EducationMalpractice: More Than 10,000 Candidates Caught In Anambra, Says JAMB - Educatio by smallJagaban(op):
The Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) says more than 10,000 candidates caught for examination malpractices in the on-going UTME in Anambra have been handed over to appropriate authority.

Mrs Lynda Nwachukwu, the Coordinator of the board in Anambra, disclosed this to newsmen in Awka on Saturday.

NAN reports that the all computer-based testing (CBT) mode 2017 UTME, which started on May 13 in 642 centres nationwide, ended on May 20.

Nwachukwu said that the examination, which took place in 28 centres in the state, was successful.

“There was no disruption of the exercise in any of the examination centres,’’ she said.

The coordinator said that the candidates adhered strictly to the requirements of the examination, adding that JAMB provided all the materials required for the examination.

NAN correspondent, who monitored the last batch of the examination, reports that some parents complained of system failure in some CBT centres in the state.

Mrs Eucharia Okonkwo, a parent, said her daughter, who wrote the examination at the St Mary’s High School Ifite-Dunu centre, could not complete the examination due to the faulty computer and network failure at the centre.

According to her daughter, many candidates could not complete the questions in record time because of the faulty system.

Okonkwo advised JAMB to plan well for examination in subsequent years to avoid the technical hitches that could give the candidates psychological trauma.

Dr. Mose Mojekeh, Head, Department of Marketing at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, told NAN on a telephone, that such system failure in UTME was not acceptable.

According to him, the hiccups could potentially deny young people from Anambra State, university admission.

Mojekeh advised JAMB to urgently collate the number of candidates affected and set another examination for them.

He also decried the practice whereby JAMB sends officials from one state to supervise examinations in another state.

“Experience has shown that such officials do not care much about the candidates when problems arise, as they leave them to their fate,’’ the lecturer said.

He called on the management of schools, whose candidates experienced the computer failure, to take their complaints to the State Ministry of Education to present their cases.

NAN reports that the JAMB concluded its CBT on May 20.

Like i side this is an interesting topic and i agree with the writer wholeheartedly. Lagos has been Nigeria's bride for a very long time and this has affected the growth and development of other Nigerian cities. The only cities that have seen to enjoy some form of attention are Abuja because it's Nigeria's new capital and Port-hacourt because it's the headquarter of the oil industry. But i think right now, we have to blame Lagos less and put the blame squarely on the federal government which has refused to practice a true federal system where no state should be dependent on the federal government. That way the states will get creative and carve a niche for themselves. Right now, everybody is lazy because they get monthly stipends from the federation account. Lagos is lucky because it was already set for greatness before Nigeria started falling apart. So, it has used that unique advantage to grow even more than ever before. Ogun state is supposed to use it's closeness to Lagos to also create something for itself but the governments of Ogun state from Osoba till now have not been ambitious. The spill off from Lagos into Ogun state is just a natural phenomenon. The Ogun state government have had no hand in it. Since Lagos is becoming choked, it's only natural for people to spread out to where there's and.

Ojukwu would have remained much of a rallying point but the crisis in APGA reduced the chances. Because of the crisis that the Igbo people have found themselves in, Ralph Uwazuruike used the slogan of Biafra which rallied much of the youth around him. Then Nnamdi Kanu emerged with Radio Biafra and began to speak the language the very frustrated youths would want to hear.

PoliticsVideo: Dino Melaye Declines To Answer Whether He Graduated From Harvard, Afraid by smallJagaban(op): 8:45pm On Apr 01, 2017
One of Nigeria’s most controversial senators, Dino Melaye, during a live television interview today declined to answer whether he graduated from Harvard University. The senator, who had previously claimed that he earned degrees from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts and London School of Economics (LSE) in London, ducked pointed questions on the veracity of his claim during an interview on Friday on Channels Television. The senator, who hails from Kogi State, refused to give an answer, telling the presenter that he did not want to be ridiculed

The anchor of the program, “Politics Today,” Seun Akinbaloye, asked Melaye, “Did you graduate from Harvard? You said you have seven degrees altogether.” Instead of offering a definite answer, Mr. Melaye went on a petty attack on another guest featured in the program. After his rigmarole, the anchor fired a related question, “Did you have certificate now?” When Senator Melaye answered, “Yes,” the anchor followed up with, “Did you have a certificate course in Harvard or you had a degree course in Harvard?”

Rather than answer the question, Mr. Melaye went on a digression. “I believe in investigative journalism, and I am not going to be ridiculed on the platform of a television station,” he said. He added: “It is not a question and answer series, whatever I have is mine.”

Officials at Harvard University and London School had told SaharaReporters that Mr. Melaye never received any degree from their respective institution. Mr. Melaye’s refusal to answer the direct question about his academic relationship with the two foreign-based universities may signal his decision to walk away from his earlier unfounded claims to being a graduate of both prestigious universities.

PoliticsWhy We Can’t Relocate From Lagos To Akwa Ibom – Exxonmobil by smallJagaban(op): 10:54pm On Mar 11, 2017
The American oil giant, ExxonMobil, has explained why it cannot move its head office in Nigeria, from Lagos to Akwa Ibom State where the company produces oil.

The demands for International Oil Companies, IOCs, in Nigeria to relocate their head offices from Lagos to the Niger Delta region resurfaced recently during the acting President Yemi Osinbajo’s tour of the troubled region.
During his visit to Akwa Ibom, Mr. Osinbajo directed the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, “to engage” with the IOCs “on the way forward” over the calls for their relocation.

The acting president’s directive was seen as a major boost to campaigns by Niger Delta States to have oil companies relocate to their states of operation.

But ExxonMobil, in a response to a similar demand on it some 12 years ago, had said that the relocation of its head office to Akwa Ibom wouldn’t have “a significant impact” on the state, and also that such movement “was not practical for a number of reasons”.

In a 2005 letter addressed to a U.S-based Nigerian environment activist, Tom-Mbeke Ekanem, the oil company said, “Mobil has three businesses in Nigeria which are managed by one Lead Country Manager. It is essential that the headquarters of each of those businesses be consolidated in one office where support services can be shared.

“Lagos offers each of those businesses a convenient and well-suited hub from which all three businesses can be efficiently conducted and coordinated by that manager.”

The letter was written from the ExxonMobil’s international headquarters, Texas, in the U.S, and signed by the then Public Affairs Manager, Fred Marshall.
Mr. Ekanem published the letter on Friday on an Internet discussion group, Ibom Forum.

The company said another reason why they wouldn’t relocate their head office was that their “primary federal government contacts in Nigeria” were based in Lagos.
It said that Akwa Ibom was still getting huge benefits from its operation, despite the company’s head office being in Lagos.

“The majority of MPN’s business activity is centered in Akwa Ibom. MPN’s operational headquarters are in QIT, Ibeno, where about 80 percent of MPN employees are based,” Mr. Marshall said in the letter.

“MPN also has a liaison office in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom, to facilitate interactions with the state government.

“Additionally, the majority of our community assistance is focused on Akwa Ibom.

“Another consideration is that MPN participates in a joint venture in which the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has a 60 percent interest. Hence, the majority of any relocation cost would be primarily borne by NNPC.”

PREMIUM TIMES contacted Ogechukwu Udeagha, the Manager, Media and Communications, in Mobil, to find out what is the company’s position on the current agitation, but he declined comment.

During Mr. Osinbajo’s visit to Akwa Ibom, one of the speakers who made a case against the federal government, Mobil and other IOCs operating in the state was Nduese Essien, a former minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development.

Mr. Essien told the acting president, “Apart from the 13 per cent oil derivation money paid to the state government, the oil producing communities in Akwa Ibom have nothing to show for several years of oil exploration in the state.

“The federal government has shown no interest in meaningful development and presence in the areas, other than providing policemen and other security personnel in the area.

“They only provide policemen and other security to ensure that oil flows uninterrupted in the area.
“The oil services companies come from outside Akwa Ibom with their workers whose taxis are paid to their places of residence. The auxiliary benefits and the multiplier effects of operating in the oil producing area are therefore lost.”

Mr. Essien said the story of oil exploration in the state was “the story of woes”, and added that the state was exceptionally peaceful in the Niger Delta region because the elders prevailed

Californians to decide on seceding from the United State

Supporters of the campaign for California to secede from the United States can now begin collecting the hundreds of thousands of signatures they need to get a proposed "Calexit" initiative on the ballot.

If the measure gets on the ballot and gains approval by a majority of voters, it would repeal clauses in the California Constitution stating that the state is an "inseparable part of the United States" and that the U.S. Constitution is the "supreme law of the land," according to the title and summary prepared by the state attorney general's office.

The measure would place another question on the ballot in 2019, asking whether California should become a separate country. If at least half of registered voters participate in that vote, with at least 55% of those voting to approve, the results would be treated as California's declaration of independence.

California voted heavily in favour of Hillary Clinton, and is home to a large population of immigrants who would be affected by President Trump's proposals regarding them.
