Hey guys, it's been a long time. I got unconditional admission in three out of the four petroleum engineering programs I applied to but none came with financial assistance. The breakdown:

My Profile:
Petroleum Engineering CGPA: 3.9 (Federal University of Tech Owerri)
GRE: Q740, V650, AWA 4.0.
TOEFL: 109 (R28, W29, S23, L29)
Experience: Internships from Shell, Exxon currently work as analyst in a bank for 1yr plus.
Will post my SOP after the visa process.

Applied To:
Colorado School of Mines (Admitted)
Louisiana State University (Rejected: they said their dept was small and encouraged me to re-apply)
New Mexico Tech (Admitted)
University of Houston (Admitted)

My Choice:
Although CSM and NM Tech are on the Top 10 of the Petro rankings, I chose Houston over them because it's the most affordable, has excellent professors with extensive industry experience, has a diverse curriculum with involvement in business, energy finance and law, and most importantly because of its location in Energy capital of the USA. Internships and part time gigs will be more available, u can even transfer to UT or Texas A&M if you want. Sincerely, UH is the place to be.

I appreciate the opportunity to have shared with some of the most motivated Nigerians here on this thread. Thanks guys.""

Where are the last year's petroleum engr admits students (Bebure, Godeagle and co) of this great thread? We need your inputs on life with your chose schools and the program, this would help alot of us getting more than one admits from US schs to make the right choice.

So please show up and drop your 2cents!

I am getting tired with this processing. Imagine, I applied to about 7schools for PhD in Economics, only one gave me admission into their PhD program while 2 others gave me admission to their Masters program yet without funding. The only school I applied to for funding wrote me yesterday informing me that they are considering me for a position working in their tutoring center. However, she claimed she is getting fustrated as the paper work for my application is yet to be received from the graduate school as they claim that it takes a while to verify documents from Nigeria. I only pray they do the needful on time so that they do not shatter my last hope for funding.
Did anyone experience similar situation as mine.
Re: Preparing for GRE by cezeozue: 4:41pm On Apr 27, 2011
@gboyegaD: If its any consolation to you, I am still chasing funding up and down all over MIT, and I am not giving up till I get funding and you shouldn't either.
Re: Preparing for GRE by GboyegaD(m): 6:17pm On Apr 27, 2011
@Cezeozue,
Thanks a lot. I am seriously pressing on University of North Texas because they already confirmed to me that they are considering me for tutoring in the help lab and that all they are waiting for is the paperwork of my application from the Graduate School. I have called the graduate school and after supplying my student ID I was informed that my file is complete and it should be evaluated within the next 3 to 7days. I will keep following up with my program cordinators. I will keep you posted as I get updates. Together this fall, we will be in the USA as graduate students. I intend using UNT as a stepping stone to attending one of the top 10schools for my doctorate.

@GboyegaD
I almost put in an application for Mathematics/Computational sth in UNT for Spring 2011 with same intentions as you but I figured out I wouldnt want to derail from my petroleum engineering path, perhaps I didnt get their response on TA/RA as the program coordinator or so was on leave or sth. Success bro with funding, UNT is a great school.

@ceze my friend,
Up till now? getting funding nor easy oh,
I thought I was the only one oh cos the UTulsa Prof. they asked me to contact hasnt made/communicated any decision to me till now, even after signing one MS/PhD(Research) commitment form that would bind me wif him for 5yrs.
Well, my mind nor dey der agn, as I'm beginning to evaluate my priorities and to put up the funding(N3-4m) for MS.

Dis UNT people are getting me and my Graduate Program coordinator frustrated. The woman said I should start bombarding them with mails until my file is forwarded as she is yet to get it. I called international office and was told that they are expecting the evaluation before Friday as it takes 3 to 4weeks to get transcripts evaluated. They said also that it is afterwards that the form will be sent to graduate school before it leaves for the department. I truly cannot wait to get back to school and I pray and hope it should be this year.

I advise you get a prepaid credit card yourself, which wud save you about N5-9k for the GRE reg.,perhaps, u'd need the credit card to pay for your app fees. So its better to get it now than use First logic's service.IMO

Sorry guys if I am digressing from the original topic but I was wondering if anyone here has used or have an idea about how Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) evaluates Nigerian degrees. I'm looking to do a credential evaluation with them but I hear their evaluation reduces one's GPA unfairly.

Anyone with experience?

Hey peeps, It's been great sharing ideas with some of the best minds of this thread, I ve received my I-20 and I am proceeding to the "USA(Student) Visa Enquiries" thread, So I may not be regular on this thread.

To my fellow Fall 2011, Whats happening? This GRE and school App/decision stage has been awesome. Its been great exchanging info and ideas with you (ceze, tabarita,lailai,superbrain etc) but its important we don't loose sight of our dreams, so lets go to the next stage together- Visa Processing.

New Fall 2011 admitted guys like Physical and co that I'm yet to get your email/YIM, hit me up on my dummy email - ghummer365@gmail.com as the next stage is very very crucial to achieving our dream of yankee education. lets share ideas and encouragement about the whole embassy process.

Success to all GRE and Fall 2012 Applicants!

I just called my Graduate Program Coordinator who informed me that she is yet to receive my application forms. However, she said I should not be discouraged that it would work out. I know that is the message I need for now. I will keep following up with the International Office and Graduate School.

Dear friends,
It is nice being with you guys on this forum reading and sharing ideas.
I got a mail from my graduate program coordinator informing me of my admission status. A copy of the mail is pasted below:

Subject: UNT economics program

Hi Mr. ******,
I just wanted to let you know I processed your admission today. I also have reviewed your transcript and have put you forward for a position as an academic assistant beginning in the fall. Our formal offer will follow shortly, and I will e-mail it to you as well so that you get it as quickly as possible. I hope this starts your week off well! I know I’m much happier having been able to FINALLY process this application. I apologize for the delays. International applicants sometimes have to be much more patient than others. I appreciate your understanding!

Have a great day!
Best regards,
Dr. Hauge

To all those who encouraged me (myforumid, cezeozue & co.), I really want to say a very big thank you and I know God will help us attain our dreams and aspirations. For me, I know my dream of becoming a professor is fast coming to reality.
See you guys at the VISA section once I receive my I 20.
