Family › Re: To Visit Nigeria After 13 Years! by SoaringLife01: 3:34pm On Jun 25, 2024 |
Ksli: Dear Family,
I'm reaching out for your advice, recommendations, and most importantly, suggestions. I've been absent from this forum for a while now, and I'm facing a difficult dilemma.
For context, I was born and raised in Nigeria but left over 13 years ago. I've become completely disconnected from the people, community, family, and the entire environment there.
While I do encounter other Nigerians here, I haven't spent more than 80 hours communicating with them in 13 years. My dilemma stems from my plan to marry a Nigerian woman. She has expressed that we have very different perspectives on life and relationships, particularly within an African context. She's advised me to return to Nigeria to understand how people truly think.
I'm confused by her suggestion. She's recommended specific actions like sitting in a bar, spending time with family, and even trying the food again to get a feel for the culture. She told me during my hangout i should observe both the men and women to understand how they think.
To be honest, I attempted to visit a country with a large Nigerian population. After just five days, I found myself voting for the right wing due to their stance on immigration.
For those that might ask, in out of the 13 years i have lived in a country whereby in my city i was the only black man, i have been only in relationship with the other race, i must tell you its different on how we think, i have seen the best of both worlds and choose the way to live my life. I once had a conversation with a friend's wife, she told me Mr.... No typical african woman can ever marry you. All this really got me concern.
Nevertheless, reading the news on the security issues, being arrassed by Police, people both male and female trying to take advantages how do i survive to visit Nigeria and fly acorss the countries to explore, different regions. All my old friends are no longer there.
I will really appriciate your support. My advice to you as a fellow guy is that there is no need for you to come to Nigeria. You want to spend just 8 days to study how Nigerians think. How does the mindset of Nigerians in Nigeria affect your home/marriage?.You are already in another clime, so of what use is your visit? Bros abeg just dey where you dey and run your matters jejely. Your girlfriend may mean well by her advice , but that advice is not the way to go at all. |

This is so unbelievable, there are so many things about Nigeria that I am ignorant of. Sincerely if the British comes to take over Nigeria for just 10 years, Nigeria will transform totally.
We are a disgrace You said it all.Poor vision of the political leaders. |

See this Map.
Oya tell me what you mean by tiny.
Despite the fact that Bayelsa is a very new State doesn't make it small all because it's among the newest States. By no of LGAs, Bayelsa State has the lowest no- just 8 LGAs. Bayelsa State deserves more. The political leaders need to do more. |

SoNature: Considering how tiny this state is and the amount that comes in in federal allocation, Yenagoa should be finer than this. You said it all.Yenagoa as a state capital doesn't look it at all. It has a special terrain( swampy and waterlogged) and the state government is yet to take the development of the city serious. Till date, the Epie Creek is yet to be dredged. Overflowing of the creek during rainy season is the major cause of flooding at the areas along the creek in Yenagoa. |

The only flyover in Yenagoa is the Berger flyover( leading to Ijaw House, Local Content Towers and CBN) is same in the picture. This picture should be when the flyover was recently completed. Worthy to note that the flyover has a new look now, thanks to NCDMB for the good artistic works on the flyover columns. |

After the Nigerian Army has goofed , they are now withdrawing in 'shame'. The Nigerian Army is yet to establish the real perpetuators, instead they unprofessionally demolished an entire community and killed unharmed Okuama residents. Okuama community is seeking redress in the court of law, let's keep our fingers crossed. |

There is BIG DIFFERENCE between Ogboni member and a traditionalist. A traditionalist worship the Supreme creator in the way our ancestors worshipped Him. But Reformed Ogboni Fraternity more or less rooted in secrecy , a typical feature of a cult/fraternity. Why do people even join ROF? Is it to worship the Supreme Creator? No! Most people join ROF to seek metaphysical powers to achieve their goals in life : protection , fame, business breakthrough. And there must always be Terms and Conditions to get such metaphysical powers. Before ROF came on board, it was Ogboni Fraternity , with origin from the SouthWest Nigeria. But the burning harmattan ROF wind swept across the entire Nigeria in the 60s to 80s. One of the key founders of ROF is an Anglican priest. But our Lord Jesus Christ said many people will say on the last day that they did miracles in His name, but He will say He doesn't know them. OP should follow his uncle advice and subtly quit the relationship. As far his peace of mind has been already disturbed, he should make a U-turn.There are many ladies with beautiful soul out there.Searching continua! |

BTW, is the function of the Nigerian Army to settle Land Dispute ? Sadly , the inquiry set up is made up of the Nigerian Army. How can we expect a bias-free report? |

mauchiz: They caused problems for themselves, when I was in secondary school in Owerri, once youths start behaving badly, community leaders will write petition to the police and they will invite the person for questioning. Then if an arm robber is caught, the elders in the community won't allow jungle justice on the person, they must hand the person over to police. Okuoma residents knew they kill people in their community and they kept quiet. When I was 16,i saved an arm robber, by going to call elderly people to stop the bloodshed, I hate bloodshed, I grew up with the mentality you don't kill, rather you hand them over to the police. Let one person in Okuama tell us they don't know their youths are murderers, I don't pity for them. Whatever you sow in life you reap, this will teach them a lesson. You don't say what you don't know. Why are you concluding that Okuama people killed those soldiers. Okuama community earlier sent petition to Delta State Govt in January accusing one of the Ijaw leaders( former NIMASA DG ) of planning to forcefully annex their land.He was accused of using intimidating the community with his high connection. Nothing was done to that petition. The Federal Government should set up an independent inquiry to determine the actual killers.SADLY The Nigerian Army is the same body carry out the investigation. |

beyondPen: You are not alone, the zeal in many of us is no longer there giving we were even born in church. Many nowadays go to church for something. It could be they want miracle (job, money, health) or for show.
Now you simply realize church cant give you what you really want in life as we were told but the actions we take in life.
Although we dont have anything against the church but the truth is we are in the post-religious era It is not church that gives , it is God that gives us our heart requests. Church is for fellowship. |
Christianity Etc › Re: I No Longer Have The Interest Of Going To Church Every Sunday, Any Help? by SoaringLife01: 10:03am On Apr 07, 2024 |
Where is the place of the Holy Spirit in your walk with God? A pastor asked you out and you declined, so because of that you stopped going to church. For you to be concerned and post this on NL is a pointer that God is speaking to you to return back home. In this present age of increasing rate of materialism and ungodliness, you should hold on to your faith in Christ. Why do go to church? We go to church for FELLOWSHIP. Fellowship is more than going to church to show off our new clothes and style. Fellowship is meant to build up our faith in Jesus Christ. If you are not getting that sense of fellowship in your present church , you are free to look for another church where you can feel that sense of fellowship. |

There can't be authentic peace talk when the perpetrators have not been identified and probably arrested. Okuama community ( Urhobo )earlier sent a petition to Delta State Govt that one Mr. Akpolo......from Okoloba community (Ijaw)in Bomadi LGA is using his position to intimidate them over an ongoing land dispute.
