So, Yesterday was my birthday but before that, two days to my birthday, i changed my facebook birthday date to another date. I really wanted to know if my close friends knew my date and won't be waiting for any facebook reminder. The result i got though have really made me to ask myself if my 'close friends' are really my close friends. My 'best friend' that I've known for nine years now haven't called me up till today to wish me happy birthday or apologize for not remembering. I remember trying to call him on his birthday and his number wasn't going through, i had to call his girlfriend in order to reach him and his comment when I later got through to him that night was 'It's now you're calling me since morning'. Likewise my female 'bestie' that I've known for 6 years now,she hasn't called either. The list goes on. My dad, in his late 60s though, didn't remember my birthday as well. I had to tell my mum and siblings not to remind him so I'll see if he remembers. At 28,i believe I'm not a kid though to be wanting affection and birthday wishes from my old man but I just feel it's something a parent shouldn't forget. To crown it all, I got a girlfriend this past January and Yea, she forgot my birthday as well after most recently telling her last week Thursday. She called and texted today to apologize but I just told her to give me a week off without calls, texts or visits. Although she didn't agree and was still persistent but that's the verdict I have for her. All in all though, I was and I'm still kinda disappointed with these 'Key' people in my life that I expected not to ever forget such an important day to me but they all did. But still, I don't think it should make me change my mindset towards them even though it hurts. So guys, passing the speech stick to you, 'How would you feel if your loved one forgot your birthday?'

It's normal though. Someone might come to you with 10 ways, 20 ways, etc to overcome stage fright but my brother to be sincere with you, like AIDS, no one has gotten that cure yet. Yea, there are some people that are good orators but they're just like you. They faced the challenge of standing in a crowd instead of cowering away telling themselves they couldn't do it. Even Martin Luther King Jr rehearsed his 'I have a dream' speech over and over again cos he too wasn't 100% when it came to facing a crowd. The first step to overcoming stage fright is to do it,do it again and again and again till you know you're better than the first time. I sing in my church and if somebody had told me years ago that I'll stand in front of over 200 people to sing, I'll call em a false prophet. But the day I was forced to do it, I told myself I could, I had lots of butterflies in my stomach kinda feeling and sometimes I still get that feeling but when I show up and hold that mic,all those 'fear of failing' feelings die off. I do it cos i know I'm preparing myself for a bigger crowd. Give up trying to be perfect and know that it is okay to make mistakes. Be natural, be yourself. Take deep breathes and finally, SPEAK. |
SEMO007:Seriously. I went to Air Force secondary school. my brother those soldiers will flog you for anything at all, good reason or no reason. infact they'll be flogging you while you're giving your reasons. |
Lalasticlala mynf44 fynestboi please let our teachers be educated on this for good student-teacher relationship. |
I'm a Batch A Stream 1 Corps member (Yea. Counting down weeks to my POP). I currently teach in a private school in rivers state. Nuff about all the intro. To the point now, shall we? I experienced something today and I just thought i should share to all teachers(both corps members and full time teachers), intending teachers and intending corps members. I had an SS1 economics class by 12pm and when I got to the class, few seconds in, the students didn't greet. I was expecting someone to save them and echo the routine class greeting so I wouldn't have to punish them (our proprietress have been sounding warning to us as of late to punish the students if we encounter any act of indiscipline from them. Not greeting a teacher qualified as an act of indiscipline). Someone finally called out for the class to greet. They all stood up to greet. Except one girl. I was a bit furious and i asked her why she didn't stand up and greet, she still bent her head on the desk without a reply and as expected, the 'Teacher dictator' in me(every teacher has it) wanted to call her out and give her some strokes of cane. I asked a student if the 'disobedient' girl was sick and the reply was 'No'. Now, i really got more pissed off and wanted to punish her but all of a sudden, i just ignored it, brushed it aside and went on with my teaching. A few hours later, I was walking past the SS1 class and I saw a girl crying (a different girl),when I asked what happened, they told me one of their classmates mum that was pregnant lost her baby that's why she was crying. I came to know later that the other 'disobedient' girl of my economics class was crying at that time when I entered the class for the same reason that was why she didn't stand up to greet. On my own part, i had to praise myself for making the right decision not to punish her cos i know i wouldn't have been happy with myself if I had punished her and later found out that this was the reason why she didn't stand up to greet. So my dear teachers, before you flog that student for coming late without listening to her reasons, do you know if she witnessed an altercation between her parents and she was the child trying to settle them? Before you flog him for failing, do you know if his guardian punished him by not feeding him all through yesterday just because he mistakenly broke a plate while washing? Meanwhile he had an exam to write the following day. Before you flog that child, do you know what's going on in the life of that child? Before you raise that cane above your head, ask yourself, 'Have i listened to this child?' Listen.... It'll only take a minute.

The main comment I was actually looking out for from buyers is to know if it's really 3month validity cos I'm a bit skeptical about that part. Buyers can you confirm? |
