vire: well i believe as the world econmon continues to fail and more money is printed....its only logical that this will happen...i have spoken times without number about government BONDS and what really they mean when you here CBN going to sell BONDS....it means in lame man example....if you have alcohol of 60% concentration and you begin to add water....what you will have is still taste like alcohol but the concentration has been reduced to maybe 25% due to diluting with water....now to the price of goods since more money is printed by the way of BONDS...you will have the same 1000 naira but of lesser valus compare to last month and even last week....so since more money is chasing goods and services its only normal by the law of supply and demand to have prices go up..... tongue tongue tongue tongue tongue so rather than focus on these issues you have no power to control, because the elite will always win in this game of money..... angry angry angry angry focus of improving your cashflow...create more avenues to make more money so your financial statement always will have a surplus....if not i see alot of people going into the class of super poor soon embarassed embarassed embarassed embarassed

sir, i beg to disagree with your argument on the effect of government Bonds on the Economy.

firstly, Bonds are sold by the government as an effective tool of controlling money supply and inflation in the economy as well as raising of funds to bridge the financing gap caused by budget deficits. In order to raise such monies Bonds are SOLDto the dealers/ investors (decreasing money supply)and used in financing of projects (money supply increases), so there is a net off there depending on how much is spent from the amount sold.

Secondly, you need to know that monies are not just printed for printing sake. It is the value of your income generated from the sale of crude oil or other exports received in dollars that are printed in naira.

Politics / Re: PHCN (NEPA) Service Charge On Prepaid Meter by skalamanga: 4:53pm On Nov 21, 2011
talk true:

The service charge by PHCN on their prepaid meter is an advance way of extortion.
The service charge is about N20/day for residents and N40/day for commercial. It is the number of days from your last recharge. If you recharge N1000 and after 30days you come to recharge again with N1000, they will subtract the service charge for the 30days i.e. N20 x 30 = N600. And you will be given a unit of N400 instead of N1000.

Even the areas that have light 24/7, i.e. 24mins in 7days, they will collect service charge for those days there was no light. And if your area had power problem and it took them 2 months to fix, when next you come to recharge, you will still pay service charge for the 2 months that you didn’t use light. It means that one is paying N20 or N40 service charge everyday whether he uses light or not. This is no longer pay as you go. Is it the same in the western world?

I don’t think there is need for this service charge because its supposed to be included in the amount of units you bought just like in telecoms. We have been using electronic cards for ATM, POS, etc and none of this is requesting for service charge. This should be stopped so that if one was properly utilizes a N500 unit, he can as well buy the same rate when next he comes to recharge.

@Op
you guys are enjoying oh, over here in kurudu, orozo, karshi  axis in abuja they just started the prepaid meter thingy and they charge us 51.70/ day as access charge for 3 phase meters, while its 11/day for single phase. i went to their office with 3k last saturday and got just 300 naira worth of credit. they deducted 2,533k minus vat as access charge for 49 days. almost cried back home. they are just thieves and its about time we echoe this fraud that is being perpetarated by nepa

Only Sun Newspapers make the claim that the cost is for laminating your existing cards. These other sources I've posted say it's for printing permanent Voters card.

INEC has stated several times (since last year) that the cards issued at the registration point was only a temporary card and a permanent one would be issued out later on. The 5 billion here he's requesting is apparently meant for printing the permanent cards.

The money he requested last year (and up until late January this year) was for the voters registration exercise only. This money he is asking for is for his 2011 budget for INEC. Two separate things.

This is why we should no be in too much of a hurry to condemn without doing some fact checking. As long as this is for the Permanent voters card, Mr. Jega is perfectly in line here.

spot on!

the money jega is asking for is for the 2011 budget whch includes the PERMANENT voters card. the laminated cards issued during the voters registration was a temporary one, by looking at it you would know that it is not durable, please lets give this guy a break and always cross check our facts before going to the butchers table

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: The End Of Hitv - Multichoice/dstv Wins Back Epl Coverage Rights In Nigeria by skalamanga: 1:29pm On Jul 23, 2010
felix4real:

It's a shame that Hitv could not hold on to what they had. Not only was their standard of presentation poor, they went on organizing promos and buying cars when they had bills to pay and needed to upgrade their product quality and content. We all should stop being sentimental. DStv maintained its hold in the nigerian market in spite of losing the broadcast rights. within three years it launched over 30 new channels. It has more nigerian content on its bouquet now (Africa Magic Yoruba, Hausa, Soundcity, Bigbrother Nigeria, Comedy live in Lagos, Tinsel,   the list is endless). On top of that, they kept giving us what we could not give ourselves,  broadcasting Nigerian matches to niNigerianshen Hitv and other local stations were busy showing wedding ceremonies and political meetings, portraying the nigerian image positively to Africa and the world.

If any nigerian company seeks to grow, it should stop thinking of how to portray other competitors as bad but rather how to make its products and services better than others (ask Globacom how it is beginning to move forward with it's MainOne fibre optic cable all the way from Europe while others are struggling with SAT3). They should grow up and learn that Multichoice or any other big cable company in the world are decades in the making. They should start from the basics and grow. Not start a battle they can't finish.

GBAM! spot on.
Their focus should nt have been on getting the EPL rights rather on developing their own content and sytle of programming and unique pricing structure to attract and maintain customers. i doubt if they even did a business plan before embarking on this wateful venture. well, as for me i no send because i no get hitv, i was never convinced when they came on board. just pretenders!

Culture / Re: Monday Morning Rush Hour by skalamanga: 1:33pm On Jun 10, 2010
i dont leave in ibadan but i will attempt explaining;

1. Monday mornings have heavier traffick because ibadan recidents that work in lagos leave for lagos on monday mornings having spent the weekend with their families, which is why the traffick is heavy on the ibadan-lagos express way on mondays.

2. Traffick is heavier on friday evenings because these workers are coming back to meet their families to spend the weekend and the reason why general traffick is heavy on the lag-ibadan express way on fridays.

these are simple analogies i think might be the reason.

Career / Ond Now Minimum Qualification Into Nigerian Police Force by skalamanga: 12:23pm On Apr 27, 2010
Minimum Qualification for Recruitment into Police Now OND
From Segun Awofadeji in Gombe, 04.27.2010

As part of its reform programme for the Nigeria Police Force, Deputy Inspector General of Police, “F” Department, Research Planning and Information Technology, Mr. Olusegun Efuntayo, has said the minimum qualification in future recruitment exercise into the force will be Ordinary National Diploma (OND).

In an interview with journalists during his operation tour of Zone 3, comprising Gombe, Taraba and Adamawa States, Efuntayo said the Federal Government had already earmarked N1.5 trillion for the recruitment exercise which would take care of all aspects of the Police Force.

He said the reform in the force, which would make the welfare of the policemen its cardinal objectives, would also include the capacity building of its men and officers.
According to him, policemen would soon smile as most problems associated with them such as accommodation and other aspects would be fully addressed by the Federal Government.

On the force’s preparedness for the smooth conduct of the 2011 general election, the DIG stated that with the support of and cooperation of all Nigerians especially politicians, journalists and other major stakeholders, the 2011 elections would be very successful and hitch free even as he added that the police were ready.
He explained that the successes recently recorded in Anambra, Etsako Local Government in Delta State and the FCT were clear indications that there would be a lot of improvement from the police in the 2011 general election adding that Nigerians would be happy for it.

i find this to be very biased and untrue and are you insisting that this companies went thru all this trouble to dupe buyers? please be careful before you pass judgement. I want to very much believe you are making sense but since you are nothing but a liar misinforming people about a system that has easen the burden of home ownership within the country, I wont expect you to mention any Estate Company that has done this to its clients since you have no proof.
i am an agent and I dont post on nairaland because thanks to your poor unvisionary job, it is unregulated and has no standards. I have purchased land from different estates within mowe and ofada and have purchased for some friends outside the country and confidentally say their prime plots are safe and all legal documents have been passed to them after full payments for their plots.

"Take it or leave it, 75% of Nigerian Property Merchants have the tendency to be fraudulent to dupe you off your money once you give them that loop hole or chance and in most cases than none, it takes a  miracle to get your money back."
Please speak for yourself. If you are a fraud, kindly say you are and dont just sit down and write rubbish without giving sources or evidences.

Any member of The Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) should take note of this, and hereby correct this unbalanced and faslehood.
And what kind of lawyer are you? A property lawyer? Do you have a registered firm. I notice you dont include that in any of your post. No office address. No RC number. Please provide some to quiet me. Please people, beware of this fraud who prefers pushing people misguidedly to unprotected plots rather than coming straight. Real Estate is risky, and its a charlatan who try to justify hes more qualified by selling volatile and empty plots in Lekki while claiming properly registered and secured estates are fradulent.
whats your point and why do i smell guilt here? the lawyer guy just raised some very fundamental issues that could help naive guys not to make mistakes and now you are taking it out on him, if you are very sure that you are not one of dem fraudulent agents then you have got nothing to fear rather than accusing the lawyer who has a good heart and intention of warning people to be weary of the so called omoniles you are castigating him for mentioning the kind of fraud you guys commit out there, if he was fraud would he come out here and display their tactics and tricks?

coola-you:

As a Banker, I have just one advise for all of us:

You can never eat your cake and have it too,

When ever you divulge your security details to someone either knowingly or unkowingly, then expect the unexpected.

Virtually all the ATM card fraud handled so far by my bank are linked to card security divulgence to persons other than the card holders. Some of them do this ignorantly by supplying their card details to strange emails/websites.

If you have an account in the bank and you claim you dont need an ATM card, and yet you keep your cheque book around where someone who is already familiar with your signature features can have access to, the fraud you are norturing will be mightier than that of the ATM that has withdrawal limit.

Please keep your card details as safe as you will to your life.

@coola-you
Mr Banker please do not insult our intelligence here, i stand to ague that claim of yours about security divulgence. you dont seem to be following the thread or at least my earlier post about card skimming and insider runs by members of bank staff posted by other members here. before i fell victim i f anyone had challened me with a bet that i would fall victim to atm fraud i would have taken it because i thought those who fell were either careless with their pin details or outrightly dumb. for the avoidance of doubt i have NEVER given out my details, NEVER! not even to my wife tkless of feeding it into a phishing site but only used it at an atm within a banking premises and during working hours but yet my money was stolen. who could have such access?abegi jooo, banker ko banker ni
