mrnatural: I responded earlier. I came here seeking for advice. I just lost my dad. I haven't seen my mother in almost 3 years. She needs the change of environment as i think it is going to help her get over the grief asap. I explained my current situation and my wife is sending out the invite to her. To come visit us. A friend i know, who is also in the same situation, his wife invited her mother in law and brother in law for their wedding and they gave them the visa. He was also undergoing AOS. My mother can't stay here forever because i still have very young sisters back home and they can't be left alone. Hopefully this is a tie back home. Her business is also back home and that's what we all survive on. I wanted my sisters to come along with her but then i was worried that they may deny all of them thinking they all want to immigrate or something. So please, any tip or advice on how to make this work? |

Hello Nairaland, It’s been a while since I last came on here. Almost 2 years. Well, I have a couple of questions to ask and I would appreciate your kind efforts to help me out. I’m currently in the USA undergoing AOS and I want to invite my mom for my wedding which is in December. My concern is if she would be given the visa. She has an interview scheduled already and i’m worried. She was supposed to come with my dad but he passed away 2 months back, so she will be coming alone. Is there any tips or things to pay attention to? My wife sent out the invitation letter to her, alongside other documentations like bank statements, international passports and all. Please help me my people, is wedding invitation a solid ground to be granted B1/B2 visa? Is there anything we should consider? Can my status in the US affect things? N.B. She will only be staying for 3 weeks. |

Hi my fellow Nairalanders, So I was the Ukraine student that came all the way down to renew my visa in Nigeria. I guess the DHL office in Abuja is quite ineffective. My passport has been laying still in their office for almost 10 days with my visa stamped. Like I was mad at them. I wasn't called neither was i sent any mail. I kept on calling the embassy and I was told to wait for the mail. While I tracked my passport online, it kept on showing your passport is still at the US embassy/consulate. When I tracked it using the ceac website, it has been showing issued since 28th of April and when I called the embassy, they told me to still wait till I hear from the DHL office. I just had to go their office after waiting for too long. I missed my flight back to school cause of their ish. I only got to realize that the Dropbox I did took only 4 working days. I still thank God for his mercies because it could have been worse. I am having my final exams in 2 weeks. What a risky thing I did. 2 Likes |

abujaniv: That's my regret. If I had known I would have gone for an interview because it takes just 2 working days. Before I did the Dropbox, I was originally told 2-3 working days as well. When I got to the DHL office I was told 4-7 working days and it's already 10 working days. Oh my days!!! |

I am a final year medical student studying outside Nigeria. I took the GRE in February and got a score of 288. Q- 144, V- 141, AWA- 3.0. Pretty low, I know. I wasn't really prepared for the exam, I took it after 1 month of preparation with magoosh. The problem here is that I don't think I can retake the exam any time soon this year because I have alot of other exams to take such as my final medical school exams, Nigeria's medical liscening exam, Toefl, Ielts and USMLE. The rest of this year is pretty booked for me. My plan after medical school is to go for my masters in health administration or public health, before I begin my residency in medicine. Please can anyone recommend any school that I can apply to with such GRE score? My total GPA after graduation should be around 4.8/5.0. And also, with this stats of mine do you think I would be able to get admission? Thanking you in advance for all your assistance and kind contributions. |

abujaniv: Thank you for your response abujaniv. Well I got my first visa in Nigeria in 2014. I thought about renewing my visa in Ukraine but I couldn't. Ustraveldocs in Ukraine states that one can only be liable for a renewal if only the applicant is a Ukrainian citizen or the person's visa was previously issued in Ukraine. Besides, as a Nigerian citizen, I have a stronger tie back home. A topic like this was being reviewed on this forum sometimes two years ago as to where is the best place to apply for a USA visa, your home country or your country of temporal residence. I believe one's home country is far better, compared to when you apply in a country whereby you are just a temporary resident. Just my own point of view. I have a lot of friends that were denied visa in Ukraine but came to nigeria, reapplied and got it. |

Hi house, I recently came to Nigeria to renew my USA B1/B2 visa all the way from Ukraine through Dropbox. I submitted since two weeks ago and I am yet to hear anything from the embassy or DHL I have called the embassy twice and I was told to wait. Now the issue on ground is, I am supposed to be back to school for my final exams this month and I have to leave Nigeria this week. Is there anyway I can get my passport back from the embassy with or without the visa? Because right now, I'm more than worried. I have been having sleepless nights and so on. Please is there anybody in the house that has had similar experience and please what do you suggest I do best? I have to be out of the country latest by Friday this week. Please help... All candid opinions are welcome. Gracias! |

Hello house, I am a final year medical student graduating in May this year. I am considering going to the US for a graduate program. I have been having difficulties in choosing whether I should go for Masters or PHD. As a medical doctor, which would you advice I go for? Secondly, my propose field is either in public health, community health or environmental health. In fact, any health related graduate program would suffice. Would any of you be so kind to provide me with a list of schools that I can apply to that guarantees funding? I've a pretty good GPA, would be taking my GRE next week. Any tips? N.B. I am currently in the US, Kansas city to be precise. I am here for an elective program in one of the hospitals. |

Ajibade105: Well, not really. Community health is a thesis based program while public health is a course based. Did you have a confirmed supervisor before applying into biostatistics? |

Hello Guys, Is there anyone applying to the University of Saskatchewan for fall 2016 for graduate studies? I applied to the MSc. in Community health and population. I just submitted my application today and my transcripts have been sent from the university i am currently studying in. I'm in my final year of medical school and i'm wondering what my chances of acceptance would be... I already got a supervisor who is willing to accept me. Any advice and thoughts on my application? Things to do and not to do... |

Greetings my people. "Make Una See Gbege" I am a final year medical student, and i recently applied to the MPH program at the University of Victoria. Can you imagine, it wasn't clearly stated on the site that the program is an Online one. after paying $144. Not only for me to call the school and get this shocker... Anyways, it's really my fault due to my lack of proper findings. My question is, this online program, do i still have to apply for a study visa? because me i don't understand the use of this program if i am not given a study visa. Although, the course states that "You'll complete the courses online in your own community and attend 3 on-campus experiences at the University of Victoria" Please what does this mean? Does this mean that i can still apply for a study visa or i go dey go school from my computer ? which is practically unreasonable for me to do. I can't go to school in my own comfort. It's impossible. Even the Medicine i dey do, na grace of God dey make me dey go classes and not give up. I know this sounds local and technology is moving fast these days. Please try to understand my plight. Your sincere and candid opinion is greatly respected and welcome. 1 Like |

montrealer: Thanks bro, I actually plan to apply for Masters in Public health But i realized that most schools in Canada do not give scholarship and someone on this forum advised that If funding is a really important factor, i should apply for an MSc Course (Health Sci, Community Health etc). It's thesis-based and i need to get a potential supervisor, who can avail funding. it's proving quite difficult for me so far. |

Hello NairaLanders, Please i need help, I have sent close to 30 mails to different professors all around schools in Canada, asking if any of them can supervise me. Most of them end up telling me that they need students with extensive research experience, or students that can apply for external funding. Please biko, how do i go about this? I am a final year medical student, where am i suppose to get such experience? or does this have to do with the way i write my emails? Some of the professors do not even bother to reply me. Another question is that, how do i write a research statement for heaven's sake. This is getting frustrating. Please kindly help. |
