It appears to me, that traditions and taboos in Africa where designed out of ignorance, fear and illiteracy. But what baffles me is how educated people actually decide to respect and worship ignorant and illiterate traditions. You will even see a so called educated Benin indigene insulting others who dare challenge the barbaric and silly tradition. In 21 century, when other countries are getting rid of taboos that are discovered to be false, in Africa the reverse is the case. we have Obas and so called Kings that are custodians of these ancient instrument of ignorance and fear as a weapon of control and intimidation.

What do we call a person who tells others not to use umbrella when it rains, and he is the only one to use umbrella ?

What do you call a person who doesnt allow his wives (note 'wives') to embrace any other man, not even her own father and brother ? Is that not a mark that he is afraid that a more capable man can take his wives ?

When Africa is ready to accept knowledge and shun tradition and religion, we will invent something better than foo-foo and okro soup.

The lesson all Nigerians should learn from this mess are:

1. There is absolutely no need talking with your spouse on social media for the whole world to see. You guys see each other, talk to yourselves directly.

2. Marriage is never a ticket to happiness, never let anyone make you feel less important if you are not married.

3. Never date someone for over a decade, you can never know all about someone. Even couples that have been married for over 2 decades still learn new things about themselves - You will know the first 3 months if this is your person or not.

4. Never trust yourself in choosing your spouse. Depend on God, depend on that still small voice. Only God knows the deepest part of a man's/woman's heart.

5. Not everyone who posts romantic adventures with their spouses on social media are happy. Most times it is a front. Don't be depressed and think your life sucks because you are not getting the type of vacations and gifts being paraded on social media.

Above all, when your relationship/marriage crashes like it did for sweet Toke, never give up. Life has its ups and downs. With persistence, focus and a heart with love, you will surely find love and happiness again, and God will certainly fix your brokenness.

Why spend the meagre salary you earn after working for 30 days like a donkey on a girl? She tells you she needs a phone, you struggle to buy it! She says she needs money for hair, you struggle to give her! She tells you she needs to get a nice bag or pair of shoes she saw at a boutique, you struggle to give her! Be rest assured that you will continue to struggle endlessly in your life if you don't desist from such shameful and wasteful act! If you want to know the extent to which materialism has eaten into this so-called love, watch even the younger girls of today! Even those that are below 21 or 22 will quickly run away from you if you can't be giving her upkeep money, money for hair and phone, etc The mature ones? If you don't live comfortably well, sorry, you are on your own!!! Except for those village girls that are not exposed...but seriously, not in the cities of Nigeria.

Before you criticize me on the fact that these women need to live a comfortable life by hanging out with only comfortable dudes, read the topic again! It is surely the same reason why I said young struggling men should forget about love and focus on their lives!!! When you are comfortable, you can have the resources to sustain your relationship because no matter how a woman 'loves' you, the 'love' must surely die if there's no finance to sustain it!
