I am really wondering what you were trying to achieve by cloning Nairaland. Because if you were doing so by coding with your head without any assistance, I would give you thumbs up. But, if you really wanted to replicate Nairaland, then it's thumbs down. Why? It's because you simply could have copied the source code of nairaland and get the exact 'carbon-copy'.
Ohh, I did it all by myself actually, I got tired at some point, after several hours writing the scrapper with puppeteer, I couldn't deploy it on heroku, after some days, I rewrite the code with cheerio, and it's even faster. Having clones of popular websites on ones portfolio nowadays is one of the things employers looks for. You are talking about copying Html and css source code from the inspector or a web tools, isn't it?
A clone should work like a real site actually, that updates itself. The clone is not static, you can check back later to see .

My first clone would be the popular Nairaland clone.

A fullstack app, frontend on Netlify, backend on heroku.

Judge my new portfolio design, tell me it's lapses from your point of view.

After realizing I needed UI skills, I took some course, I think I know the basics, tell me what you feel about my portfolio redesigned.

I also built a Nairaland clone, though I'm still working on it, it's like 30% backend, built with node( express), front end is pure react, I scrapped data from the Nairaland frontpage and some other pages like the front pages content, I hope they won't block it but the section/topic pages are from newsapi api's.

Judge my portfolio, snotat.com

Nairaland clone, nairaland-clone.netlify.app.

Thanks

Lol... Maybe your Calling is more of Backend development. You will not divert into every new thing just because you're not so strong there.... You can learn the basics of it if you're sure your coding skills are already good to get you $1,000 per month job..trust yourself... You will know how to make that much when you know the worth of what you know

...just like that guy who said he'll not even do a button for 10k....no be pride.. He knows the worth of his skills and he knows the right market to approach.

Regards.
Thanks, I'm on it already, seems it's not that complex. Thanks

I

I really admire your cool-headedness in accepting the reviews most of which are harsh but HONEST.

Your confidence level is reallllly high though.. (Beat my own hands down lol - I'm a graphics designer) however this site is not a good representation of the skillset you itemized.

I'll advise you take up some UI design courses and improve your graphics design knowledge too.. Or better still just focus on being a full stack and outsource the design to a UIUX person. The better your skills, the more likely you can attract higher jobs.... 10k for a website os an insult to the title of a Full Stack Developer

Talking about the hype, the truth about tech is that if you're REALLY GOOOD, you'll never go broke - forget saturated market - na werey and novice dey saturated... The reall gurus are few.. Aspire to be a guru
Thanks, seem I have to divert to this UI/UX of a thing. Thanks.

First of all, the "website" you "built" is called Portfolio website and not Freelance website. Please take note.

I will rate your portfolio website 2/10. Why?
1. You didn't stick with a colour scheme.
2. It is not responsive.
3. SEO rating is poor
4. Graphics are poorly designed etc.

My advice.

1. Use a tested & flexible CMS like WordPress, you'll save yourself a lot of stress. Search for a nice "Portfolio Theme" and populate with your project details.

You also mentioned that you are not making a reasonable income from your knowledge in web & app development.
Well, you need to learn web/app content marketing. Having knowledge is not enough, you need to understand how to convert your knowledge to profit.

Don't target Nigeria market please.
how would you rate this starnt.com.ng
