You know what, i support you in this motion. I blame Yoruba's for always being open and giving Igbo's especially opportunity in their land. They are never appreciated, always insulted by these same people. If you believe in one Nigeria so much, how many Yoruba's at that time were  given the same opportunity as Zik in the Eastern region? When you can show proof of this please come back. Igbo's are too greedy. Not satisfied with seats, they always want to take over the whole thing. Igbo's caused their own doom. Planning a silly coup and war, and rubbing it in Hausa's face. You know damn well that was a huge mistake. Now Yoruba's will never do that, everyone will keep quiet until the goal is achieved. We are not loud mouthed.

Actually you Yorubas betrayed Azikiwe who was a firm believer in one Nigeria. I am not a supporter of Azikiwe, but Awolowo getting other Yorubas not support this man and forcing Azikiwe to flee to the East is nonsense.

As everyone knows, Azikiwe was not a tribal chieftain. He was Pan-African. Why do you think we Igbos do not support the man?

Last time I checked, Yorubas are Nigerians. I am directing this to all non-Easterners. It does, matter if you are Yoruba, Hausa, Kanuri etc. However, many people in the East, not only Igbos are still bitter at Yorubas for what they see as cowardice from the Yoruba elite who did not keep their end of the bargain.

Plus, it is common knowledge how Yoruba obas went up to the North to thank the Emirs for not targetting their people in the pogroms.

For not protecting Eastern civilians in the north. You people need to understand that innocent Igbo civilians had nothing to do with this coup so why should they suffer? I don't understand that. Just, because a few Igbo officers decided to commit a coup, does not mean that the populace had anything to do with it. We Igbos believe in individuality.

And you cannot compare the American civil war with the Nigerian civil war. This was Americans v. Americans who were fighting due to states rights/slavery. They were basically the same people, settlers from the UK. In Nigeria, it was a tribe against other tribes. Igbos do not owe Nigeria anything. Maybe the individual officers, but not the Igbo populace.

NIGERIA owes the Igbo big time. No wonder Nigeria is hell. You ostracize your most progressive group and the country goes no where.

Did you know that not only Igbos were killed. I am part Ibibio and anyone who was from the East was killed in large numbers as well. And people wonder why many Igbos despise the Yorubas. With foolish comments like this. At least Wole Soyinka had the guts to admit that Nigeria was wrong for what they did to the Igbo poulace. Do you know how many Igbos were killed? It was higher than the amount of Tutsis that were killed in Rwanda. It was a genocide. No other group in Nigeria except the Tiv went through a genocide of this nature.

And finally, an apology from the Nigerian gov't for the crimes that committed against the Eastern populace and not protecting innocent Eastern civilians throughout the country.

Is that so much to ask for? Even Germany apologized to the Jews and they still have remembrance days for the fallen.

Thank you for the above post and also for the original post.

Nigeria will continue in the doldrums until the issues concerning the January 15, 1966 coup and the subsequent civil war are addressed. Meanwhile, every available statistics from sources within and outside Nigeria clearly show that the South East geopolitical zone is ahead of every other geopolitical zone in every index of human development, including education, wealth and health.

also, which genocide in tiv land? was it separate from the general one?

i read part of the guy's book somewhere- he means well but it's a bit hard following his main points.
