Sports / *africa's Richest Man Aliko Dangote Plots Arsenal Takeover Within Four Years* by soccerecho(m): 5:00pm On Sep 23, 2016
The 59-year-old, a self-professed Gunners fan, will become the first African owner of a Premier League club if his takeover bid is successful

*_Business magnate Aliko Dangote wants to buy Arsenal_*

Aliko Dangote , a successful Nigerian businessman with a reported worth of $10.9billion, outlined his plans in an interview with Bloomberg Television in New York on Wednesday.

The 59-year-old, a self-professed Arsenal supporter, will become the first African owner of a Premier League club if his takeover bid is successful.

However, after losing $4.4billion this year mainly due to the depreciation of Nigeria's currency, he is waiting for his finances to improve before attempting to buy the club.

*Dangote said:*

“It’s not about buying Arsenal and just continuing with business as usual,”

“It’s about buying Arsenal and turning it around. I’ve run a very successful business and I think I can also run a very successful team."

"Right now, with what we’re facing, over $20 billion of projects, I cannot do both.”

Stan Kroenke, Arsenal's current majority shareholder with a 66% stake in the club, has an estimated worth of $8billion.

Sports / Courtois: I Want To Return To Spain by soccerecho(m): 10:06am On Sep 22, 2016
Thibaut Courtois has admitted he wants to return to La Liga and may not sign a new contract at Chelsea to engineer a move back to Spain. The Chelsea goalkeeper has revealed he cried when his time at Atletico Madrid came to end in 2014 and says that he feels "half Spanish" as he enjoys the lifestyle so much.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a fruitful stint with the Spanish outfit, playing a key role in them winning La Liga in 2014, as well as the Copa del Rey in 2013 and also the Europa League in 2012.

Courtois is not the only Chelsea player to reveal his interest in securing a switch back to Atletico, with Diego Costa having also admitted he tried to return to his former club in the summer.

Sports / MAN.CITY To Work It Out With Fans In Africa by soccerecho(m): 1:49pm On Sep 13, 2016
Manchester City will lose fans across Africa because of the way Yaya Toure has been treated by Pep Guardiola, according to the Ivory Coast midfielder's agent.

Toure, 33, has since been left out of the squad for the Champions League group stage with UEFA rules forcing Guardiola to drop an overseas player with only 17 of his 18 foreign players eligible.

His adviser, Dimitri Seluk, believes the decision to omit the four-time African Player of the Year winner will not be popular on his home continent.

"They will lose a lot of millions of supporters from Africa because of this decision from Guardiola," Seluk told Sky Sports. "Now they will support Manchester United. A lot of people in Africa say they will never see any more matches of City on TV."

Toure has not featured in the starting lineup or even on the bench for any of City's three Premier League fixtures this season.

His only appearance came in the Champions League playoff second leg against Steaua Bucharest with the tie effectively over following City's 5-0 win in Romania.

Sports / Simeone Is Perfect Choice To Replace Wenger At Arsenal' by soccerecho(m): 1:37pm On Sep 13, 2016
Arsenal should look to appoint Diego Simeone as Arsene Wenger successor, says former Gunner Ray Parlour. Wenger, the Premier League's longest-serving active manager is in the last year of his contract at the Emirates Stadium, prompting talk of who could step into the hot seat should he depart after over 20 years at the club.

Eddie Howe has been touted as a replacement in recent weeks but Arsenal legend Parlour feels the young Englishman could be detrimental to the Gunners going forward and Atletico Madrid head coach Simeone is a far better fit. "I don't think he would know enough about big foreign players to attract them," Parlour said. Parlour felt that Simeone should the favourite to succeed Wenger without any doubt.

Sports / Bayern Chief : Gotze Will Have To Decide His Own Future by soccerecho(m): 12:14pm On May 26, 2016
Bayern Munich say Mario Gotze will have to decide for himself whether he wants to move away from the club.
The Germany international, who famously scored the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final, has struggled to establish himself in Bayern's starting eleven since joining from Borussia Dortmund.
Sky sources understand the 23-year-old is a transfer target for Liverpool, where he would be reunited with his former boss at Dortmund, Jurgen Klopp.
And with new head coach Carlo Ancelotti set to begin work at the Allianz Arena, Bayern's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has refused to give Gotze any guarantees.
"I had talks with him (Mario) and (Carlo) Ancelotti. Mario knows the thoughts of Bayern," Rummenigge told Kicker magazine. "Everything was clearly and seriously explained to Mario.

Sports / Liverpool Fans Create Hilarious Mamadou Sakho Banner For Europa League Final by soccerecho(m): 11:53am On May 17, 2016
Liverpool fans have created a hilarious banner tribute to Mamadou Sakho ahead of the Europa League final.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are in Basel preparing to take on holders Sevilla in tomorrow night’s showpiece.
But they’re without Sakho – with the French defender currently banned from playing after failing a drugs test in March.
He’s been a standout performer for Liverpool since Klopp’s arrival at the club and has had some of his displays in the Europa League.
And despite the severity of his failed drugs test, the supporters still hold Sakho in high regard, with some planning to pay tribute to him at St. Jakob-Park tomorrow night with this apt banner:

Sports / Worst Referee Decisions Of The Season by soccerecho(m): 12:51pm On Apr 20, 2016
After Sergio Aguero scored from a clearly offside position against Newcastle last night, SoccerEcho take a look at the worst refereeing decisions of the season and which teams have been most affected, for better or worse.
Spoiler: this piece is almost entirely subjective and will likely make you really angry and want to abuse the author.
So, in chronological order…
Benteke goal incorrectly given against Bournemouth
Back in August, when Christian Benteke was still a credible Premier League striker, and Brendan Rodgers was Liverpool manager, there was all manner of controversy over the Reds’ winner against Bournemouth.
Philippe Coutinho was interfering with play in the build up to the goal, with his attempt to convert Jordan Henderson’s cross distracting goalkeeper Artur Boruc, before Benteke tapped home.
A change in the offside ruling over the summer meant Coutinho should have been flagged and the goal disallowed.
As it was, the goal was given, and Liverpool won 1-0.

Sports / Why Arsenal Must Sack Arsene Wenger? by soccerecho(m): 10:00am On Apr 19, 2016
1) Never won back to back titles
People talk about Arsene Wenger as a legend of British football. His record in terms of trophies though isn’t that good. In fact over his time at Arsenal it is poor given that the club are regarded as a top club. He’s been at the club for 20 years and delivered just three league titles. That isn’t good enough. In that period he never won the coveted back to back titles that any great team wins. Jose Mourinho did this and Sir Alex Ferguson won three on the spin. This is what separates the good teams from the absolutely great. Regardless of a season unbeaten he never followed it up.

Sports / Jamie Vardy To Dash Leicester's Title Hopes Over Misconduct Charge by soccerecho(m): 9:47am On Apr 19, 2016
Plainly no exceptions can be made for a Roy of the Rovers storyline when a footballer reacts to his sending off with abusive and threatening behaviour towards a referee – if that is what Vardy was guilty of in Sunday’s volcanic game against West Ham.
Romance has nothing to do with it. Nor is “swearing” the main issue. A distinction can be drawn between “bad language” and allegedly jabbing a finger at a referee’s face and attaching offensive labels to him. This kind of personal abuse is no more acceptable in a football match than it would be in an office. If this is indeed how Vardy responded to a legitimate dismissal, the official, Jonathan Moss, deserves protection from the authorities.
The Football Association has a poor record of shielding match officials from obnoxious conduct, though Chelsea’s Diego Costa recently picked up an extended ban for throwing a tantrum about being sent off.

No one doubts that having Cristiano Ronaldo firing on all cylinders is one of the best ways to overcome a 2-0 deficit against Wolfsburg. In fact, this season he has scored and assisted more than anyone else in Europe.
This is borne out by combining the stats from La Liga and the Champions League as it shows Ronaldo as Europe's deadliest striker.
He has 43 goals in the Spanish League and 15 in Europe, putting him ahead of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robert Lewandowski.
Los Blancos benefited from the forward's keen eye for goal in their last match against Eibar as the Portuguese star netted with a sensational overhead kick.

The newspaper further reports that the revelations came from one terror suspect Mohamed Abrini, who was captured last week in Belgium after being linked with the Brussels terror attack where 32 people died and 300 others injured.
The Islamic terror group also carried out a similar attack on Friday Novermber 2015 during an international friendly match between France and Germany in Paris and it’s northern suburb Saint-Denis. In the attack, three suicide bombers struck a few meters from the Stade de France. What followed was a series of well-coordinated mass shootings at public places such as cafes, music halls and restaurants. The incident claimed more than 130 lives and injured more than 368.

An Italian court on Tuesday called for new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte to receive a six-month suspended prison sentence over match-fixing allegations.
The current Italy manager, who will take over Chelsea after Euro 2016, is accused of sporting fraud.

The game involved Siena, which Conte managed at that time.

Conte, who denies any wrongdoing, was also ordered to pay an 8,000 euros (dh33.05, $9,000 US) fine, by Italian public prosecutor Roberto Di Martino.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / PSG Vs Manchester City:UCL (2 - 2) On 6th April 2016 by soccerecho(m): 2:36pm On Apr 05, 2016
Manuel Pellegrini has backed Eliaquim Mangala to rise to the occasion when Manchester City face an in-form Zlatan Ibrahimovic in Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain.

France defender Mangala has faced criticism from some quarters over his form since moving to Etihad Stadium for a reported fee of £42million from Porto in August 2014.

But with captain Vincent Kompany (calf) leading a damaging injury list that also includes goalkeeper Joe Hart (calf), Raheem Sterling (groin) and possibly Yaya Toure (knee), Mangala is set to continue deputising against the Ligue 1 champions.

Mangala's performances may have been indifferent, but Pellegrini is confident the 25-year-old can keep a brilliant PSG attack - led by the evergreen Ibrahimovic - quiet at the Parc des Princes.

"If you have the statistics then you will see every time Mangala plays then we win," Pellegrini said.

"In a few games this season he has made mistakes, which is very awful to concede, but if you review his overall performances, he is a very good player.

"I don't think the price made a difference for him. He is a very young player, he is adapting to a difficult league in the Premier League.

"He has all the conditions to be a very important player here and I'm sure he will improve in every season he plays in the Premier League."

The tie marks City's first foray in the quarter-finals of the Champions League after being knocked out in the last 16 by Barcelona in the previous two seasons, as they seek to finally translate their domestic form into Europe.
