Super Eagles invitee, Dele Ajiboye will start in goal after maintaining a clean sheet in the first match against Gombe

United as Seun Akinyemi and former Dolphins defender Mutiu Adegoke.

Nairaland GeneralNFF Say Kenya Responsible For Their Troubles by Slankey(op): 3:06pm On Mar 21, 2013
Nigeria say Kenya are responsible for their own travel troubles in Nigeria, and chose a dilapidated primary school to train despite being offered a much better pitch at National Stadium, Lagos.

On Wednesday, pictures emerged showing Harambee Stars players training on a grassless ground in Lagos, and their officials reportedly blaming their Nigerian counterparts for shoddy arrangements

But NFF official Bola Oyeyode, who is the coordinator for the game, told KickOffNigeria.com that the Kenyans had no one to blame but themselves.

“To start with, they were playing hide and seek about their travel arrangements,” Oyeyode began. “They refused to communicate their arrival date to us despite numerous letters from us to them.

“In all those communications, we copied their embassy here and Fifa and we still have the letters here.

“It was only on Monday afternoon that they wrote to us informing us they would arrive on Wednesday afternoon.

“Even their embassy was finding it hard getting information out of them. an embassy official called Mr Tony was doing his best to help us, but even he could not get anything out of them.”

When information eventually came, it was too limited, according to Oyeyode.

“They told us they were coming with a 25-man delegation, but didn't give us any names, so we could not book the connecting flight to Calabar early.

“When it was getting late, we used our relationship with the airline to book 25 seats with no names, only for them to arrive with a 35-man party.

“In their letter, they never said they wanted to train in Lagos. The arrangement was for them to come in and fly straight to Calabar. But their flight arrived at noon, and the flight to Calabar is usually at 11am.

“At no time did we discuss anything about a chartered aircraft. Even our own team, who are African champions, flew to Calabar on a regular commercial flight.”

Regarding the training ground, Oyeyode said the Kenyans picked the substandard ground on the advise of one of their ‘consultants’.

“We went out of our way to book the training pitch of the National Stadium in Surulere for them at very, very short notice.

“But they refused to go there, after they were advised but one their men on the ground here, and they chose that primary school to train.”

dabossman: Personally, I think this is just a ruse by the Kenyan Federation to make excuses for their team if they lose and also make Nigeria look bad. Never in our history (at least as far back as I remember) have we ever done this to any visiting team. Worst case scenario, we will take them to the training pitch at the National Stadium in Surulere.

I bet the Kenyans opted to training on a pitch close to their hotel after missing their flight to Calabar, and then turned around to blame it on the NFF.

However, if I'm wrong, then shame on the NFF. We need not descend to the levels of other African nations who treat our teams unfairly.
I totally reckon with you.

The visiting delegation from the east African country has been disappointed by the treatment it’s gotten since arriving Lagos ahead of Saturday’s World Cup qualifier

The Nigeria Football Federation abandoned the visiting Kenyan national team to its fate on Wednesday. The east Africans will play against the Super Eaglesin Saturday’s 2014 World Cup qualification match in Calabar, Cross River State.
The Harambee Stars arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos via a Kenya Airways flight on Wednesday afternoon.

On arrival at the airport, there was not one high ranking member of the Nigeria Football Federation to receive the team for a game of such international magnitude.

Expecting to be ferried to Calabar straight away in order to begin preparations for the crucial game, the east Africans were told that the only flight that goes to the city had departed and that they would need to wait till Thursday.

They then requested that a plane be chartered for them but did not get any response from an NFF official named Alataka who was communicating with them via telephone. They said that his mobile was unreachable for prolonged periods.

The team was later taken to the Silver Grandeur Hotel, around Isolo, to lodge for the night. According to the Kenyan head of delegation Hussein Terry, the hotel owned by NFF vice president Chief Mike Umeh is “a two star hotel” and it contravened the Caf/Fifa statutes that say any visiting international team must be accommodated in at least a four star hotel.

Terry also stated that as head of delegation, a separate saloon car should have been provided for him. However, the NFF did not do such and he had to share the team’s Coaster bus.

The Kenyans also complained of being left without a security official accompanying them.

The Football Kenya Federation sent a letter of protest to the NFF. In the letter made available to Goal.com, the federation’s secretary general Michael Esokwa asked the NFF to urgently address the needs of the visiting team according to agreed terms.

While not wanting to waste the opportunity of acclimatising in the humid weather, they decided to find a football field to work out. They were taken to the Ajao Estate Primary School in Oshodi.

There the team, under the watchful eyes of coach Adel Amrouche, did light jogging and stretching exercises on the dusty grounds of the primary school.

Amrouche later told Goal.com that he wasn’t fazed by the poor reception that his team had been given. “T.I.A,” he said.

“This is Africa,” he explained before walking into the team bus.

Coach Adel Amrouche with captain Dennis Oliech

With the less than hospitable treatment that the east Africans have been given, many of the team officials are already talking about using it to turn the table against their opponents in Saturday’s encounter.

“We will spoil your party,” one official said. “That you’re the African champions makes us more motivated to defeat you.”

An accompanying journalist told Goal.com: “I love your country if this is how they treat visitors,” he said with sarcasm.

The Kenyans will hope to get space on the Arik Air flight that departs for Calabar on Thursday in order to settle down in the Canaan City ahead of their game on Saturday.

For them, it’s far from Uhuru.

SportsShooting Stars Pick AWOL Asuquo For Dolphin Tie On Thursday In Portharcourt by Slankey(op): 5:10pm On Mar 18, 2013
Midfielder Philip Asuquo will star for 3SC in Thursday’s league match at Dolphins after he was pardoned for going AWOL.

Asuquo has formally apologised for staying away from the club without permission and he has also signed the club’s code of conduct.

He will not be paid for the period he was away from the team, MTNFootball.com has been informed by team officials.

Asuquo, who recently made his return to the Shooting Stars in a friendly against Ingenious Soccer Academy, which 3SC won 2-0 at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.

He has been considered ahead of Jacob Eke, while veteran Moses Ogaga will replace Gabriel Adikwu from the squad that defeated Gombe United on the opening day of the new season.

Asuquo will feature alongside with Sola Adeboye and Sanni Mohammed in the midfield, while Ogaga will partner Gbolahan Salami in attack.

Defender Mutiu Adegoke has returned to training after a relapse of an injury sidelined him from training at the weekend.

And after Eagles coach Stephen Keshi picked nine players from the League for the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Kenya on Saturday, Eagles invitee Dele Ajiboye will rejoin the squad for the Dolphins clash.

3SC will leave for Port Harcourt on Tuesday morning by 6am ahead of the Thursday showdown.

SportsKESHI CONFIRMS: Mikel, Moses In Town Tuesday by Slankey(op): 12:16pm On Mar 18, 2013
Super Eagles Chief Coach told SportingLife yesterday that Chelsea Football Club of England stars Mikel Obi and Victor Moses will storm Calabar tomorrow.

The Coach disclosed that in a routine check on his players the two England based players promised to hit Calabar on Tuesday on time to participate in the evening training of the team.

“Mikel and Moses have told me that they would be in Calabar unfailingly on Tuesday. They have promised to be there on time to participate in the evening training of the team”, Keshi told SportingLife yesterday.

The former Togo and Mali coach also confirmed the availability of other players that will arrive in Nigeria today. Players like Ahmed Musa, Elderson Echijile and Brown Ideye are expected to arrive in Nigeria tomorrow (today).

“I also expect Ahmed Musa, Elderson Echiejile, Brown Ideye and others to join us if possible in Abuja tomorrow (today) if they arrive on time before we depart for Calabar tomorrow (today).

“The plan is that players that have matches yesterday (Saturday) and today (Sunday) should be in Nigeria latest Monday (today) and tomorrow (Tuesday). So any player that arrives on time tomorrow (today) will travel with us to Calabar tomorrow (today) while others would definitely join us in Calabar. We hope to start training on time if time permits Monday evening for the all important match. We are leaving no stone unturned to have a successful outing come this Saturday”, Keshi vowed.

SportsWhat Osaze Must Do To Return To The Eagles - Keshi by Slankey(op): 6:45am On Mar 15, 2013
There are strong indications that the return of Osaze Odemwingie to the Super Eagles may not happen so soon.

Chief Coach of the Nigerian team, Stephen Keshi, said that the West Brom striker must change his attitude before he could earn a call up to the senior national team.

Keshi said that because he was not invited for the last Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, the former Lille of France star has refused to congratulate him, the coaches, the players and the nation for winning the African tournament in February.

“There is no doubt that Osaze is a good player, but he hasn’t shown the right attitude that he is ready to play for the country again. Nigerians won’t believe that Osaze has not sent a word or text messages of congratulations to us after the Nations Cup. This shows the kind of a person he is,” Keshi said.

The former coach of Mali noted that the gates of the Eagles are still open for the likes of Victor Anichebe, Shola Ameobi, including Osaze and other Nigerian players wherever they are, stressing that these players only need to show enough patriotism and must be disciplined on and off the field of play.

“The door of the team is open to all Nigerian players who are doing well at their respective clubs both at home and abroad. But we will not sacrifice discipline or good attitude for any erring player,” he said.

The Gospel Musician Lanre Teriba also known as Atorise took to his Facebook page on landing from South Africa after suffering from a leg gun shot after a recent show in South Africa but debunked the rumour that he's been confined to the wheel chair. Excerpt below

" I want to thank my dear fans, friends and everyone who has been praying for me. I went to tour south africa and after my first show I was shot in the leg and robbed. But I was not confined to a wheelchair. I was also told that some are even going around saying God spoke to them about me being in a wheel chair, they are liars. As for those saying God is using this to punish me, may God forgive us all. And may we learn to let God be the judge. I want to also use this opportunity to plead with journalist , please stop spreading false news, do your research, and provide nigerians something they can learn from , not useless gossip. I also plead to everyone in the world be careful of what u accept as the truth. I'm greatful that God has spared my life and I pray his love protects us and leads us all in the right way. I'm back and ready for my Nigerian fans. My mission to spread the gospel continues. One love, God bless."

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Wenger Calls For Historic Fightback Against Bayern Munchen by Slankey(op): 6:57am On Mar 13, 2013
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hopes his players will produce a performance which will define their careers and turn around a 3-1 deficit to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Bayern’s home defensive record is formidable and have not conceded three since losing to Inter Milan two years ago, while this season they have let in only 10 goals in 25 Bundesliga matches.

“I am convinced that if this team can find a big game, with a big win, you will see a completely different animal. This season we have fought to find that in the big games and we have another opportunity tomorrow night and I hope the team takes this chance,” Wenger said at the Allianz Arena.

“I have a great respect for this team and its attitude and they have not been rewarded yet. It is important for the end to our season that we do it tomorrow.”

Despite everything seemingly stacked against them, Wenger insists it is not over yet.

He said: “It is a difficult task, we know that, but we think it is not impossible. The only way to make it possible is to have a real go and play at our best tomorrow night, that is what we will do.

“I am confident we will be completely focused and up for it, and give it our best shot. Football is football – everything is possible.”

Wenger has to make do without Jack Wilshere and also decided to leave No.1 goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny in London, and is likely to hand a first start in more than a year to Lukasz Fabianski.

“He has played many games since the start of the season and recently I felt that mentally it affected him, that is why I have decided to rest him,” the Gunners boss said.

“(He has been affected) by the number of games he has played. It is his second season only in the Premier League and he has played many games.

“I am always confident before the game that the guy who plays is ready. The players who start our games have no excuse of not being fit or ready. If I decide to play them it is because they are ready.”

CrimeHow NDLEA Uncovered Cocaine In Woman’s Hair At Nnamdi Azikwe International Airpo by Slankey(op): 12:51pm On Mar 12, 2013
DRUG peddlers may have found a new haven at Abuja International Airport following a heavy beaming of searchlight on them at the Lagos International Airport where they are now being apprehended on daily.

But the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has assured that they are watching out for prospective drug peddlers in the entire international airports across the country.

To match its words with action, a 53-year-old grandmother was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja. She was arrested at the weekend by operatives of the NDLEA following the discovery of 1.00kilogrammes of white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine hidden inside her hair.

The suspect, Giwa Ayoka Sikirat, concealed the drug in her beautiful hairstyle while trying to board a flight to Pakistan enroute Addis Ababa and Dubai.

NDLEA Abuja Airport Commander, Mr. Hamisu Lawan, said the suspect who attempted smuggling the drug to Pakistan was arrested during routine check at the airport.

“There was no prior information on Sikirat as the drug was detected when a female officer carried out a body frisk on her during outward screening of passengers. She was smuggling the drug to Pakistan. We also arrested one 59-year-old suspected accomplice, Joseph Umunna an indigene of Anambra State who brought Sikirat to the airport,” Lawan said.

Preliminary investigation, according to the anti-drug boss, shows that Joseph Umunna was assigned to take her to the airport and ensure that she successfully boarded her flight.

The drug was concealed in her hair in Lagos before her sponsors took her to Abuja. Both suspects would soon be charged to court in line with the NDLEA Act for unlawful exportation and conspiracy to export one kilogramme of cocaine.

During interrogation, Sikirat said that life as a single mother was not easy, hence, her decision to serve as a courier.

She said: “I have problems with my house rent and school fees of my children. I use to buy goods from Dubai and Pakistan but since my shop at Nnamdi Azikiwe, Lagos Island was demolished, it has been struggles. My husband also abandoned me and the children, which made life very difficult. When they approached me to take the drug, I had no option. I was taken to a hotel in Lagos where a hair stylist was brought to fix the drugs. It was properly fixed and they promised to pay me $4,000”.

Sikirat attended St. Louis Primary School, Mushin and Isolo Secondary School both in Lagos. She also attended School of Fashion and Design in Lagos in 1994. She hails from Kwara State.

While commending his officers for a job well-done, Chairman of the NDLEA, Mr. Ahmadu Giade, said that it was morally wrong for a 53-year-old mother to smuggle drugs.

“I commend the officers for detecting the drug hidden in the suspect’s hair. It is sad for a 53-year-old mother to smuggle drugs. This shows that she is morally bankrupt and lacks the courage to inculcate discipline in her children.”

Sikirat and Joseph Umunna would be charged to court to serve as deterrent to others.
