@ceaser

You're indeed wise! grin grin grin

Lifepo4 it's really the bomb and worth investing on... I chose the this battery for my small setup which did cost more than if I had used lead acid battery.

I bought mine directly from the factory and it cost me 140k for 12v 100ah though, not yet connected to solar yet but I charge with a Lifepo4 grid charger of 14.6v 20a supplied along with the battery which charges full in five hours if completely drained.

I have a 600w stand alone inverter which display function is really great. My battery charges to 14.4v but holds load of 78w at 13.1v and can go like that from 9am till 7pm and still have 12.9v or 12.8v.

This load include: 32" TV=67w, GOTV decoder=18w and ceiling fan=20w

For some reasons I can't explain my inverter power's this load all at once at lower power than the real power of this load put together which is suppose to be 67+20+18=98w
So instead of having a power consumption of 98w from the display I get 78w. Please I'll appreciate if anybody can explain this...

Now one thing worth mentioning is, the inverter is 100% power efficient. It reads 0w at idle state.

Seriously Lifepo4 is the real deal, just can't wait to go off grid. Already have a smart MPPT SCC secured ahead...

@simydan..Kudos for this impressive thread..

I am currently in a desperate bid to have this set up, and I am willing to make the jump to Solar as well..

I have a few enquiries concerning cost of the LiFePo4, cost of your setup and some technical info..

I went to Alibaba and i saw quite a fair good deals on Lithium like the link below..

https://m.made-in-china.com/product/24V-200ah-32650-LiFePO4-Lithium-Ion-Battery-Price-877417665.html

My lil queries are:

1) Can we trust these merchants to deliver a good product and can your link offer us a cheaper and viable alternative grin

2) Does the absence of BMS incorporated into the system place us at an disadvantage?

3) Does your setup have the BMS? If no? What processes are you deploying to manage your battery charging demands.

4) What is the total cost of your project..?.

5) Can an area with a paltry 3 hours power supply per day match your energy performance, assuming the solar option isn't functional..

Abeg... No mind my plenty questions oo... Consider me a friend in neeeeeeeed.

1. Whether you'll get a good product from the merchant, I'll say yes because I've had quite a number of experience dealing with the Chinese merchant and one rule of thumb is, I don't like to compromise price and that has in a large extent work for me.
Getting a good and a favourable deal? I can guarantee you that you'll get the best deal you can ever imagined.

2. Running a lithium ion battery without BMS is very risky and highly dangerous. It is not advisable and considered a bad practice thereby, setting you at a great disadvantage.

3. My Battery pack is a factory build and has a BMS in it. Even, the charger I'm using is recommended and sent with the battery.
Lifepo4 is quite expensive so proper care should be taken to care for it especially with charging.
Mine currently charge at 14.6v 20a CC/CV

4. currently the cost of my project is estimated about 230k that's for 12v 100ah Lifepo4 battery, 600w pure sine wave inverter, 14.6v 20a Lifepo4 charger and ATS.

5. Lifepo4 is customised according to the use and application. The advantage of having you battery pack built from the factory is that they build to your requirements.
Yes a pack can be built with a BMS that can take larger current to charge the battery.
E.G:
A 12v 100ah battery pack built to to withstand 35amps constant charging current can achieve under 3hrs full charge
35×3=105a
So also, a 200ah pack built to charge at 70a constant current can achieve under 3hrs full charge.
70×3=210a

Mine its build to charge at 14.6v 20a so I get full charge in 5hrs.
Not that it can charge at higher current but it will reduce the cycle life.

Hope I didn't bored you with too much talk sha?

Thanks for replying.

I've settled to remove the AC and fridge from the consumption, so as to maximise the power.

My total load would be 535W if I remove the AC and fridge.

So, I'd be glad if you and others would suggest the best configuration that would enable I have a minimum of 20hrs of light per day, even if phcn fails.

Another question: I've been using a 1kva inverter since April, last two years. I only use a 15w bulb, a laptop and a fan. When I started using it, I could use it for 3 days, although nepa do bring light in between and I use the laptop and fan at the same time. But some time last year, I used a soldering iron on it, as I wanted to solder one of my appliances. Since then, I hardly get up to 10hrs straight just on using my laptop and no fan some times, it's less than 6hrs. If I use the fan, I doubt it'd sustain up to 4hrs. What could likely be the problem? Is it the battery or the inverter itself?

I'll really be glad to help out especially if you're a DIY person. Just like Olopan said if you get a quote base on on 535w for 20hrs the price will really be scary.

But logically your 535w load will not run simultaneously so, that will make the cost considerable.

I have a system I recently setup for myself even though my estimated load was approximately 250w. currently i hardly run on 180w and mostly run on 80w load and enjoy a 24hrs steady power even though the my system is Dependant on PHCN not solar.

For a 535w load to run 20hrs that will be
535×20=10,700
To get a bank of 10,700w at 50% DOD it would be
10,700×2=21,400
A large solar array will be needed to charge the system.

The cost will be very huge so, you have to reach a compromise to get a reasonable and reliable setup at the end of the day.

As small as my system is if I'm to quote it with solar, it's worth over 300k with me outsourcing and installing it myself.

Don't get discourage, power is not cheap. With proper planning you can start with a system that will give room for upgrade, that way you can upgrade it in future.

For your old system, I believe it's the battery that has reached it's life circle due to 80%-100% DOD (ABUSE)
It's just a coincidence that it started acting up just when you used a soldering iron.

You can reach me for so we can work out something for your new project. 081...3460...8560

Hello!

Please I need candid advice on the best choice and also the the budget from the inverter to the installation cost.

I need a setup that'd last me for the whole day, given the power consumptions.

1. 4 laptops
2. One 32inch led tv
3. Three ceiling fans.
4. 5 energy saving bulbs
5. Home theatre
6. AC
7. Mid size refrigerator

I would want both the inverter and solar together. So what's gonna be the likely configuration and budget?

Welcome to the family!

If you need proper quotation for a standard solar setup, always do your home work first by calculating your load total and run time.
Except you're ready to a pay a pro that would just look at the listed load and give you a quote for oversized system which will pay you but more expensive.

Load wattage and run time always make a big difference in a solar setup and I believe you're here to get the best at a reasonable cost.

You can start by getting the wattage of all the load and the hours they will run during the day and night.

How's your gencool ac holding up so far? I plan to use it on inverter or is it gen mode only.

The gen mode can be turned on anytime regardless of the power source you're using.
It will do well on your inverter as long as your inverter is big enough to carry it.

The beauty of it is, it doesn't surge when starting. Meaning: a 1000w inverter can power a 1HP gen cool comfortably.

Mine it's doing very fine and a year old now. But, you must baby sit it by constant servicesing.
Constant servicesing means; always clean the filter and the evaporator time to time to keep it chilling.

The main reason i started this thread is to have a practical and a first hand experience with Lifepo4 battery performance over the traditional lead acid batteries. Because I'm a tech and diy person who believe there is always a better or new ways of doing things from the common or traditional ways. That's the reason I started researching and outsourcing for things I need for my personal project... I can say at this time i have made some level of success and have some amazing stuff in my home that are not common but are very compact and power efficient.
This item's range from ceiling fan with 20w power, a pressure booster water pump with 135w power, an inverter generator...

While I admit that I've really been successful with this projects even though one of it may had failed, I choose to make this one a topic and a live setup from idea to implementation for the sole purpose that if it work's fine for me, then anybody can implement it.

To your questions:

1. Yes! You can trust the quality of the product. As for the offer, my link can offer you a very good deal and a much better deal for commercial purpose.

2. The absence of BMS in the lithium battery tech is very risky and dangerous as such considered a bad practice.

3. My battery pack is factory build and has a BMS in it. Even at that the factory provided me with the recommended charger suited for my battery voltage and current. As well, i just got a charge controller suited for it too.

4. The estimated cost of my project is 225k
Battery=140k
14.6v 20a Lifepo4 charger=30k
12v 600w(900VA) pure sine wave inverter=40k
ATS=15k (though not compulsory if you wish)

5. This is where Lifepo4 is sweet especially if you are building according to your application because a manufacturer will always ask this question.
Yes! You can charge it full in 3hours if that is drawn to the attention of the builder. This is where BMS and the type of cells comes into play.
A spec of 12v 100ah or 12v 200ah can be built with a constant charging current of 35amps and 70amps respectively.
For 100ah battery (35×3=105amps)
For 200ah battery (70×3=210amps)
Note that this kind of build attracts extra cost as quality of cells and BMS are highly considered, and chargers with higher charging current are more expensive.
Mine is a 20amps charger so, it charges my 100ah battery full in 5hours if the battery is completely drained.

Hope I've not bored you with too much talk...

So sorry for the long break, I have been busy. I like to say a big welcome to all of us who made it to 2020...
May we find fulfillment and joy all through the year in Jesus name!

For my system which has been the soul of this thread, I'll at this moment call it a great success and a very standard backup system. All thanks to my discovery to Lifepo4 battery tech.

So far so good, my setup is over a month now and the system its doing amazingly well. I haven't gone off grid yet but, with the kind of power supply I get from PHCN, the system has been able to hold very fine.

The system runs up to 10-12 hours with the following load: TV, decoder, Fan and home theater without the battery getting up to 50% DOD.
Power supply for me now it's 24hours and my generator has been on holidays now.

Solar project loading as my charge controller has been secured. Note; I make sure all my charging devices are Lifepo4 compliance so is the charge controller.

Feel free to contact me if you need a Lifepo4 battery setup and I'll be glad to help and if you already have a Lifepo4 pack and will need accessories then you can hook me up.

hello house, being a while. need some inputs on this.
I currently have a system that works well for me.
2pcs of 100ah batteries in parallel.
40a pwm cc, 1000w modified 12v inverter and a 600w pv (150x4) in parallel.
inverter runtime is from 7am to 9:30 pm daily with average load of 80w. from 9:30pm to 7am, I run dc loads of about 80w load.
am able to achieve. above 50% dod with this setup. I am now upgrading as I need am adding a 80w AKIA fridge to the setup. the fridge will run during peak sunlight around 11am to 3am.
I would still love working with a 12v inverter because of my Dc loads.
whats your take on the required upgrade.@ceaser,topmost,kiekie,..niyi....ojesky....etal

As long as your Solar setup is fine with maximum output, I don't see any problem with that. The only problem I see here, is with your Inverter!
Modified sinewave inverters are not good for inductive load like refrigerators. So! You may have to change your inverter to pure sinewave inverter.

Never the less, the gurus here will provide better view to this grin grin grin

I think the power rating in watts is around 110 -120 watts

From the formula of P=IV ; where P is power in watts, I is the value of the rated current and V is the rated voltage.

From the provided data: P= 0.5 x 220 = 110 watt
or
P=0.5 x 240 = 120 watt.

My view about it.

Yes! That's very correct!
If the power is not stated but the voltage and current are provided then you can always get the power in watts by multiplying the voltage and current
P(watt)=V(voltage) × I(current)

I suppose LFPs are much safer sha. The worst experience that I've had with LFP misuse/maltreatment is swelling and outright power degradation. I have LFPs replaced the AGMs inside the house. Li-ion will not tolerate such nonsense hence all Li-ion packs are hung outside.

I agree with you lifepo4 are by far safer and better for solar or inverter projects.

What most Nigerians failed to know is that this batteries are built by specifications, that's base on what you intend to use it for. Most time, abuse or the wrong use or application can cause damage or even explosion but I'm very sure that lifepo4 don't catch fire like lithium ion and are more safer.

I have a factory built lifepo4 that was built to my spec and it's incredibly doing very fine.

Let us learn to understand and use products according to the built specification so as to reduce the risk of accident.

I know very well that almost everybody on this thread would want to ask the same questions. How did I get all the stuff I used for my setup?

Lifepo4 is not common, especially those with higher capacity. Trust me, I tried getting it locally and it seems almost impossible to get, so also is the charger and the ATS...

Like I said earlier, all the stuffs I used for my setup was gotten directly from manufacturer in China. That's because I do product research and since I don't have any Inverter or solar setup before and because I'm considering going into this line of business I decided to use my personal project as a test sample.

This is the reason I created this thread even before I got the materials needed for the project.
I decided to make it a real practical thread from start to where we are now.

Also have in mind that this is a continues process as I'm yet to hook it up to solar soon...

The battery you see here cost 140k.

Hello house!

Truly! Lifepo4 really rocks and it's worth being use as a replacement in any grid tie and off grid setup.

But one must be careful enough and be ready to go the long road when setting up a backup system with lifepo4. Like I earlier said most of the inverters and charge controllers in the market today are designed with the traditional lead acid batteries in mind so can not be completely safe or compatible with lifepo4.

Though there are a number of hybrid inverters and charge controllers with lifepo4 functions. I strongly recommend using such devices for your setup just to prolong battery life and for safety.

Lifepo4 is actually not a cheap way to go due to the fact that it comes with a premium price but I must say it's worth it if you're able to get the setup correctly.

For me, enjoyment all the way! Though a small setup, but quite good and impressive since I can actually power most of my appliances for good number of hours...
Technology Market / Re: How To Set Up A Standard Backup Power Supply With Lifepo4 Battery by simydan(m): 12:54am On Dec 13, 2019
With Almost a week of installation and with over two days of power outage due to PHCN strike, I was able to test my setup fully.

I can say that it's quite impressive because the setup can last up to 12hours or more if the load shading is done correctly especially, when heavier load like refrigerator is kept out. My gen had to come up twice for about 3-4hours within the over 48hour of power outage just to recharge the battery and I have enjoyed power for quite a good number of hours.

This for me is a very big success and worth the time and efforts. Adding a solar panel to this setup means 24/7 power supply...

Now I'm moving to the next step. Which is, hooking up a solar panel to my current setup and see how well it will work.

I must say lithium iron phosphate (Lifepo4) battery is very good and strong for any backup system that will be subjected to heavy load because they do very well in handling large discharge current and very steady in their active voltage.

So far, the test result has been so impressive. I must confess, the system is performing above my expectations.

Though the test is still going on and I have had course to run the system for 7hours from 8:00am starting with TV and home theater then after some hour's the home theater was removed and decoder and fan came on. At about 1:45pm I connected the refrigerator, then it ran till about 3:15pm when power was restored and system switched to grid power.

To my surprise the inverter battery indicator is still on full battery status and battery was @ 12.6v when grid power was restored.

The inverter has really proved very efficient in conversion and load management. From all indication, my load wattage seems to drop drastically when plugged to the inverter. The inverter seem to indicate lower load power than the actual load rating thereby, leading to very low power consumption.

Testing has been on since Friday and up till now I haven't run out of power even though power is not really stable.

From all indications, my project seems to be a success even as the test continues.

This is no doubt a standard backup for me because I have power since Friday on the appliances I stated earlier at the beginning of this thread.

Currently these are my load and power consumption:
32" TV: 67w
Gotv decoder: 18w
Home theater: 68w
Ceiling fan 20w
Refrigerator: 100w

System still on testing mode, more update still coming.

Feel free to ask questions cheesy cheesy cheesy
