Car TalkRe: Why Do Nigerians Avoid Diesel Cars When Buying A Vehicle? by slinkky(m): 10:58pm On Sep 21, 2013
when did fuel become synonymous with petrol. I keep seeing some people on this thread saying fuel instead of petrol. As pointed out earlier by someone, fuel is anything that store potential energy, can be released by burning. So diesel, is also a form of fuel, the same way kerosene, ethanol, petrol, LPG charcoal, coke etc are

Foreign AffairsEgyptian President Overthrown By The Army by slinkky(op): 8:45pm On Jul 03, 2013
The Egyptian army has overthrown President Mohamed Morsi, announcing a roadmap for the country’s political future that will be implemented by a National Reconciliation Committee.

The head of Egypt's armed forces issued a declaration on Wednesday evening suspending the constitution and appointing the head of the constitutional court as interim head of state.

In a televised broadcast, flanked by military leaders, religious authorities and political figures, General Abdel
Fattah al-Sisi effectively declared the removal of elected Islamist President Mohamed Morsi.

Sisi called for presidential and parliamentary elections, a panel to review the constitution and a national reconciliation committee that would include youth movements. He said the roadmap had been agreed by a range of political groups.http://saharareporters.com/news-page/egypt-army-overthrows-president-morsi-al-jazeera

PoliticsABU Sack Randy Prof. by slinkky(op): 1:05pm On Jun 29, 2013
Professor David Kolo of the Ahmadu
Bello University (ABU) Zaria has
been dismissed from the institution
for sexually harassing one of his
female students, Weekly Trust
exclusively reports.
This followed the endorsement of
the recommendation of a disciplinary
committee set up to investigate
Professor Kolo of ABU’s faculty of
education by the governing council
of the university.
Kolo was earlier sentenced to two
months imprisonment by a court in
Jigawa State, after he was found
guilty of attempting to force his
female student to accept his sex
advances. The student, who is a
married woman, had through her
husband informed security agents.
An impeccable source, close to the
ABU’s governing council, said the
council had on Wednesday, during
its meeting, approved the dismissal
of the professor.
“You know the professor was queried
by the university authorities but he
refused to answer the query. He also
refused to honour the invitation of
the disciplinary committee that was
set up to investigate the issue. The
committee was left with no option
than to present its report to the
governing council after
investigation”, the source told
Weekly Trust.
“The governing council, which is the
body that is vested with powers of
employing and dismissing staff,
considered the report and approved
the dismissal of the professor. We
hope this would serve as deterrence
to other staff that may want to
engage in such acts of indiscipline,”
it added.
In his reaction to the whole episode,
the chairman of ABU-ASUU, Dr.
Muhammad Kabir Aliyu, said ASUU is
a responsible organization, and as
such it frowns at any act that would
demean the association.
“I heard about the setting up of the
council committee and the invitation
extended to the Professor, but I am
not a member. We always advise our
members not to engage in acts that
would demean their character and
that of our organization. Therefore,
we are not happy with what the
Professor did. I am not in town, so, I
did not hear about the dismissal,”
Dr. Aliyu said.
Mallam Ahmad Abdullahi Kundila,
the Ag Registrar of the university,
who doubles as the secretary of
ABU’s governing council, according
to our source, was assigned by the
council to serve the Professor with
the dismissal letter.
Malam Kundila was said to be very
busy at his office with administrative
matters when Weekly Trust visited
and his mobile phone was switched
off from morning to evening of
yesterday.
But some lecturers interviewed by
our correspondent at the main
campus of the university commended
the action of the council, saying that
other officials of the university that
engage in such acts would have a
lesson to learn.http://www.weeklytrust.com.ng/index.php/top-stories/13106-abu-sacks-prof-kolo-over-sexual-harassment

SportsKeshi Humbled By Eagles Confederation Cup Exit. by slinkky(op): 1:29pm On Jun 25, 2013
Super Eagles Head Coach,
Stephen Okechukwu Keshi,
was a sober figure after the
team lost 3-0 to Spain in its
last group game on Sunday
and thus crashed out of the
Confederations Cup in
Brazil.
SR Sports learned that the
manager has already
started a post mortem. He
is quoted as saying that
despite the confidence he
had expressed about
suitable replacements for
his injured players, it
turned out that injuries
actually determined the
fate of the Super Eagles at
the tournament.
“I can’t imagine that my
top striker Emmanuel
Emenike will miss some of
the goals that we missed
and even Ogenyi Onazi was
sorely missed,” a source
quoted him as saying,
“Victor Moses would have
ruined any team here and
of course several other
players that should have
been here could not make
it due to injuries. Among
them, United States-based
Bright Dike.”
Appealing to Nigerians to
forgive the team for the
less-than-average
performance at the
tournament, Keshi is
looking forward to the
World Cup, also in Brazil, in
2014. “We want to come
back here next year and
make an impact. This is a
dress rehearsal and I can
assure that the Super
Eagles will be among the
top nations when the Brazil
2014 World Cup starts.”
Keshi is further said to
have spoken about “fresh
options” for the national
team when the team
assembles for the final
World Cup group qualifing
match against Malawi in
September, but did not
specify what those options
are.
On his next challenge,
Keshi is preparing to work
to ensure that Nigeria
qualifies for the African
Nations championships
meant for players playing in
local African leagues
(CHAN).
“We would go back home
take a few days rest and
prepare for our CHAN
qualifiers against Cote
d’Ivoire in the coming days
and hopefully we should be
able to make it through,”
he said.http://mobile.saharareporters.com/sports-page/keshi-humbled-confed-cup-exit-promises-stronger-super-eagles
