Do you a problem with reading historical books? Why not educate yourself first before attempting to post rubbish in a public forum. You have regurgitated this nonsense about Fulani conquering Yoruba land and I have often ignored it but its time I set you straight.

Fulani never conquered any part of Yorubaland. Afonja had an issue with Alaafin Aole and sent a calabash to the Alaafin signifying that he no longer respected his rule. In 1817, Afonja then invited a muslim scholar, Alimi, to Ilorin ostensibly to fortify himself with more charms. At this point, even with Ilorin, an out post town of the Oyo empire, isolated from the rest the rest of the empire, the Fulani did not attack Ilorin. In 1823, Alimi died and Abdulsalam became his successor. Abdusalam then sent for the Caliphate flag and Ilorin came under the Emirate of Gwandu. So the Fulani never waged a battle to take Ilorin. Afonja was just replaced in a palace coup.

The Oyo empire was unable to retake Ilorin for a number of reasons. Oyo had become so big that there were several factions in the Empire which resulted in everyone fighting their own corner rather than external enemies. It was this issue which led to the internecine wars in Yorubaland, which consequently gave rise to several empires, Ijebu, Ibadan, Egba, amongst them. Following the fall of the Oyo empire, the Ibadan empire rose and had its expansionist wars between 1840 and 1879 (I think). The invading Fulani army was defeated at Osogbo in 1840. After the Fulanis were defeated at Osogbo, the Ekitis teamed up with the Ibadan empire to drive out the Fulani from Ilorin but this was stopped by the British for obvious reasons.

The only British involvement occured when British governor of the Lagos Protectorate, Sir Gilbert Carter, forced the warring empires to settle their differences and form a pan-yoruba group.
