Can this happen in Nigeria? Because of the situation in the country, people run away to other countries in search of a better life. See how in Germany,Inspectors of the S-Bahn Munich pulled a 48-year-old Nigerian from the train by force. The two ticket inspectors of the Deutsche Bahn German train system were caught on camera savagely dragging the Nigerian man out of a train after he reportedly refused to provide his ID and pay a fine for not having a ticket. The man vehemently clinged on metal handrails, as two men in uniform ferociously battle to get him out of the suburban S-Bahn train, headed to Munich city center from the airport. Passengers were heard telling the inspectors: “It’s absolutely not OK what you’re doing, the guy didn’t do anything to you.”“You should be ashamed of yourself, this is racism what you’re doing,”. “Why are you doing this? He paid.” The man, said to be a 48-year-old Nigerian, was reportedly removed from the train at Leuchtenbergring station. He appeared to have no valid ticket as the inspectors came up to him during the check. They then asked him to show an ID card and pay a €60 fine ($68), according to the witness who filmed the incident and later described it to HuffingtonPost.de. The man, however, only had €9 in cash, which he reportedly needed for food. The inspectors collected the €9, saying he still owed the rest. Deutsche Bahn, the company operating trains in Germany, said it was “unusual to receive only partial payments”

READ: Gov. advises parents to guard children against drug abuse Ohanyere said that the agency would continue to sensitize members of the public on the effects of illicit drugs in line with UN regulations and policies of the Federal Government. In a keynote address, the Deputy Governor, Mrs Cecelia Ezeilo, said that drug trafficking and abuse were among the most dangerous threats to the society. Ezeilo urged governments at all levels to rise up to the challenge, in order to effectively address the menace. Meanwhile, Dr Ujunwa Nduanya, the Registrar, Psychological Medicine, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), said in a lecture, that the dearth of rehababilitation centres for addicts was the bane of the fight. The General Overseers of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye; The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Bishop Mike Okonkwo; Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo; Deeper Life Church, Pastor W.F Kumuyi among others, have ordered Christian students across the country not to attend classes Arabic Studies. This comes amid reports that the subject has been made compulsory in schools. Vanguard reports that Rev. (Dr.) Mercy Ezekiel, the National Coordinator of Christian Pentecostal Mission (CPM), Pastor Wale Oke and the General Overseer of the Thronegrace Mission, Pastor Emmanuel Nuhu Kure, were also present at the meeting. They also called for immediate reversal of the revised Basic Education Curriculum, insisting that Christian Religious Studies (CRS) should stand on its own and not be part of an omnibus subject known as Religion and National Values. They explained that the Federal Government has no right to force any Nigerian student at any level to study Arabic Studies. Articulating the position of the Fellowship, Omobude, who is also the PFN National President, Oyedepo, Okonkwo and Wale Oke urged Christian students in any part of the country to resist such imposition, stressing that “we are aware of orchestrated plans to subtly use this policy as a means of forceful religious indoctrination and we maintain our stand against it.” Oyedepo added: “Government has no right to force subjects on any any Nigerian child neither does it have the authority to drop Christian Religious Studies at the Senior Secondary School level while asking him/her to continue to read Islamic Studies which he/she cannot do at university level.” |

Migrant boat used to illustrate the story [Photo credit: CBC] Three migrants died in the Mediterranean on Monday night, a German aid group said, during Italian-led rescue operations in which thousands more were pulled to safety from rickety boats. About 5,000 migrants were picked up off the Libyan coast by emergency services, Italy’s navy, aid groups and private boats on Monday, and rescues were continuing on Tuesday, according to an Italian coastguard spokesman. “Despite all efforts, three people died from a sinking rubber boat” and rescue boats in the area are struggling to cope, German humanitarian group, Jugend Rettet, said. Jugend Rettet (Rescuing Youth) is one of about nine aid groups patrolling seas into which people traffickers have sent more than half a million refugees and migrants on highly dangerous voyages towards Europe over the past four years. “We reached the capacity limit of our ship, while our crew is seeing more boats on the horizon. Currently, all vessels are overloaded,” Rettet added. The total number of migrants reaching Europe by sea so far this year is less than half that counted in the same period of 2016, thanks to a deal between the EU and Turkey which blocked a once-busy route to Greece, but the number coming to Italy has risen. About 72,000 migrants arrived in Italy on the perilous route from Libya between January 1 and June 21, roughly 20 per cent more than in 2016, and more than 2,000 died on the way, according to the International Organization for Migration.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has vowed to resist the alleged plans by some tertiary institutions to increase tuition fees. NANS president, Chinonso Obasi in a statement issued in Abuja, said that the students’ union had received the report that no fewer than 38 tertiary institutions had concluded plans to jack up tuition fees. Recall that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had confirmed that no fewer than 38 universities across the country had increased their tuition fees. Obasi in the statement said that the association was angered by the move as Nigerian students had over the years been made to bear the brunt of administrative ineptitude of managers of tertiary institutions. “In saner climes, education funding includes revenue from researches and consultative collaborations. Implementation of UNESCO strategies, particularly commercialising research findings should occupy Nigeria educational institutions rather than constant hike in tuition fees payable by hapless students. “However NANS believes that the planned hike in tuition fees would be the last straw that would break the cycle of obnoxious levy on learning and pursuit of education”, he said. He regretted that the APC-led administration had not showed enough commitment to improving the education sector and the plight of students. He said that Nigerian students did not deserve such harsh punishment as fee increase would further limit the capacity of students to dream of a better future. “Consequently, NANS wishes to serve notice to the authorities concerned that Nigerian students will never endure any increase in tuition at this time of the nation’s socio-economic challenges. “If administrators of Nigeria’s educational institutions have run out of ideas of funding and sustaining educational institutions in the country, they should feel free to liaise with students to explore new ways of funding the institutions. “While we express our readiness to dialogue with chief executives of tertiary institutions, NANS wishes to reiterate the fact that Nigerian students have been patient with the President Muhammadu Buhari administration. “The President Buhari administration should recognise that this is time to reward the understanding and cooperation of Nigerian students with education subsidy, proper funding of education and adequate welfare initiatives for students,” he said.
