Politics / Tinubu Government Did Not Lie About Fuel Subsidies - Bayo Onanuga by sirklin(m): 10:26pm On Sep 03
I have read a series of articles attacking the Federal Government for not telling the truth about fuel subsidy payments, following NNPC Limited's admittance it was owing suppliers some $6 billion.

Some of the stories have been written with relish, as the authors believed they have uncovered some scoops.

The truth is that there is no discovery. No lie uncovered. The government has been faithful to its policy that it was no longer going to pay fuel subsidies since President Tinubu announced the deregulation of the PMS sector on 29 May 2023. Since then, subsidy provisions have disappeared from the budget. It was not in the Supplementary budget of 2023, not in the 2024 budget and the amended 2024 budget.

So the giddy headlines about the so-called unraveling of the Tinubu government’s subsidy payment; and return of subsidy were not justifiable.

Rather what has unravelled was the commendable disposition of the oil company owned by all the tiers of government to absorb the rising costs of petrol at the pump and protect the Nigerian consumer. That generous disposition by NNPC Limited, backed by a compassionate president unwilling to let the people suffer, has been under threat for months, because of the rising cost of crude and the devalued Naira.

The NNPC cried out recently because it can no longer sustain the price differential on its balance sheet without becoming insolvent. The situation has greater implications for the ability of the three tiers of government to function as the NNPC has failed to pay into the Federation Account, the money that should go to the government.

There are no easy choices. Something must be done to make NNPC survive, keep the engines of government running and petrol flowing at the pumps. That is the scenario that is unfolding and the game changer and big relief giver may well be the Dangote refinery and other local refineries which will become the fuel suppliers to the local market. When Dangote Refinery and other refineries, including government owned Port Harcourt Refinery, come fully on stream, our country and economy will benefit on all fronts. There will be many good paying jobs that will be created along the value-chain. There will also be a drop in the huge demand for foreign exchange to import petroleum products.

The military is meant to collaborate with the police whose job is an internal affair but who is to speak out?

Our government and politicians know that Nigerians have short term memories. If we don't, what in the name of Bulabah will someone consider APC after years of untold hardship on the country? Even if they promised you heaven on earth, they should be done away with. We rather have a cow are president than anything they have to offer

More truths will be reveals on the economic state of the country but we will still have those who will want to defend this ineptitude

Dangote refinery was celebrated like it was next big thing after garri. Dignitaries graced the occasion. Buhari removed subsidy to make sure his refinery thrive.

Innoson has been producing cars. Call it assembled cars but it was done in Nigeria. FG that championed made in Nigeria has never patronised Innoson because he is from a particular tribe they don't wish to grow.

Politics / I Love My People, But Nigeria Is Very Corrupt – Israel Adesanya by sirklin(m): 3:28pm On Apr 12, 2023
Nigeria-born UFC fighter, Israel Adesanya has expressed his love for his fellow Nigerians.

The mixed martial artist, however, noted that the country is a ‘very corrupt place’.

The ‘stylebender’ said this while speaking on a Hotboxin podcast.

Adesanya added that government and some of its people are always looking for ways to siphon money from the country’s coffers and swindle others of their money.

He said, “There is a lot of red tape in Nigeria. Nigeria is a very corrupt place. I love my people, but it is just that the government, everyone is finding ways to siphon money.”

The 33-year-old on Sunday knocked out old rival Alex Pereira to reclaim the middleweight crown at UFC 287 in Miami.

Politics / We Hope For A Better Nigeria by sirklin(m): 12:00pm On Feb 28, 2023
Football banter and taunts has eaten deep into the fabrics of our sensibility making us assume every opportunity is for banter and taunts.

All we pray for, all the struggle is to see a better Nigeria which we will be proud of. Buhari's 8 years have not been favorable to us all whether you voted him or not. Millions have died during the administration. Some business crumbled. Most workers laid off.

Regardless of who won the election, through rigging or whatever let's unitedly hold them accountable. They have made countless promises. Let's hold them to fulfil it.

If we continue to taunt each other because their preferred candidate didn't win, our politicians will continue to rob us blind. Most who voted Buhari didn't make any progress in their lives whereas some of those who didn't smiled to the banks.
Politics / Re: It Is Time Igbos Prioritize Biafra Over Nigeria. by sirklin(m): 11:51am On Feb 28, 2023
It has always been our mistake. Thinking we need Biafra after we lost an election only to come back after 4 years to lose again.
Igbos should work on strengthening our voting power. We can have our own in power with 400k votes. There should be massive sensitization for every Igbo above the age of 18 to get a PVC no matter where you reside.
