Let’s talk about free things and shortcuts. Nigerians love both ! Which is not a bad thing.

But have you asked yourself, do I have the necessary mental fortitude, patience and personality to follow this through? If I decide to learn to press keyboard now, You think I won’t cash out massively? I will because I’m always looking for and learning updates.

Another person will follow the same steps and still fail or underperform.

Lesson? Even if them show you sure way and you lack some basic things in your personality. You will still fail. No be by bathing soap.

Lazy Saturday. I need to catch up on my labs and some courses.

I didn’t like the database labs. Is that how people manage databases, raw in the CLI? No way am I doing that unless I’m paid better money. Once I set it up, we’re good. Find someone else to manipulate shait in the db.

The average Nigerian never siezes to surprise. Both Chief aand his wife are into money. Why act like classless people and send thugs. To what effect? Meet the gentleman in court and pay up if you need the place back.

This act of bullying has to stop.
Heard of rich people being the ones that owe most? Not because they can’t pay but because they can use their influence and power to get away with it. This shouldn’t be surprising

anything green, defeats the purpose of dark mode. An oled dark mode saves more battery in an oled device.
Right. As a single user with a technical opinion

You think the rest of the users care about battery savings or have oled devices?

A feature might be perfect and have no users

🤣🤣. Yes you are right. Something like the one below is way better for me. Please whatever it finally ends up being, I beg to have an option for true amoled dark mode too, like Apollo for Reddit did back then.
The theme for nairaland is green. Which makes sense in so many ways I can’t even explain. Like when you think of Nigeria in colors? is it green, gold or blue you immediately think of? How about red and blue? US, UK etc

They just need to get the dark mode colors right. Something that feels good on the eyes and attractive to the brain. Someone that thinks and feels in colors will get that right, The current one feels confusing and I just had to switch back to light mode

What you posted is bland. It might drive away more people or get hardly used.

I'm inspired reading your tech journey. For 10 years I've been planning to learn tech but never found the time to actually start it. Would you recommend starting with the basics like HTML,CSS or I go straight to Python, then move to cloud computing and AI? Would appreciate your advice. Thank you .
Start with linux. Learning HTML etc is to get you familiar with programming languages, and you can substitute with python when you get to that level.

Check out devops on roadmap . sh also.

Back to my journey biko. We were going through some python labs in Aws cloud 9and currently in Database setup and admin . I really need to save some of this labs in my Github for perusing later. You won’t find them easily outside and they’re very practical stuff you will run into later.

Still running gen because transformer has spoiled for like 3 months now and people are tired of paying every year, guess what, they came to steal the transformer cable. Lol. I’m sure a nepa insider did it. Not even fazed.

Laptop is down by one battery, Internal battery swelled up, means I’m down to like 6hours. Even the external has lost 20% capacity. Lenovo think pads are tough men. I went to check some details online and this particular laptop has been in use for years and still solid. Can’t even mention the age.

Anyways, I’m checking both battery prices on jiji and seeing 40-45k each. Great!

Time to get another portable and bigger powerbank. I’m prepared this time, unlike when I was learning UIUX.

Thanks for the additional resources link you just shared.... I'll keep an eye out for them...

Also, you mentioned HNG...

I just got into into the HNG internship...
It's supposed to start in 3 weeks (grateful that it fell after my schedule AWS SAA exam date)...

Would like to know your opinion about their program... What was it like for you?
They offer a premium also, at a cost... Did you take it? Was it worth it??

For the survey group chat, I don't mind paying for it... Pls share..

You said you'll drop your email...
Already replied to some people, check last pic on front page.

HNG is good, but seems they’re looking for experienced hands and the elimination is brutal per level and if you do make it to the second to last stage, the group teamwork & product is the issue. Wrote about it on the thread somewhere. The premium just keeps you till the last levels even if you get eliminated so you can see the tasks and try them on your own. And you get to stay in their slack channels. In summary, you get exposed to new skills and tools fast and need to use them under pressure. 90% drop off.

Will drop the new survey course link when you dm

Guy, good luck in your endeavors. I appreciate you grinding. It reminds me of the grind to get in pre-Y2K. Enjoying the benefits of that grind now and on the back end of a career.

2 things,

(1) if the RHCSA / RHCE options are still open to you, take it. It is a path not sexy but stable especially if you are ready to grind. A lot of people cant handle it

(2) There might be opportunities in the middle east that are explorable, UAE and Qatar comes to mind. Look into them
Thanks for the insights , Already looked them up in the beginning of my journey , only the certification costs were quite high.
Will keep them in mind moving forward.

I'm very active on reddit, quora, stackexchange, medium etc. The issue is I don't even get responses or feedback when I apply for remote jobs, and its tiring.
Getting anything remote is war now. You have to keep grinding. You can also

Test it like this.

Focus on less popular countries. Try places like norway, turkey etc. one of my guys got an AI course sponsorship to Dubai

Secondly use a vpn to open reddit, don’t go near the nigerian/african threads because people can view your post history like Nl, open a linkedin accounts and use AI for your profile picture. Change your location away from Nigeria and try applying again. You have to modify your cv also.

If that works, it means it’s more of a location issue and not a skill/competence one.

Good morning bro...

Came across your thread this morning on the front page...
Good stuff... Wild journey... I'm still going through the thread tho... Just wanted to drop this here first

I'm also on my learning path towards becoming a DevOps engineer..

But I went the ALX AWS route... Enrolled for ALX cloud computing programme. Certified with the Cloud Practitioner... Currently preparing for the solutions architect certification next month..
After which I plan to focus on learning Bash for a month, then Python till the end of the year.

Had some networking experience while working at my previous job as an IT support personnel.

Had to quit my job and went back to my parents house ("Go Hard or Go Home".... I choose to "Go Hard From Home"wink so I can fully dedicate this year towards getting foundational knowledge for cloud and other things I need to learn...

My learning path hasn't really been what I expected it to be... But I'm still grinding on it ...

I'd love to connect with you ... I'll end you a PM.

The link you posted about the course you took for online surveys, the product owner stopped selling the course.... does the person still accept people into the group through direct private referral??

You’re on the right path. Get that solutions architect cert and keep an eye on CIL academy programs when they open. And apply for this sterling bank disep program in the meantime.

https://www.stanbicibtc.com/nigeriaholdings/Stanbic-IBTC-Holdings/why-we-matter/our-sponsorships/Economic-Empowerment/digital-skills-empowerment-programme

For the surveys, I can give you another link, it’s a paid group, Sorry. You’ll be outed out as soon as you start asking questions you’re supposed to know answers to.

I’ll drop my email on the front page

I was patiently waiting for the "AI will take your job" people to jump into the beautiful thread..

And they did not fail to disappoint me.

I'm beginning to believe that the people who are pushing this "AI will take your job" narrative are people who either failed to build a good career in Tech, hence are using the AI thing as an excuse for their failure or people who don't even have a job at all.

Cuz... Why the heck are they everywhere trying to discourage humans from learning and making progress in their careers?

Meanwhile, I tried venturing into DevOps sometime in 2023. I already had good knowledge of HTML and CSS before joining.. But damn, I couldn't continue.

Aside from the very demanding 9-5 that was barely paying my bills, I also needed to attend to my family and my side hustles. Worse still, I enrolled with a UK-based online Tech school, due to the difference in our time zones, the timing for the classes wasn't favourable for me at all.

Wish you luck, man..
Don’t mind the AI crew. If they don’t adapt either way, it would soon clear for their eyes.

I can relate to your struggles man, it’s not easy.

Just don’t give up. Cloud computing is still one of the very promising careers and you can still pivot when you have the time. Just move fast and hard and connect with like people.

True. The objective is to become familiar with programming languages and be able to decode and debug if necessary.

From HNG to Altschool , aws lambda and others, I’ve ran across different languages and was able to scale through with some AI help. My non tech colleagues, fell off even with AI.

And if one ends up in a consultancy or startup. You will be forced to wear many hats.

C is preferred for performance-critical tasks or when direct hardware access is needed. Something bash and Python cannot match with it comes to automation.

Linux is built on C and it is well integrated with the command line.

C is essential to learn.
Interesting, You’re the first person to suggest it though. I did a bit of it in my university days. If it comes to it, I’ll pick it up. For now. Bash and python meets my levels of understanding and current duties.

If you’re sure you’re very good with what you learnt and can prove it. Get into more foreign dominated spaces like reddit, slack channels etc, You’ll get opportunities.

As for the G boys, you might want to learn some of their tricks. In a racist scenario where the onus is on your color and not your capabilities and it’s a non verification low hanging job. Some of their tools will help you out.

If most of the western world wants to paints us Nigerians as all the same, then you as a Nigerian must learn to fly without perching.

Even if you ask if they tampered with the battery they will say no. I tire for these gadget sellers
There are ways to know. Check online if the model comes with internal battery.

If you see one intact with internal batteries , use AI to help you know how to verify if it’s original.

And the last option, buy and install it in your system, just that it’s expensive. Mine is 40-45k, See why they mostly remove it? The serious ones will tell you the truth when you ask them the price of fake and genuine batteries.

All in all, better to buy from those that import directly and you’ll get solid untampered laptops

If I'm caged and you are free.
.
Why not try bring me to your freedom by the same mechanism you have found?
.
I have found truth which has set me free, if you are free while I'm caged, why not tell me the truth you have found.
Jesus said that eternal life is about knowing Jehovah, the only true God, and knowing Jesus Christ whom he has sent.
If you talk about eternal life or truth without Christ and Jehovah, you are only playing into the lies and illusory philosophical game of Lucifer. There's no way you can beat him except you hide yourself under the government of Christ.
Jesus says, I am the way, the truth and the life. The Life here is eternal life. And this life can only be got through knowing the only true God and his son. Other recourse is mere intellectual gymnastics and ego tripping that has no true root. Shallom
Look at the picture well again. The bird is not caged.

Christ and Jehovah are 2 entirely different entities. The latter is one of the bad ones

P:S No one is coming back for you. Seek to understand why or die, spend some time in your self created heavens/hell/emptiness. Get wiped and get sent back here as usual to start over again. Maybe Then you will understand the powers and principalities you’re up against and see religion as one of the chains. Shalom.

Hello good day boss, hope you're good? I once again appreciate you for that survey update, it's helping pay my little bills. Thank you!

If you don't mind, can you pls recommend a laptop (any brand) with minimium 5-6hrs battery life that can run tech softwares like docker smoothly and maybe have a graphic card for vid editing. Budget is 300k, can stretch to 350k max (will be very hard).

I know my budget is too small for what I'm looking for but pls you know about laptops and can give me good advice. Thank you 🙏
I’m fine thanks. Glad to hear the survey update pays some of your bills.

As for the laptop, Apart from the ones I already mentioned, I can only give you the basics to search for on jiji etc and it would bring out systems within your budget for you.

Core i5-17
128-256 SSD Compulsory
8gb-16gb Ram
Has an internal battery and external battery.
Then check for video memory specs

Those boy’s mostly remove the internal batteries to re-sell so ask well (I know lenovo and dell have systems with 2 batteries, not sure of HP) and buy ones that have not been tampered with.

You don't have to be condescending.
I've been a long time reader of the OP, I've read virtually all if not all of his former documentation of his personal findings about how this world is structured to hide a lot of things from us. Many of his revelation is mind blowing and call for sober reflection especially for people who are still carried away about life. But then, the biggest take away for me from his post, is the fact that it consolidates my belief in the word of Christ that this world is surely not our abode, and we are not of the system of this world...... Because I see no other way by which any man can be saved from the damnation already wroght and imminent on this world of lies and evil

Cloud Journey Review

I posted this when I started out last year around Sep. And can confidently say I have touched all aspects in one form or the other. Na only kubernetes be the bone inside meat.

If you're just starting out. Find a solid academy or course. Posted a lot on this threads and stick to it for 6 months to a year, make sure you get your AWS certifications (practitioner & Solutions), then reach out to your circle and apply for internships and jobs, attend tech events and make friends. If I had gone for my certification immediately after 3MTT, I would definitely have gone farther than this. Else you'll keep going around in Circles.

And if you know you are the type that can learn fast, Remove limits and try out everything. Go for interviews even if its for jokes. I did that a lot as a UIUX designer and they did call me back after some months but I don move on. Will still do it just to get insights. Foreign employees tend to be more lenient in my own opinion. But you get the point. Don't wait till you're 80% ready to start applying for jobs etc.

Ignore the fun part if sapa is breathing down your neck. Know your stuff and apply like your life depends on it.

Learning tech without/limited backup funding is different. The hunger is different and I recognize that
