mpowa:It was fun gone bad; true. They were partying; true. Is partying illegal? No. Would the Police ask questions when someone ends up dead hours after attending a party? Definitely. And the Police is not accusing anyone of anything yet. They only want to know how a guy who was drinking some hours ago suddenly ended up in a hospital DOA (Dead On Arrival). But you entirely missed the point I was trying to make in my post. I should have said complicity, not conspiracy (my bad) and complicity is a very strange dice in law and people get convicted for it on the most ridiculous and flimsy excuses you can ever hear. And one of those reasons can be encouraging someone to take an unreasonable amount of alcohol (reason number 1) and an autopsy report which indicates that the person died as a consequence of that alcohol intake (reason number 2). The key word here is unreasonable. If it was one shot or two, no one would be making noise. But 30 (or 40 as some people claim)? Damn; that's high. And please note those two conditions. Complicity is the participation in a completed criminal act of an accomplice, a partner in the crime who aids or encourages (abets) other perpetrators of that crime, and who shared with them an intent to act to complete the crime. A person is an accomplice of another person in the commission of a crime if they purpose the completion of a crime, and toward that end, if that person solicits or [b]encourages the other person, or aids or attempts to aid in planning or committing the crime, or has legal duty to prevent that crime but fails to properly make an effort to prevent it.. Is drinking a crime? No. Did someone end up dead? Yes. Was the death from natural causes? No. Was a crime committed? Maybe. If reason number 2 that I mentioned above was fulfilled, then the Police would ask if they encouraged him when he was taking that alcohol. Did they? Yes. Do you now get my point? In the end, that autopsy report saved them from a lot of Police wahala. Can we both agree on that? |
ijekul: simiolu1:I did you a favour by showing you the correlation between both cases. If you can't see it by now, then I can't help you more than this. Thank you |
The way I see it, the woman's husband is guilty of something. It may or may not be adultery. And chances are, it would be adultery. The man can't eat his cake and have it and the woman, in my opinion, handled the case according to what she thought was best. Instead of shouting on her husband, she reported him to a fellow man whose wife might be a culprit in this too. So, she left the decision of what should happen to the woman's husband and he too did what he thought was best. The woman is actually smart, and her husband would probably be afraid of how she would deal with future cases of infidelity from him. And we also don't know if this is the first case of infidelity on the part of her husband. So no one can say if she acted based on that too. If I were the woman, I would kuku carry myself to the man's family and report myself to them. I would ask them to then plead to my husband on my behalf. If the man's family is responsible, he would then have to explain to them what a married woman's panties were doing in his pockets; then he would have to apologise to his wife about his philandering ways. In the end, he begs the woman and knows she ain't a fool that can be played around like a football. |
madjune:Bros, I would like to explain some things to you about murder cases. Please read along. 1. A lady is pregnant and tells her friend about it. The said friend "suggests" that she aborts it. 2. The lady goes to someone else; probably the boyfriend and tells the individual she wants to abort a pregnancy and the person gives her money for it. 3. The lady goes to a Doctor who conducts the abortion. 4. The lady dies after saying all that happened. And an autopsy report indicates she died from reasons relating to an abortion that was not properly done. Under the Nigerian constitution; the Doctor is guilty of murder, the person who gave her money for the abortion knowing that she wanted to abort the baby and the friend that "suggested" the abortion are both guilty of conspiracy. If you dont believe, ask a lawyer or police officer. That is why you should always pray never to be caught in the middle of a case. Applying that to this scenario, Davido and co actively encouraged an individual to drink an unreasonable amount of alcohol. Then the person dies. If the autopsy report had indicated that the cause of death was directly related to the alcohol intake, all those that encouraged the guy to take that alcohol whether it was a bet it not are in deep poo. But luckily for Davido, the said autopsy report indicates that the guy died from reasons unrelating to the alcohol. So that autopsy report is actually good news for Davido. And he does not need to prove his innocence on Instagram; he should go to the police with the truth. If they believe him, his name would be cleared. And with the way the Police have handled this so far, I don't think anyone can cry "witch-hunt" |
A lot of these footballers playing with the big clubs can afford a lot of luxuries. I watch their videos on YouTube and if one does not have a strong mind, it would lead to depression. Even FC Barcelona has a deal with Audi and that "small boy" Dembele received his Audi the day he was unveiled. The last time I counted, CR7 had 12 automobiles. I would not call them cars. Last time I counted too, Messi had 10. I'm actually not surprised Ronaldo has a Chiron; Buggatti used him for an advert of the car. Who knows if it was even a gift or if he had been given a rebate off the car? |

Unmarshalled:It might take a while. I think they send out mails in batches. I remember Chimdi (the programme coordinator) tweeting that they received over 1000 applications in the 1st 24 hours after the application was made public. So you can imagine the amount of applications they would be handling by now. One thing that is certain is that the reply would surely come; fret not. |
lovemaths:Bride wetin? Well, I have only used the certificate as WhatsApp dp as I no get CV. Would have enrolled in the intermediate track but I have a lot on my hands. Mind if I send a PM? |
johnime:Slavery. Combining the job of a DB engineer, Digital marketer, video editor and front end developer into one all in the name of internship |
lovemaths:Sharp girl. I hope you finished 1.0. Was part of it too |

beatsbyj2g:Ok. A lot of people visit github and download what ever seems interesting to them without really knowing how to put those little extra nifty features to use. Just wanted to be sure you are not one of them |
beatsbyj2g:The only thing digital ocean does is to simply the creation of a server. With AWS, you only need to create an AMI (Amazon Machine Image) once. Once you have everything all set up the way you want, you can save that Image and spin it off later with the clicks of a few buttons. But getting that first setup up and running is what a lot of people run from |
beatsbyj2g:Why are you using a hacked version of Angular? Last time I checked, it's Open Source. |
beatsbyj2g:I would advice you host with AWS. Amazon has servers (web and database) that are eligible for free tier. |
Alexgeneration:Send a PM. |
airsaylongcon:Facebook that created React, React Native, GraphQL, HHVM, Immutable JS, Haxl, Fresco, etc is not a tech company? Then what is a tech company? The guy no answer me. Maybe he should visit their github page and see what we're talking about. https://github.com/facebook?page=1 |
majekdom2:I'll address the bolded. Every idea is a copy or metamorphosis of another idea. Mention any idea from the top of your head (whether you thought about it) or its already in existence; I'll pick it apart and show you that the above statement is true. It is simply the law of nature and it is true in Science, Technology, Business, Psychology and so on. So, marketplaces are not new; they are very old--eBay, Craigslist etc. While I understand your point, innovation is not some rocket science we think it to be. Because at the end of the day; your service, product or solution should solve your user's/customer's problem/challenge in the simplest way possible. Customers don't care about the technology; the question is what can it do for them? If it does that thing successfully and delights them in the process; it is innovative. How do you think people in Nigeria felt when they could buy Nokia 3310, purchase that "thing" called sim card, put it in their phones and call anywhere in the world? Europe and America had been using telephone lines for a very looooooong time. But to the Nigerian; the GSM was innovative. How do you also think it felt when people were now charged per second instead of the per minute billing that MTN and Econet had been known for? My point: innovation is in the complex engineering problems and it is also in the simple things. It can be as complex as a self-driving car, and it can also be as simple as pricing or mode of payment. That is why Nigeria is the only country in the world that Uber accepts cash. That is also why Nigeria is one of the few countries in the world that e-commerce stores do pay-on-delivery. That my bro is also innovation. So the question I would ask you is this: would you start a self-driving car company in Nigeria? Would you start something like SpaceX in Africa? The point is simple: people look first and foremost to their immediate environment for problems and challenges to solve. When that solution becomes successful, they then look to expand it. That is why Nigeria critically needs companies like LifeBank to handle the logistics of moving blood from where it is to where it is needed so that patients would not die. That is also why Nigerians need something like Kudi.ai that allows them to make financial transactions from Facebook messenger. That is also why Nigerians still need something like Hotels.ng to allow them book for hotels from the comfort of their phones. Because in advanced countries, these problems have been solved ten times over. Startups loose money for a lot of reasons; pegging it at "copying" is at best simplistic. |
daraghdave:I'm actually a developer. But to be frank, a lot of startups in Nigeria are loosing money. But I am quite sure Flutterwave, Paystack and Hotels.ng are making profits. While it would be very easy to scale the first two to render services to the whole continent; Hotels.ng and ToLet would have the hardest time expanding beyond the shores of Nigeria. So I viewed the companies from the POV of an investor and ranked them accordingly |
Cacawa2:1. Please Sir, for this sake of this discussion, what is a tech company? 2. And why do you say facebook is not a tech company? Because it does not manufacture a hardware product? Is that your benchmark of what a tech company is? 3. Is a software company a tech company? In the world of startups, you should know that there are different categories of companies. They include but are not limited to software (artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and those you term to be just websites), hardware (robotics, phones, self-driving cars, electric aeroplanes), biotech etc. Now you should also know that these companies create products or services for different industries. That not all of them manufacture physical products does not mean they do not have products or services. And that my bro is where you mixed it up. Microsoft started as a software tech company (Operating Systems and Microsoft Office) but later branched into other industries (gaming, music, cloud infrastructure etc). Google started out as a search engine but is also branching out into other industries. Same with Amazon. So if Facebook decides to remain in the social media industry, that does not mean it is not a tech company? As a developer, I would also state as-a-matter-of-fact that websites that have logic embedded in them are softwares! Yeah; you read me right. If you are a not a developer/programmer, please don't try to argue this statement. In fact, what people call artificial intelligence are actually algorithms powered by machine learning. And some algorithms can be as short as 3 lines of code! My point, facebook is not just a website with only HTML and CSS; it is a software. It uses facial recognition algorithms, machine learning, etc that would practically blow your mind. Fun fact: there are over 10,000 versions of facebook running simultaneously!!!!!!!! Fun fact: Apple (a hardware company) partnered with Snapchat (a social media company whose facial recognition software is impeccable) to create the facial ID that runs on the recently released iPhones. I bet you did not know that .If Seun knew what he was doing, Nairaland would have actually become a tech company too. And before you scream blue murder, I'll ask: what is the difference between Stack Overflow and Nairaland? They are both forums, but the technology that powers SO is one of a kind. So back to my first question: what do you define as a tech company? harmbhrosz:According to Wikipedia; A technology company (often tech company) is a type of business entity that focuses primarily on the development and manufacturing of technology. Apple, IBM, Lenovo, Huawei, Microsoft, and Oracle, among others, are considered prototypical technology companies. Information technology (IT) companies and high tech companies are subsets of technology companies. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technology_company According to Wikipedia too; Information technology (IT) is the application of computers to store, study, retrieve, transmit, and manipulate data, or information, often in the context of a business or other enterprise. IT is considered a subset of information and communications technology (ICT) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information_technology Wikipedia defines high-tech as "High technology, often abbreviated to high tech (adjective forms high-technology, high-tech or hi-tech) is technology that is at the cutting edge: the most advanced technology available. As of the onset of the 21st century, products considered high tech are often those that incorporate advanced computer electronics. However, there is no specific class of technology that is high tech—the definition shifts and evolves over time—so products hyped as high-tech in the past may now be considered to be everyday or outdated technology." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_tech So going by the screenshot below, those industries are actually tech industries!

princepet: princepet: princepet:Guys, send me a PM, I'll reply your PM in less than 6 hours. My location is at Iyana Ipaja, Lagos. Also, register for ALC 2.0. The beginner courses require no experience whatsoever and it is free. |
Neyoor:If you can figure out a way to get a flash drive or external hard drive to me, then why not? Biko go register for ALC 2.0; it is free https://andela.com/alcwithGoogle |
Jpaul16:While I agree with majority of the companies you have there, please remove Jobberman from the list; it simply does not belong there. Rather than include Jobberman, I would include Flutterwave--founded by Iyinoluwa Aboyeji and co, flutterwave is Africa's Stripe. Apart from having payment solutions built in house like Barter, flutterwave also powers other payment solutions like Kudi.ai and many more. In fact, their API is so extensible, a lot of people in the payments solution business would prefer to build on it rather than building from scratch. Iyin used to be a co-founder at Andela before he left to start Flutterwave. In the less than 2 years of its existence, Flutterwave has processed over $1B in transactions. https://techpoint.ng/2017/08/01/flutterwave-raises-10-million-dollars/ While I agree that ToLet.com.ng is growing, I would rather put Paystack up there than ToLet. Paystack was founded by Shola and was the first African company to be funded by Y Combinator. If you don't know YC, please use Google. Some months ago, they crossed processing over N1B monthly. Paystack has also integrated its solution with Shopify and its growing popularity amongst Nigerian merchants is due to its ease of use and very low transaction cost. Paystack charges 1.5% for each transaction it processes and N100 for every payment above N1,500 or N2,500 (I am not sure which one). If you don't think this is a big deal, compare it to the 30% Google and Apple charge to use their payment infrastructure. Did I also mention that their API is sweet to use? https://blog.paystack.com/the-road-to-1-billion-in-monthly-transaction-volume-at-paystack-2f0ca4b6edbb Well, this is just my opinion and you can agree or disagree with it. |
[s] azuson:[/s] Fixed. |
ebroheem:It's a remote training; 3 months. No experience is required for the beginner courses. But for the intermediate courses, you will submit a project as part of your application. So experience is required for the intermediate courses |

preciousnobel:Department of Pure and Applied Physics. Quite a few of us in my set published our projects as papers but I think I was the first. The link below would download the pdf version of the paper. http://www.ijser.org/onlineResearchPaperViewer.aspx?On-the-study-of-optical-and-structural-properties-of-zinc-oxide-thin-films-by-sol-gel-dip-coating-technique.pdf Journal name is IJSER. I did my analysis with excel. The lab equipment used for sample analysis generated data and saved the data into excel spreadsheets. This made my job much easier as the only thing I needed to do was to use equations to generate additional data and plot graphs. But the generated data was massive and scary at first. It was when my supervisor started explaining the things I was going to do that I was no longer afraid. Imagine getting results from the lab, opening the excel spreadsheet and seeing columns A - M and row 7 - 1304. But doing the analysis myself made me know how to use Excel. When I went to print the graphs (I did colour printing for them) someone requested that I should come help him do his analysis. I no even answer the guy. |
Andela is back with its ALC (Andela Learning Community) programme but the programme is now offering more courses. The programme sponsored by Google in partnership with Udacity now offers Web design, Product design and Android development. This is a chance to learn programming from world class tutors while interacting with people from all over the country. ALC 1.0 was all about android programming but 2.0 includes web design, product design and of course android development. As a participant in ALC 1.0, I recommend this programme to everyone; it is absolutely worth it. For those who are certificate junkies; the certificates given out are endorsed by Google and Udacity. If you have any questions; you can ask me here, or ask Andela Nigeria on Twitter https://twitter.com/Andela_Nigeria To apply, visit https://andela.com/alcwithGoogle

phetty:Immediately you start writing markup (HTML), you have begun some form of programming. So technically, it is no longer design but development. A lot of people think the terms are synonymous but they aren't. And understanding the difference between them would save you from confusion later on. Design does not involve any form of coding; that is why design tools include Photoshop, Balsamiq, Gravit, Sketch etc while development tools include text editors (notepad, notepad++, VS Code, Atom, Sublime etc) plus other software depending on your use case. There is nothing like front-end design; only front-end development. What training schools and people tag as front-end design is actually User Experience/User Interface (UX/UI) design. UX/UI design is the process of transforming a digital product from an idea to a concept or enhancing user satisfaction, usability and accessibility of a digital product. The reason I said concept for the first part of my definition is that design processes do not directly produce the digital product. It's like the way architects draw building plans. The building plan is not the final outcome; it still has to be built with brick and mortar. But it is a concept that if followed, would result in a building that people can live in. So for digital products, the UX/UI design process produces wireframes, mockups, high fidelity pictures of how the digital product would look like. It also produces personas, user stories etc. Read the links below to understand more https://medium.com/usable/rethinking-hotels-ng-886f6e25f1bf https://medium.com/startup-grind/i-got-rejected-by-apple-music-so-i-redesigned-it-b7e2e4dc64bf To answer your last question. Technically, you don't need to learn any programming language to be a UX/UI designer. What you need to learn about instead are colours, composition, sketching, user experience research, design guidelines and patterns, and then design tools like the ones I listed above. But this is where I need to say this caveat: a lot of UX/UI designers write HTML, CSS and Javascript. This is not to say you must learn how to code when you are a designer. But writing HTML, CSS and JS when you are a bad ass designer would get you hired before someone who is only a designer. It is simply a case of killing two birds with the same stone. In the thread below, a guy comes up with the design, then other guys jump on it. https://radar.techcabal.com/t/ui-with-figma-design-delivered-daily/13299 But the road to becoming an experienced front-end developer is still long. You have a lot of ground ahead of you. See attached pictures and the youtube link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBzRwzY7G-k&t=681s
