ikamefa: ok we don hear, make we off pata?Rihanna and Chris Brown both said they aren't together. Even if they were i don't see a round 2, Chris is more Matured now and he doesn't want 2 go thru hell again. |
Katy Perry and Rihanna were best buds, but their friendship isn’t doing too well these days and Chris Brown may be to blame. According to the HuffintonPost, Rihanna’s relationship with Chris Brown has put a strain on her friendship with the “Part of Me” singer, and the two are “barely talking.” Sources close to Perry revealed “there has been tension” between the pop stars since Rihanna reunited with Brown, and she even skipped out on Perry’s recent Halloween party. According to the source, Perry, like many others, fear that Rihanna is ” making a huge mistake and doesn’t want to be part of it.” Perry and Rihanna were last spotted together at the MTV Video Music Awards in September — the same award show where Rihanna publicly planted a kiss on Brown, much to everyone’s surprise. The couple broke up after Brown assaulted the singer in 2009, but it’s since been rumored that the two have rekindled their friendship if not a full romantic relationship. It’s a decision that reportedly has Perry concerned for her friend, and it’s not the first time the friendship has been strained because of Brown. “We’ve had dinner, and that’s about it. I didn’t reach out to her after the incident,” she told MTV News in 2009 of Brown’s assault on Rihanna. “I think she is doing fine. I don’t know. Her personal life has probably already been blown out of proportion. I don’t really have to go into that. I’m sure she probably wants a break.” http://www.slipost.com/katy-perry-rihanna-rift-singers-have-fallout-over-chris-brown/

While Liberals were celebrating Obama’s reelection victory on Tuesday, some anti-Obama Republicans were busy on Twitter, posting vile, racist tweets against the President. While the President was giving a passionate speech, the conversations on Twitter went into crude stereotypes, ignorance, and blatant racism. Bigotry reared its ugly head, and a moment of triumph turned into a moment of head-shaking. It is quite sad to see something like this and thus it begs the question: When will racism stop in America? The tweets which were trending on the social network seemed to have originated from primary schools, secondary schools and university students. It is quite a pity to see our young ones engulfed in this and that calls up the question again: When will racism end? Warning: The tweets you’re about to read below are ignorant, offensive, and (due to the fact that they’re on a public forum) completely lack common sense http://www.slipost.com/anti-obama-republicans-flood-twitter-with-profane-racist-tweet/

A 62-year-old man, identified as Alabi Ibraheem, has been accused of having sex with his 10-year-old stepdaughter in Abeokuta. Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPR0), Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed incident, also described it as barbaric. The suspect was alleged to have committed the crime at the family residence located at Opara Estate, Aiyetoro Road, Abeokuta, and had since been evading arrest. Adejobi said that the man would soon be arrested and brought to justice. “The police totally condemn the act. He will not be spared. Thorough investigation shall be done and the man will be charged to court”, Adejobi said. The victim, (names withheld), while narrating her ordeal to the police, said her stepfather had been having carnal knowledge of her for some time. The primary six pupil told the police that the man always threatened to kill her if she informed anyone about the unholy act. “Daddy always sleeps with me whenever my mother is not around. He tells me not to inform anyone each time he sleeps with me”, she said. The girl, it was gathered, informed her siblings about the incident and her mother, Mrs Adiat Ibraheem, subsequently got wind of it. She reported the matter to the police. When policemen stormed Ibraheem's residence, the suspect had fled their home. Meanwhile, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Child Protection Network, has decided to pursue the case and ensure justice. http://www.slipost.com/62-year-old-man-defiles-his-10-year-old-stepdaughter-in-abeokuta/ |
Many Nigerians did not believe the existence of Illuminati in Nigeria and many believe it only exit in Nigerian Music Industry. But here is another hint: A few weeks ago Chelsea star, John Mikel ventured into the music business with his younger brother Patrick Obi and launched a record label “MMM” (Matured Money Minds). Few days ago a photo surfaced showing Mikel doing the Illuminati hand sign with a big smile on his face. Does that mean Illuminati’s really exist in Nigerian Music Industry? Emanuel Steward, earnest yet easygoing, proved rough and tough wasn’t the only way to win in boxing. With a twinkle in his eyes, a smile on his face and a soothing voice, Steward developed unique bonds in and out of the ring with a long line of champions that included Thomas Hearns, Lennox Lewis, Oscar De La Hoya and Wladimir Klitschko. Steward, owner of the Kronk Gym in Detroit and an International Boxing Hall of Fame trainer, died Thursday. He was 68. His executive assistant, Victoria Kirton, said Steward died Thursday at a Chicago hospital. She didn’t disclose the cause of death. “It is not often that a person in any line of work gets a chance to work with a legend, well I was privileged enough to work with one for almost a decade,” Klitschko said Thursday. “I will miss our time together. The long talks about boxing, the world, and life itself. Most of all I will miss our friendship.” Steward, whose father was a coal miner and mother was a seamstress, was born in West Virginia. He got boxing gloves as a Christmas present at the age of 8, the start of what would become a long career in the sweet science. He moved to the Motor City just before becoming a teenager and trained as an amateur boxer at Brewster Recreation Center, which once was the home gym of Joe Louis. Steward, at the age of 18, won the national Golden Gloves tournament as a bantamweight. Instead of trying to make it as a professional boxer, he went to work for the Detroit Edison Co. and in 1971 accepted a part-time position as head coach – for $35 per week – of the boxing program at the Kronk Recreation Center. A dynasty was born. The Kronk’s first professional champion was Hilmer Kenty, a lightweight from Columbus, Ohio, who started training there in 1978 and won the WBA title two years later. But It was Hearns who really put Kronk – and the trainer known as Manny – on the map. The boxer known as Hitman was the first man to win titles in four divisions – he won five overall – and topped his 155-8 amateur record by going 61-5-1 with 48 knockouts as a pro. Even though Steward had a lot of success with Hearns, some of his setbacks from his corner were among the most memorable in the sport. Hearns was knocked out in the 14th round by Sugar Ray Leonard in 1981 – Steward said that was the most painful experience of his life – and Hearns was on the short end of a three-round fight with Marvin Hagler in 1985 that is considered one of the best bouts in boxing history. “He brought the very, very best out of me,” Hearns once said of Steward. Hearns wasn’t alone. Steward trained, helped train or managed some of the greatest fighters – and some kids who just needed to get off the streets – of the past 40 years out of Kronk and in other facilities across the globe, putting fighters from many countries in red and gold trunks. “Lennox used to say when fighting as an amateur that everyone was afraid of the Kronk guys,” Steward once said. “He saw the respect when they saw the colors.” The gym for years was seen as a way to keep kids out of trouble in southwestern Detroit. “A lot of these kids would be in the streets,” Steward once said. “They live for this.” And, Steward lived for it, too. He loved boxing – and boxers – but like the Motor City, the gym he adored fell on hard times. The city closed the original Kronk Recreation Center – a hot, sweaty basement gym – after vandals stole its copper piping in 2006. It was allowed to remain open, but it put Steward in a difficult financial situation and he later rented space at a gym in Dearborn so his young fighters could train. “With the loss of Emanuel Steward, we have lost a true Detroit icon,” Detroit Mayor Dave Bing said. “Emanuel Steward embodied our city’s toughness, our competitive spirit, and our determination to always answer the bell. “We are grateful for Emanuel Steward’s many contributions to our city and his impact on generations of young people.” In the early years at Kronk, most of his fighters were black. In recent years, his melting pot of boxers included a Ukrainian heavyweight, an Irish middleweight and scores of young men from Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Middle East. Steward was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1996. “It brings me great grief and sadness to hear of the passing of one of the best and most respected trainers of this era,” De La Hoya said. “I learned a lot from him during our professional relationship and I will be forever grateful for his help during that time. We were also friends and I know I am going to miss him as so many others will, too. He was an important part of our boxing community.” Lewis, a former heavyweight champion, was trained by Steward from 1994 to 2004, a period which included victories over Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson. “This has been a very tragic year for the boxing world, but today we’ve truly lost one of its crown jewels,” Lewis wrote on his official website. “Manny always told me I was the best, but the truth is, he was the best and I’m grateful, privileged and honored to be counted among his many historic successes. “Manny was giving, selfless, compassionate and stern,” Lewis said. “I’m proud to have had him in my corner for so many years. … I’ll miss his smile, his frank no-holds-barred truthfulness and our discussions on boxing and life.” Steward also worked Klitschko, the current heavyweight champion, as recently as July when the boxer led 22,000 fans in singing “Happy Birthday,” to the beloved trainer. Klitschko had to train recently without Steward for his fight against Mariusz Wach next month in Germany “His spirit is always here,” Klitschko said. “I can hear his voice in sparring while doing things, whispering in my ear. As the famous saying goes, `The show must go on,’ and that’s exactly the case.” Steward also trained actor Wesley Snipes for his role as a boxer in “Undisputed” and appeared briefly with Lewis in “Ocean’s Eleven.” Steward worked since 2001 as a boxing analyst for HBO, sharing his rich knowledge of the sport and warm personality with a younger generation of fans. “Manny was a respected colleague who taught us so much not only about the sweet science but also about friendship and loyalty,” HBO Sports President Ken Hershman said. “His energy, enthusiasm and bright smile were a constant presence. Ten bells do not seem enough to mourn his passing.” HBO Sports commentator Jim Lampley – a friend of Steward’s since the early 1980s and broadcast partner for more than a decade – said Steward’s wisdom and common touch made him special. “He was the most loyal, generous, positive spirited, broadly accepting man I’ve ever known,” Lampley said. “He had a positive impact on everyone he encountered.” http://www.slipost.com/emanuel-steward-famed-boxing-trainer-dies-at-68/ |

THE HAGUE (AFP) – Four Nigerian farmers take on Shell in a Dutch court on Thursday, accusing the oil giant of destroying their livelihoods in a case that could set a precedent for global environmental responsibility. The civil suit, backed by lobby group Friends of the Earth, alleges that oil spills dating back to 2005 by the Anglo-Dutch company made fishing and farming in the plaintiffs’ Niger Delta villages impossible. The case was initially filed in 2008, demanding that Royal Dutch Shell clean up the mess, repair and maintain defective pipelines to prevent further damage and pay out compensation. In a landmark ruling, the Dutch judiciary in 2009 declared itself competent to try the case despite protests from Shell that its Nigerian subsidiary was solely legally responsible for any damage. “I inherited the fishponds from my late father. I lost my income due to the oil spill. Now we are struggling to make ends meet,” plaintiff Fidelis Oguru, the head of Oruma village, was quoted as saying by Friends of the Earth. Oil pollution has ravaged swathes of the Niger Delta in the world’s eighth largest oil producer, which exports more than two million barrels a day. Shell is the biggest producer in the west African country, where it has been drilling for over 50 years. Environmental groups accuse Shell of double standards and treating spills in Nigeria differently from pollution in Europe or North America. “The scale of the pollution is enormous: twice as much oil has been spilled in Nigeria than was in the Gulf of Mexico. Only there (Nigeria) it’s never been cleaned up,” Friends of the Earth Netherlands spokesman Geert Ritsema told AFP. The 2010 explosion and sinking of BP’s Deepwater Horizon rig led to around five million barrels of oil leaking into the Gulf of Mexico in the biggest ever marine spill. Shell says that spills in Nigeria are well below five million barrels and that the company cleans up whenever there is a leak, many of which it says are caused by sabotage. Environmentalists want the Netherlands, and other Western nations, to pass laws forcing companies to enforce the same environmental responsibility standards abroad as at home. If the Nigerians’ suit succeeds, it could lead to a flood of similar cases being brought before Dutch courts. Shell operates in over 90 countries, according to its website. Pop star Rihanna is reportedly telling friends that she wants to marry singer Chris Brown and that she should never have dumped him. The couple had parted ways before Brown was convicted of assaulting her in 2009. However, they are believed to be back together. "No one close to them would be a bit shocked if they suddenly eloped. Rihanna has told her close friends point blank - I would marry Chris," contactmusic.com quoted a source as saying. "She even says she would have never left him if the media scrutiny didn't get so bad. They're passionate, and when they're drunk, they've both made many comments about getting married," added the source. News that the on and off couple could exchange wedding vows comes after it was reported that Brown has given his ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran a generous payout following their split last week. He broke up with Tran over his friendship with Rihanna and to avoid any bad feelings, he offered the model money so she can buy herself a house. "Neither Rihanna nor Chris want to make things harder for her than they already are. Chris wants to set her up financially and do right by her - he wants her to stay in his life if possible," said a source. Source http://www.slipost.com/rihanna-wants-to-marry-chris-brown/

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. deaths surpassed 2.5 million for the first time last year, reflecting the nation’s growing and aging population. The increase of about 45,000 more deaths than in 2010 was not surprising. The annual number of deaths has been generally rising for decades as the population has swelled. “If you have an older population, of course you have more deaths,” said Qian Cai, a University of Virginia demographer who studies population trends. “That doesn’t mean the population is less healthy or less vital.” Before last year, the largest number of deaths was 2.47 million in 2008. The number of deaths can jump up or down from year to year, depending on whether there was a bad flu season or other factors. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released the report Wednesday. It’s drawn from a review of most death certificates from last year. The report found that the rate of deaths per 100,000 people actually dropped to an all-time low. That was offset by the fact that there are so many Americans — about 314 million. —U.S. life expectancy for a child born in 2011 was about 78 years and 8 months, the same as it was in 2010. —Women aren’t outliving men as much as they used to. The gap in life expectancy between the sexes, which was nearly 8 years at its widest in 1979, remained at less than 5 years in 2011. —The infant mortality rate dropped again slightly, to a new low of 6.05 deaths per 1,000 births. —Heart disease and cancer remain the top killers, accounting for nearly half the nation’s deaths. But the death rates from both continued to decline. —Death rates fell for three other leading causes: stroke, Alzheimer’s disease and kidney disease. —Flu and pneumonia became the 8th leading killer, replacing kidney disease. Also increasing were the death rates for diabetes, chronic lower respiratory diseases, chronic liver disease and cirrhosis, Parkinson’s disease, and pneumonitis. The rise in pneumonitis deaths is another sign of an aging population. Mainly in people 75 and older, it happens when food or vomit goes down the windpipe and causes deadly damage to the lungs. The increase in deaths is occurring at a time U.S. births have been falling for several years, but there more than enough newborns to replace Americans who die. The number of births last year was close to 4 million. Add in immigrants, and the total population is growing by 2 million to 3 million people a year. According to a newswire by Dow Jones published in Nasdaq, the social networking giantFacebook is planning to launch its own job board later this summer. This board will aggregate job listings of third-party providers and will make them available for search by Facebook users. https://blogs-images.forbes.com/tomiogeron/files/2012/01/facebook_logo2.png The social networking giant seems to be keen into taking its share in the $4.3 billion global online recruitment industry. Already three job posting companies such as BranchOut, Jobvite, and Work4 Labs have shown their interests about Facebook’s upcoming job board. Some companies have started telling their clients about the job board which may launch as soon as early August. People familiar with the matter said, the new attempt does not yet signal that Facebook is creating a full-blown entry into the recruiting market. The social network might be running down a test. It is also not clear whether the postings will be integrated into Facebook users’ news feed or whether the postings will only exist in a new section of the website. At present, Facebook has no plans to monetize from the service. But it would ultimately search for monetization options from the service if it proves to be a hit. http://www.techjay.com/2012/07/facebook-to-launch-job-posting-board.html |
