National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, John Oyegun on Thursday declared that President Muhammadu Buhari is fast recovering from his illness. Oyegun made the declaration while dismissing allegation by Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose who said Buhari was on life support. Featurung on Channels television, Oyegun insisted that Buhari is not on “life support” as alleged by Fayose. According to the APC National Chairman, Fayose’s comments was “most unfortunate.” He said, “That is the governor of Ekiti state when he talks you just discount it and move on. “We are not his doctors but the reports we have are very good. “Fayose’s comment is a most unfortunate thing. It is not ideal. Nobody wishes that on himself or on a nation but he is recovering very strongly.” Recall that Buhari had on May 7, embarked on his second medical vacation to London for treatment of an illness that both him and his handlers have refused to disclose to Nigerians.

With growing access to the internet, social media now represents an indispensable channel for businesses to promote their brand, connect with customers, cultivate sales leads and deepen their reach. Considering the increasing utility of the smartphone and other mobile devices, research indicates that up to 80 per cent of your target market is actively engaged and reachable on online channels, including social media. The foregoing justifies the need for business owners to pay closer attention to social media, ensuring it is used optimally to achieve marketing objectives. The key to achieving this to avoid common social media mistakes that may erode goodwill and damage your company’s reputation online. These tips from the Research/Development Unit of Yudala, Nigeria’s fastest growing composite e-commerce company, will help your business navigate social media better. 1. Don’t start without a content strategy You must have a plan in place before you put your business on social media. Apart from identifying specific objectives and the resources required to make effective use of social media, you must have a diligently thought-out content strategy. This will cover a profiling of your target audience, the nature of content to be created, the tone of your communication with them and the mental positioning of your brand in the minds of the audience. The absence of a well thought-out content strategy often leads to a scatter-gun approach which does more harm than good to your business. 2. Don’t focus on selling A lot of business owners make the mistake of using social media in this manner. Research shows that social media channels have a humanizing effect. In other words, your business takes on a human face by interacting on social media channels. Limiting your use of these channels to being all about selling, inadvertently makes the audience see your brand as only transactional in nature, less humane. This will ultimately result in a mental block and poor conversion. As much as possible, you should sell less on social media and focus instead on other forms of engagements with your audience. Research show that brands with the best returns on social media marketing devote about 10 per cent of the time to selling. 3. Don’t be a copycat What works for a certain brand on social media may not work for your business. On social media, one size doesn’t fit all. The kind of content or posts an entertainment company, for instance, will get huge retweets or likes for may draw ridicule for your technology business. This justifies the essence of planning and developing a strategy before you put your business on social media. Same applies to trying to keep pace with others by putting your business on various social media platforms. You don’t necessarily have to be everywhere because Business A is. It is important, especially when starting out, to focus on one or two platforms such as Facebook and Twitter/Instagram. This decision should also be the outcome of a careful analysis of the best channels on which to reach your target audience. There is no point creating numerous accounts out of excitement and the urge to keep pace without being active on all of them. 4. Don’t pay for followers As rightly identified by a number of enthusiasts/researchers, followers represent what can be termed the vanity metric of social media. It is sometimes shocking to see the length individuals go to get followers and fans on social media. While some toe the path of controversy, nudity or the bizarre, others go as far as paying for these adulations. Many businesses have followed suit by paying for followers as a means of boosting their standings or image in the eyes of the social media public. This is a major pitfall that may do your brand more harm than good. Rather than pay for fake followers to shore up your rankings, focus instead of building real connections through a well-defined content and engagement strategy with your audience. This approach delivers better returns for your investment than fake followers 5. Don’t overlook feedback According to Yudala, one of the benefits of social media is its humanizing effect. Most customers will see your brand from a more personal stand-point when interacting on social media. As a result, you must leverage on this and use social media channels as veritable platforms for more responsive customer service. These days, it doesn’t take much for a brand to get noticed for the right or wrong reasons on social media. Always seek feedback. And when it comes unsolicited, never make the mistake of ignoring or overlooking it. Treat it with all the urgency it deserves and turn it into an opportunity for the disgruntled customer to endorse your brand. 6. Don’t overdo #hashtags Hashtags are very useful, but when over-used, they can become a distraction. When used effectively, the right hashtags can enrich your posts, create awareness or make them go viral, connecting you to newer audiences than you previously communicated with. However, this does not mean #that #because #you #can #you #should #turn #every #word #into #a #hashtag. You get the drift now? Hashtags can connect you more effectively to the consumers, to investors and other target audiences. The major key is to ensure you do not abuse or overuse them.

We are in a generation where the norms and ethics of d ancient generation are becoming alien to the now generation, But even at that i believe all morals is not lost to civilisation and embracing of western culture. We are very much aware how much importance is/was placed on virginity by our fore-fathers and d great disgrace that follows suit if a lady is found wanting on night of her wedding, So in other to avoid such scenarios the community gave no too for cohabitation for unmarried youngsters, But as we all know, All that is in pas now cos even some parents encourage it for their children, claiming it helps the know themselves better before marriage, So my question is even though many people are doing it, Does it make it right ![]() Can u do it ![]() Are u already doing it ![]() |
Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Monaco starlet, Thomas Lemar. Goal reports that the 21-year-old is at the top of Arsene Wenger’s summer wishlist, after scoring 14 goals and recording 11 assists last season. Lemar’s arrival in North London, would see him become the Gunners’ second signing of the summer, after Bosnian left-back Sead Kolasinac arrived on a free transfer. He will compete for a place in wide positions with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alex Iwobi. Wenger is still hopeful that Lemar’s move, could pave the way for Kylian Mbappe to follow his team-mate to the Emirates

Etisalat Nigeria may change its brand if it secures new investors over the $1.2 billion debt impasse.According to information gathered by The Guardian, Etisalat Nigeria is billed to undergo a transition period while it works with the banks to secure new investors. With new investors coming, there is a possibility of a change in brand but this will become clear once the restructuring has been concluded. Etisalat, in a fact sheet made available, explained that the recent announcement by the Group is to the effect that they are transferring their shares in Etisalat Nigeria to a security trustee who will hold the shares on behalf of the consortium. It explained that the security trustee is the vehicle employed by the banks to hold the shares on behalf of the consortium. “What has effectively happened is a ‘change in ownership’ not a receivership, bankruptcy or winding up so operations will continue to run and subscribers can continue to access services on the network as usual,” it stated. The firm claimed that the management and the banks are in full agreement over the unhindered operations of the business and efforts are on to ensure the day to day operations are not affected and subscribers’ customer experience remains top notch. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has written a letter to the management of Access Bank, seeking a possible meeting with the lenders. The letter, dated June 21, a copy of which The Guardian was privy to was addressed specifically to the Managing Director (MD), Access Bank, while the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN); the MDs of Guaranty Trust Bank; Zenith Bank and United Bank for Africa Plc were copied. In the letter, titled: ‘Indebtedness of Etisalat to a consortium of banks’, signed by its Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Umar Danbatta, the commission noted that “in view of the foregoing, it has become imperative that there is a meeting between the consortium of banks and it (NCC) to discuss the issues and find a lasting resolution.” NCC however, stated that while it recognizes the right of the banks to foreclose on the debt, it is expedient to draw the lenders attention to certain salient issues. According to NCC, the Nigerian Communications 2003, Act S38 provides that: “S38 (1) the grant of a license shall be personal to the licensee and the license shall not be operated by, assigned, sub licensed or transferred to any party unless the prior written approval of the commission has been granted.” “S38 (2): A licensee shall at all time comply with the terms and conditions of the license and the provisions of this Act and its subsidiary legislation.Condition 12 of the Unified Access Service License (UASL) issued to EMTS also mirrors the provisions of the NCA 2003, which is reproduced above.

The Eastern Cape Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform, South Africa has confirmed that photos of a severely deformed lamb circulating on social media are no hoax. It confirmed the authenticity of the pictures saying it was of a deformed stillborn lamb was born in the Lady Frere area. Dr Lubabalo Mrwebi, the department’s Chief Director of Veterinary Services said it was not uncommon for pregnant animals to be infected by viruses early in their pregnancy. “We call on the local community not to panic over this deformed lamb. We can confirm that this deformed lamb is not a progeny of sheep ovum and a human sperm. “Virus infections in early stages of pregnancy may infect the foetus and lead to the development of malformations in the growing foetus. It is likely that this is what happened to the Lady Frere sheep‚” Mrwebi said. “The gestation period for a sheep is five months. This means that this particular sheep conceived in late December 2016 or early January 2017‚ which was warm with plentiful rainfall in the Chris Hani district‚ conditions which are favourable to the proliferation of mosquitoes and midges known to be the vectors of viruses that cause such diseases such as the Rift Valley Fever (RVF).” He said it was “fair to assume” the animal was infected by the RFV virus. “The resultant circulation of the virus in the blood found its way through the maternal blood into the uterus and the foetus‚ which was at a very critical stage of development‚” Mrwebi said. “The infected foetus then‚ as a result‚ failed to form properly‚ leading to the deformity that it became.” The deformities include: – a deformed head due to abnormal accumulation of fluid in the brain cavity; – a smaller brain than normal; and – an underdeveloped lower jaw. “The department’s veterinary officials will conduct a postmortem on this deformed lamb and its results will be communicated to the public by the department once complete‚” Mrwebi said. “The lesson we are learning from this experience is that small stock farmers must keep their animals protected against diseases like the Rift Valley Fever with a correct vaccine‚ which is best given long before the mating season so that by the time the females get pregnant they are already protected against this disease.” Mrwebi said the department’s officials were “enlightening” livestock farmers about the incident.

Police in Indian-controlled Kashmir said on Friday one of their officers had been beaten to death by a crowd outside the main mosque in the region’s capital of Srinagar, in a rare lynching there of a security official. Witnesses said worshippers had spotted the policeman, Mohammed Pandit, at the mosque in plainclothes, taking photographs of people leaving shortly after midnight. When they confronted him, a brawl broke out and Ayub fired his gun, wounding three people before the crowd began attacking him, the witnesses said. Two people suspected of involvement in the attack have been arrested, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police S. P. Vaid told reporters. The attack occurred while a separatist leader was speaking inside the mosque amid tight security on Laylat al Qadr, one of the holiest nights of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. The Himalayan region of Kashmir has been divided between India and Pakistan since 1947, and a separatist movement against Indian rule has raged for decades in the Indian part of it. Hostility toward the Indian state, which Kashmiris accuse of widespread rights abuses, often boils over into violence. Year 2016 has seen frequent clashes between security forces and civilian protesters. Police said however that the beating to death of an officer was unusual. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said the policeman was at the mosque doing his duty. “This was a shameless act,” Mufti said.(Reuters/NAN) |

The kingpin, who was arrested on Saturday at his 3, Fred Shoboyede Street, Magodo, Lagos home, is being kept in a maximum security cell. It was gathered that Evans broke down yesterday, lamenting the state of the police cell. A source said he lamented that after making billions, owning gold, diamond and living like a king, he finally ended up in a cell with poor suspects. It was gathered that he told his interrogators he has two other detention camps in Lagos. He was also said to have confessed that he started off as an armed robber in Sokoto State. The source said: “He has been weeping uncontrollably because he is in a cell with common poor criminals despite all the wealth and mansions he owned. “He has started talking. He has given us locations of other detention camps he had in Lagos. Aside Igando, he had two others and detectives would visit the place. He also said that his very first robbery was in Sokoto State and that they killed the victim. “He is still being interrogated and more details would come out after the camps have been visited.” Meanwhile, The Nation learnt yesterday that Evans has been excommunicated from Nnewi for over five years because of the terror he unleashed on wealthy indigenes of the town. It was also learnt that his second in command, Felix Chinemerem, a native of Amanagu in Abia State, was also declared wanted in 2014, after his criminal activities led to the killing of many innocent people. A manhunt is underway for two inmates accused of killing two guards on a Georgia prison bus Tuesday morning. Donnie Russell Rowe, 43, and Ricky Dubose, 24, overpowered and disarmed the two guards around 6:45 a.m. as 33 inmates were being driven between prisons, Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills told reporters. One of the two inmates then shot and killed both guards, Sills said. "We are still desperately looking for these two individuals. They are armed with 9 mm pistols that were taken from these correctional officers. They are dangerous beyond description. If anyone sees them or comes into contact, they need to call 911 immediately," the sheriff said. The FBI said the fugitives were last seen getting into a "grass green," four-door 2004 Honda Civic with the Georgia license plate number RBJ-6601, and driving west on state Highway 16 toward Eatonton, southeast of Atlanta. The Georgia Department of Corrections identified the guards as Christopher Monica and Curtis Billue, both officers at Baldwin State Prison. Monica had been with the department since October 2009 and Billue since July 2007.

Yemi Osibanjo, has warned northern youths that the federal government will not take lightly the three month quit notice issued to Igbos - The acting president held a consultative meeting with elders and leaders in Northern states - The meeting had in attendance the Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief of Staff, Service Chiefs and other top government officials Acting President Yemi Osibanjo, on Tuesday, June 13, warned northern youths that the federal government will not take lightly the three month quit notice issued to Igbos to leave the region. NAIJ.com gathered that the acting president stated this during a consultative meeting with elders and leaders of thought in Northern states at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The meeting which had in attendance the Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief of Staff, Service Chiefs and other top officials of government was held at the old Banquet hall, State House, Abuja. Below are 15 key things the acting president said at the meeting: 1. First let me say how honoured I am, by your response to my invitation to attend this special consultation. I’m pleased to welcome all who are here today, cross-section of elders from the Northern states of Nigeria. It is also important to point out that there are, of course people who would qualify for the same description, the description of very respected thought leaders, but certainly, we cannot have everyone. Some we could not even reach but, more importantly we wanted to have a small number of people for this first consultation, so that we will not have an unwieldy number. 2. Besides, I will also be meeting with traditional leaders from the North and I will be meeting with respected thought leaders and religious leaders from the South-East. So this will be very broad series of consultations but, let me say again that I am extremely grateful that you responded to this meeting at very short notice. 3. Living in a diverse country such as ours of course as most of us who are here know, is one that will give rise to unique challenges, several challenges and several issues. Most, who are here today have been witnesses to practically all phases of Nigerian History which, is one of the reasons we have asked that you come today. There is hardly anyone here who has not witnessed the most important landmarks in our history, some tragic, some joyful and, many times unable to put together. 4. This is one of the reasons why I thought that, this particular group of people are important to be here today. In the past few weeks, I’m sure many of us have noticed that there have been louder noises of hate, of division, especially from the younger persons in our society. Much louder noises than perhaps had been the case in the past. 5. Recently of course there was the loud agitations about secession from some of the groups of some young people in the South-East, IPOB and groups that are affiliated with them but also and perhaps more recently, the call by a group of young persons from the North, who claim to have given an ultimatum to all of those who are from the South-East who live in the North to vacate the North by October 1st, 2017. Now, there are those who may deride these sort of statements that these hate speeches that may show intolerance and promote divisions are not important, that they should be ignored. 6. However, I believe that we should address them quickly and that especially leaders of thoughts and elders, persons with experience, persons who have been through several phases of Nigeria’s history should be able to advice and should be able to give some directions as to how many of those in our midst, especially younger people in our midst who may believe that perhaps the way and means they are going about their frustrations or their personal grievances is the right way to go. 7. I want to say that our defining strength is what our constitution calls the sovereign “nation under God.” There are multitudes of people from the North and multitudes of the people from the South who live in either the South or the North. There is no homogenous society in Nigeria; the North has several people living there from different parts of the country. 8. Every form of violence, every form of hate speech, every stone that is thrown in the market place will hit targets that are not even intended. And I believe that the Nigerian people must be made very conscious of that, so that we do not create a crisis that is un-intended. 9. As part of the reasons of living together, we must know that misunderstandings and frustrations would always arise and that people would always complain that they are not getting the best part of the deal. But we must be careful to recognize that we can only even begin to talk about getting any part of anything (only) if we are together in peace. 10. These days, wars do not end and I am sure that all of those who have seen or experienced war in any form would not wish it on their worst enemies. This is not the time to retreat behind ethnic lines. Moments like this are not for isolating ourselves and I want to urge all of us who are here, and of cause the entire Nigerian populace, that it is a time for us to come together and to work together. As a government, we are of cause determined to ensure the unity of the country along the lines of our constitution. 11. I want to say that hate or divisive speech, or divisive behaviour, where it is illegal, will be met with the full force of the law. And I want to ensure that there is no doubt of the resolve of government to ensure that no one will be allowed to get away with making speeches that can cause division, or that can cause violence. 12. Especially because when we make these kinds of pronouncements and we do things that can cause violence or disruption of lives and property, those who make those speeches are no longer in control. 13. So, I want to just emphasise that government will take very seriously any attempts to cause violence or to disrupt the peace of this country. That, I think is very important because we cannot control violence once it begins. 14. So today I am extremely grateful that you have responded to this meeting and I know that those who are around this table will be frank and constructive in all of our engagements. It is a very important engagement and I hope we will be able to get the kinds of fruit that we desire from it. 15. God helping us, our country will always be a place where we can always be proud of, where we can always live peacefully. And we always owe it as a duty to the next generation to hand over to them a peaceful and prosperous nation. Source: naij. com

DEATHMACHINE:Honestly, that should top the list |
A schoolboy who measures a whopping 6ft 6in is believed to be the world’s tallest eight-year-old at – twice the size of many of his classmates. Karan Singh, from Meerut in India, has been a record breaker all his life, entering the Guinness Book of Records as both the heaviest and tallest baby at birth. Now his Dad Sanjay, 41, hopes his son’s amazing height will be recognised again. “When Karan was born, he weighed 7.8 kg and was over 63 cm in length. So that got him into the record books instantly. “Then, when he was five-years-old, he got the record for being the tallest toddler. He is eight now and I want to get him into the Guinness Records again,” said Sanjay whose son is already his height. Karan is not the tallest in his family and seems to owe his extraordinary height to mum Shweatlana, 33, who was named India’s tallest woman with a towering height of 7ft 2in. Shweatlana, 33, is a basketball player and has represented India in numerous national and international sports events. Although it’s not clear what has caused their lofty height, there is the possibility that both mum and son have an excess of the growth hormone. Sanjay said: “We take Karan to an endocrinologist regularly. Until now, the tests have not shown any problems and everything is normal. Karan has a good stamina and has no internal problems. “I am a naturopath by profession and I make sure that we follow a special diet and supplements along with a healthy day to day lifestyle.” Despite towering above his classmates, Karan manages to do everything his smaller friends do. He said: “After finishing my homework, I play with my friends and then I go play basketball with my mother; she started teaching me since I was five years old and I want to play basketball like her, but I also like science a lot.” The family attracts a lot of attention when they step out together, but say their main problem is getting clothes and shoes in their enormous sizes.

With everything we have to worry about in life, who has time to think about sleeping, the one time of day that is supposed to be thoughtless? We worry about our work lives, how much exercise we’re getting, our skin care routines, our social lives, our diets, how much we drink and whether or not we should meditate, read or walk the dog more. Our waking life is riddled with things to think about, and the very last thing we ever stop to modify is our sleep. At best, our sleep is an afterthought, but more often it’s an inconvenience, a forced break in the midst of our exciting, non-stop, fast-paced lives. Last week, I sat in on a webinar with a sleep expert Daniel Jin Blum, PHD. I (admittedly) didn’t want to do it because I don’t care about my sleep. It’s boring! I’m BUSY. Something about this webinar, however, took me by surprise. It was the fact that not getting good sleep can absolutely destroy our lives and our overall health. Stroke, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, obesity and other metabolic syndromes are some of the long-term consequences of not getting sleep. And that’s just the long-term consequences. In the short term, lack of sleep or poor quality of sleep can lead to hyper-arousal and increased aggression. (UM, HELLO, I PUSHED AN OLD LADY ON THE M TRAIN THIS MORNING!) I also happened to learn the unfortunate truth that so many of us live our lives in a way that completely destroys our chances of getting some good shut-eye. 1. Caffeine The average daily consumption of caffeine by adults in the US is about 300 milligrams per person, which is about three times higher than the world average. So obviously, we’re not going to quit drinking caffeine. Without it, we’d all give up on our dreams, and the future is relying on us. Good Habits That Are Actually Bad For You But one thing to consider is, caffeine can delay the timing of your body clock. These effects will reduce your total sleep time as well as the amount of deep sleep that you enjoy. One study found that consuming caffeine 6 hours before bedtime reduced total sleep time by 1 hour. 2. Alcohol While alcohol at night will generally promote falling asleep more quickly (as proven by the years you spent in college), “chronic drinking can result in total loss of slow-wave (deep) sleep, and it also inhibits rapid eye movement (REM) sleep,” according to Dr. Blum. Not to mention, using alcohol as a sleep aid can lead to a dependence on the drug. That’s right, alcohol is actually a drug. A hell of a drug, though. It’s honestly my favorite one. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. What Happens To Your Body When You Stop Drinking Alcohol 3. Exercising late at night I’ve always heard that exercising late at night will help you sleep, but as it turns out, that’s a myth. I was surprised to find that Dr. Blum listed this as one of the major everyday mistakes we make that messes with the quality of our sleep. According to Blum, exercising too late at night elevates your core body temperature, which can reduce the amount of melatonin (the sleep hormone) your body produces. This sends a signal to your bod that it’s NOT bedtime, it’s PARTY time. 4. Social jet lag Another common disruption to a healthy sleep schedule is what Dr. Blum referred to as “social jet lag.” That’s when you have a sleep schedule that requires you to wake up early, but then you stay out late at night on weekends. If you do this a lot (ahem, GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS), Dr. Blum says, “You’re essentially flying back and forth across the coasts in 46 hours, and it can take a whole week for you to adjust back to your normal schedule.” 5. Working in an office Finally, a real excuse to quit your job. Most of us work in an environment where we are not exposed to a lot of natural light, but this can be harmful to your body’s natural circadian rhythm. Dr. Blum says, “Working in an office all day makes it more difficult for your body to recognize the difference between day and night, and this can mess with your body’s ability to produce melatonin.” Blum also notes that “taking walks during the day can help, especially between 2 to 4 pm.” Dr. Blum also suggests limiting the amount of exposure to light for up to two hours before bedtime. How dim? According to Blum, “If you can see colors, it’s probably too bright.” Most of these so-called “mistakes” are actually totally unavoidable parts of our everyday lives. So, is there anything we can do on a daily basis to actually get better sleep without moving to the middle of nowhere and becoming, like, a goat farmer or something? Blum suggests adopting a deep breathing mindfulness practice for “not just when you’re stressed out but on an every day basis, so your body adapts and is quicker to respond to being in a relaxed state.” The Benefits Of Mindfulness I’ve been practicing an aggravated state for most of my adult life, and I’m able to shift from zero to 60 in less than a minute. So, I guess it checks out that the brain could be trained to do things the opposite way, too. source: Elitedaily Oga lalasticlala, how many of these are u guilty of?? |

Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Task Force) operatives yesterday arrested a man described as a fake police officer. Faith Sunday John, 32, was said to have been parading himself as a police inspector attached to the Ikeja Police Command. The task force said he initially claimed to be a commercial bus driver. Parading the suspect, task force Chairman Olayinka Egbeyemi, a Superintendent of Police (SP) said he was arrested while extorting money from some members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at Oshodi. Egbeyemi said the suspect was caught wearing the police original cardigan and identity card. Preliminary investigations, he said, revealed that the cardigan and identity card belonged to his late father, who was an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) before he died last year. Egbeyemi explained that the suspect who lives 37, Anjorin Street, Shasha, Egbeda removed his late father’s passport from the identity card and re-laminated it with his own passport. The suspect has been charged to court. source:Nation Nigeria |
If you get FOMO from being away from Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp, Opera's new update will please you very much. Opera today introduced a new browser that integrates messaging apps to its sidebar. Codenamed "Reborn," the browser lets you chat with friends through Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Telegram on a side window while you work on the main browser. Other messaging apps such as Viber and WeChat are not yet included in the support, although the company tells CNET it is working to make them available soon. Opera is way behind Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox in terms of userbase, but often brings nifty features to its browser. Last year, the company introduced an integrated ad-blocking feature and built-in currency converter that allows online shoppers to see converted rates simply by highlighting the price of a product or service. In the new browser, you can pin supported messaging apps to the sidebar as shortcuts. That means no more having to toggle between tabs or windows, even if WhatsApp is always just an Alt+Tab away (or in my case, Alt+Tab, Tab, Tab). You can also share photos online as well as sign out of the messaging apps directly from the browser. While the new update brings our never-ending quest for multitasking solutions on the laptop to greater heights, it raises concern over privacy issues. For example, WhatsApp previously rejected requests from UK authorities to grant them third-party access to the Westminster attacker's account as part of investigations following the March attack. "Using WhatsApp on Opera is exactly the same as using the web service. Like other browsers and websites, Opera does not have access to any information shared or transmitted via this service," says Krystian Kolondra, Opera's Executive Vice President of Desktop. |
From time to time, many of us tend to consume more food than we need. Ever wondered why? Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency, shares 5 reasons why we overeat. You’re accustomed to overeating One of the major reasons a person might over eat is because they have become accustomed to it. Some people simply over eat out of habit. Thankfully habits can be broken and changed and scientifically it takes only 30 days to break them. Therefore, start forming some new and healthy eating habits. You’re Unaware of Your Calorie Intake Many people are not aware that they are consuming more calories than they burn and as a result over eat. Being aware of your food’s caloric content is one of the most effective ways to curb over eating and make your exercise attempts effective. In addition, it also helps you maintain a healthy eating lifestyle. You Find Food Comforting Often times, people eat not because they are hungry but to comfort themselves or make themselves feel better when tired, depressed etc. It’s important you try to avoid this as much as possible because it inevitably leads to over eating. Rather than eating a myriad of sweet and sugary foods to make yourself feel better, exercise or hang out with family or friends for comfort. These two actions help to significantly increase your mood as much as indulging in sweet sugary foods. You Eat Too Fast Slow down when eating. It takes about 20 minutes for the digestive system to report to the brain that you’re full and eating with lighting speed doesn’t help this process. Eating fast does not allow your brain react to the satiety signal coming from your body, and this leads you to believe you are still hungry when your body just needs some time to tell your brain that you are full. You Snack Frequently If you want to eat, eat real food. Try to avoid snacking and if you must snack, make sure you are physically hungry and that you ready to forfeit eating actual food for the snack (but ensure this isn’t done often). A lot of people tend to snack when they are not hungry or worse right after meals. Try to avoid the habit of eating snacks right after meals. Snacking in the absence of hunger can cause just as much weight gain as consuming high calorie foods or oversized portions.

At best, hiccups are a nuisance. At worse, they could be a symptom of something seriously wrong. Luckily, it’s usually the former-a brief episode triggered by nerves or something you ate. But if hiccups persist for more than a few hours or if they show up frequently, it may be worth getting checked out by a doctor. Before we get into the scary stuff, though, it may help to understand exactly what hiccups are. A hiccup is an involuntary spasm of the diaphragm, the muscle between your chest and your abdomen. The diaphragm usually expands down and contracts back up smoothly as you breathe, but it can jerk down suddenly if it becomes irritated. That sudden jerk triggers a closure of the glottis, the slit-like opening between the vocal cords and the voice box. “You quickly swallow air and your voice box shuts, and that’s what causes that hiccupping sound,” says Roshini Rajapaksa, M.D., a gastroenterologist at NYU Langone Medical Center and Health magazine’s medical editor. Lots of things can cause the diaphragm to become irritated, from a larger-than-normal meal, to sudden temperature changes, to the carbonated bubbles in soda. Alcohol, cigarette smoke, and swallowed air (while chewing gum, for example) are also likely culprits. Even feelings of stress or nervousness can set off a bout of hiccups. “And sometimes they can come out of the blue,” says Dr. Rajapksa. Irritation to the vagus nerve or phrenic nerves, which run from your sinuses down to the diaphragm, can also trigger hiccups. That means that a sore throat or an ear infection-or even a hair touching your eardrum-can be to blame. Most hiccups only last a few minutes or hours. When they last more than 48 hours, they’re known as persistent hiccups; when they last more than 30 days, they’re called intractable hiccups. You should see a doctor if your hiccups last more than a couple of days-they can not only begin to interfere with eating, sleeping, and mental well being, but they can also signal a hidden health condition. In severe cases, hiccups can even cause nerve damage. If you’re a heavy drinker or smoker, cutting back on these habits could help reduce your hiccups. Your doctor may also look for signs of gastroesophageal reflux disorder (GERD), also known as acid reflux, which is a treatable condition and a common cause of hiccups. In rare cases, hiccups can be caused by nerve damage or by a tumor in the stomach or neck. “There’s also an area of the brain involved with the hiccup reflex, so rarely a condition in the brain, like an infection or a mass, can cause them, too,” says Dr. Rajapksa. Hiccups can also indicate a stroke or heart problem, according to Texas A&M University, and a few cases have been associated with serious blood clots. Finally, hiccups may be a side effect of advanced diseases like cirrhosis (scarring of the liver), or liver or kidney failure. But usually they’ll occur along with other hard-to-miss symptoms-like fatigue, nausea, and swelling of the legs and abdomen-so it’s unlikely that hiccups would be the first indication that something is wrong. Obviously, working with a doctor to address any serious underlying causes is the best way to treat hiccups that last for longer than a few days. But if you know you’re in good health and you really just need relief right now, Dr. Rajapksa says there are a few things you can try: “Sometimes drinking cold water or gargling with cold water can help, because it stimulates the back of your throat,” she says. “Holding your breath also works for some people.” If your hiccups become uncomfortable and painful or won’t go away on their own, doctors can prescribe muscle-relaxing medicines that can help.
