EducationRe: I Regret Going To The University by Soknown: 11:03am On Dec 31, 2020
I have seen so many valid points on this thread, but let me add this:

I was given the opportunity to address some set of Secondary students a while back just to encourage them at studying hard. I brought out an obviously white A4 Printing paper. I asked the Students for the color of the paper I was holding. All the students raised their hands so I called one of them. He told me that the color is white.

Then I asked them, why is it white? Everyone kept quiet. They did not expect that question. That is the meat of education, the ability to recognize the need for a 'WHY' and seek for answers. University education is meant for us to understand the Philosophy and Science beneath our chosen profession, questioning the existing order/knowledge, and sought for ways to improve on it. But we have adopted to just absorb the existing knowledge as it is and run to the job market.

Most of the great guys that the OP mentioned understood this principle without attending formal University education but the majority of the earth's population needs to go to school to come to this realization.

Understand the Philosophy and Science behind what you do, then see yourself grow exponentially.

The Hotel's counsel should start preparing his brief. Because that phrase is enough to sue the hotel for all it's worth.

@sonkown read your post from start to end, very interesting!

I will like to ask if you pay tuition fees for your children, I have kids too but coming to UK for Masters. I read somewhere that schooling for dependants are tuition free. Can you throw more light on schooling for children?
Tuition is free at Primary and Secondary levels.

DICES, DICES Risk assessment and management, The word DICES is not an acronym but no one has been able to tell me, why it was named DICES. It's used to assess and manage risks like suicidality, self neglect, violence and sexual abuse.
NEWS, National early warning Score.it's a common front data collection of physical health parameters. It is what we called Vital signs in Nigeria but a little more detailed. Each parameter has scores attached to it which you will add up at the end. Each score or range of score has action to be taken.
MCA, Mental Capacity Act assessment, used to determine whether someone has capacity for a particular decision to be taken. Compos Mentis or Non Compos Mentis.
CAMS, Collaborative assessment and management of suicidality. To assess and manage risk of suicide.

For folks that have indicated interest in M.sc in Mental health Nursing. The thread is about to get interesting. I spoke with my brother who is pursuing same course.

He is able to guide us through the process but before that, he has given me snap-tip of requisite information.

There are two Universities that offer admission to International students for M,sc in Mental health Nursing.
University of Bournemouth and University of Guildford.
(There might be more, but this is what we know for now).

What do you need;
A B.sc in any course but preferably a health oriented course.
Evidence of about 750 hours of care in the last five year.(it could be as a regular staff or volunteer in a hospital, clinic, homes or family member main Carer.)
Submission of an eportfolio .
Online interview via Skype or zoom.
ielts Academics. ( not sure of the band score)
School fees,( fees on the respective university's website)
I will try to get him into the thread to answer further questions.

I asked a question before, maybe you did not see it, You mention about Social workers in your post. I guess they are medical Social Workers.
What ate their work and how much is their pay?
Do they earn note than NURSES?
Basically, they do more than medical services but under healthcare they serve as care coordinators for folks in the community. They interface with other support services both in the hospital and in the community.
For example, Mr A got admitted into the hospital B, Social services liaise with healthcare provider in that Hospital B to plan the treatment pathway for Mr A. After 2 weeks Mr A got better but he uses wheel chair now and they need the discharge pathway, the social services represent Mr A to make sure, his best interest is served irrespective of his mental capacity.
Now Mr A's flat is on the top floor of a terrace house with no lift or the lift is not wheel chair compliant. The social services will work with relevant services to adapt the utilities in this house to his need or get another house for him. So they will interface with, the OT, PT department in Hospital B, the housing service, the GP to make sure that this man get the best services from the system. Hope you get a glimpse of what they do now.
I don't have a clue about what they earn.

thanks @soknown for your response. hope the family is doing great.
I would like to ask a question with regards to your answer.
you said nurses like you work in NHS or private settings , does that mean community nurses don't work with NHS?
Most community or district nurses that I know, work with GP. Just a few work with NHS trusts.
Read more here, https://www.healthcareers.nhs.uk/explore-roles/nursing/roles-nursing/district-nurse
NB. There is an embedded video in the link. It is emotive and graphic but rewarding to watch.

Good afternoon @op , I've followed with kin interest . I must say you're a gifted writer. I would like to ask a few questions.

You talked about community nurses in one of your write-ups, please I want to know what are the differences between a community nurse and yourself( nurse)?
They work with the GP but in the community as part of health and social services to support people at the community level. They visit people in their homes, care home, respite homes, residential homes to give treatment and perform minor procedures so that people are supported as much as possible to reduce admission rate. They are either RGN or RMN.
Nurses like me work in the NHS or in Private settings like the GP Clinic or Nursing homes.

Balderdash, which prayers?, for whom? They don't need no prayers. They need responsible and proactive leadership.

The doom just keeps getting darker and the gloom keeps getting cloudy.

NA came out the other day crying for information like a school kid that lost his lot. Responsible intel driven institution do not beg for information/intelligence. They invest in intelligence.

With the level of insecurity in the country, one would imagine that all the nook and cranny of Nigeria will be manned by Intel mapping officers of the DSS, NIA and NA. But no.

No Surveillance flight. No reconnaissance mission, No infiltration plan. Yet the defence budget keeps getting fatter and the Generals account numbers keep getting robust.

We keep sending youth Corp members every where but we cannot tap into their spread or reach within the one year service. Forward thinking leadership would have identified special students that are about to graduate and recruit them into intelligence gathering mission, camp them for three months, equip them adequately and pay them handsomely.

Every local government have markets, does NA have presence or eyes in those markets. NO

There are churches and mosques every where, do they have intelligence gathering pact with these institutions apart from their peace meetings.

Bandits will operate for hours without any police or military presence. But we will see them dropping from Choppers during October 1 celebration. Pathetic lots.
I am on my short fuse today. So angry.
