Double disaster for Wenger

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was left to survey the wreckage of another bad night for the Gunners, as they crashed out of the Champions League and saw skipper Thierry Henry suffer new injury problems.

A 1-1 home draw against PSV Eindhoven ended Arsenal's hopes of emulating last year's run to the final of the same competition, with Wenger's side having also recently lost the Carling Cup final and crashed out of the FA Cup.

The Frenchman admitted: "This defeat is difficult to take and it's a massive disappointment.

"We feel it's a cruel night because we had chances to score the second goal. We could not take the chances we made in both halves.

"This was a repetition of the first leg and we were less sharp than two or three weeks ago because all the games are catching up with us.

"I don't feel we failed in the Carling Cup. We're out of the FA Cup and that was a big disappointment, but it is minor compared to this.

"Now we have to secure a place in the Champions League because we have a responsibility to finish as high as we can and try to overtake Liverpool.

"There are a lot of positives to take, but the last two weeks have been horrendous."

Meanwhile, Henry suffered groin and stomach muscle injuries in the game, having only been fit enough to start from the bench after recent hamstring and foot problems.

Wenger added: "Thierry has torn his groin and a stomach muscle and he will be scanned on Thursday.

"It's sad for him. It has been a difficult season for Thierry."

Jose wants more credit

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho thinks he deserves more praise for the season his side have enjoyed, considering the injuries to key players he has had to contend with.

Petr Cech, John Terry, Joe Cole and Ashley Cole have all been sidelined for lengthy spells but Mourinho's side have already won the Carling Cup and remain in contention to taste glory in the Champions League, FA Cup and Premiership.

Chelsea are close to sealing a place in the quarter-finals of Europe's premier competition after drawing the first leg of their last 16 clash at FC Porto 1-1 and Mourinho is happy with his side's current form.

"This team deserves to win more," he said. "My motivation is that, at the end of the season, they have another cup in their hands.

"Because we are second in the Premiership, people think our work has not been so good as in seasons before. I think exactly the opposite.

"To have the results we have [had], I'm not saying it's a miracle, I'm not saying it's a job for Superman. I am saying my players deserve more credit.

"Nobody [could have done a better job]. I put pressure on myself because I want to win.

"I am not under any pressure to win something else because the only pressure I am under is from the pressure I put on myself.

"I don't accept pressure from other people. I don't get depressed. If the club decides to sack me because of bad results, that's part of the game.

"If that happens, I will be a millionaire and I will get another club a couple of months later. I cannot win every week, every year.

"But I have family, my kids are healthy, I have a lot of friends, I have a good life - pressure of what? I put myself under pressure, just like I did when playing three against three in the street as a kid. I like to win - but pressure? No way."

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho insists he respects Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United but does not think the Scot should tell him to keep quiet.

Ferguson had told Mourinho to 'button it' when it comes to criticising referees before the weekend fixtures, but the Blues manager did not care for the comments.

"Why should I shut up?" he said.

"I'm not allowed to talk about the ref, but he (Ferguson) was allowed to for the last 20 years of his career? What's the difference between me and him?

"What would he say if Chelsea win a match with a penalty like they did at Middlesbrough and Tottenham, or the penalty they got in the first minute against Portsmouth?

"I have 100 per cent respect for him, the players, the club, the team they have and for the wonderful league campaign they are doing. That's one part of the story.

"But the other part of the story is in the right moment, they've had a penalty, or a goal, or a sending off - something happened for them.

"They have a great team and are doing a great job. We are champions and I have to adopt the attitude of champions and be honest with them."

FA Statement - Emmanuel Eboue

At a Disciplinary Commission hearing today, a charge of violent conduct against Arsenal's Emmanuel Eboue was found to be proved.

He will therefore serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect.

Eboue was charged for striking Wayne Bridge during an incident towards the end of the Carling Cup Final on Sunday. He denied the charge.

Wenger has Henry fears


Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that Thierry Henry may not have recovered from a foot injury in time to play in the crucial Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven.

The 29-year-old has not played since last month's 1-0 defeat to the Dutch side in the first leg of their last 16 tie, and missed the FA Cup fifth round replay defeat at Blackburn Rovers.

THIERRY HENRY

Henry is also likely to sit out Saturday's Premiership game with Reading as Wenger's injury woes increase.

Tomas Rosicky will definitely miss the Emirates Stadium encounter with the current Dutch League leaders as Wenger confirmed to the club's official website: "Tomas will be out for the PSV game and Thierry is a doubt.

"We will try our best to get him fit, but at the moment it is impossible to say.

"The suspended players will be back for this game, so Adebayor and Toure will play. Maybe Abou Diaby will be back too.

"Saturday looks to me very short for all of the injured players. The only one who could return is Johan Djourou (ankle). Cesc Fabregas will come back after he was rested at Blackburn."
