share for the zone. Also speaking, the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Matthew Kolawole, who initiated the meeting over one year ago, commended the lawmakers for their quick response to the meeting, noting that it would go a long way to show their genuine efforts to look after the welfare of their people. He said since 1960, the zone had been marginalised and neglected in the democratically elected leadership map of the country despite the endowed human resources in the area. Kolawole said it was time for all and sundry, irrespective of party affiliations, to rise up and join hands to agitate for a north-central presidency come 2023. In a communique passed at the end of their one-day roundtable, the legislators appealed to all party faithful at all levels to give their support and cooperation to Buni to complete the good works that had led many people into the party since he assumed office. They also called on all the leaders in North-Central to continue to pursue the North-Central presidency without prejudice to their personal aspiration, pointing out that the number one position in the country would be more beneficial to the zone and the nation at large.
2023: Sanusi urges Nigerians to get voters cards, elect competent leaders
”Every member of Attijaniyya from 18 years old and above, male or female, go and get your voters card," Mr Sanusi said.
The President General of Jam’iyyatu Ansariddeen (Attijaniyya), Nigeria, Muhammad Sanusi, has advised eligible voters in Nigeria to register, get their voters’ card (PVC) and vote the best and competent candidates in all positions in subsequent elections.
Mr Sanusi made the call on Saturday in Lokoja, on the last day of the three-day Annual Conference of the 4th Nigeria World Maulid Anniversary, in honour of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, with the theme: ”The Prophetic Solutions To The Questions of Humanity.” Mr Sanusi, a former emir of Kano, urged the group to vote for the best person that is most competent in every position irrespective of political party or religious affiliations. ”If our youths get employed, the economy of the entire country will improve.
”Most importantly, we are not a political party but we cannot fold our arms and ignore politics.
”Every member of Attijaniyya from 18 years old and above, male or female, go and get your voters card.
”Allah commands you that you should place trust in the hands of those people who are trustworthy.
”Now, we are at the time where those who appoint leaders are the people, your vote is your power, you have a responsibility.
”I am not saying you must vote only for members of Attijaniyya, Muslim, or for any political party; you are to vote for every position the best person that is most competent,” he said.
He added: ”If you don’t take this responsibility you have betrayed Islam. We must preserve the unity of this country to ensure self-reliance, education peace and unity”. He commended Governor Yahaya Bello for hosting the conference, and for accepting their request for the provision of land in the state to build an International Islamic Centre to honour Sheikh Muhammad Ibrahim Niass.
He emphasised that the movement used the opportunity to pray for peace, unity and a good country whose leaders will always do the right thing.
He stressed the need to continue to promote peace, pray and eschew extremism, saying no matter the difficult situation, Allah will be able to see the country through.
”We must therefore not relent in our prayers for this country. We need to educate our children,” he said.
In his remarks, the Kogi State Governor, Mr Bello, described the conference as a historic day for him and the people of Kogi State and Lokoja.
Mr Bello noted that as a governor, he is bound to be fair, just and ensure equity for all, irrespective of religious affiliations or ethnicity.
He said that he had learnt a lot from the gathering; “great messages of unity, love, hard work, peace, tolerance and taking our destinies into our hands, which remains the message of President Muhammadu Buhari.”
He appreciated Muhammad Niass for the gift of the Holy Quran presented to him and his prayers for him to end well as the governor of Kogi State, as well as fulfilling all his ambitions.
NAN reports that the highlight of the occasion was the Islamic recitations and presentation of Holy Quran to the governor by the son of late Ibrahim Niass, Muhammad Niass from Senegal.

“Hatchet job conceived by politicians and implemented by an irresponsible EFCC under the leadership of Abdulrasheed Bawa“
The Kogi State Government has given a 48-hour ultimatum to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to apologise and retract the statement that it has returned N19.3 billion bail-out funds allegedly “hidden” by the state to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) or face legal action.
The ultimatum to retract came following a statement by EFCC and posted on its Facebook Account on November 19, 2021.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos on Sunday, the Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, who gave the ultimatum, said the fifth columnist and progenitors of the allegation against the state government were jittery of Governors Yahaya Bello rising profile ahead of 2023 Presidential election.
He said the whole saga was “a hatchet job conceived by politicians and implemented by an irresponsible EFCC under the leadership of Abdulrasheed Bawa” to tarnish the rising political image of Governor Yahaya Bello, bring him to disrepute and lower him in the estimation of right-thinking members of the society by portraying him as a corrupt governor/person.
“Nigerians know that all banking transactions including those done online are done based on instructions given by the customers. We had in the past challenged and we hereby again challenge the EFCC to produce the account mandate, account package, and the phone number and BVN of those who allegedly opened and operated the ‘Kogi State salary bailout fixed deposit account No. 0073572696’ on behalf of the Kogi State government.
“The EFCC should tell Nigerians who was drawing the interest from the said fixed deposit account and where same was being paid by the bank.
“Rather than answer the above posed questions truthfully and faithfully as a responsible organization, the EFCC descended into the realm of lies, not only to Nigerians but to the Court. The EFCC lied on oath that the mandate form which was duly signed and clearly endorsed with our bailout accounts 1 and 2 shared the same account mandate with the ‘Kogi State Salary bailout fixed deposit account No. 0073572696’ even though the document they attached to their affidavit in support of that deposition in Court did not support the lie.
“Nigerians would then see that it is the agency set up to fight corruption that is now engaging in corrupt practices and tactics, lying on oath and coercing witnesses to support their lies, and engaging in an unconscionable and elaborate attempt to misinform Nigerians all in a bid to satisfy paymasters and political allies and godfathers who are clearly using the EFCC to fight a political war ahead of the 2023 general elections.
“I want to assure you that after 48 hours from today, if they refuse to retract their ill-fated, false, politically motivated, irresponsible press statement, we will drag them to court,” the commissioner said.
Fanwo alleged that some of the governors interested in the 2023 presidential race are using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to discredit Governor Yahaya Bello.
“This is the height of irresponsibility by an agency charged with the responsibility of fighting corruption in our country.
“Certain individuals, especially governors with interest in 2023, have hired some agencies to discredit our governor before 2023. They attempted to use the NFIU, ICPC, Code of Conduct. They have finally settled for EFCC, which has all along acted as hired guns for these individuals to discredit and vilify Bello.”
N20bn Saga Exposed: Plot To Deny North Central Presidential Ticket Behind EFCC vs Yahaya Bello
The panic withdrawal of the suit against the Kogi State government by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has been found to be fishy with a lot of expositions.
Experts reviewing the EFCC's claim that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has received N19.3 billion Kogi salary bailout funds allegedly domiciled in an account with the Sterling Bank, found that the EFCC's had failed to follow the standard of its operations by now making public its findings from the investigation it had supposedly done as it promised the court.
The group of experts and undercover reporters making their findings known in Abuja also revealed several angles to the EFCC versus Kogi State government bailout saga.
Recall that the Kogi State Government had in October, challenged the EFCC to come out with the report of its investigation on the purported N20 billion bailout funds over which a Lagos High Court reportedly froze the state’s account in August.
The sudden and panic conslusive line drawn by the EFCC as it has claimed to have recovered the money gave room for digging through which it was discovered that the EFCC is being used as part of the plot to deny north central presidential ticket as well as the plot to give north central the chairmanship of the All Progressive Party (APC).
It was discovered that the supposedly financial crime fighting commission is being doctored by Lawal Garuba who claims to be house boy or close confident and or an ally to Mamman Dauda, working with Governor of Kebbi State, Gov Baderu of Jigawa state and Gov. Fayemi of Ekiti state.
The plot is said to be focused on the promotion of George Akume of Benue state and Sen 313 from the north central in order to deny north central the presidential ticket.
The revealers documented that the plot is heavily connected to the plan to give Ahmed Tinubu the 2023 presidential ticket, a move that is not supported by several Nigerian leaders and even international bodies as they all call for younger age for the presidency.
It was reported that Tinubu has deployed resources to governors above to distort the Yahaya Bello campaign and form corruption cases against him, using EFCC.
It's believed by the plotters that having Yahaya Bello towering name tarnished could truncate his ambition.
The north central, south east especially and young Nigerians should be wary of the plot to impose Tinubu on Nigerians. More so, Nigerians should have listening ears to the cry of Ibrahim Babangida and others calling for younger people to take over the leadership of the country.
N20bn Accusation: Kogi Takes Legal Action Against EFCC; Says EFCC Pursuing A Political Agenda
Kogi State Government says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been pursuing a political agenda regarding the controversial N20bn bail-out fund the state was accused of. Gatekeepers News reports that the Kogi State Government says the EFCC’s is attempting to desperately wriggle out of a bad case with another, which is aimed at misleading Nigerians.
The State said this while quoting a letter signed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, which had not said anything different from what had been said so far on the controversial N20bn bail-out fund
In reaction to the press release issued by the anti-graft agency, Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, said the Government would prepare a comprehensive response to the latest of the desperate moves by the Commission to save its face given its apparent goof and unethical conduct in the matter in dispute.
Fanwo said, “The press statement by the Commission is a malicious attempt to rope the state into a matter that ordinarily has nothing to do with our dear state.
“We maintain the unassailable truth that the Kogi State Government did not operate such account with the bank as affirmed in a letter by the bank. We sympathise with the EFCC as it has been a herculean task to cover the initial misinformation and deliberate deceit by the Commission.”
Fanwo while stressing that the Kogi State Government would react to the latest EFCC statement comprehensively, noted that “every option that is legal will be considered to maintain the innocence and transparency of our Government.” He added that “Kogites and indeed, Nigerians should rest assured that we will get to the root of this matter.”

"It vowed that it would take legal action to maintain the “innocence and transparency” of the government.
