All IOCs are in a JV( Joint Venture ) with the FG. Of which, the Federal Government has the highest share.
So if you are calling the IOCs to order , the FG should be involved too. Not only to share profit.

Travel › Re: My Experience In America: A Comparison With Nigeria by SoaringLife01: 9:47pm On Feb 05, 2025
steeltrust:
Since moving to America in 2023, I've been impressed by the country's infrastructure, including steady electricity, good roads, clean water, and gas etc. However, I've also noticed some flaws, such as gun violence and mental health issues.

One thing that struck me is that many Americans seem to have forgotten their history and culture especially the black folks. Additionally, there's a tendency to complain excessively about every issues.

Despite these issues, I've been impressed by the job market. Many companies, such as Amazon, UPS, Walmart, McDonald's, and Costco etc , offer well-paying jobs with benefits, even for those without certifications or experience. These jobs often come with benefits like medical insurance, life insurance, and retirement plans.

In contrast, I've noticed that many Nigerian companies, such as Dangote Industries, Jumia, Chicken Republic and other big companies, don't seem to offer the same level of employment opportunities or benefits. Which are in same category as the companies mentioned above in America. Many workers in Nigeria earn low wages and are mistreated by management, even when these companies earn billions of naira annually.

It's time for us to ask important questions and seek solutions. We need to move beyond tribalism and religion and focus on creating a more equitable society.

*Solutions:*
1. *Increased employment opportunities*: Nigerian companies should strive to create more jobs and offer better benefits.
2. *Vocational training*: Companies can provide training programs to help employees develop new skills.
3. *Improved working conditions*: Employers must treat their workers with dignity and respect, providing safe and healthy working conditions.
4. *Government support*: The government should implement policies to support workers and hold companies accountable for their treatment of employees.

Let's work together to create a better future for Nigeria. What your take
Well said!
The two main militating factors against our development is CORRUPTION and TRIBALISM.
There are other subsets within the corruption set.
With all the natural and human resources Nigeria is blessed with, we should have been a developed country.
AI and Data Science/ allied is now the talk of the world. It takes 247 power supply to make tremendous strides in that space. How can Nigeria have 247 power supply when corruption is smelling stinkly here. Take for example, the Discos are meant to maintain the distribution line and substations they are operating. But what we see is consumers maintaining transformers themselves.
Corruption is dancing galala in almost all the sectors. Just this week, we were shocked of the news of Warri prison officials allowing prisoners to go and rob.The prisoners even went as far to Benin City to rob. Okpemu!
I may sound pessimistic, but I deeply want a better Nigeria. But it seems all odds is against the country.
As the saying goes, " the change begin with you". We need visionary/selfless/courageous leaders do drive this paradigm shift in our mentality.
God bless Nigeria!

Politics › Water Boards Or Air Boards? by SoaringLife01(op): 11:56pm On Feb 04, 2025
Is the government water board still functional in your area?
The one I have heard about in Delta State and Bayelsa State( Yenagoa ,the state capital) are non-functional.
I wonder if the water boards are really meant for water storage and distribution to Nigerians or just air boards to store air.
Another question is with the rate of jagajagaish urban planning will the distribution of water into houses be ever possible again? Or the water boards will just have tap islands scattered around their coverage area.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Elon Musk Shuts Down USAID, Locks Out 600 Staffers Overnight by SoaringLife01: 9:00pm On Feb 03, 2025
Before Trump gave the nod for USAID to be shut down, it shows that the cancer growth in that organization is beyond chemotherapy.
This is a clarion call for African countries leaders to revive TRUE NATIONALISM. They should steer the path of harnessing and adding value to the natural resources that is abound in our continent.
True nationalism will be a dream if this ugly corruption monster is not cut off.
We should develop our own method of solving our problems.
We have the brains , so research and development shouldn't be a problem. But the cancer of corruption should be cut off first before the glory of our brains/gifted professionals will shine forth. During the Nigerian civil war , the Biafran soldiers took R & D as a high priority , and the result was amazing.
This is the era to develop our country. Our politicians and wealthy folks should stop investing in USA and other western clime( stashing loots and buying exotic houses etc). We should strengthen the institutions in our country and invest in our country.
Another factor militating against true nationalism in Nigeria and Africa is tribalism. This is a recurrent decimal even here on Nairaland.

You've cleverly shifted your argument to a seemingly unregulated sector...opening an Auto shop....Can you be an Engineer in the US and win a FGN contract without you being a COREN certified Engineer?
...and irrespective of where you study in the world, you will have to pass Medical Council or Nursing Council of Nigeria's Exams before you can practise.

When you say Nigeria's certificate are not recognised...you are yet to give a classic example of where.

All I know is, a country where Nigeria's graduate will have to write professional exams before practicing, in most cases, it's not only for Nigeria..... it's for any foreign certificate at that. Everyone will have to write such exams.
For the records, any expat that is an engineer in his home country, must be COREN registered here in Nigeria. Usually gotten after writing the licensing exams.
When Nigeria/ COREN has become a full member of the WASHINGTON ACCORD, COREN-registered engineers from Nigeria can freely practice engineering in countries that are binded by that accord, USA,UK,Australia,New Zealand, South Africa, etc.

What area or part of medicine do you orcatice here in America ?
Do you perform open surgical operations as a doctor if yes then please tell me how you did it with your Nigerian degree.
From what I know there are some practices as a doctor your NIGERIAN certificate you won't perform.
For example open heart surgery. I don't even think you legally allowed to operate on any open wound surgery unless you go do as I stated above

Secondly your certification to practice medicine with your internal degree has so many limitations infact tell me what state are you practicing as a doctor and what you do s a doctor so I know before I go further with you because I know inside medicine and doctor dem get core medical practice so pls shoot.
Guy,be calming down.
To be a surgeon here in Nigeria , the doctor must have undergo further specialized training ,not just MBBS.
So a Nigerian-trained surgeon is surely likely to get a job overseas as a surgeon. Just for him to write the professional license exams pertaining to the country in context.

So i was talking with a friend this evening who plans to pick a date next year and do the official thing with his fiancée before May 2025.

I projected 1.5m for everything, including marriage list, ma guy was shocked, and i was surprised he was surprised grin

He is not a Nairaland person so i told him i will post here and see what people's reactions is like towards what the cost could be like. Note that he'll be following the tread too.

Thanks in advance for your input.
Get a marriage planner to cost your wedding ceremony.
Or better still understudy someone who is planning to do wedding before your set date.
You can actually plan it yourself.I did mine myself.
