Are you even conversant with lagos and nigeria as a whole to make this assertion
So all the beggars in other parts of nigeria do so out of 'their demolished houses'? obviously they are the ones who set up shanty towns which are illegal stop asking stupid question |

asha 80: Can you pro vide any law backing it? The Land Use Act of 1978 vests all lands in the hands of the Government and does not allow for the private ownership of land by individuals or corporations. According to the Act, the Governor of each state has the power to allocate urban land, and local area councils have the power to allocate rural land. The Land Use Act makes it illegal for indigenes to allocate land without prior government approval. However, this has seldom been enforced. Hundreds of thousands of people live in these informal settlements because they do not have access to affordable housing in the formal market within a reasonable distance to their place of employment. More than 12,000 people have been forcibly evicted from their homes in Lagos since January 2005. The most recent of these evictions occurred in April 2006 when the State Task Force on Environment demolished over 300 homes at Ogunbiyi village in Ikeja, Lagos, leaving 3,000 people homeless. Approximately 3000 residents of the slum community of Makoko were evicted in April 2005. The residents were not given prior notice of the planned evictions and were not provided with alternative housing or compensation for the destruction of their homes. The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development demolished hundreds of homes in Aboru Abesan, Ikeja, rendering 6,000 people in January 2005. |

mikeansy: What you guys don't understand is that Ibrahim Shekarua and his Hisbah Army will as well have the right to round up non-indegenes in Kano and dump them wherever he likes.
Who defines the norms of any society other than the constitution? who decides what is and what is'nt acceptable? other than the constitution?
When this escalates, folks should bear withness that Fashola Started it.
No society treats its weak like Asylum seekers. Only in Nigeria can you hear folks justifying such nonsense. I know there is a good chance these folks are not even Nigerians (But so long as that has not been established they can only be assumed to be Nigerians). But so long as we continue to shy away from the truths and debates that will set things straight, we have a duty to live with the Status Quo.
WHAT FASHOLA AND THE LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT ARE DOING IS CRIMINAL UNDER THE LAW. IT IS LEGAL WHAT DONT YOU UNDERSTAND |

Fashola has stated he wants TAX PAYERS and no shanty towns ( shack houses popping up out of nowhere). If you cant afford decent homes them you cant live in lagos. |
Politics › Re: Lagos “deports” 160 Northern Beggers by sjeezy8: 9:49pm On Aug 23, 2009 |
mikeansy: If people don't pay taxes you either fine them or jail them
If people put up illegal buildings you relocate them to a new home while detroying the illegal buildings
If people are lotering you take them to welfare homes
To relocate people to the middle of nowhere, where you don't even have jurisdiction without the consent of the local powers is illegal.
That is why they deportation powers all arround the world which most times are executed in agreement between the two Countries concerned. Yet in this case we are talking about Nigerians being ejected against their will and without a court order.
I am not particularly critical of what Fashola did, but its important to speak the truth. how can you fine someone who doesn't have proper funds to pay them? i agree with you but welfare homes for people who cant afford rent ? what investor will build homes for people who cant pay rent? what documentations do they have? |
Politics › Re: Lagos “deports” 160 Northern Beggers by sjeezy8: 9:37pm On Aug 23, 2009 |
mikeansy: Folks this issue is as complicated as Nigeria itself
As a country that claims to be one, every 'Nigerian' have the right to live where they like and the first reaction to this is that what Fashola has done is illegal under the law.
But as a guy who has lived in the North for one year during my service year, I have seen how people are willing to sabotage the boarders and allow non Nigerians from Niger Republic to come through the boarders and live amongst them. And most times these people tend to head further South which is why population is out of control in Nigeria. So from this point of view you can see that while Fashola's action may not be supported by the law, how else do you deal with a situation like this
But the lesson in the long run is that, Fashola is already practicing devolution on many fronts and I think other States should try to see how much devolved powers they can excersize.
We are supposed to be a Federal Republic and various States should begin to excersize there devolved powers. it was legal you cant live in lagos and not pay taxes. Pitching up shanty towns is illegal, loitering is illegal and that is what these people do. jail or leave |

Nigeria begins bitumen exploitation in Ondo State 07-02-05 Exploitation of the vast tarsand, otherwise known as bitumen, has started in Ondo State, with a promise that product from the mineral deposit would be experimented on some roads in the state. Air-Vice Marshall Dagash, while addressing the assembly of host communities at an open forum on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) held at Iju-Odo, Ondo State, said a number of roads consisting local, state and federal would be tarred, to ascertain the suitability of the product before offering it for sale to the outside world. The roads, which he said would be tarred in the next one month, would be a test ground for the progress the consortium has recorded in the exploitation of the hard mineral.
BEECON had carried out a lot of studies on the environment impact its operation could have on host communities, in line with the directive of the United States and "we obeyed this to avoid the mistake of the past," Dagash said. "We have learnt from experience of the environment degradation of the oil exploration and exploitation. In a move not to repeat the mistake, that is why we are here today. That is why we put together a team of consultants to assist us on the way to start on a solid foundation."
He spoke on the problems caused by oil exploitation in the Niger-Delta region and said, "we must not fall into that pit, more so when we are indigenous company." Dagash allayed the fear of the host communities on gas flaring, failure to pay compensation and insensitivity to the plight of the people.
Earlier, Chairman of the occasion and the Abodi of Ikaleland, Oba B.B. Faduyile, expressed joy that bitumen exploitation has commenced after much pessimism. He charged BEECON not to pay lip service to the welfare of the people and to avoid error of the oil areas. "You are coming to our area to take away our mineral and to assist our people. To enjoy this joint venture, we implore you to understand the operation of our communities," he said.
Present at the forum were, Professors E.A. Fayose, A. Adefila, Mrs Kofoloja Olugbesan, Chief C.O. Ikuejiminu and Dr Niyi Okunlola among others http://www.gasandoil.com/goc/news/nta50835.htm
I guess ondo people are also running away from ondo. Congrats but alot of rich ondo people live in Lagos so what is your point. Ondo state is damn near bigger than igbo land lol clown, so of course they can always migrate IN Ondo state. mind you ondo's population isn't 50 million lol clown |

So the people that leave around ikeja do not live around the industrial estate there?
Do you think before you type? ikeja is commercial so think before you reply Imo State has large quantities of Crude Oil and Gas deposits, which have not been fully exploited. Indeed investment opportunities abound in the areas of crude oil prospecting/exploration and production, establishment of oil refineries and petrochemical industries, establishment of mid-stream gas and fertilizer plants. - Imo A United States-based company, Nevada Petroleum Resources Limited is planning to build a refinery in Abia State at a cost of US$100 million.- Abia "South-Eastern Nigeria, which is mainly igboland, is endowed with abundant human and natural resources. agathamari: do you have any idea how many women in the us and england die every year from abortion ? how many abortion clinics are bombed every year in developed nations? ever notice how abortion comes up in every election and how the catholic church has said for the last 400 years that abortions are a sin? there are medications available from the red cross (yes here in Nigeria) that will prevent pregnancy when taked after rape. as far as babies with birth defects how much of that is because the babay actualy has a problem that will cuse dificulties in the child like missing limbs and how much is the parents being selfish and not wanting to be burdend by a baby with a problem like down syndrome/cp/md/scoliosis and the like? hmm the same clinics that give faulty HIV test and the same ones that transmitted aids through blood transfusions. Lol you're not serious and that is why Nigerians die of abortions which is a simple thing. Clinics being bombed in America isn't common so lets stop that nonsense. every year you say is a jokeCatholics are against abortion for religious reasons, one cant govern a country and base everything on religion. They will never have laws against abortion because its ones personal choice. Wise up if you dont like abortions dont get one but you can't stop someone else, its their personal choice. |

fayahsoul: Lagos is the smallest state yet has the largest population and GDP. What does that tell u?
With efficient technology and resettlement in the many vast underutilized fallow lands, Igboland can contain and sustain three times the igbo population.
So don't believe the hype. Im sure your're not familiar with the eroding land in the east, not to mention Biafra would be land locked, so you cant compare Lagos to Biafra. Lagos its overpopulated by FAR. The government is now asking folks to pack up and go back to their homeland if they cant afford lagos. Quality of EAST land is decreasing due to oil refineries, Gas plants and pollution. Which is why wealthy easterners move away from the east. |
