I disagree, writing is presently giving the country a good international image than music, the hype is just on music. Plus the sponsorships(on music still). |
Back your claim with examples; don't just spit it out like pppuuu!!! & expect us to reply just like that! For real, I love this post,it calls for debate. Just give few examples to back your claim and get ready for the counter. However, I disagree with you. |
The Sun is the current newspaper of the year & also the current market leader. It's website is also the most visited paper website in Nigeria. It's editors are among the best in the biz, I can go on and on, |

my reply will be a bit different and off the point. the books i want to comment on are the ones that gave me no room to start guessing, and by that i'm talking of Chimamanda's two books: purple hibiscus and half of a yellow sun. those two books really brought my knees down because i always try to guess what's inside a book before i start reading. on those two books, i failed. |
som1 brought me a PC from the states but the stuff is locked! the PC is from T-mobile. is there any way i can unlock the PC? any info will be appreciated. |
Shuku:shuku, if u want to quote a post just click on the reply option, when it comes out scroll down and u will see a list of the posts. on top of every post is an option "Insert Quote", click it and wait a while and the post u want to quote will appear in the body of the message. click "enter" so that the insertion point will create a paragraph, then you type whatever u want to. hope u read this! |
it is mere waste of time to argue that most newspaper/ news magazine columnists are just forcing themselves to write, which has remained impossible since i can remember. in contrast, however, there are those who seem to write effortlessly, who find it easy to write and write well too. the columnists in the later category, in my opinion, are: Dan Agbese(i don't think this guy has ever written nonsense), Ray Ekpu, Soji Akinrinade, Niyi Osundare -- in fact everybody in Newswatch . . . . still counting: Louis Odion(where is this guy, please?), Femi Adesina, Steve Nwosu, Funke Egbemode(although i don't always enjoy her Koko and Kaka drama), Mohammed Haruna . . . i'm stopping here, over to you . . . . |
There are no doubt many newspapers/ news magazines in the world and in our country(Nigeria), but while many of them are out there for the real business of journalism, some are just tools in the hands of politicians and the powers that be, firing their salvo, writing ill about their opponents and defending their most glaring stupidity. This is why i asked this question. in my own opinion, without wasting much time, Newswatch magazine ranks as my all time best. then Tell and the others follow. as for newspapers, i like Daily Sun, although they never appear to see anything wrong in Abia and Imo States (as the paper is owned by Orji Uzor Kalu). but i still like the paper due to the brand of journalists they parade. so, which is your best? |
V.S Naipaul once declared that "the novel is dead". not many people agreed with him. but, seriously, i believe there are certain genres of literature that are fast going into extinction, like drama, poetry and, i think, short story. i could be very wrong, really. so i would like us to give our various opinion. |
which genre in literature is your best. for me, i like prose and poetry while i find drama a bit slow and boring. as for short story, i can't really say because i've not read much of it. so, which genre is your best? |
hilli666:things fall apart? the beautiful ones are not yet born? oliver twist? Haba! i beg to DEFIANTLY DISAGREE, i beg. |
@ poster this is the worst post I've read since becoming a part of nairaland, Seun should delete this and withdraw the posting right of whoever posted this. i wonder the kind of citizen a human being with such a poisonous mind would make. there is absolutely no sense in the belief that an igbo man is very greedy, gred is the nature of every human being, so saying that the igbo man is greedy is an indirect way of saying that they are the most populous race in the country. |
ElRazur:a bit selfish, methinks. ![]() |
this question has been nagging my mind for some time now: is there ever a good reason for banning okada riders from operation in any state in Nigeria, considering the fact that many of then have mouths to feed and have no other source of livelihood. please i need your reply. |
AyoB:Christ! i have not even read one of his books but it is in my immediate list, as in, i plan to buy it next. DEFINITELY. so would you rather i forget it or find out for myself? |
i can't ever forget Hadley Chase, the evergreen thriller maestro. as for the other authors, the problem is seeing their books in Aba, Nigeria, cos dats were i come from. |
please i live in Aba and i want to ask folks out there where i can get good novels in aba. thanks. |
Both of them are jolly good writers of separate genres or, better still, style. While Achebe considers, to a great extent, the use of simple diction as a way of sending his thoughts home, Soyinka literally “closes” his eyes and proves to whoever reads him that he is a master of The Word. So, for those who like simple diction, Achebe is the best, just like Soyinka is the darling of those in love with complicated and expensive diction. But in my opinion, with the Nobel Prize, Soyinka surely stole the show although Achebe has out-sold him. In terms of popularity Achebe is ultimate. Mind you, I’m very Igbo, not Ibo. |

One thing is to write while another is to write well. Sometimes, though, literary appreciation becomes a case of one man’s meat being another’s poison, or one man’s Indomie being another’s worm. But, seriously, are there writers whose specialty is churning out uninteresting books? I think so, though I can’t really name one of them just now. If you can, help. Which is the most uninteresting book you have read? |
please i want to know how i can register for unizik's post UME exam on line. i went to the bank and purchased a form for N1,000 and was instructed to go to the internet to fill a form but when i got to the Unizik website i could not find a field to fill the form, so i want to know if Unizik's form can be filled online? |
i am currently reading Flora Nwapa's Efuru (belated?), a very nice and interesting book, the next in the queue is Pat Conroy's Beach Dance -- i hope it, too, will be interesting. |
