afrodoc2: I have listened to Tim Sherwood himself say that he and other top guys at Spurs did not expect Harry Kane to go on and become this good. I was surprised because i expected him to reel out the usual " i always knew he was good" story but he was honest and told the truth. And the season Sherwood was there coaching Adebayor and Harry Kane he scored 3 goals in 10 league matches, i wouldnt call that hot. To give you another indication Harry Kane made his Spurs debut in 2011 after which he went on loan after loan after loan without making waves only for him to get his first Spurs league goal ALMOST 3 YEARS AFTER in 2014.
Rashford was on the bench because there was no other striker in the United set up that was fit up to under 18 squad sef. All senior strikers were injured, Martial got injured on the day, Wilson was injured, Will Keane was injured, Ashley Fletcher was on loan.
Last year it got so bad the United reserve team was playing central midfielders at CF position because there was just nobody to play it. That was why Rashford played that day. It took an injury crisis. The boy is good but let us not rewrite history. I remember LvG playing Young at CF (9)against Tottenham. |

Conte had said in the past that he gives chances to only youths he deems worthy and he mentioned Pogba. Recently, Christensen has been getting more chances under Conte because he's proven himself worthy in Conte's eyes. So what's wrong in giving 2 examples of youth players that played under Conte to buttress my point? Is Musonda playing for your village people? Where were you when God was sharing commonsense? Nihilist: If you're good, you're good.
If Rashford was merely lucky to get a break, how come he's still in the first 11 now especially when he's competing with Martial, Lukaku, Mhkitaryan and Mata for a place in the front 4.
He wasn't Lucky to get his chance. He wasn't Lucky to score in every single debut from FA Cup, to EPL, to Europa to UCL, to England. He wasn't Lucky to keep his place despite competing with almost 300m of talent for a place in the starting line-up.
Nah luck had nothing to do with it. He may have been unknown to you, but he wasn't unknown to the coaches that suggested him to LVG. They don't just pick any fool from the academy and give him jersey and a seat on the team bus. That's not thr way it works.
It reminds of something Gary Lineker said. He said that many times he would score and the commentator would say "right place at the right time". Gary said nah nigga, I made that run a 100 times already in that game, I wasn't at the right place at the right time - it wasn't luck. I kept running to the right position because I knew sooner or later the chance would come...and I would take my chance.
You just didn't know his name, but trust me Rashford was ready for this. He's always been ready. And he for a talent like that, there is no way your time won't come... Mate, there's no human with a working brain, even one with the strongest type of prejudice will say the emboldened. I never implied implicitly or explicitly the emboldened words. What Rashford has achieved so far is not on luck, but his first chance, his first big break was on luck. I don't see why this an argument. Rashford WASN'T EVEN OUR 4TH CHOICE STRIKER that season. When coaches usually give chances to fringe or youth players, it always come in Carling Cup and pre-seasons, Rashford was not in the squad in both occasions. If he managed to make one or two of those squads, he didn't get a sniff at a playing time. Rashford got his FIRST chance as a reserve player in Yorupa league. I don't think you understand the condition here. This wasn't a dead rubber match where we needed fringe players or reserves. This was a KNOCK-OUT match where our progression was at risk and an unknown RESERVE player was chosen ahead of 4 striker AHEAD OF HIM? C'mon Nihilist!! You mean Rashford was so talented and good he BENCHED 4 FIT strikers to start such a game? Without INJURIES and loan to our strikers, Rashford would never have started that match. I mean, he wasn't even brought in as would normally be done when giving a reserve a chance, he started the match. If you think Rashford wasn't lucky that injuries affected our strike force, then let's forget it. We would never agree with each other. |

Ibime: Musonda did very well on loan at Betis. One of, if not the best young winger in Spain in the first year.
2nd year, he ran into a pragmatic gaffer in Gus Poyet that wants agberos not footballers, and that was compounded by injuries. This can be accused as the reason why Conte doesn't rate him highly yet. The benching by Poyet and his injuries limited his playing time and didn't do enough to convince Conte. But with Christensen, he's hardly injured, competing even in UCL and did enough to convince Conte to give him more chances. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by sinizia: 2:43pm On Oct 10, 2017 |
Nihilist: Rashford scored in every single debut. You need to understand the gravity of what that boy did before you say he was given repeated chances.
He bagged a brace first debut. A few days later on his second debut he gave them another 2.
Now he's benching a 50m player.
This isn't somebody that was given repeated chances. He was given just 1. The rest he demanded. I'm not underestimating what Rashford did to get to his current state. Out of all the youths LvG gave a chance, only Rashford and maybe Lingard exceled. But what I'm trying to point out is that Rashford was unknown before he got the chance, before he proved what a great player he is. Angel Gomes currently has more hype than Rashford when he's his age. United are fighting currently to keep him off the claws of Barca. That's what I'm pointing out. Rashford got a chance when we had USELESS STRIKE FORCE. Rashford got more than one chances. If Rashford was in the era of young Rooney, Tevez and Co, after scoring against that lowly rated Midget Land abi wetin be their name, he'll back to the bench!! This is an undeniable fact. Who did Rashford had to fight with during LvG's era? An aging Rooney? James Wilson? Keane? Just take a look at the wastemen LvG hinged his hope on after pursuing Falcao, Chicharito, Van Persie and Co. Our strike force was shitty. Martial was even moved to the wings. So once Rashford scored, he's our only other option after declining Rooney and he's good enough to take his chances. I respect his talent, but the condition he came into helped his course. |

Not why musonda could not get into gus poyets dead side with no good players in Spain? But rashford! To be honest, though, Musonda has not done well when he's put on loan to Betis. He didn't do enough to warrant Conte giving him much chances like he's done for Chritensen. Musonda isn't yet better than Willian, neither has he done anything to push his case across. He needs more chances and when he gets them, he needs to make it count. Conte doesn't give chance to anyhow youths, only proven youths or youths with supreme talents like Pogba and Co. Musonda should stop whyning publicly and wait for his chances. |

You are so desperate to make a point that does not even exist ..abeg go and use your google....read up on the opinions of our past legends, coaches, made men in the game and his past coaches who have all given glowing appraisals about rashford not only when he was in the reserves but even as a school boy! After you do that then read all my posts again and then gain some perspective! All those "glowing appraisals" came AFTER Rashford's exploits. How many came BEFORE his exploits? Rashford wasn't a renowned talent that made rumor mills of tabloids before his fame. He's LUCKY to be in the situation that presented him with the chances he got, but kudos to him for grabbing it with both hands cos many footballers would've blown the chances. |

funlord: Rashford he scored twice in both his first-team debut (UEFA Europa League) after the warm-up injury of striker Anthony Martial and in his first Premier League match in February 2016 (against Arsenal). He also scored in his first Manchester derby match, his first League Cup match and his first UEFA Champions League match.
Rashford scored on his England debut in May 2016, becoming the youngest English player to score in his first senior international match. He was also selected for UEFA Euro 2016.
This all came after doing his thing in the reserves! But this is rubbish to a shekpite! You're totally missing the point. You're grossly missing Diggz's point. What you listed is what Rashford had achieved AFTER he'd been given a chance REPEATEDLY to prove himself. BEFORE Rashford blew up, there's no hype surrounding him, at least not that I or numerous United fans all over the world can think of. Angel Gomes had 100% more hype at his stage currently than Rashford ever had. Rashford was TOTALLY unknown before his success story. Rashford's case is the kind of happening that comes out once in a blue moon. He didn't even go on loan like Tammy Abraham and achieved something before he blew up. He's extremely lucky and blessed to have stumbled upon such an opportunity. Injuries happened to our first team attackers, and even the likes of Wilson that LvG could've called up to replace Rooney weren't around and LvG OUT OF NO OTHER CHOICE turned to Rashford, not coz he's hyped high in our reserves. It's basically a case of no other choice and the rest is history. You can't compare Musonda's case with Rashford. If Rashford was in the era of young Rooney, Tevez and Ororo, it'll take the highest form of talent and otumokpo for him to break through without going on loan. Breaking through in a top club is very hard to come by. Rashford was lucky FIRSTLY, then he took his chances and never looked back. Musonda so far, hasn't gotten the repeated chances Rashford got, and I don't blame him for that. He's to be given chances like Rashford and if he flops then you can blame him. I don't blame Conte too, at a big club the coaches are at extreme pressure to win and not give chances to youth which could backfire. |

weedtaker: opposite opposite opposite
kDb might be on par with mata
herrera is not just slightly but wayyyyyy better than kante, jesus christ is it bcuz of the league titles or what?? the stats alongside performance are there for all to see.ffs.
as for that mbappe dude i haven't watch enough of him to know wassup na only highlight i de see, though i checked their stats and rashford seems to be doing better in a tougher league,
people also tend to point out his stat at monaco forgetting that he plays as a striker without pressure while the other the plays wingback, i think dis season will be a better one to know who the better player is since both are being played as wingforwards. I beg to differ. See, when I say player A is better than player B, it doesn't mean that player B is inferior or a bad player. If I say Messi is better than Neymar, it doesn't make Neymar an inferior player. IMHO, Hererra is not better than Kante from what I've watched countless times. Herrera is better than Kante offensively because Hererra wasn't even a DM to start with. He's more attack-minded than Kante who's more of a DM than AM. I respect Hererra so much for being converted to a DM and still performing solidly there for us. But based on defensive duties, generally, I'll go with Kante. Stats won't give me everything I need in a match. I've seen both play and I've concluded so far, Kante is better. Kante's energy is exceptional; this guy can tackle, intercept, make sweet short passes and still be able to cover much distance without slowing down. Against Atletico, that dwarf was everywhere. He covered the pitch from the midfield upwards. Chasing and running. Pushing Atletico players back. From wings to CM to DM, he was even chasing them up to their 18-yard box and was never tired. Like I said on the Shekpe thread, at a point I didn't know his position coz he was everywhere. I've not seen someone so energetic as Kante since the days of Ji Sung Park. Without any intention of disrespect or under-appreciation whatsoever to Hererra, I believe Kante is better. But then opinions differ, so maybe you see it the other way. Edited: Also, last season Dopejemi posted their stats and you could see Hererra besting him on a category and Kante besting Hererra on another category. Since their stats are similar, I made my judgement based on what I've seen both ninjas do on the field and concluded that Kante is better. I might not argue with you if you say Hererra is "better" than Kante, but saying "wayyyyyyy better" is what I find totally wrong. |

I share the same sentiments with this writer from F365 totally. When i saw that Fellaini would be starting ahead of Herrera against Crystal palace i got very upset with Mourinho. I thought how on earth is Fellaini a better stand in for Pogba than Herrera. i started hoping his recent injury would act up again in the first five minutes so he can be replaced. Then he went on and grabbed a 2 goal man of the match performance.
Similar stuff happened against Basel when Pogba got injured and Fellaini got the nod ahead of Herrera and i was livid, but he went on to open the scoring in that match. I am never comfortable watching a Man Utd match where Fellaini is in midfield even though since the beginning of the year he has proved me wrong almost every time. But despite all this i still dont think Fellaini should be starting ahead of Herrera.
Fellaini to me is a really good header of the ball and not much else. The game against Southampton proves that against an organized midfield we would always struggle without the qualities of Pogba or Herrera in Midfield. I hope Mourinho realizes this and i would not want him to play Fellaini against LIverpool cos i would hate for him to learn the hard way.
Fellaini can undoubtedly be a useful member of the squad maybe when we are chasing a goal late in the game but for God’s sake he shouldnt be starting high profile matches when we have Herrera on the bench. If its true as was reported that Mourinho had a falling out with Herrera late last season i hope he can put sentiments aside. I would hate for us to loose points because of his stubborness.
But then again maybe he plays Fellaini against Liverpool and he proves to be the match winner and prove me wrong again. |
