My last day at work in ESH was a night shift, which went very smoothly. I was the nurse in charge and should be the one that would hand over in the morning but i told my colleague to go ahead and present the hand-over. The reason; many colleagues would be focused on ' he is actually going', or 'is today actually his last day' while i am reading the hand-over so i saved them that stress so that they can concentrate on the information that could help them deliver effective care in their shift. After the handover, the nurses would come out of the staff room to get the bedside hand-over which is also important. I remember one episode, it was a day shift. I went in to hand over the reports to the night nurses in the staff room and within that 15-20 minutes. A confused patient has left his bed space and the ward. When i wanted to hand over at the bedside, voila, nowhere to be found. No one saw him going out. I had to stay behind to call the security to comb the hospital premises, when they could not find him we called the police. Thankfully the police was able to find him outside the hospital premises and brought him back. Well, i know you want to ask, why can't we allow him to go, he was confused and observed to be non-capacitous. which puts him in harm's way. I also remember one patient, which was very confused that seized my medication trolley while administering evening medication, he wanted to smoke on the ward where we have open and running oxygen and other gadgets, he seized the trolley and wheeled it to his bedside. Is he right to do that? No. Can i force him to give the trolley out? No. I had to call the security to get my trolley back., with a strong warning not to ever attempt such again. So after the bedside hand over, I went to the ward manager to sign my discharge documents, got my own copies, and final goodbyes, hugs, and kisses. The end of an Era. I continued to follow up with my new letting agent on the status of the house in Grimsby in respect to the safety checks, and on the first of March, the agents said, during an inspection, the electrician found some faults in the electric wiring of the house and it will take few days to complete, they have to change the wires. At this stage, I was already tired of everything. I told the agent to do all that is necessary. But I told her that i cannot shift my move-in date again. So we agreed that if the wiring is not finished by the 6th of March I will move in with my belongings but had to sleep somewhere else. Then the few days that i stayed outside the house will be deducted from the rent. On the evening of the 5th of March, the Removal truck came and we loaded all the belongings into it. He left with the belongings, he slept at his base and from there he proceeded to the Great Grimsby on the 6th. My family and i used the evening and night to clean and tidy up the flat, we disposed of leftovers that could not be donated. I had bought a train ticket for myself and family, I left very early on the 6th day of March, the train was 0515hr from Redhill to London St' Pancras. London St' Pancras international is a regional train hub for the tube, land/national, and regional train commute. Here you can get train to France, Spain, and so on. There is a direct train from London King's cross to Grimsby. I got to Grimsby at 0945hr. The letting agent's office is just 2 minutes trek from the train station. I signed all the relevant documents with the agent and paid the remaining part of the rent and deposit. While i was with the agents, my phone rang. it was the removal company man saying he has just pulled up at my house. I got a taxi to take me to the house. The house was built in 1965 but looks like it was built in the '90s because of the maintenance culture. The street has more than 50 houses, some detached while others are semi-detached. A real quiet but predominantly white neighborhood with nice people. I met the electrician in the house putting finishing touches to the re-wiring of the house. I offloaded the loads into the house quickly with the help of the Removal man, i wanted him to get going quickly so that he could be in London with daylight. I had made an arrangement with my wife's friend to stay with her family for a few days. My family left Redhill later in the morning to join me. They had waited to drop the keys for the agent (Woodland) in Redhill. The agent will arrange a checkout visit later and report back to the landlord and me. Welcome to Great Grimsby. Great Grimsby is a country town with a very rich heritage but has been abandoned by the government. |
sommychekwas:This doesn't look right. I know IHS has been scrapped for Tier 2 health and care Visa. What Tier of Visa did you to please. Friends that applied recently, can you please help her with information. |
protonz:It will end in joy, just set your heart and eyes on it. Eyes on the ball my friend. |
mimilyrics:Thank you for coming to our rescue. |
ProJectAnatot:Thank you. 1. I am not sure of the 'time eligibility' for your Profession but for Nurses, you can apply immediately after finishing school. 2. It depend on how many exams that you have to write before you get licensed, For nurses between £2-3k. |
Godlove087:I am not sure you can come from that career background and go straight for Masters in Adult Nursing. Can you verify with the School again or check the offer again. |
Splendblex:Oh, thank you for your kind words and shout out to your siblings. Please share the link to them, they might have have more contributions to issues raised here on the thread. We are all learning and 'unlearning'. |
It all started from her. I wonder why there is not much written about her. Chief K A Pratt. First black Nurse in to work in the NHS. Chief Kofoworola Abeni Pratt Hon. FRCN (1915 – 18 June 1992), a Nigerian-born nurse, was the first black nurse to work in Britain's National Health Service. She subsequently became vice-president of the International Council of Nurses and the first black Chief Nursing Officer of Nigeria, working in the Federal Ministry of Health. Chief Kofoworola Abeni Pratt Hon. FRCN Born 1915 Nigeria Died 18 June 1992 Nationality Nigerian Occupation Nurse Known for - First black nurse to work for the NHS Pratt, daughter of Augustus Alfred Scott and Elizabeth Omowumi (née Johnson), was educated at St John's Secondary School and Lagos CMS Girls' Grammar School, then studied to be a teacher at the United Missionary College in Ibadan, after her father discouraged her from her wish to be a nurse. From 1936 to 1940 she taught at a Church Missionary Society girls' school in Nigeria. She married a Nigerian pharmacist, Dr. Olu Pratt, who subsequently obtained British medical qualifications at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London. After moving to England in 1946, Pratt studied nursing at the Nightingale School at St Thomas' Hospital, in London. During her time at St Thomas' Hospital, Pratt experienced racial discrimination, when a patient refused to be treated by a black nurse. Pratt passed her preliminary state exams in 1948 and her finals in 1949, qualifying as a State Registered Nurse in 1950. It was unusual for a married woman to be allowed to take up nursing at that time, and Pratt was also the first qualified black nurse to work for the NHS. During her time in London, she was active in the West African Students' Union, an association of students from various West African countries who were studying in the United Kingdom, and which, in 1942, had called for the independence of Britain's West African colonies. Pratt returned to Nigeria in 1954, after 4 years working for the NHS. Although she was initially denied a post as ward sister – a position only open at the time for British expatriates – she was appointed Matron of the University College Hospital in Ibadan within ten years. Pratt was the first Nigerian to hold that position. She created a school of nursing at the University of Ibadan in 1965. Pratt was also a founder and leader of the Professional Association of Trained Nurses in Nigeria and founder and co-editor of the journal Nigerian Nurse. Pratt was chief nursing officer to the Federal Ministry of Health in Nigeria and then appointed Commissioner of Health for Lagos in the 1970s. In 1971, Pratt became the President of the National Council of Women's Societies in Nigeria. In 1973 she was awarded the Florence Nightingale Medal by the International Committee of the Red Cross. The citation described her as a: State Registered Nurse and Midwife. Certificate in Tropical Nursing. Teachers Diploma. Hospital Nursing Administration Certificate. Chief Nursing Officer, Federal Ministry of Health, Lagos. The award was presented to her by the President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Sir Adetokunbo Ademola, on 21 December 1973. In 1975, she was awarded a chieftaincy title – that of the Iya Ile Agbo of Isheri – for services to the nation. In 1979 she was made an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Nursing. She died on 18 June 1992. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kofoworola_Abeni_Pratt

famzynet:Thanks, I will do my best to keep updating the thread. It's my passion. |
The days become shorter by the minutes and moving out date is almost upon me. Then in the last week of February. My Ward manager, the 'queen' and other colleagues organised a DO for me. When went to an Indian Kitchen. About 15 colleagues turned up, with the Ward Manager and the Consultant. It was a lovely evening of laughter, fun, reflections and reminisce. We had our appetizers, the main course and the dessert, there was more than we could eat. No alcohol. Each colleague spoke to me, the manager rounded it up. I offered my gratitude and then the Consultant presented a card signed on by all on the ward. Time flies when you are having fun. Before we knew it, time was 2330hr, so we had to call it a day as we have colleagues going to work in few hours. I was off work the next day, I went to Croydon to buy some stuff that i needed and might not be available in the new place. While I was in one of the shops, I got a call from the letting agents, Jackson Green and Preston. The lady told me that, my moving in date would have to be postponed, I shouted WHY, She said ' She has not been able to get the required official to check the gas safety valve and issue a gas certificate for the house. I was livid with anger, I fired back, why was this check not done before now. She said it is always done when a new tenants is about to move in, it can not be done in anticipation. She explained that it became an issue now because the official to do it doesn't have an open slot. And without that certificate, She can not release the house as agreed before, I pleaded that, I could move in while awaiting the checks. Resounding NO echoed back, I am sorry, that will not be possible. But I will do everything to chase the engineer to do the checks. I was dejected, I just dropped the shopping basket that j was holding with everything in it and walked out. This news changed everything for me. I have informed my present Landlord and agents that I am moving out on 29th of February. I have arranged for a removal company and paid a deposit. I called my wife and informed her of the news. When I got home. I called my Landlord and told him that i need to extend the tenancy by some days and I will pay the daily rate based on the number of days that I eventually spend as extra. Also I called the Removal company that I need to change the date, told him to stand by for a new date. Lastly I called my new employer that I need to extend my resumption date based on exigencies beyond my control. I suggested that I should be able to resume on the 9th of March instead of 3rd.

HumanCalc:Thank you so much for your kind words. I am happy that you find the thread interesting. |
HumanCalc:Yes, that's true. It is mostly used during Auction. |
vhuqnl:Apologies, i missed this. Yes, you cannot do more than 20 hours of extra shifts/week. |
adrenaline02:I don't really have an idea. Can anyone help our friend out with information Re this. |
famzynet:Thanks, You have the current information. |

I believe the section to pay IHS should have been redacted from the page. If you still have prompts to pay the IHS, contact Home office. |
Cmanforall:Thanks. I used Envertiz, it's part of the MSI group. |

You don't need to pay for IHS when applying for your dependants again. And if you have paid any IHS between March 2020 and now, the Government is going to refund it. |
Same Brighton beach, looking like the popular Oshodi park of famed Yellow buses .
|
Small 34°c and the beaches are filled to the brim. Reality is that the 34° actually felt like 45°. Brighton beach looking like Lagos Airport Hotel's swimming pool on Valentine day.

famzynet:You are Welcome. It is expensive my friend. |
famzynet:In the first instance, you are required to pay a deposit of £550+ the tenancy fee of £450, meaning you are to pay £1000 before you can move in, but the deposit will be lodged in a tenancy deposit scheme. At the end of the tenancy, the deposit will be returned to you if there are no damages apart from normal wear and tear. In the second instance, I believe, it's just saying you need to pay an advance payment or a with-holding fee of £60, if the monthly rent is £120. So the initial £60 paid will be deducted from the monthly rent. Simply, you pay half ahead and balance up the rest when you move in. ( Is this a houseshare?) |
IYIMAN:Remembered those 112 days. lolz. |

I had no qualms in cutting the old Biometric card into two and sent it out in a registered mail to Home office. I have a new one already. It is a crime to hold on to the old one. My colleagues knew that I will be relocating way back in October, because I told the ward manager and the ward manager mentioned it in our monthly meeting. When I did not resign in October, November or December. Some colleagues concluded that I was joking, that I wasn't going to move out after all. Now when they heard that I have tendered my resignation. It came as surprise to them but it was funny to me because they knew about it way back in October. Anyways colleagues from other wards started calling me to verify if it is true that I have resigned. My ward manager in collaboration with our own Queen on the ward, we call her Queen on Capel. She has worked in the trust for about 32 years, on the Capel for close to 30 years.( Talk of dedication) She retired and came back to work though with reduced hours. She is the equivalent of your Social prefect in secondary. The duo pressed me to give a date for my leaving DO but i couldn't give one until early February. Eventually I gave them one one day towards the end of February. I inserted myself into my work, making sure there was no mistakes. I have good reputation, I need not spoil it because I am leaving. I get to work early as usual, do my routine tasks impeccably. Help out struggling and overwhelmed colleagues. I attended to patients and relations with great care and compassion. Voiced out my concerns as patient's advocate. I stopped all bank shifts out of intuition. The resumption date on my new employment contract stated that I should resume on 12th January. But I was able to convince the HR office that it was not possible because of the mistakes on the CoS, my new Visa application was delayed. Thus I need a new date in March so I was given 9th of March. I started to search for Removal company that will help me with removal of my household items. I got a quote from one company in Crawley, quoted about £1800 for removal, overnight storage and next day delivery. I protested that I don't want the storage, just remove and deliver. The company insisted that, if I want to use them, that is the charge. I told them Mbanu - Never. I got some other ones, some said, they cannot go as far out as Lincolnshire, some have small buses that could not contain my belongings. A friend advised me to use rent-a-van, I could rent a van from this company, drive it myself or get another person to drive. So I searched out Rent-a-van company within Redhill. I saw that they have different categories of vans. From Luton with automatic loading lift, to Sprinters, to Boxers, minivans and Cars. The prices displayed were very pocket friendly. Renting a Luton Van was less than £200, but I chose a Sprinter van and made a reservation. It was just perfect for me. I discussed with one of my church members if he could drive the van for a fee. He said no problem except that he will be travelling out of the country about the time that I would need him. So I cancelled the reservation. Then the reality dawned on me. I should have learnt how to drive before now. Though I was driving efficiently in Nigeria, driving here is opposite of what I know. At this point I regretted not perfecting my driving lessons. I continued to search till i found a Nigerian with his van, we negotiated on the fee, he came over to check the belongings and we arrived at a price that benefited both parties, less than £800. I transferred a deposit to him to demonstrate my commitment. |
NiklauseFred:Thank you my friend. |
