PoliticsOndo 2020 : Jegede Jinxed By The Choice Of Running Mate by Smart360News(op): 2:43pm On Aug 19, 2020
The news that Mr Eyitayo Jegede, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday submitted the name of Hon. Gboluga Ikengboju, a member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency, to the national chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus in Abuja as his running mate will do no small damage to his aspiration of becoming the next governor of Ondo Stat That choice has also done a huge damage to the chances of the opposition People's Democratic Party ( PDP) to produce the next helmsman of the Sunshine State.

Jegede made the last minute replacement of his running mate in order to meet up with INEC's deadline for the substitution of the names of candidates and their running mates for the election.

Hon. Ikengboju replaces Mr Olumide Ogunje whose name was earlier submitted to INEC as a surrogate candidate.

Every observer and political analyst would noticed that since Eyitayo Jegede SAN become the flag bearer of the PDP, he has put on three togas: one as the supreme leader of the party; second as an ordained governor, third and most irritating is his vaque sense of entitlement.

Jegede feels that everyone is indebted to him and that's just an illusion of grandeur.

Sadly, Jegede has also become so vindictive that he doesn't see anyone who didn't work for him during the primary election as a member of his team. No doubt, Mr Jegede has broken all known political traditions and arrangements by the choice of his running mate.

Not only that Ikengboju Gboluga is not popular amongst his people, Okitipupa local government are where he hails from has produced two deputy governors in persons of Dr Olusegun Agagu and Afolabi Iyatan. But Ilaje, Irele, Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo and Odigbo local government areas in the same senatorial zone are yet to produce a deputy governor.

Our cocky Senior Advocate of Nigeria has by his choice of running mate shove
aside all aboriginal members of the party. He has succeeded in turning the PDP to Jegede's caucus. For the committed members of the PDP who are still in doubt about Mr Jegede's total hijack of the party can confirm from those who worked for other aspirants in the last primary election.

It's obvious that with the choice of Ikengboju Gboluga, Mr Eyitayo Jegede SAN, has gotten a ruining mate and not a running mate. His ambition and aspiration is heading towards a rock.

PoliticsOndo 2020: A Two Horse Race by Smart360News(op): 2:35pm On Aug 19, 2020
By Allen Sowore

As the October 10 Ondo Governorship Election approaches, it's becoming crystal clear that the election is a two-horse race between the incumbent governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN who's the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) and his Deputy, Agboola Ajayi, the candidate of the people's force, Zenith Labour Party (ZLP)

Although, the People's Democratic Party (PDP), which was before now the major opposition party in the state and other political parties have presented their candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to participate in the election. Unspoken political arrangements, traditions and what both Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and his Deputy Agboola stand for remains the major issues to be decided upon by the people.

It is a known fact in the political history of the state that the governorship seat, whether by happenstance or deliberate political arrangements, rotates among the three senatorial districts. In other words, by that extant arrangement, the district that produces the current Deputy Governor is the zone expected to produce the next governor. This expectation built on tradition puts Honourable Alfred Agboola Ajayi in good standing in the forthcoming election.

Similarly, it has become an unbroken political jinx in Ondo State for the incumbent governor to lose to an emerging opposition. In 2003, Adebayo Adefarati lost his reelection bid to Dr Olusegun Agagu. In 2007, by the implication of the judgement of the Court of Appeal in Benin, Dr Olusegun Agagu didn't win his reelection. It's only Dr Olusegun Mimiko who has enjoyed the uncommon grace of governing Ondo State for two terms of eight years. Even at that, his political party, the PDP lost the 2016 Governorship election to the APC.

I simply do not want to comment on how PDP squandered its golden opportunity to produce the next governor of Ondo State because I may be accused of bias, sophistry and prejudice. But those who appear to be more interested in raising a candidate and not the governor every election circle can explain better.

The mere fact that no single human being has decamped either from the SDP or even Accord Party to the PDP since the announcement of its candidate speaks volume. The torrent of attacks and vetuperations against the national leader of the Zenith Labour Party, who's also a former governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko by Akeredolu and his jittery camp has clearly shown that the incumbent is aware that the ZLP stands formidable and it's strategically ready to wrestle power from him.

The Deputy Governor has said it often, that the disagreement between him and the governor was not personal. It's rather about the government's policies and decisions which affect the lives of the people. Whether to over tax the people or not; whether to make tertiary education affordable or not; whether to neglect dependable health care or commercialize it, it's about whether to impoverish the people or empower them, whether to run government through kleptomaniac family members, clan and cabal; these are the contentious issues.

On the surface, the PDP has a candidate. But the real contest is between Akeredolu and Ajayi. The good people of the state must take decision whether to continue with this clannish government or to liberate our dear state. The people must decide whether to return government to its original owners (the people) or to leave it in the hands of profiteers in borrowed, blemished robes.

The people have a choice to make in October 2020.

PoliticsI Am Propelled By The Call To Serve, Agboola Ajayi by Smart360News(op): 8:21pm On Aug 14, 2020
The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon Agboola Ajayi on Friday said the call of the teeming mass of Ondo State stand at the foundation of his aspiration to the office of Governor of Ondo State.

Speaking in Akure on Friday, Agboola said he joined the Zenith Labour Party to put practical effect to the expectations of the people who obviously are not enamored by the options offered by the two major parties.

Agboola who said the party primaries of the two major parties characterized by the victory of subterfuge over and above democratic norms made his throwing his hat into the ring on the more credible Zenith Labour Party platform.

Speaking at a well attended, but COVID 19 compliant event, held at the ZLP State Secreatriat, Agboola said: “It is obvious that the affirmation of incumbent governor as the candidate of the APC coupled with the seeming failure of the PDP to produce a dependable and formidable alternative has dampened the democratic enthusiasm and morale of the people.

“To stir hope and rechannel the energy of the progressive electorates, I am teaming up with members of the ZLP, my teeming allies from both the PDP and APC and allies from the other parties.”
The Deputy Governor said “he was humbled by calls, advice and demands from critical stakeholders, supporters and most importantly, the generality of the people to consider himself as the arrow head of a new dependable, credible and vibrant alternative alliance for a desirable leadership for the state.”

He said after critically analyzing the terrain, he found the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) as the dependable platform to rescue Ondo State from a lacklustre, nepotistic and clannish leadership.

“Today, I formally join the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), to achieve the noble cause of giving Ondo State a new direction and purposeful leadership. I call on all my teeming supporters, friends, followers and the admirers of good governance to show commitment and dedication by mobilizing and campaigning for the Zenith Labour Party in their various wards across the state.

“The collective wish and yearnings of the good people of Ondo State remain the impetus for the bid to wrestle the governance of the state from political demagogue,” he concluded.

He was received by the State Chairman of the ZLP, Hon Joseph Akinlaja ably supported by other leaders drawn from across the State.
He told the people that the masses oriented, pro people agenda of the ZLP will be vigorously pursued under the Agboola dispensation.
He therefore welcomed all those joining with the Deputy Governor.

PoliticsHot Video: Ondo CJ Rejects Assembly's Request To Impeachment Deputy Governor by Smart360News(op): 11:29am On Jul 10, 2020
PoliticsOndo Deputy Governor Media Adviser, Allen Sowore Writes Ondo Chief Judge by Smart360News(op): 11:51am On Jul 08, 2020
Letter To The Chief Judge Of Ondo State

My Lord,
Justice O.O. Akeredolu,
Chief Judge of Ondo State,
Akure.

Uphold The Integrity Of Your Office!

The founding value of our constitution is the enshrinement of the supremacy of the constitution and the rule of law. This creates an ideal legal world, which your good office has the task of translating into reality as envisaged by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999. In a nutshell the calling of your office is to uphold the integrity and supremacy of the constitution.

In an ideal democracy, all power, especially state power, must be exercised under law and according to the dictates of law. If law governs power then it should be able to regulate those that are subject to it. The constitution of our country and the values in it, stand supreme – above the legislature, the executive and above all judicial officers.

Like never before, as the Chief Judge of Ondo State, the move by the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu to remove the deputy governor, Hon. Agboola Ajayi from office through the State House of Assembly gives you a vital opportunity to uphold the integrity of Ondo State judiciary and its independence.

This open letter is coming to you at this auspicious time because of the sacred role you may have to play in the imminent plan by the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN to remove his Deputy, Alfred Agboola Ajayi by all means possible and at all cost. The government's position is not hidden; it is already in the public space.

It's needless mentioning the level of desperation which Mr Governor has show on this vexatious matter because history already has a place for his hypocritical stance in the law profession being a former President, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA). But your lordship, you have a name and integrity to protect. The cerebral Chinua Achebe once said that: "One of the truest tests of integrity is its blunt refusal to be compromised."

If there's any time the good people of Ondo State need your integrity, it's now! And the reason is not farfetched as the Governor has succeeded in compromising his party's leadership in the state; the legislature. However, we, the people of Ondo State, still hold this believe that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man.

Your Lordship, the point here is that the impeachment process initiated by fourteen (14) members of the 9th session of the Ondo State House of Assembly on 7th July,, 2020, is dead on arrival. This is because simultaneously, nine (9) members of the same Assembly jointly signed a resolution disassociating themselves from the whole process. The implication of the action of the nine parliamentarians is that the planned impeachment of the Deputy Governor cannot proceed beyond the signed notice of impeachment.
For clarity, section 188(4) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which put a stop at the process is produced below:

A motion of the House of Assembly that the allegation be investigated shall not be declared as having been passed unless it is supported by the votes of not less than two-thirds majority of the all the members of the House of Assembly

The pertinent question therefore is, what's the votes of not less than two-thirds majority of all the members of the House of Assembly- 2/3 of 26 = 18. When nine (9) is substracted from twenty six (26) the result is seventeen (17). It is a settled principle of law ‘that one cannot build something on nothing” as the whole edifice will collapse.

All discerning minds in Ondo State know today, that the next line of action is that the Governor in his desperation will bring into full force the enomous power and influence of his office to bear on Your Lordship to join in this illegal arrangements to oust the Deputy Governor. He will attempt to force Your Lordship to appoint a panel of seven persons to do the hatchet job.

Your Lordship, please do not compromise so that history will be kind to you. History, we say, will surely vindicate the just and the wicked will surely be punished.

PoliticsWhat If Akeredolu Is A Medical Doctor, Will It Make Any Difference? by Smart360News(op): 7:17am On Jul 08, 2020
1. Dear Sir, I was really happy when I heard the news of your recovery because I prayed for you. I also saw the video where you were talking to your friends that #COVID19 is nothing serious when you were in isolation, that is what a true leader will do so as not to cause panic among the citizens.

2. Even though we all know that the pandemic is serious and should be handled as one, that is why I commend your prompt action in finding another General that will lead the State in a war against #COVID19 sir. How can I forget your efforts that brought about the mass production of facemasks for the good people of Ondo State, great one Sir. Sir, I am also aware that some days, you go around town yourself to make sure people are compliant with wearing their Face masks and obeying the curfew, you're doing well sir, just to mention a few.

3. Your Excellency sir, your approach towards this pandemic is not strong enough and you made some missteps that can still be corrected to save the lives of the good citizens of Ondo State;
a. When I suggested total lock down when we still had like 10 cases, I wish you had acted upon it then and introduced "Ka Jeun Aketi" but you implementing that idea few weeks ago is like medicine after death sir.
b. You are not treating the health workers right sir and that is not too good sir! Sacking of health workers in the State recently is another wrong move sir, not in a time like this.
c. General Hospitals are not well equipped, no PPE for health workers, people that are the frontliners in this war!
d. 7pm to 7am curfew among other policies like stating market days looks like a child's play sir.
e. Copying the approach of Oyo State Government while you can just adopt that of the proactive Ekiti State Government in your fight against #COVID19. Just to mention a few.

4. No doubt Ondo State will hit 600 cases this week and we may have 1500 cases few weeks from here if you don't do the needful sir.
Here are my suggestions;
a. Employ Doctors and Nurses, but I'll suggest that the first thing to do is to absorb all the RN and RM from School of Nursing, UNIMED that are willing to work into State Civil Service (HMB precisely).
b. I'll suggest you use Force to make sure people comply with the stipulated days for opening markets.
c. If I suggest Total lockdown now, of course I know you wouldn't agree to that; so I'll suggest Total Lockdown after APC and PDP primary elections for at least 1 week sir.
d. Ekiti had their first index case before Ondo and they don't even have up to 50 cases now, here we are close to 500. I'll suggest you discuss with your friend at Ekiti and let him share ideas with you on how he has been able to manage the pandemic.

5. I will keep engaging your aides and write you letters when it is necessary. I'm of the opinion that had it been you are a Doctor, you may have handled this pandemic differently. But then, I listened to one of your conversations with a king in Ondo State and I noticed through that audio that Human Lives matters to you too and you truly care, that gives me assurance that you'll do the right thing sir.

6. Lastly, accept my condolences for losing one of your commissioners at a critical time like this, I really hope you will compensate the hardworking, dutiful and intelligent Wife with SSA in due time because I feel she deserves it.

7. Thank you. God bless Ondo State and heal our land, Amen.

PoliticsIllegal Impeachment: Akeredolu Suffers Setback As Nine Members Signed Against Mo by Smart360News(op): 1:14pm On Jul 07, 2020
Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu's planned illegal Impeachment of his Deputy, Agboola Ajayi suffers setback as nine (9) members signed against the move.

PoliticsLmpeachment Plan : Ondo Deputy Governor Drags Assembly To Court by Smart360News(op): 7:41am On Jul 07, 2020
The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon Agboola Ajayi, on Monday dragged the State House of Assembly to court over his planned impeachment by the lawmakers of the state.

There are fears that the State House of Assembly may begin the impeachment process against Ajayi on Tuesday for leaving the ruling party to opposition.

But Ajayi through his lawyer filed the suit seeking to halt the impeachment proceeding and enforce his fundamental right of association.
Aside the House of Assembly, the suit filed by his lawyers has the Inspector General of Police, State Commissioner Of Police, Department of State Services (DSS) and the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr David Oleyeloogun as defendants.
The suit filed by Mr I. Olatoke SAN seeks to enforce the fundamental right of the Deputy Governor to retain his position having defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to People ‘s Democratic Party (PDP).

PoliticsRe - I Can’t Handover Government To My Deputy by Smart360News(op): 12:49pm On Jul 04, 2020
The attention of the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Agboola Ajayi has again been drawn to a statement credited to Commissioner for Information, Ondo State, Mr Donald Ojogo in which he ignorantly proclaimed that Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu would not hand over the running of government to his Deputy because of political differences.

The venoms and vetuperations constantly oozing from Mr Ojogo in his unbridled desire and fruitless efforts to desecrate the constitutionally established Office of the Deputy Governor of Ondo state clearly show the excruciating pains and whammies which the exit of the deputy governor must have caused them.

Ordinarily, one expects Mr Governor to bring to bear on governance his background as a lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, (SAN). But it is rather surprising and worrisome that the Governor has chosen the part of perversion of justice, by allowing his close aides to go astray in a matter of constitutionality.

Section 190(2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) is apposite in the prevailing constitutional abberration in Ondo State. On our part, we will continue to pray fervently for Mr Governor's quickest recovery.

However, it should be noted, that Mr Governor is at liberty to handover or not within 21 days after which the constitution becomes operational.

Ostensibly, the refusal and failure of Mr Governor to handover the running of government to his deputy while he is temporarily incapacitated in self- isolation underscore his absolute disregard for our nation's supreme document, 1999 Constitution (as amended) as well as the tenets of rule of law. The Governor's position is a spite on the Ondo State people and a direct assault on the provisions of the constitution which he swore to uphold.

Governor Akeredolu's deliberate mounting of obstacles to smooth running of government machinery while he's in self isolation as a result of the fact that he has been tested positive for the COVID-19 privileges the hypocratical nature of Ondo State government's war against the ravaging pandemic.

Our candid advice is that the energy which the Akeredolu' government is decipating on pulling down the office and person of the deputy governor should be channelled towards resolving the lingering crisis in the health sector particularly, the current strike embarked on by medical practitioners in the state, in the middle of this pandemic. Nobody will take us seriously in the state on our COVID19 efforts when doctors are on strike; we are only pretending to be fighting a pandemic. The state of things in our health sector only indicates that we're taking the health of the people for granted.

The assertion by the commissioner that the Deputy Governor is a threat to good governance is illusionary and diversionary. In real sense, the Commissioner might actually be suffering from amnesia in a manner of typical of those entrusted with hatchet jobs.

The Deputy Governor of Ondo State , Hon. Agboola Ajayi has a track record of performance in the various offices he has held - first as supervisory Councillor, LG Chairman, Member of the National Assembly - where he served as the chairman of the House Committee on NDDC and even now as the Deputy Governor.

Nothing serves as threat to good governance than the current nepotism and lackadaisical attitude towards the prioritisation of Ondo State people's welfare.

It's imperative to inform the general public that, Mr Governor and members of his kitchen cabinet have deliberately barred the Deputy Governor from all government activities as all the daily itinerary and work schedules released from Chief Of Protocols, have not allocated any function or duty to the person or office of the Deputy Governor in recent time.

The Deputy Governor empathises with the good people of Ondo State, at this critical period, when Mr Governor has personalised the administration and governance of our dear state.

PoliticsOndo Deputy Governor Cries Out Over The Withdrawal Of Police Escort By CP by Smart360News(op): 5:17pm On Jun 24, 2020
The Ondo State Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Agboola Ajayi wishes to raise alarm over the withdrawal of his police escort on the order of the Commissioner of Police, Mr Bolaji Salami putting his life, family and staff in danger.

This is the same Commissioner of Police that took the Deputy Governor hostage on Saturday 21st of June, 2020 for more than four hours at the Government House gate despite the fact that he enjoys immunity under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

We are not oblivious of their surreptitious move to undermine the security of the Deputy Governor and strip him of his security apparatus to make him venerable in order to carry out their evil agenda.

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and the Director General of State Security Service, Yusuf Magaji Bichi should be aware of this latest ugly development in Ondo State.
Should anything happen to the Deputy Governor, his family and staff, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State should be held responsible.

Babatope Okeowo
Chief Press Secretary.

PoliticsDigída Jéyefò By Allen Sowore by Smart360News(op): 7:21am On Jun 24, 2020
If you know the ways of animals; you would know the way of men. More often, I embrace these analogies and folktales to drive home my points. It's my own way of complying with the idea of local content.

Digída Jéyefò is that very act a bird will perform when the branch of tree it leaning on falls. A bird does not share in casualties of the trees. Bi Ìdí bati bàjé..

The season of politicking has come. Politicians will align and realign. As it's often said, in politics, no permanent friend or enemy but permanent interest. So, it was a milestone in the political history of Ondo State as the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi formally joined the PDP at Kiribo, his hometown few days ago.

The challenges of this is that, supporters, followers and aides of the principal actors will continue to act and react to issues as it affects their principal. That's why the police could issue statement to justify what's a clear rape of our democratic gains. Similar to this is the perfidy of government officials who have embark on fruitless efforts to justify; or sometime attempt to persuade, dissuade and conscript the people to believe in the course they have chosen.

The effect is this press statement and wisecrack which expose official braggadocios. Almost akin to the character of the poem the- 'Executioner' by Elliott Paul Woolhouse. " I am the Executioner, I am proud to kill. The one with the axe. Governance has never been at this ebb. Where's the concept of the ideals of our forebears. The ideals of Omolúwàbí ?

I have argued else where that If we have imbibed the tenets of democracy as we professed it, such a character, a mere appendage who superintended the deprivation of the constitutional rights of an elected Deputy Governor should be in gaol.

In constitutional democracy, the people matter. There's this plenitopotenciary of government, with this unlimited powers intimidating all. With this nonchalant attitude- " I don care attitude". The people can go to hell. Ati ti òjébo Olorisalowo.

The fact is, this characters exist and thrive in governance. They're the same gang who can enter the market and destroy the goods of the poor market widows with impunity.

On account of education and knowledge, the character would boast.Uncle, what's knowledge without character. Some, leverage on experience, beaurocracies. Mr Technocrat ! Digí Jéyefò

Our Oga is a good man as the husband of his wife and father of his children. But as the presiding officer, he's surrounded by these characters, who are opposed to democratic principles. Those who are in for business. Those who believe in what they can get. Those who believe in the imposition of higher tax. When you preside over a rich state and imporerish the people, you will only succeed as a rich individual among the poor- Olówó kan larin àwon Òtòsì. Is that the essence of governance ? Government now becomes the nightmare of the people.

This character once existed as the chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission,(OSOPADEC)
I remember that political playboy. The man who managed the patrimony of the people but yet abhors to live among them. Our brother is like that.

So, this character will call the APC nonsense political party. The APC produced government of Ondo State as far as we know is still your feeding bottle. And you're sucking it like a baby. Yet, at every opportunity you talk down on her people. Our women are bleaching pigs. Education is supposed to refine a man.

His frequent declaration of this political hegemony as nonsensical reminds me of the Ghanaian novelist, Ayi Kwei Armah's "Chichidodo bird " in 'The Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born'. Chichidodo bird that detests excreta but eats maggots from it. . He's boastful of knowledge but lacks character. What's knowledge without character.

He pretends to be principled but yet carries out all hatchet jobs. This nonchalant attitude can only be executed by this character- Dígidá Jéyefò and not a stakeholder. A political stakeholder will think about the future, when he will need the people.

Get me right, the concept of Dígidá Jéyefò has nothing to do with citizen or denizen. The example of Chief Guy Gargiulo abounds . The former European Principal of Ajuwa Grammar School, Akoko. He left England for Igbobi College in Lagos in 1963 and later proceeded to Ajuwa Grammar School in 1971.

During his stewardship as the school’s Principal, Ajuwa Grammar School, which was battling for life rose back as one of the best in the area.

After his retirement from service, Gargiulo stayed back in Okeagbe and later came to live in Ugbe Akoko where he chose to embark on philanthropic gestures. That's how not to be- Dígidá Jéyefò.

Until we're able to find enough courageous men in the corridor of power, we will continue to be victims of some of the Seven Social Sins mentioned first by an Anglican priest named Frederick Lewis Donaldson which Gandhi made popular in his publication, Young India. The worst of those society ills bedeviling us today- Knowledge without character and politics without principles.
