PoliticsRe: Oshiomhole Administration Is A Year Old by sjeezy8: 7:19pm On Nov 04, 2009
I think people should remember Oshiomhole's administration was FILLED with PDP members. How far can a govenor or even president get if ALL in his administration is against him? The guy stated in an Interview its been difficult to pass certain agendas because they werent being approved by the state Govt who were majority pdp.

I dont know why folks like to compete Wole Soyinka is on his own level, so is the other guy. But interms of who has done things unselfishly Wole Soyinka by far.
Folks should stop comparin tribes and what not, its getting old. I cant tell you about igbo history cause i dont know shit about it. So why should a non yoruba person, try to tell a yoruba person about yoruba history? dem no be the same level.

I have no problem with igbos but all this bigger chest nonsense is ridiculous. Yorubas are on their own and always have been, cant compare their history to others because before "Nigeria" Yorubas were not thinking of any other tribe or region(MANY feel the same way).
PoliticsRe: Yoruba Community Alleges Marginalisation In Enugu by sjeezy8: 11:37pm On Nov 03, 2009
The fact remains the same the west had its own development, without Oil money and migration of outsiders.

And from your same quote lets pick out some points:

Unless Oduduwa invented it, it isn't traditional Yoruba architecture otherwise Calabar people can claim cement as a traditional material for their buildings. Adding to that you should note the difference betwerrn influence and invention. The Nago were influenced by their white masters
Ok Great all of Nigeria was influnced by whites
I dont know sha but some folks know Nigerian history but not Lagos or abeokuta history.
Yoruba history (esp Lagos and Abeokuta) in terms of education and development differs from the rest of Nigeria.
Calabar can create what ever they like congrats, there is no competition and never has been.
PoliticsRe: Yoruba Community Alleges Marginalisation In Enugu by sjeezy8: 11:13pm On Nov 03, 2009
I'm guessing thats typical Yoruba architecture, is that a right guess?
actually it does lol grin
In 1851, the British came in to stop the slave trade by talking to the Oba of Lagos. The talks yielded no particular result. It was not until 1861 that Lagos Island was taken over by the British crown.

The freed slaves from Brazil were coming back to their homeland: Lagos Island. History shows that some of the slaves that came back to settle in Lagos were not from Lagos Island. Most of the freed slaves left Brazil because they were given the option of tax exclusion if they can leave the country. They brought back with them Brazilian names such as Salvador, Da Silva, Da Rocha to mention a few.

They also brought back skills and designs for building structures similar to those in Rio. The freed slaves trained as carpenters, cabinet makers, masons and bricklayers in Brazil. Campos square was the centre of settlement for most of the freed slaves. The Brazilian design was inherited from the Portuguese who were living in Brazil until 1814 when there was a separation and both became different colonies. The design of using brick and plaster was part of the Portuguese style.
Amaros in Lagos [edit] Amaros in Lagos
The Amaros, who were sometimes called Nago in Brazil (Nago, indicates Yoruba ethnicity) were liberated slaves from Brazil and Cuba. Returnees from Brazil and their current day descendants were and are more commonly called "Agudas". They went to the New World as slaves from different sub-ethnic and ethnic backgrounds but approached relationships among themselves as equals. They came back to Nigeria, principally to re-connect with their fatherland.  It should be remembered that some of the Agudas were Muslims.

The ex-slaves were notably technically skilled artisans and were known for the distinctive Brazilian architecture built in their settlements and later in the Lagos environs. During the time, modern European architecture was not only meant to be a nice abode but also a dominating advertisement to show Africans of a different style and culture.[8] However, in due time, the Brazilian style emerged as a viable alternative and modern style used by African contractors working on public and large private jobs such as the Holy Cross Cathedral in Lagos and the Mohammed Shitta Bey Mosque. The Brazilians introduced to Nigeria elaborate architectural designs, two story buildings and bungalows with stucco facades.

They will not get it, they will continue to fantasize that their land (which they proably haven't seen or won't go back to live in for at least ten years) is Dubai. I wonder why they will say that others are flocking to Lagos, yet they completely look past the fact that that is partly the reason why Lagos is successful in the first place. I don't know anywhere else that Nigerians, especially Igbo people do not go to in this world, yet these posters have taken the Eastern population in Lagos, who are there because all the wealth of the country is being poured into there, as a sign that the Yoruba are a superior race.

Before asking the Easterners to move from Lagos, why don't you first come back from the US and the UK and convince them to move, you will continue fantasizing about a superior Yoruba race while you stay in another mans country and stay the victim of discrimination! After you tell them to move, cut off all the income you get from the Niger Delta and all other Eastern states and see what Lagos will be.
This is not even a discrimination thing let all the people leave lagos as they did before during the war, their properties would be sold as usual. So it really makes no difference majority of people in Lagos dont pay taxes, so what do these people actual contribute to lagos? Its not any secret that all these scanty scanty shop keepers, dont pay taxes and sell illegal goods which are also non taxed. Lagos was once a specific place for the Elite, Most of whom were Yorubas because of location, middle class and other minor tribes. I wouldnt complain if it went back to that. Eko atlantic is privately funded to be like dubai and dubais population is NO WHERE NEAR LAGOS'. Igbos are OK nothing special. Without all these states, the West is still yorubaland so is Lagos, unless you want to cut it and carry it with you to the EAST.

All igbos arent the same I must admit. Just like I am here in Yankee for Uni, not making noise they should do the same while in the West.
These yorubas in enugu should keep quiet but since it happens in West to other tribes, i cant blame them.

Folks should return to their area if lagos no suit them. PH makes almost as much as Lagos with about half Lagos' population move and live their. They claim onishta and owerri are commercial cities better than the ones in the west. Go and live there plane reach all those places, Lagos is no more the capital . . . . . I dont see why some still flock to the West, there seems to be more in the East as they claim.

so lets speeed the process up

PoliticsRe: Fashola,whats All D Hype About by sjeezy8: 11:02pm On Nov 02, 2009
Pay your taxes as civilized people do and you'll see what the hype is about. All these Nigerians want good things but dont want to pay for anything. The areas that are most changed in Lagos are areas WITH THE HIGHEST TAXES.

SO PAY YOUR TAXES, AMERICA HAS TAXES, UK, EUROPE SOUTH AFRICA - Nigeria is no different if we want progress

Not only do they have poor maintenance culture but complete village mentality.

Owners of some of the illegal structures were seen trying to move away their valuables while most others were yet to make any move to vacate the right of way.Ministry of Works, Housing and Urban Development had issued the first eviction notices on 24 July, 2009, followed by a reminder on 3 August 2009.

The last notice given the trespassers a seven-day ultimatum was issued on 25 August 2009.According to the notices, by virtue of the concession agreement signed in May, Bi-Courtney "is to take full responsibility of the Expressway, the right of way and other properties along the corridor, " including all structures previously owned and managed by the Ministry.
When people try and clean up Nigerias image in terms of housing and development by knocking down illegal structures they label you a bad person. Like Fashola
Everyone can see the divide in who favors his governance and who doesnt. Paying your taxes and not having illegal housing is foreign and is objected by most Nigerians. Nigerians back home want all the good things but arent ready to pay for it.
