Lots of us don't consider yourselves to be teachers. But, if we look deeply, we would find that we teach several times a day! From showing our siblings how to do X, or our friends how to use Y, and even strangers to get to Z! Teaching is amongst the most primal and natural things in the world - we even taught before we could talk! YET, we are afraid to identify as teachers. Whether you teach painting, programming, calligraphy or marketing, no matter if your medium is blog posts, IG, Snapchat, Youtube videos or interpretative dance — if people learn from you, you are a teacher.

So, why is that important you may ask? Well, did you know that since COVID started, more and more people are flocking online to learn new skills? And people who are willing to teach any skill online are making millions - infact, they even make money while they sleep, as they only need to create the teaching materials once and students just keep buying and using the same materials!

No need for long story, if you are eager to get started here is something I put together to help with that: -> LINK

Nairaland / General / #EndSARS: Why Is SARS Criminalizing Our Hustle? by Sintame: 4:06am On Oct 11, 2020
With the government failing us, Nigerian youths have said hello to the "Hustle Economy". Skilled youths with diverse skills that include programming, teaching, cooking, dancing, etc are turning to online platforms like Patreon, Udemy, GidiCoach to make honest income from our knowledge, experience & skills.

Can we say it's because these rouge police/SARS don't understand the online platforms, and how one can make honest money online that's why they are here criminalizing it?

njoryor:

Let me attempt to answer some of the questions;

1. Nddc did say one must attend any particular schools. But it has partnership agreement with som uk schools , so applying to these schools will result in speedy issuance of admission and CAS also there's a reduction in fees for nddc scholars in schools.

2. The award amount is just $30k and you get it when you arrive the institution of your choice. they'll pay it into your school account number and deposit the remaining in your foreign account u will open on arrival in that country. so u fund your flight fares.

3. if your school fees is more than 30k its upto u to fund the remaining balance or u can simply change school.

4. there's a snag here. They actually said u can defer till September "15 when they were talking but on issuing the letter one sees that "you forfeit this scholarship after 6 months if not used". But afterwards they announced that one can come to their office for a fresh letter as the one they've just issued would have expired by September 2015.

So one can decode that they're expecting us all to leave in January 2015.

I hope this few answers help.

Thanks njoryor for you detailed reply.

Just to clarify one of your points; did they say how scholars should contact them after obtaining another admission for January? I don't think several trips to their office is ideal.

Hi everyone,
for those of you who attended the orientation today, can you please brief us on what the next step should be?
besides the documents we were asked to bring, did they ask to collect account numbers for the school or would they be writing a cheque?
I wasn't able to attend, but i just need to know the orientation was about.
Thank you.

It would be great if those that attended can brief the house on what was said. At least it would help dispel rumors. I am interested in knowing the following:

1. Did NDDC specify that they would ONLY sponsor people to certain schools?

2. What does the award cover? Does it cover for accommodation, living expenses, etc. (Will accommodation, living expenses, etc be part of the $30,000 or separate?) Does NDDC pay for flight ticket to-and-fro?

3. What happens if the school fees of your school is more than $30000?

4. Is there a time frame in which one must use the scholarship? Can people whose schools have withdrawn their admission (because they didnt pay before the deadline) use this year's award for next year's (sept 2015) admission?

5. Please feel free to provide other info you think anyone should care about.

Thanks for sharing.

You'd come back baba. Attend, pick up your letter, submit it to the school, NDDC will pay and the school will refund it back to your account.

I'm wondering if it's at this briefing/orientation meeting (Nov 5) that award letters would be issued. Or will awardees have to attend another award ceremony sometime later? Any idea?

Hi folks,

Still on the matter.

I have recently taken the New GRE. Official scores turned out weird; actual scores turned out less than estimates given on test day. Now, i just dont know how to interprete my score. My profile goes thus:

CGPA - 4.85/5.00
V - 160/170
Q - 161/170
AWA - 4.0/6.0

I'm applying to the top Engineering grad programmes in the US (Stanford and the likes). I'm also considering U.K, but have started the process.

Can anyone (especially those of you already studying in US grad schools) tell how these new scores are viewed by admission committees vis-a-vis the old scoring system, and what the general averages appear to be for bright engineering grads from US schools.

Thanks.

PS: SEFAGO, cezeozue, et al. your comments are welcome.

SEFAGO:

No link exactly, just an observation.

I dont know if you are doing Masters or PhD though- it would be great if most of you gave some sort of clarification. They also have limited funding for international students and would prefer students with very strong backgrounds both academically and in terms of research.

But you could try if you want.

I want to do an MSc leading to a Phd.

Its easier to pass through a needle than getting into Berkeley for a PhD in engineering straight from Naija. Cross it out, Try Georgia Tech, Austin et al.

Thanks for your expose'. It's been very enlightening. But can you elaborate on the above statement?

Yes. That was what I meant. I doubt that it is counter-productive especially if your email demonstrates interest and a firm understanding in their work.

O.k.

But does that mean that all the Profs sit on the admission panels?
