The shroud is rectangular, measuring approximately 4.4 × 1.1 m(14.3 × 3.7 ft). The cloth is woven in a three-to-one herringbone twillcomposed of flaxfibrils. Its most distinctive characteristic is the faint, brownish image of a front and back view of a naked man with his hands folded across his groin. The two views are aligned along the midplane of the body and point in opposite directions. The front and back views of the head nearly meet at the middle of the cloth. [21] The image of the "Man of the Shroud" has a beard, moustache, and shoulder-length hair parted in the middle. He is muscular and tall (various experts have measured him as from 1.70 m, or roughly 5 ft 7 in, to 1.88 m, or 6 ft 2 in). [22]Reddish brown stains are found on the cloth, showing various wounds that, according to proponents, correlate with the yellowish image, the pathophysiology of crucifixion, and the Biblical description of the death of Jesus. [23] Forensic doctors have interpreted markings on the cloth as follows: [24] *.one wrist bears a large, round wound, apparently from piercing(the second wrist is hidden by the folding of the hands) *.upward gouge in the side penetrating into the thoracic cavity. *.small punctures around the forehead and scalp *.scores of linear wounds on the torso and legs. *.swelling of the face *.streams of blood down both arms The details of the image on the shroud are not easily seen with the naked eye, but they can be more clearly revealed through photography. In May 1898 Italian photographer Secondo Piawas allowed to photograph the shroud. He took the first photograph of the shroud on 28 May 1898. Pia was startled by the visible image of the negative plate, implying that the shroud is effectively a negative of some kind. [24]Pia was at first accused of doctoring his photographs, but he was vindicated in 1931 when another photographer, Giuseppe Enrie, photographed the shroud and obtained results similar to Pia's. [25]In 1978, ultraviolet photographswere taken of the shroud. [26] [27] The shroud was damaged in a fire in 1532 in the chapel in Chambery, France. There are some burn holes and scorched areas down both sides of the linen, caused by contact with molten silver during the fire that burned through it in places while it was folded. [28]Fourteen large triangular patches and eight smaller ones were sewn onto the cloth by Poor Clarenuns to repair the damage. |
Secondo Pia's 1898 negative of the image on the Shroud of Turin has an appearance suggesting a positive image. It is used as part of the devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus. Image from Musée de l'Élysée, Lausanne.

TheShroud of TurinorTurin Shroud( Italian:Sindone di Torino,Sacra Sindone [ˈsaːkra ˈsindone]orSanta Sindone) is a length of linencloth bearing the image of a man that is believed by some Christians to be the burial shroud of Jesus of Nazareth. Three radiocarbon datingtests in 1988 have concluded that the age of the cloth only goes back to the Middle Ages. [1]The shroud is keptin the royal chapel of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptistin Turin, northern Italy. The shroud is respected by many Christians of several traditions, including Catholics and Protestants. [2]The Catholic Churchhas neither formally endorsed nor rejected the shroud, but in 1958 Pope Pius XIIapproved of the image in association with the devotionto the Holy Face of Jesus. [3]More recently, Pope Francisand his predecessor Pope Benedict XVIhave both described the Shroud of Turin as "an icon" [4]and Pope John Paul IIcalled the Shroud "a mirror of the Gospel". [5] The origins of the shroud and its images are the subject of intense debate among theologians, historians and researchers. Diverse arguments have been made in scientific and popular publications claiming to "prove" that the cloth is the authentic burial shroud of Jesus, based on disciplines ranging from chemistry to biology and medical forensics to optical image analysis. In 1988, a radiocarbon dating testdated the shroud from the Middle Ages, between the years 1260 and 1390, which is consistent with the shroud's first known exhibition in France in 1357. [6]Aspects of the 1988 test continue to be debated, [7] [8] [9]but all the various challenges to the dating result have been refuted by experts based on scientific analyses of shroud evidence. [sources 1]According to professor Christopher Ramsey of the Oxford Radiocarbon Accelerator Unit in 2011: "There are various hypotheses as to why the dates might not be correct, but none of them stack up." [17] The image on the shroud is much clearer in black-and-white negativethan in its natural sepia color, and this negative image was first observed in 1898 on the reverse photographic plate of amateur photographer Secondo Pia, who was allowed to photograph it while it was being exhibited. A variety of methods have been proposed for the formation of the image, but the actual method used has not yet been conclusively identified. Despite numerous investigations and tests, the status of the Shroud of Turin remains murky, and the nature of the image and how it was fixed on the cloth remains puzzling. [18]The shroud continues to be both intensely studied and controversial. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shroud_of_Turin

Ali Modu Sheriff, The Poll Shift and The Chad Billions Boko Haram Contract Meetings between the president of Nigeria, Ali Modu Sheriff and the President of Chad decided the freakish junction Nigeria traversed this weekend. Modu Sheriff is behind the postponement of the February general election date; he is bigger than you, than Jega, than me, than all 168 million Nigerians and I have evidence... For most of us, we only just realized that the president of Nigeria was determined to shift the general elections till he and his hired Chadian and South African mercenaries scored his eleventh hour victory over Boko Haram. INEC chair Jega only received the security update indicating the mission decided upon to liberate the northeast at all cost ahead of the general elections on the 5th of February. That was when most of us including the administrators of Borno first found this out, but not so for Modu Sheriff. I will like to refer you to an article I published in several media on the 22nd of January this year, captioned, “From Borno: the State of Nigeria’s IDPs.” I quote: “The opposition is accusing the state government of using human lives for political gains. The state government has been pushing IDP voting, while the opposition governor interestingly promised that he (the Federal Government) will soon liberate the local governments occupied by Boko Haram to allow the people go home and vote from there. How and when Sheriff intends to do so is not known.” [ENDS/22/01/2015] That has been the political battle line in the northeast. The information here I obtained a while before I wrote that article. Borno locals, cut off from the rest of us can attest to this fact that Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has been confidently promising them that their areas will be liberated before the general elections and they will “vote from home.” Loosing political clout in his home state – with him being shunned, booed and stoned at all recent visits – this has been Modu Sheriff’s only card left and the card he has been playing with both hands. “You will be liberated before the elections and you will vote from your villages.” There was no way this promise and calculation could be possible without a preplanned shift in the election dates because the MoU with Chad—hired for billions to liberate Nigeria’s northeast was just signed a day ago. And the new military hardware for the war only started being offloaded days ago. The 100 mercenaries Jonathan chartered from South Africa to help in the expedited mission to liberate the northeast ahead of the elections also just arrived. I additionally have more evidence including a government produced recording made just this February and published February 5th which clearly stated that Borno would be liberated “ahead of the elections,” while Yobe may wait till after. Idriss Deby of Chad was contracted by the Nigerian government and signed a fat deal with Jonathan to clear out the northeast on behalf of Nigeria, ahead of the new date to be set for the general elections so Modu Sheriff could keep his promise to the hapless electorate and as he hoped — win some grounds out of their desperation, and also so he can keep his promise to deliver the northeast to president Goodluck Jonathan. While speaking on the MoU with Chad, Nigeria’s Defense chiefs were asked by the ChannelsTV how Nigeria addressed Chad’s unusual withdrawal from the MNJTF last November, the action which permitted Boko Haram to massacre over 2500 defenseless Nigerians at Baga; and the defense chief Alex Badeh said without a care, “We have gone beyond that one now, we have signed MoU’s after... I don’t want to revisit that one, let’s leave it.” [ChannelsTV News@10, 06/02/2015] It is all about politics and Modu Sheriff just played you. We do thank God for whatever reason and regardless of the dirty plots and games; the northeast will be liberated at the end of the day (like it was in the middle of last year before they again allowed Boko Haram take it over to retain the terror situation political capital advantage). Thereafter Nigeria must make the necessary steps to CHANGE the system that puts politics, named terror sponsors and foreign incriminated governments and all their pockets and political ambitions and business interests ahead of its people. by Dr. Peregrino Brimah http://ENDS.ng [Every Nigerian Do Something] Email: drbrimah@ends.ng Twitter: @EveryNigerian
